Despite Rumors, No Faces Reunion Tour or Album in 2009

A spokesperson for Rod Stewart has denied reports that Stewart and Ron Wood have written an album’s worth of material for a new Faces LP that was to proceed a reunion tour. “There’s no plans for a Faces reunion tour this year,” the spokesperson tells Rolling Stone. Wood is working on a new solo project, but “Rod did not do any recording with him for that album,” according to the spokesperson. Reports out today also indicated that Flea was subbing in for the late Ronnie Lane on bass. Wood told Rolling Stone that Flea inquired about the job, but that Rod’s touring bassist Conrad Korsch was filling the slot.

In an interview with RS last month Ron Wood announced that the Faces had rehearsed a handful of times last year. “It was like no time has passed by,” he said, noting that tour plans were in the works. “We just have to sort out when and where and drop all of the management egos and just do what we can. We know we can do it. It’s just a matter of getting everyone’s availability sometime next year.”

With Rod’s calendar slowly filling up with tour dates, it’s looking more likely like Faces fans will have to wait until 2010 — though if Mick and Keith decide to bring the Rolling Stones back on the road by then, Ron Wood will become the one without time. Meanwhile, Faces drummer Kenny Jones and keyboardist Ian McLagan grow restless along with the rest of us.

I’m glad to hear they’re waiting. They’ll only be younger and better in 2010.

Sarcasm off.

Of course Rod doesn’t have time between singing all these standards that work against his strengths as a singer and performer.

Guy must’ve gotten spooked by South Park’s caricature of him.

CAN YOU EMAIL MY ADDRESS WITH ANY NEWS ON SMALL FACES TOUR DATES .

basser | 1/22/2009, 5:44 pm EST

Man, this stinks. We don’t need another contemporary tour of Rod Stewart, and Ron Wood doesn’t need to wait to for the phone to ring from Mick and Keith. The Faces should tour, and not with Flea. Have Stewart’s solo bassist fill in, or have someone like Pino Palladino, Bill Wyman or Free’s Andy Fraser play bass. I can’t believe they are going to wait. If Ian and Kenney want a bassist for another band, I’m their man. I guess this will help me decide to see Fleetwood Mac this year.

mcstansical | 1/22/2009, 7:12 pm EST

What is the problem with these guys ? Just get it together and take it on the road.

Rod lost all his soul.

Bada Bing Crosby | 1/22/2009, 11:22 pm EST

Well that certainly sucks. Woulda been nice to hear Rod sing some bonafide rock and roll for a change.

DAMN! | 1/23/2009, 9:14 am EST

That is sad…I was looking forward to seeing the Faces.

Damn Rod Stewart!!! What’s wrong Rod? Pining to make another boring CD of lame music?

GET BACK WITH THE FACES ROD! At least to redeem yourself!

rod could revive himself | 1/23/2009, 9:40 am EST

no one under the age of 40 thinks Rod Stewart is cool. this is his one chance to change that and it looks like he crapped on it.

Pusgalore | 1/23/2009, 10:35 am EST

They’re gonna fuck around ’til one more of them dies and it will all be impossible after that. What a shame therr can’t be a mature one between them to take the lead, forget their egos and make it happen. Crying shame!

billy | 1/23/2009, 1:11 pm EST

This sucks!

Rod needs to get it together, he has become irrelevant and this could have changed that.

And if they turned down Flea they are out of their minds.

I hope this is false, I was so looking forward to these shows.

Rod doesn’t need to “redeem” himself to anyone – those who don’t know can listen to any/all of his first three solo discs, as well as the Faces’ catalog to hear the history of a soulful singer and capable songwriter.

Flea would NOT be the guy, but neither would Wyman – on many important songs, Bill didn’t even play bass while a member of the Stones!

There has to be more to this story. Reports were all over the internet that they had completed a new album and were going to tour this year? Most of the information appeared to have come directly from Rod and Ron themselves. They supposedly got together over Christmas to write songs. They even mention the locations where the band recorded the record? Now their spokespersons are coming out with contradictory information!

It’s “precede,” not “proceed.”

this is bullshit!

charlie1 | 1/23/2009, 8:28 pm EST

I saw Jeff Beck on TV and he had a Chick playing Bass that could blow Flea away, hell get her and maybe Jeff would show up and jamm with them..

Mud | 1/23/2009, 9:25 pm EST

What a waste. Another karaoke album from Rod in the works I guess.

Steve R. | 1/24/2009, 12:11 am EST

It will be interesting if they ever put the reunion together, but they can’t match the “real” Faces…won’t be the same without Ronnie Lane.

Oh well, if they are anywhere near as loud as they were back in ‘71 when I saw them, my poor old ears probably couldn’t take it this time around.

Sammy | 1/24/2009, 4:33 pm EST

Just read a post on Rolling Stones site from someone who claims to have spoken with Mac last night about a Faces reunion. He said the following: no tour was ever planned, the Faces only rehearsed 3 days, with Rod only showing up on the 3rd day, band hasn’t heard from Rod since then, he (Mac) was going to speak to Ronnie in the next few days and find out what is going on. Not very encouraging news, if true, esp. after reading quotes from Ronnie that he was heading back to LA soon to finish off the newly recorded Faces reunion album.

I’m so disappointed

Jax | 1/24/2009, 8:57 pm EST

can anyone identify where the photo of Rod and Ronnie is from? what gig?

Morton | 1/26/2009, 12:06 pm EST

much respect to the faces, but without ronnie lane, this is a sham

music lover | 1/26/2009, 10:18 pm EST

Great news.best news this year dont come back Stewart.

basser | 2/5/2009, 12:47 pm EST

I just had a thought. What if Rod and Ronnie were going to put another Faces band together, with Flea on bass, and not use Kenney Jones and Ian McLagan for the 2009 tour? Then they realized that without Jones and McLagan, it would have been a sham. McLagan seems almost in the dark about all of this as we do, and Jones hasn’t been heard from. Makes you wonder if Rod and Ronnie were going to put their own false Faces group together. Or simply, Jones, Stewart and McLagan weren’t wanting Flea on bass; Ron Wood said he wanted Flea on bass, which would have been wrong for Faces.

mm | 2/7/2009, 11:25 pm EST

why not wait till 2010, and bring back tetsu (bass) from the 75 tour. that would be worth it. and jesse ed davis too.

mm | 2/7/2009, 11:31 pm EST

i just read that jesse ed davis died in 1988, he was great on that 75 tour

Woodrow | 6/29/2009, 10:32 pm EST

Ya can’t bring Ronnie Lane back. Yeah, he was great. A great bass player and singer, but he decided to leave the Faces, so why not bring in his replacement, Tetsu? He already knows most of the songs.
Would love to hear some new Stewart/Wood material. They wrote some great stuff together, and well played by all band members. Faces were always my favorite live band. Haven’t heard “Miss Judys Farm” or “Borstal Boys” live for over 30 years or more. Come on lads, only the Faces can make those great songs come alive again.

Scoop | 7/5/2009, 5:00 pm EST

These guys have got to get back together and tour to give me a big nostalga trip. I’ve seen the lot, Stones, Who, Queen, Bowie, Thin Lizzy et al but non of them could match the lads on stage after a few beers !

Ronnie Lane WAS the Faces, when he left in 73 they were never the same.
