With Working on a Dream — his third great album this decade — a Golden Globe and the Super Bowl halftime show, Bruce Springsteen is hitting another career peak. He invited David Fricke into his New Jersey studio to talk about his new music, the first song he ever recorded and life with the E Street Band. Get the full story in the new issue of Rolling Stone, which hits newsstands today, and get even more Bruce right here:

Inside Bruce Springsteen’s Rolling Stone Shoot — photographer Albert Watson takes you inside the session for this issue’s cover in Springsteen’s “writing room” and reveals what it was like to put the legend on film.

Thank you Rolling Stone for one of the more interesting issues in a long time.
Bruce, Buddy Holly, Artie Lange, all in all I can’t wait to return to my shitter tonight for some good reads.

Swingline, I have agreed and disagreed with you time and time again and I laughed out loud when I read your post.

His third great album this decade? I love it! Take that Devils & Dust! Or were you talking about Magic?

Jungleland | 1/21/2009, 12:59 pm EST

Bruce is great.

Jungleland2 | 1/21/2009, 2:55 pm EST

(my dad is here ;)

I agree, Devils & Dust was a stinker. (Long Time Commin’ was the exception and it was much better on the Sessions live DVD/CD)

I think the writer was excluding the Seger Sessions CD (since it’s a covers record)

dicksuck | 1/22/2009, 7:21 am EST

this mag is obsolete. What is all this out of date shit? Eddie Vedder? Bruce Springsteen? Who gives a shit?

Pharaoh4 | 1/22/2009, 3:48 pm EST

I think the trilogy should be: The Rising, Magic, Working on a Dream. Love “The Wrestler” as well.

RGMike | 1/22/2009, 4:52 pm EST

So, is there anything in this cover story about the WalMart controversy? Or was Dave Marsh there to prevent embarrassing political questions from being asked?

Eddie | 1/22/2009, 7:14 pm EST

Fantastic, how Bruce is with us fans, can just fans explain and feel.
This is awesome, Thanks RS and Bruce.

See you on the tour Bruce and the Band :)

charlie1 | 1/23/2009, 1:41 pm EST

Hey dicksuck,no one gives a shit what you think, just because there are no new bands that can touch the old rockers!!!Quit taking Rolling Stone…

John IShkabibbelwitzky | 1/23/2009, 9:45 pm EST

Hey, Mr. Dicksuk is right you freakin morons on here. Springsteen sucks! what part about that don’t you get!
He IS NOT the working mans hero, you fools, he sold out to Walmart, and lives a pampered, upscale lifestyle! So all you assholes better hear me good . . we are all TIRED of Bruce, Billy, & Elton, with their same old shit all these years.
I’m just out of jail, if any of youze got a problem , then step right up here, by the way, Rolling Stone Magazine sucks too, hose ass kissing bastards!

ThunderRoad | 1/24/2009, 11:08 am EST

To the guy who just got out of jail, it sounds like you got hosed a lot in the shower. Calm down, its only music.

TJOAD | 1/24/2009, 2:53 pm EST

John S. must have been in jail for long time, not aware that Springsteen continues to put out new music that is fresh and diverse. I think his freedom will be short lived

Richard | 1/26/2009, 5:25 am EST

Love Rolling Stone and Bruce still Rocks. Who cares about Wallmart. We all shop there and Bruce has always sold music there. New album is stunning.

Dave | 1/27/2009, 1:20 pm EST

I just love these people that will take any shot that they can at a true artist. The Rising, Devils & Dust, Seger Session, Magic, and now Working on A Dream all solid works that have different sounds and textures is what a true musican is capable of making. If you want the same thing over and over again then buy Tom Petty, AC/DC and Jack Johnson. To all the detractors and nah sayers keep on raining Bruce is still the parade.

jdbuckjr | 1/28/2009, 10:13 am EST

I like Bruce fine, but five stars??
Is that like Exile on Main Street five stars? or London Calling five stars? It’s really THAT good?
I know you gotta sell mag’s and, by extension, records for the artists on the cover of your mag. But FIVE stars? Sheeeesh. Way to look objective RS.

metoo | 1/31/2009, 3:43 am EST

Springsteen’s music appeals mostly to people of low intelligence
which is a majority of the American population.
No surprise that he has become a prostitute for Wal*Mart, where his moron fans shop.
