  • Slipknot’s Corey Taylor tells Billboard he’s working on a solo album without side project Stone Sour that sounds “kind of a cross between the Foo Fighters and Social D, with some Johnny Cash mixed in.”

  • E!’s Marc Malkin has the exclusive scoop that Jennifer Hudson will sing the national anthem before the Super Bowl on February 1st, marking her first return to the spotlight since the murders of her mother, brother and nephew.
  • The Osbourne’s upcoming Fox variety show Rock Daily told you about in July now has a nameOsbournes Reloaded — and vague plans to feature Pamela Anderson and pie-tossing.
  • Virgin Megastore’s flagship (and tourist-packed) store in New York’s Times Square will close in April because its landlord can make more rent off a Forever 21. Since it’s the highest volume music store in the U.S., this does not bode well for physical music sales, and leaves Virgin with only five remaining shops.

first we lose tower records and now Virgin is closing its Times Square store.
Where the hell do we get music now? And I mean real music, not the top 40 garbage found in Target. Target has the worst selection of music.
This is a sad day for music.
I am still “old school” when purchasing my CDs. I like to read the jacket and information. The Fireman CD is a good example of a great packaged CD, same for Oasis, Dig Out Your Soul.
This sucks.

Amazon, my friend.

Also, pretty much every new album on iTunes now has a pdf with all the album artwork and notes.

You can still buy CDs off stores like Amazon or maybe local mom and pop shops. I’m sure CDs will still be printed, but their place in a brick and mortar store is quickly starting to look like a bookshelf next to the vinyl bin.

I was sad about the dying record store years ago after all the independant record stores closed in my town. I am slowly becoming converted to itunes (not by choice but by necesity) Get used to change everyone. The record store is dead!

GOD Damn it correy, dude Slipknot is the nine, YOUR nine, you guys have been through so much and yet you still hold onto side projects… Not even joking, You need to devote all free time “wasted with shit on the side” and get more touring with Slipknot. Its been so long since subliminal versus tours. Mayhem Fest you got your voice back. Now im going to All hope is gone so im hoping its still great.

FUCKIN RIGHT…..SliPKnoT is the single best band in the world that anyone will ever listen to. Corey, fuck all those other people…side projects are always worth it because it gives multiple atmospheres for influence and inspiration. So rock on dude….and to the band…out

I was at Slipknot’s homecoming
show in Des Moines tonight..

oh my .. Corey’s voice was like thunder.. great show, band was tight. awesome stage and effects.. you’ll love it.

Leave it to a band from Iowa to carry the torch for what is sadly becoming an dying art- the arena rock show.

Great show.. Coheed and C were a great opener

christ puppet | 2/2/2009, 1:52 pm EST

im sick of all you people plagueing this fucking server with lame ass comments. Corey- as a fellow artist, i strongly understand just how tempting it is to do side projects. Fame is overrated. You can spend your whole life trying to get everyone to notice you, but as long as everyone has opinions, there will be some who refuse. remember that.

Rob T sir, I couldn’t agree with you more! This does suck. Tower was my favorite then I turned to Virgin. Now, I’m stuck with best buy and target crap. =[
