Coldplay, Lil Wayne, Jonas Brothers To Perform At Grammys

Coldplay, Lil Wayne, the Jonas Brothers and Kenny Chesney will perform at this year’s Grammy Awards, set to air live from Los Angeles on CBS February 8th. Weezy’s appearance at the Grammys should come as no surprise: He’s up for a ceremony-leading eight awards, plus he’s played pretty much every other awards show, from the Country Music Awards to the VMAs. The Coldplay performance was also foreshadowed by the band’s seven nods and already-scheduled gig playing the MusiCares benefit concert in Los Angeles in the days leading up to the ceremony. Wayne and Coldplay will compete against each other — as well as Radiohead, Robert Plant & Alison Krauss and Ne-Yo — for the prestigious Album of the Year.

The Jonas Brothers, who are up for Best New Artist, will also perform as the Grammys attempt to pull in a younger television audience. In fact, the Grammys used their own Twitter page to reveal who would perform at this year’s event before sending out a press release. The Grammys even set up LastFM and Facebook pages. Keeping with the youth theme, the show’s My Grammy Moment will feature Katy Perry, nominated for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance for “I Kissed A Girl” but snubbed for “Best New Artist.”

Chesney, who’s up for Best Country Collaboration with Vocals for “Shiftwork,” was added to the performance lineup this morning. According to the press release, additional performers, presenters and special segments will be announced soon. Stick with Rolling Stone for all your Grammy needs in the weeks leading up to the music industry’s biggest event — we’ll have rock-star predictions, photos galore and our finest reporters on the ground on the big day.

I’m still trying to figure out what exactly is the point of music awards shows… (or any arts/entertainment awards shows for that matter.)

Isn’t all art subjective? Who’s really to say what is better than another?

respond to annon | 1/14/2009, 11:27 am EST

that is true, but some people have this need for acceptance, i guess you could say, and when their favorite band wins an award or two, they feel like something apart of something bigger.

i agree that art is totally subjective, but then, one could argue, are some of the musicians nominated even artists at all? i mean, im not a fan of naming names but (no, thats a lie), Katie Perry? i mean, she’s very pretty, yes, but there’s no ART in her ‘art.’ Same with the Jonas Brothers. it’s all a sales gimmick.

go jonas!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

jonathon | 1/14/2009, 3:20 pm EST

oh the jonas brothers…i just think this is funny especially if they’re playing in the presence of Radiohead. Seriously, I wonder how they’re going to react to most of the crap artists playing…it’s just ridiculous.

Jonathon | 1/14/2009, 3:21 pm EST

I think Radiohead should perform, just to show all the artists, that are there, how to really perform, without all the glitter over top.

Anonymous | 1/14/2009, 3:35 pm EST

Radiohead may be up for Album Of The Year, but I highly doubt they’d even show up to the ceremony… Perhaps they’d send over Phil Selway or something, as their token member.

You know, reading through all these previous comments, I hope Coldplay win just so all the “love u ur so hot lil wayne” people encounter a reality check as to what real music is all about.

Either them or Radiohead, even though I enjoyed Viva La Vida more.

pathetic | 1/15/2009, 5:05 pm EST

wow!how pathetic can the grammys get? i mean i have a little respect for little wayne…and i do mean little but the fuckin jonas brothers what the hell? and i didnt forget you did a cover story on the jonas brothers rolling stone. rolling stone and the grammys make my soul weep when they do this kind of shit….

give us a break | 1/15/2009, 5:27 pm EST

Does anyone take the grammy’s seriously anymore? It’s not about the music it’s all about what spoon feed garbage the music industry is pushing on the public this year.

kbrea13 | 1/15/2009, 8:06 pm EST

I would have to agree with most that the Jonas brothers have no place at the Grammys. I guess I feel if Coldplay play is headlining, whom are so incredibly talented, the Jonas Brother’s have no place on that stage. I am honestly disappointed that the Grammy’s would give into this teen sensation, whose music will not sustain any popularity once these tweens become past the age of 18.

sum dude | 1/16/2009, 12:17 am EST

wayne is wack, so is coldplay, katie perry, jonas brothers. they all suck the big one. but since they are all on the radio every two seconds people are forced to just except them as the best the music world has to offer. wayne has no flow or substance. people just like his so called swagger and girls think the ugly fuck is good looking. if he wins all 8 grammys, i will flip out. im tired of all these overated, over hyped individuals getting awards they dont deserve.
if the grammys actually had performers that can actually play music that speaks for its self then maybe they wont have to worry about ratings. thats wat made the grammys worth watching back in the day. good music being performed by real artist. not the crazy dance heavy performances of today. whitney houston could wow a crowd with just her voice. cant see that now cuz none of them can sing live. you cant tell me any of these performers on this list can do that.

WestCoast | 1/16/2009, 3:20 am EST

Lil Wayne, Jonas, who is next, Britney and her lip sink?….Complete joke for a lineup.
Get some real RocknRoll up there….Lars & James….make it happen

Lisa | 1/16/2009, 10:06 am EST

GO JONAS BROTHERS i love them there amazing!!! there music is awsome and idc what anyone else says about them because i will never change my mind there all so talented

Anonymous | 1/16/2009, 11:15 am EST

The Grammys haven’t been legitimate in the world of music for like…10 years. This really comes as no surprise.

DamitaJo | 1/16/2009, 2:08 pm EST

Wow. I remember when I used to watch the Grammys and learn about new artists I had never heard of. Artists who were making really quality music that was overlooked by mainstream radio. It was great to see the Grammys truly award talent over popularity. Now with Lil Wayne and the Jonas Brothers, there is very little difference between the Grammys and the VMAs. Pretty for the real musicians out there making incredible music.

skiptheintro | 1/16/2009, 3:15 pm EST

As a musician, the only reason I may want to get famous is so I can be invited to this worthless award show and piss all over the stage. I hope someone throws a shoe at one of these no talent hacks!!

Stephanie | 1/16/2009, 3:16 pm EST

Jonas Brothers definitely deserve to be at the Grammys this year with a nomination, they did so much this year and their music is awesome!

rock for life. | 1/16/2009, 7:45 pm EST

man they should have ac/dc perform. they will show all these hacks how its done. they dont need crazy dancing sequences or lip syncing. they just rock the shit out of the song there playing. the jonas brothers can learn how to rock on guitar from one of the most entertaining guitarist around. but they probably wont put them on, because theyre to old. well i say fuck it. let america know that real rock n roll still exist out there. not this formulated pop shit thats bin the norm the last ten years.

Amber | 1/16/2009, 9:30 pm EST

Go Jonas!!!!!!!!!!!! =)
They r so gunna win the grammy 4 best new artist nd they r gunna do soooo good performing. all the h8ers needa stop hatin on JB nd ll the other ppl performin

jonascrazy101 | 1/16/2009, 9:45 pm EST

The Jonas Brothers so deserve the Grammy!! They have been the hardest working band this past year. They are so talented it is unbelievable!!! They are not just a tween girl band, they have some of the best songs, it’s just that the radio stations don’t give them the air time that they deserve. I LOVE them and wish them the best.

katsman | 1/17/2009, 11:39 am EST

weezy is just tha f*****g best rapper in da whole mtfkn world talkin bout coldplay?men they jus da best rocksters for real

Mate33 | 1/17/2009, 12:46 pm EST

I think coldplay is the most decent out of the 3 people… Lil Wayne just yells and jumps around shows off his ass and eww… He is seriously ugly…also jonas brothers are from Disney…jonas brothers are new artist and really annoying I think we get enough of them from entertainment news, disney, and girls at school constantly talking about them… coldplay is decent and they can actually play music… jonas brothers are all about love and girls even though they haven’t hook up with anyone I think..I really don’t know anything about them…also lil Wayne raps about money, fu**ing girls with big asses and what? how much money he has… coldplay is pretty good actually…

brendan | 1/17/2009, 1:43 pm EST

Grammys are lame. Better than last few years though. About time radiohead gets an album of the year nom. But honestly I don’t need a sell out awards show to tell me what music is the ‘best.’. I’ll figure it out for myself

bowe | 1/17/2009, 2:03 pm EST

This is ridiculous. Where are the rock stars??? I respect Coldplay and maybe even Lil Wayne, but the Jonas Fucking Brothers? What the hell?

spine ache | 1/17/2009, 5:50 pm EST

Robert Plant dserves it for all his previous solo albums. Coldplay is nice but hardly great.

bubble1 | 1/17/2009, 8:02 pm EST

I remember when Radiohead won for OK Computer, but were not invited to perform because their music would not fit in. How stupid is that?

sum dude | 1/18/2009, 2:40 am EST

i give cold play credit for playing music, though its not really that good. but they don’t rock, in the true sense of the word. their music to me is like u2’s, boring. lil wayne is no where near the best rapper alive. there are many rappers that can tear him a new one. im tired of the lil wayne dick riders out there. they piss me off more then he does. but like i said the grammys ratings are slumping because they get these shitty boring people to perform. and their all the same. either lifeless like coldplay or just a mess like lil wayne. get real performers out there like they did back in the day. and people would watch again.

anony | 1/18/2009, 3:19 pm EST

The grammys have always been boring sice ive watched them-2000.
no one cares or remembers who wins anymore. the show is very boring and too long. they need to sell out majorily if they want an audience!! haha…

Just plain Bill | 1/19/2009, 10:01 pm EST

I can’t even be objective about the Viva la Vida waste of plastic. Hope they wake up and start playing again. That thing just plain sucked. Suppose they’ll buy it back?

Sierra-this best is... | 1/20/2009, 6:37 pm EST

I love the Jonas Brothers
I love Coldplay
I love Lil Wayne
I love Katy Perry

yeah I don’t care who wins
I just like them all
you shouldn’t give the Jonas Brothers shit about anything

they might not have the best quality music and it might be pop, but they are hard working and they do have talent

same with Lil Wayne
not the best quality music, but he does have talent and he does work hard

the other two I don’t like quite as much so I cannot defend them as much

jimbo13 | 1/23/2009, 10:27 am EST

yhe jones bros ar so fuking gay thay cany see strat lil wayne is the shit dont eny one say shit about him and the other giy hes all rite but cartetr is beter amille is the bomb

The Jonas Brothers ?!?! Give me a break. Another less than talented group to perform at the grammys

Alex | 1/26/2009, 11:27 pm EST

Some of these comments are ridiculous. The Jonas Brothers very well deserve to perform as well as be nominated. I dont know if you have noticed, they are all over in the music industry, tv shows, award shows etc. Give some respect to groups who are making a buzz in the music business. Haha quite frankly your comments dont effect the millions of dollars they are making.I have listened to their music and its not just Disney Pop, they write their own music, they arent little disney robots. Just the fact that Disney is their label is why they get grief. GET OVER IT.

*Weezy's-Baby* | 1/28/2009, 9:53 pm EST

Lil’ Wayne da bomb like…tic tic!
Hes got alotta talent & actually knows howta use it.

WEEZY F BABY | 2/7/2009, 11:11 pm EST

The only reason I am even going to watch the Grammy’s is because of Lil Wayne! The Jobro’s so-called music is not good. I actually think they seem like nice people but, the truth is the truth! Their attempt at music SUCKS.

Kenny Chesney, well, his music has gone down hill along with most of the country singers.

Brittany | 2/8/2009, 1:32 pm EST

“Alex” i couldn’t agree with you more! :) the Jonas Brothers should have some respect. They’re some of the busiest guys in the music industry. they’re constantly working and definitely deserve this nomination & to perform. I heard they’re performing with Stevie Wonder, who happens to be one of Nick’s biggest inspirations, that should be an interesting performance :) but yeah, their music IS NOT “manufactured disney pop,” at all. yeah, their management is Disney, okay…SO WHAT!? Disney actually lets them have their OWN control over their music. They DO write all their own material. Unlike most people out of the, “Disney mold.” most of these people leaving “hate comments,” probably haven’t even given their music a REAL listen, without automatically letting that Disney stereotype they have of them get the best of them. BEST OF LUCK TO NICK, JOE & KEVIN JONAS.

Anonymous | 2/8/2009, 11:13 pm EST

The jonas brothers ARE a disney product. Real musicians don’t have magazines, action figures, ect. because that ISN’T what music is about, that’s shit for movies and actors. I’ve listened to many JoBro songs on the radio, along with weezy and all of that shitty stuff, and It doesn’t appeal to me. It follows the same formula that every other copy band has. Shitty pop + shitty rap. I’m glad Eddie Vedder and Radiohead got a grammy, even though grammys don’t mean shit when a two-bit rapper and three prepubescent three-chord queers get one. Your sales don’t mean success, it means the companies don’t put out good music, and so people don’t look and see what’s out there. I can name millions of better stuff than this shit, from different time periods, back when talent was cool and marketable.

Grammys are now void/null | 2/8/2009, 11:27 pm EST

“Art” is originality and uniqueness. The jonas brothers sound like lots of other bands, and they’re really not doing anything new. They’re just given hundreds of thousands of dollars to promote themselves while much more deserving artists just make a living. No musician should make more than a cop/firefighter/construction worker, neither should actors. They should be paid enough to live comfortably, because it’s ridiculous. I’m just a kid, an aspiring musician who cares a lot about the music, and I feel that they’re ridiculous. Just because you can compose your own songs don’t mean they’re good and well thought out. Eight year old miley cyrus fans don’t realize or care about that, because they’re too young to think or question things, or have their own taste.

It’s sad, because our youth is being starved of real talent out there that can’t be heard because it wouldn’t “sell” and wouldn’t be good to play in a bar/club. Fortunately, bands like Pearl Jam and Radiohead have kept on going, though it’s much less exposure than in the past.

I have nothing against Coldplay, but they haven’t done anything new. Some of their music is catchy, but that’s about it. They’re not the best thing in the world, and neither are ANY of the other grammy nominations. It’s all money bullshit, none of the music is actually art when it’s compromised to be commercially popular for sales and merchandise. It’s a monopoly, in a way, and it’s unfair to the real musicians, but I guess ten year olds’ll read this and get butthurt, and say “OH YEAH? TRY MAKING A BILLION DOLLARS LIKE THEM THEN WE’LL TALK”.. You shallow, ignorant little meatbags fail to realize that, in the musician world, these people AREN’T looked upon as idols and trend setters, they’re fucking puppets and tools. Money doesn’t make good music, talent and passion makes good music. ANYONE can play, but people who do something different usually aren’t appreciated until they’re dead and people realize that it’s gold. The Jonas Brothers aren’t as talented as, say, howling wolf or BB king, because their music is marketed, and their images are whored out to little kids (usually girls) and the elderly.

TLDR; Money earned means nothing about your talent, because people can fart into mics in youtube videos and get 500,000 views, and it doesn’t mean that the video’s worth watching unless you’re an immature 5 year old. If the Jonas Brothers made no money, you wouldn’t be saying that. Most musicians wouldn’t really care if they made a ridiculous amount of cash, and are happy/would be happy by just making a living through music. The Jobros don’t have any real credibility among their “own kind”, though I wouldn’t consider them musicians. :/

Grammys are now void/null | 2/8/2009, 11:33 pm EST

“I remember when Radiohead won for OK Computer, but were not invited to perform because their music would not fit in. How stupid is that?”

Well, ain’t THAT a surprise? lol

Lil Wayne isn’t intelligent in any way, and raps over 20 beat per minute songs in a droning voice like he’s fucked up. Most of his fans, as shown if you scroll down, can’t type in complete sentences either and probably don’t have a high enough IQ to do so.

“i agree that art is totally subjective, but then, one could argue, are some of the musicians nominated even artists at all? i mean, im not a fan of naming names but (no, thats a lie), Katie Perry? i mean, she’s very pretty, yes, but there’s no ART in her ‘art.’ Same with the Jonas Brothers. it’s all a sales gimmick.”

Couldn’t have said it better myself, man. Katie Perry? It’s good background noise for a brooklyn club, but it’s not a very touching, truly emotional artist. ANYONE can fake emotions with a strained voice, frown, sad face, ect.

Brittany | 2/9/2009, 8:23 am EST

i’m sorry but if these “hate” comments continue like this, i don’t understand. you obviously can’t stand the fact the a “disney band,” might actually be good. IT’S POSSIBLE. their dolls & whatnot that you mentioned, i agree. I wish they wouldn’t put those kind of this up on the market. They came to Disney AS musicians, & now they’re making them act. That’s the only thing i don’t like & wish that they could do without. BUT THEY’RE TRYING! they’re trying so hard to gain your respect, while also trying to keep one foot in the Disney area, and one foot in the big time, like the Grammys.

those boys were able to pull of a performance with STEVIE WONDER. if they didn’t know what they were doing, or didn’t have talent, the performance would’ve been a mess. listen, “Grammys are now void/null,” i’m a musician, too. you don’t think I care about the music. that’s the main reason i love them: I LOVE THEIR MUSIC. not because i’m “brainwashed” & i think i’m supposed to like it, i genuinely love it. yes, “art and originality,” is apart of music; But whether or not you LIKE it or not is a matter of opinion.

also, someone else on here said, “that they’ve heard their songs on the radio & their not that special,” UHMMM, that’s because they have ALBUMS. you shoud seriously try listening to one of them before you start bashing them. some of them contain amazing album cuts that never make it to mainstream radio. in my opinion, “Games,” is the best song they’ve ever written/recorded. NOT “Burnin’ Up,” (not saying that i don’t like it, because it do) but that one is more radio friendly, so that ones a “hit.” but please, DO NOT judge them just off of that one song. there’s more to them than that.

example: i’ve never listened to radiohead, or given them a chance yet. but i know nothing about them, so i’m not going to bash them or anything. & you people who continue to write hateful things, know nothing more about the jonas brothers than what you hear on the radio, and have this “disney is bad. these guys are ruining music” feelings toward them, that you just can’t seem to shake…

listen to one of their albums IN IT’S ENTIRETY, with an open mind. thank you :)

jonas lover | 2/9/2009, 4:46 pm EST

OMJ the jonas brothers are so cool i cant belive they got there award it is-was so cool

JV | 2/10/2009, 9:13 am EST

Brittany, I’m sorry but real musicians don’t like this kind of rubbish.

Real musicians feel music in a way you can’t probably understand.

Real musicians are not drawn to catchy melodies and plastic performances.

Real musicians expect what their listening to is real and heartfelt and not something produced in a music laboratory by the top music business there are so it can sell millions of records.

Real musicians write their own music. Check out The Mars Volta for instance or Nick Cave. These people are original, write and produce their own music and don’t make selling records their main objective. They care for expressing themselves first, if it sells, great.

Grammys is just a big advertisement extravaganza paid by the record labels so their artists sell even more records than they already sold. If it was a fair show they would have to analyze all the bands in the world properly so they could give the awards properly.

Path to winning an award.

1- Record label grabs or creates a band or artist.

2- They produce a couple crappy catchy singles and promote them so hard that most people, without understanding why, eventually start loving it and buy the album.

3- As brainwashing people with the aggressive promotion (TV, Radio, Internet, Flyers, Magazines, Posters, Newspapers, etc) is not enough they award them so they can get the ones that resisted the brainwash and surrender to the wrong fact that if these bands received an award “I must buy the album or I don’t know what good music is(”and I want to talk to the brainwashed about the music THEY were brainwashed to love”) and I’m a moron”.

There are amazing artists out there creating music that blows all these bands away, you just have to try a bit harder to find them instead of simply listening to what you’re told to listen to.

Do yourself and real artists a favor. Listen to what’s outside the box.

Alex | 2/10/2009, 9:32 am EST

A little analogy.

This is just like food.

Some people buy frozen food, fast food and all kinds of rubish that it’s being advertised on TV.

Others, like home made meals, a nice cake baked at home, home made natural juices, fresh vegetables, etc.

Translate that to music terms and you’ll see where you fit.

The first is bad quality but it sells because it’s advertised constantly. The second is for people that like quality and meaning.

Brittany | 2/10/2009, 9:21 pm EST

“JV,” i’m a little insulted by your comment. i AM a real musician, & music is my absolute life. ‘REAL’ musicians can be attracted to catchy choruses…they can be attracted to whatever music they want. there’s no rule that says, if your a musician, you need to listen to music that’s complex. a little simplicity never hurt anyone :)

i write my own music, as well, it’s my way of venting, sometimes to the point where i’m crying in my room, dude. i HAVE in fact, been moved by music, & i understand what that’s like. so please don’t tell me i wouldn’t be able to understand that. i listen to the jonas brothers, as well as green day & the rolling stones. i love all kinds of music & artists. but JB just so happen to be on the top of my list. (second to green day, of course.)

honestly, i love their music, & i have full trust that they wrote it. just because their management is Disney, and they promote them a lot or whatever, doesn’t mean they don’t write their own material. read the liner notes of the album, please. their names are marked as the songwriters of every single song. maybe once or twice their producer, John Fields, or one of their band members, Greg Garbowsky or John Taylor, who are good friends of theirs and have been with them since the beginning, name’s are there in addition to their own. Keep in mind, nick is just barely 16, AND the chief songwriter of the group. (my point is, they’re still young & they will eventually mature musically. But for 16, i think he’s pretty DARN talented.) Now, i’m only talking once in a blue moon here that the other people are writing with them, too…& anyways, that’s understandable to have some help. at least THEY’RE actually writing it with people they’re close to, and personally know, instead of some random songwriter handing them a song.

** When i listen to the jonas brothers, i feel free. i listen to them to get away. if i’m feeling down, i’ll put on one of their albums and i’m in another world, where nothing else matters anymore. now, you may not even be able to wrap your mind around how their music can make me feel that way, but that’s just because their music doesn’t speak to you in the same way that it speaks to me. different music, moves all different kinds of people. but when you really get down to it, it all comes back to opinion in the end, like i’ve said before. You just listen to what you personally understand, love, and what makes YOU feel good. **

ohh & i almost forgot…i was not “TOLD” to listen to the jonas brothers at all, or by promotion or whatever crazy ideas you came up with. i CHOSE to listen to them. i started listening to them before ANYONE even knew who they were. i remember hearing them for the first time & loving them. I immediately downloaded all the songs i could find by them, and became a fan, on my own. So there goes your “mass promotion brainwashing,” theory ;) and for us, the real fans, we don’t pay attention to all that promotion. we know that they’re here, and what they’re doing. i’m slightly annoyed by all of the promotion now, but hey! we have no control over it. I’m also a upset that all the fans are stereotyped as, “stupid teenies who know nothing about music,” – i’m not that.
And i’m sure a lot of other fans aren’t either. Also, when you insult the boys and their music, you insult us. You insult what we love, & that’s not a great feeling :(
Now listen, please, i’m not trying to change your mind about them or whatever, i’m just all about ACTUALLY giving all artists a fair chance :) i’m completely against judging people, as well. for instance, just because i listen to the jonas brothers you assumed that i must not be a “REAL” musician. which, clearly was false judgement. Also, i don’t see why that would be a bad thing anyway. once again, it’s a PERSONAL OPINION.

Like, i normally wouldn’t get so into a conversation like this online, over another band that i might like, a little less than the jonas brothers. But when your a fan, and i mean a real jonas brothers fan, you not only love them on a musical level, but on a personal level, too. when you’ve been supporting them from the beginning, like i have…as well as thousands of other fans, you’ve seen them grow and evolve into the guys they are today and really see just how far they’ve come & i personally couldn’t be more proud of them :) after a while, you just really get to love them as people, (AND of course for their music) but that’s one of the main reasons i get so aggravated when people talk so badly about them. They don’t deserve that, NO artist deserves that.

that’s all! i’m just a fun-loving, equal-rights kind of person :) i’m open to seeing all sides of a situation, but i really just wanted to throw my side out there! because this side, of this particular situation, coming from a true fan, is seldom ever heard.
-thank you!

Brittany, they will disappear in a couple of years when they get a bit older and uglier. It’s just a hype.

They might have writing credits but’s that doesn’t mean they wrote anything. All Boys bands and manufactured artists get writing credits as a part od the deal and not because they actually wrote anything.

I’m a musician and a session guitarist and been involved with manufactured music in the past (then I got out because I hate the way those people see music as just a business) and I know how these things work.

I think their music is well done and well produced obviously because it’s done by the best of the “Brainwash factory = Disney”.

Well, if you’re a teenager I understand you loving them, I would probably love them too if I didn’t have a more mature aproach and needs when it comes to music. If you’re an adult, well, I’m sorry but this shouldn’t be your number one band.

Anyway, in the next couple years they will separate, go solo and still have some success. Then they will disapear and maybe in 15 years time make a reunion, release a best of with a new lousy single and tour so they can make disney a few more millions and get their 1% cut out of it so they don’t have to work in a walmart.

p.s. Crying when writing and listening to music doesn’t make you a musician. You could simply have a psychological disorder. Go see a psychologist as soon as possible.

It’s very simple.

Go check all your CDs and mp3s.

If most your music collection is made of number ones and best selling albums you’ve been caught in the web of the major record labels. Music is just simple entertainment for you and not a passion.

If you have a few bands that are more of a cult but some mainstream bestselling too. You’re more passionate but still like to be aware of what everybody’s talking about.

If your collection is made only of music no one you know has ecer listened too. You’re a complete music freak and you don’t let anyone tell you what to listen to. You don’t let yourself be caught in hypes. You have a free mind when it comes to music.

Which one are you?

Brittany | 2/11/2009, 6:46 am EST

you really don’t understand, do you?

you’re still judging me here, bud.
opinions, opinions…

listen, Hanson isn’t mainstream anymore, but they’re amazing musicians (& if you don’t believe me, go to http://www.concert.tv, search Hanson, & watch their acoustic set.) they started out like the jonas brothers, and people STILL don’t give Hanson respect, even though they really do deserve it and are a ridiculously god-qiven, talented family. Well, what i’m saying is, Hanson faded from the Big time, but are still touring & making albums, and their real fans…are still there. i know i’ll always be here for the jonas brothers, and so will so many other people.

honestly, i hope they read all these negative comments about them. i hope it makes them mad. i hope it makes them want to leave Disney, which is the main thing you REALLY can’t get over, dude, & branch out, and gain people’s respect, stay around for a long LONG time, and prove every last one of you who doubted them WRONG.

i go to a arts high school as a music major & attend berklee college of music, part time. so once again, please don’t talk down to me like i’m an immature child who doesn’t know better. i’ve said it once, and i’ll say it again, their music is what i like. PERIOD. whooo-hooo. what are you going to do?! go try to tell everyone they’re listening to manufactured crappy music & completely insult their taste…no. that’s rude :(

you’re really underestimating me right now, and #1: you don’t even know me. & #2: crying over music, does in fact mean that you connect to it in some way, and that it really does deeply move you.

i wrote this to some dude on youtube when this got me really upset before, so i’m just going to send it to you now. some of the things i might have already said but ohh, well:

“i’m seriously insulted that you think all jonas fans are stupid “fan girls.”
i am a fan, & proud to be one, and i am not one of the people who just
say “OMG! THEY’RE SO HOT!” because that’s the sign of a FAKE FAN.

i love the jonas brothers because of their MUSIC (& personalities.)

1. THEIR MUSIC IS FUN AND YOUTHFUL : let me elaborate here, their music can cheer me up any day of the week. I can just pop on one of their albums, and bam! nothing matters any more. it’s just so fun a puts a smile on my face :) [that's not the best reason, but i have more]

2. I LOOK UP TO THEM BECAUSE I’M A MUSICIAN, TOO : okay, i’m a musician and i post on youtube & i look up to them. when i first REALLY started to listening to them in about, 2006-2007, with the release of their self titled, “Jonas Brothers” album i thought, “wow, these guys are touring the world, and WRITING AND MAKING their own music.” epically nick, being the same age as myself. they inspired me to try to make it even more. If three brothers from jersey can do it, i can, too. And i’m sure other people feel the same. Have you heard the instrumental version of their “Jonas Brothers” album? it’s incredible. I believe they put it on iTunes to show what they can really do! half the time i listen to the instrumental version more than the regular :) i appreciate the MUSIC, thank you very much.

3. YES, THEY’RE YOUNG – BUT THEY DON’T SUCK : okay, i know the jonas brothers music isn’t “AMAZING,” even i can admit that. But it’s pretty DARN good considering that they write most of it BY THEMSELVES. the “disney” thing will fade. they’re big enough to leave and do their own thing. Hopefully, can expand their musical knowledge and learn so much more and make music that can relate to everyone! Not just “teeny-boppers” because of the disney stereotype. Which is the main reason you “haters” can’t be bothered to really give them a chance. heres an idea for you…GET OVER IT. everyone starts somewhere. they’ll musically get better in time. they will leave disney – eventually. although it may take a while to get out of the shadow of disney, they will leave.

4. THEIR MUSIC (right now) SPEAKS TO A YOUNG AUDIENCE, LIKE THEMSELVES : alright, their catchy choruses, guitar riffs, and lyrics all relate to the youth of society today. we can’t help it if we enjoy listening to it. OK, now personally, i like it when they take the more mature route with their sound like on “Lovebug,” “Can’t Have You,” or “Hello Beautiful.” it’s classic jonas but with a more mature sound to it. Now, of course i don’t mind the fun, pop-ish songs either like, “BB Good, ” “Australia” (-great song by the way, one of my personal favorites) or, “Hollywood.” (-although the lyrics are pretty mature in that song. despite the catchy melody & music.) Hopefully, as they grow, they can keep that initial sound, but with a more broader appeal :]

5. SIMPLICITY IS THE KEY : the jonas brothers music may not be completely complex,
it’s fairly simple. But that doesn’t mean anything! Some of the best songs were composed
of three chords or so. Take Green Day, for example. They are my favorite band. EVER. I could go on & on about their musical abilities, but they also are one of the biggest, well known bands in the country, and they always talk about how they can continue making great music with a simple 3 to 4 chord structure in their songs.

*So don’t hate by saying…”go listen to real music you jonas fans!” or “you wouldn’t know real music if it hit you in the face,” or however you choose to insult us. because, MUSIC IS MUSIC. no other way around it. Metal may not be considered music to some people, but i respect it. & i’m sure many other people do too. Some people may not like country music, but other people love it. And some people may not like the current pop/rock of the world today, like the jonas brothers. But that’s no reason to hate on them the way you do. let them do what they do instead of constantly trying to take them down. it’s not very fair.

thank you for reading all of this. i finally just felt the need to speak my mind.

You love them vecause of their personalities? Where do you know them from? TV?

I think you used the wrong word there.

Like I said if you’re young I understand that you like them. But the truth is one day you’ll mature too and realize that this music was manufactured.
You love it, fair enough, it was made to be loved in the end.

You showed of your music college now we want to listen to your music abilities. Don’t brag and hide.

I’m only using The jonas as an example. I have nothing against the poor kids, but do have against major record labels.

I think you should expand your musical taste. Being in love with one band is a typical teenager thing. You should listen to at least an unkown band per day so you can mature your taste in music and become a more eclectic musician yourself.

I don’t have a favorite band because I’m always experience new bands all the time. Otherwise it’s like watching the same movie everyday instead of expanding the knowledge and experience.

Anyway don’t think it’s personal. I’m just picking you randomly to talk about this tainted music industry.

Maybe one day you’ll understand what I’m talking about. It’s not about personal taste or anything like that. It’s about major record labels killing all the real artists with this sort of brainwashing.

I hope you carry on being a musician so one day when you start trying to get into this business and realize it’s all a bunch of money hungry sharks using and disposing people as they please so they can have their mansions and swimming pools.

If music wasn’t controlled by these sharks everybody would have a fair chance and only the real true passionate artists would make it.

Truth be said, if the music industry didn’t generate any money you wouldn’t have any of these sort of artists because in the end it’s all about the money and fame and not the art of expressing themselves.

Ask most of these glam pop acts if they would be willing to buy a rusty old van and get on the road with no conditions, no 5 star hotels, no hairdressers, no make up artists, etc? Would them or people like Britney spears or any boys band be willing to grab a few instruments a play for peanuts? I don’t think so.

A true musician doesn’t need any of this things. A tru artist only aims to express what they feel, making money is an added bonus. And this is the truth. These Pop people are not musicians, they’re entertainers. And that’s the big difference.

p.s. We’ll be waiting on your music if you dare.

Listen to Unsigned artists and give them a chance. Why do people keep feeding the major record labels I don’t understand.

We should download this manufactured stuff and pay for the Unsigned acts. Soon enough we would have a balance.

Listen to Mattrach (instrumental), The forensics (Pop rock (UK)), My Enchantment (Metal (Portugal)), Jorge Vasques (Instrumental), Sacred Mother Tongue (Metal),etc. These are the people I’m following for instance. And I will buy or have bought their stuff to support them and not some Disney kids with no talent.
