Bruce Springsteen, Beyoncé, U2’s Bono, Mary J. Blige and Sheryl Crow are among the artists that will perform at We Are One: The Obama Inaugural Celebration, taking place at Washington, DC’s Lincoln Memorial on Sunday, January 18th. The event is free to the public and will be broadcast on HBO. The lineup also includes John Mellencamp, James Taylor, Usher, Stevie Wonder, Will.i.am, John Legend, Shakira and Garth Brooks. Additionally, Queen Latifah, Denzel Washington, Jamie Foxx and Martin Luther King III will give historical readings at the event.

The We Are One show will kick off four days worth of events before President-Elect Barack Obama is inaugurated into office. The Beastie Boys and Sheryl Crow will team up for the horribly named “Hey, America Feels Kinda Cool Again” concert on January 19th at the 9:30 Club. That same night, Jay-Z revealed he’d play the Warner Theatre in the nation’s capital. Bela Fleck of Flecktones fame and Wynton Marsalis will also perform that night at a CNN event at the Kennedy Center. Finally, Marc Anthony and WAR will play the Latino Inaugural Ball on January 18th at Union Station.

The Washington Post previously reported that Springsteen would be involved in some sort of National Mall performance on the 18th, so it’s safe to assume this was the event they were discussing. Springsteen had played some swing state concerts in support of Obama during the campaign. John Mellencamp, John Legend and Will.i.am were also vocal about their support of Obama.

What if Obama, as president, falls on his face? I wonder if he’ll have all this support from RS and celebrities then ….
it’s funy that Rolling Stone has nothing on the Illinois mayor scandal and impeachment on their web site, yet they continue to attack a president that is already on his way out of office … good going guys. Way to be newsworthy and unbiased …..

Luke | 1/13/2009, 7:08 pm EST

that’s a worthless comment

DCchica | 1/13/2009, 7:18 pm EST

I don’t think anyone with a brain ever really thought RS was unbiased.

fiL | 1/13/2009, 7:52 pm EST

Rolling Stone is horribly slanted to the Democratic Party. The facts may be correct but the slant makes it so non-credible that it is pointless taking their journalism seriously. Stick to the other current affairs – other than politics.

matrose | 1/14/2009, 12:44 am EST

I don’t catch the bias everyone else is seeing in the article. It pretty much just tells you who’s playing where. Is it biased because these are concerts surrounding Obama’s inauguration? Sorry, but I don’t see it. I’m going to the concert at the Lincoln monument reflecting pool with my girlfriend. If you all want to sit at home, I’m sure you’ll miss some great music.

Blue | 1/14/2009, 7:42 am EST

Hypocritical, overhyped liberal millionaires get together to celebrate the beginning of 4 years of assaults on America, from the White House no less !
Nothing like washed-out corporate lackeys such as Springsteen and Bono to stick it in style to the real working class.

Hum, what’s that smell ?

matrose2 | 1/14/2009, 10:16 am EST

@matrose

well, at first i was indifferent and apathetic that you were seeing the concerts… but since your girlfriend is going, now i’m jealous…………………..

….

….

no one cares you have a girlfriend

HisMajestyMichael | 1/14/2009, 10:35 am EST

Whew…at least REAL artists
like Paul, Neil, Van, Chrissie,
Fogerty, and Bob, won’t BOW

CDICE | 1/14/2009, 11:07 am EST

I give “The Messiah” six months, maybe seven, until y’all finally wake-up and smell the coffee and see just what you’ve done to our country. Not that McCain/Palin was any better, mind you. But there were other parties, other choices…

NIN | 1/14/2009, 11:30 am EST

Really CDICE?!? There’s no way he can do more damage than that idiot who just left office. And I’m pretty sure you voted for him twice, didn’t you?

basser | 1/14/2009, 11:56 am EST

Luke, don’t you think it’s ironic and funny that Rolling Stone doesn’t have anything on their web site now of the Illinois gov. scandal re: Obama’s seat? Come on, you have to admit it’s a double standard. Had the Illinois governor been a Republican, oh my, Rolling Stone would have made a BIG deal about it.

harpo | 1/14/2009, 12:08 pm EST

You know I will be there for this!!!! I have the Kool-Aid concession, and I am gonna’make out like a bandit!!!! This will be soooo grooovy!!!!

Matty T…you’re my first customer!!!!

Joe | 1/14/2009, 12:44 pm EST

So when did bitter Republicans start confusing Rolling Stone with a newspaper?

What a joke | 1/14/2009, 12:49 pm EST

Paul, Neil, Van, Chrissie,
Fogerty, and Bob

None of them being overhyped millionaires, I guess

The Truth | 1/14/2009, 12:57 pm EST

What I think is funny is folks like Basser who continue to grasp at straws now that the writing is on the wall. Obama had nothing to do with what the Ill. governor did. Period. Point blank. Now if you would like to list all of Bush’s accomplishments here, I have a 3X5 card that will work nicely and leave you plenty of room.

Junior | 1/14/2009, 12:57 pm EST

Joe,

When was the last time you picked up a newspaper?…you get the same bias from the mainstream media you get in this magazine.

Were you around for the coverage of the past election???

Please understand what you are saying before you say it???

Don’t want to be accused of being an empty barrel do ya’ brother??

Joe | 1/14/2009, 1:16 pm EST

Junior, mah “brother”, I am fully aware of all biases mainstream media have, obviously some on this site think that Rolling Stone is a news reporting magazine. Just want to clarify that if they are looking for something “unbiased” from RS, they are looking in the wrong place. There are tons of newspapers that have a liberal bias and there are tons that have a conservative bias. It’s done under the guise of “impartiality”. That’s what people think they are getting out of newspapers. the same mainstream media fell in love with Sarah Palin for about 2 months. Good enough for you?

barker | 1/14/2009, 1:25 pm EST

ggtggg

Junior | 1/14/2009, 2:30 pm EST

Joe, Mah “brother”….where are you living??? The mainstream media in this country swings waaaay left…and they fell in “love” with Sarah Palin????? They were in the “tank” for Obama from the get go!!! That wasn’t love they were showing my friend….they tried to bury her!!!! We’ll get ya’ edumacated yet my man!!!!!

Junior | 1/14/2009, 2:32 pm EST

Basser…you make good sense.

Joe | 1/14/2009, 2:47 pm EST

Pointless to argue this. The “liberal” media will always be to blame for a Democratic shift, and the “conservative” media will always be to blame for a Republican shift. Everyone is shepherded into two choices, Junior. Rolling Stone is an entertainment magazine that has a liberal bias. My point is that it seems conservatives grasp at the eternal straw that RS should somehow represent the other side. My question is why? Stop beating a dead horse. No less than the New York Times, the Washington Post, and the San Diego Union-Tribune (a major CONSERVATIVE paper) had many favorable op-ed articles about Sarah Palin when she was introduced as McCain’s running mate. You and Basser can now join the “underground” and bitch about the status quo. and the beat goes on…

HisMajestyMichael | 1/14/2009, 2:53 pm EST

(What a joke says: Overhyped millionaires)
You MUST be talkin’ bout the
Pharoah-elect and his reject KD Lang groupie “Cabinet”?

Fred Sanford | 1/14/2009, 2:56 pm EST

Which way does FOX News (and all of its subsidiaries) swing?

What a joke | 1/14/2009, 3:14 pm EST

Maybe, but I could be talkin ’bout Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld and the Halliburton Millionaires Club, too!!!

Voice of Treason | 1/14/2009, 3:30 pm EST

Lest we all forget the so-called liberal left leaning communist pinko media dropping to their knees for his majesty George Bush and henchmen post-9/11 and post Operation Mission Accomplished starting in 2003. It must have been amazing that Bush fought his way through the “liberal” media in 2004 to win the election. What a guy.

Junior | 1/14/2009, 3:51 pm EST

Joe,

NY Times and Washington Post favorable toward Palin!!!! You got em’ laughin’ in the aisles now!!! VOICE of TREASON…nice try…did you get that from Uncle Marcos at The Daily Kos.
Nuff Said!!!!

Joe | 1/14/2009, 3:55 pm EST

Yeah. Check the Op-Ed pages of either paper over the past 6 months. Pretty easy to do.

MAGNO | 1/14/2009, 3:58 pm EST

Yo Fred Sanford,

We know..if it was up to you libs you would deep six any opposition to your lefty BS. If you would like that kind of environment….half-pint Chavez would welcome you with open arms in Venezuela. There’s flights leaving on the hour!!!! :)

Voice of Treason | 1/14/2009, 4:00 pm EST

Not knowing who Uncle Marcos or the Daily Koz are, Junior, does that make what I said any less true? And how about the FOX networks like Fred said? Care to comment?

Junior | 1/14/2009, 4:00 pm EST

Joe,

Keep talkin’…I think you ALMOST have yourself convinced now!!!! :)

Junior | 1/14/2009, 4:10 pm EST

OK VOICE MAN…..LIKE I’M SAYING…YOU ARE NOT LISTENING!!!!

I DID ANSWER HIM!

ONE STATION TO REFUTE ALL THE LIBERAL BS ON THE THREE MAJORS, OTHER CABLE STATIONS AND COUNTLESS PRINTED NEWS SOURCES….AND YOU FELLAS COMPLAIN ABOUT ONE STATION!!!!???

WE READ YOU VOICE…KOOL -AID COCKTAILS AT 1700 HOURS …..SIX TWO AND EVEN….OVER AND OUT!!!!

Joe | 1/14/2009, 4:10 pm EST

And of course, Junior, that really is the final answer. You don’t care to comment about aspects of what I said (FOX being conservative, actual printed words in newspapers) because its always easier to snipe from the sides. That’s cool, it won’t matter either way 4 or even 8 years from now. Either the new administration will do well or it won’t.

Voice of Treason | 1/14/2009, 4:32 pm EST

All the liberal “B.S.” from the three majors back in 2002 pretty much through 2006 carried your chimp. They were supporting the war and the president’s policies in every way they could think of. It really is a measure of how incompetent Bush was and is that he took the HIGHEST presidential approval rating in history (post 9/11, trumpeted by all MAJOR MEDIA OUTLETS ESPECIALLY THE BIG THREE, Bush’s strong leadership, decisiveness, blah blah blah) and turned it into the lowest.

Junior | 1/14/2009, 5:37 pm EST

Joe,
Read what I am saying….Fox is out there to provide the conservative alternative to all the libs out there. And there is no denying the media was in the “tank” for Obama from the get go. All your dancing around it doesn’t change the fact. As far as the NY TIMES and Washington POST..if you are trying to say that their editorial slant is not dangling to the left and their overall tone is not liberal…sorry pal….talk to the uninformed. Anyone who is paying attention knows where they are coming from.

And VOICE…the undermining of Bush began in the media as far back as 2003 and ratcheted up in intensity in the last two years. Don’t know how old you are but going back to the 50’s and even before, the news media has been slanted to the left. Look it up!!!! Gotta go….Pelosi is coming over for dinner!!!!!

Joe | 1/14/2009, 9:01 pm EST

No worries, Junior, I don’t dance around when I state facts. Have a good dinner and we’ll talk again in 4 years. If you look hard enough, you can find a left and right slant in any media outlet. Thats why I say look up any op-ed piece of any major newspaper over the last year and it will have both left and right wing views espoused. Look it up. It’s all about perception. Left or right makes no difference. They are both motivated by the same two things. As it is and so shall it always be, follow the money and follow the power. Whenever a conservative fucks up, the media is to blame and they were “undermined”. And when a liberal fucks up, they just fucked up, even with the conspiracy of the left-wing media helping them out and covering it all up.

Junior | 1/15/2009, 3:41 pm EST

Joe…you just said it all in your last sentence…only you’re a little confused “like most libs”….when it’s a Democrat we hear less about it and the media looks to bury it…..when it’s a Republican or someone of “conservative” leanings the media beats it to death so you never hear the end of it!!!! Either way there are scumbags on both sides!!!!

Gotta’ go …Bill Ayres is returning my call!!!!!!

Joe | 1/16/2009, 1:03 pm EST

You can’t run sarcasm past a bitter conservative.

CB | 1/19/2009, 8:31 am EST

Bono? Since when did he become a U.S. citizen. Oh that’s right Obama is the president of the world now.
FYI – WE’RE NOT “ONE”. HALF OF THE COUNTRY DOESN’T LIKE YOUR PRESIDENT JUST LIKE YOU DIDN’T LIKE OURS!
Unlike YOU people we will respect the office – but like YOU we will NEVER respect the man!

CB | 1/19/2009, 8:37 am EST

Voice of Treason – You’re comments are as silly as they come. Your argument is more about Fox news and then bashing a president that kept a country safe from another homefront attack since 9/11. What did Fox news do that was opposed to the other networks? I’ll tell you they made the mistake of giving equal time to peple like Alan Colmes, Bob Beckell, Juan Williams, Geraldo Rivera, etc etc etc. You cannot refute ANYTHING Fox has done because YOU NEVER HAVE WATCHED Fox – you have gone on the premise that so many of you imbecilic leftists go on – what you thought was the truth. Take your head out of the sand, go find a job, and then know what it is tio jave to get up everyday in order to support people that you don’t even know.

AspenFreePress | 5/13/2009, 7:16 pm EST

Yea, Obama! I would have been there to see the son of Stanley Ann Dunham, with whom I attended Hawkins Elementary in Texas, become President if I hadn’t become ill.
