Sonic Youth are reportedly in the final stages of recording their new album, the band’s first since 2006’s Rather Ripped. Thurston Moore tells Uncut the new album, which is still being called The Eternal, is “a record replete with juicy supersonic songs!” The band hopes to release their 16th studio album in June and will be their first as members of Matador Records’ galaxy of stars. “For Matador, the opportunity to work in partnership with a group who’ve made such an profound impact on our roster/hometown/collective consciousness was one to jump at,” the label said in a statement when the signing was announced. The group also premiered two new songs during a concert at Brooklyn’s McCarren Pool last summer. Sonic Youth were previously signed to DGC from 1990’s Goo until Rather Ripped (Though the band’s pre-Goo catalog was later reissued via DGC.)

I’m still upset Thurston said the Geffen albums were compromised. After I bought them in good faith. That really burns me.

On the back of Experimental Jet Set there’s a quote from Jack Brewer that says “Once the music leaves your head it’s already been compromised.” I wouldn’t take Thurston’s comments too seriously.

I am a new convert to the Sonic Youth bandwagon. Daydream Nation is a masterpiece. If there was one other album to buy (errr.. download) what would be some recommendations?

rub me on your burns…then ROCK!

Liberal Idahoan,

Goo and Dirty are good, but Murray Street and Rather Ripped are excellent. Personally, I think Rather Ripped is a close second to Daydream Nation as their best album.

Aloe suggest you buy the vinyl LP BAD MOON RISING and spook out your signifigant other.

Liberal Idahoan,

don’t forget washing machine and EVOl but first get sister !!

EVOL is pretty great. Sister is really really great. I did not care for Murray Street or Sonic Nurse, but to each their own.
