Talk Show Flasback: The Stooges Remember The Good Old Days

1/9/09, 4:25 pm EST

In late June 2007, Iggy Pop and Scott and Ron Asheton of the Stooges had a hilarious, candid, profanity-laced appearance on the British talk show Friday Night With Jonathan Ross. When Iggy spoke up about the band’s early days (”They were embarrassed for us”), Ron Asheton added, “We invented our own instruments, like blenders with water in them, vacuum cleaners.” There’s some classic Stooges storytelling here, like when Ron had to tie a belt around Iggy’s torso like a leash and lead the frontman around New York City because Pop was too high on STP to stop himself from wandering into traffic (that one got a chuckle out of fellow guest Russell Brand). It’s an excellent way to celebrate the life and career of Ron Asheton, who passed away earlier this week. Enjoy part two, where the band talks about their reunion (Were they worried about high expectations? Nope, because “We’ve never liked or respected other people,” explains Pop), after the jump:
