New Dr. Dre Song Possibly Destined For “Detox” Leaks

Just days after new Eminem song “Crack A Bottle” hit the Web, a song that’s reportedly off Dr. Dre’s long-awaited Detox has also leaked out. “It Could’ve Been You” or “Could Have Been You,” as the blogs are calling it, features R. Kelly and 50 Cent trading verses over a smooth, P-Funk-ified beat by the Doctor. Aftermath Records’ in-house Nate Dogg, Bishop Lamont, also features on the track. As you can tell by the multiple titles, no one is entirely sure where the song came from, but Dre is reportedly “furious” that the song leaked out, especially considering the song is still unmastered and unmixed.

Still, for such an anticipated album, the track is a bit of a letdown, especially when Kelly croons lyrics like “The reason why you didn’t get picked, ’cause you got your nose up your ass smelling your shit. But tonight you met your match, ’cause I be smelling my shit too. Now how you like that?” Probably the dumbest lyric since Lil Wayne rapped “You think that your shit don’t stink but you’re Mrs. P. U.” on Kanye West’s 808s cut “See You In My Nightmares.” Plus, we want to hear Dre bust out rapping already. He’s been off the mic for way too long. (His cameo was the highlight of “Crack A Bottle” for us.)

Still, many on the blogosphere even wonder if this track was meant for Detox at all, considering its unpolished nature. We’ll hopefully find out whether “Could Have Been You” makes the Detox final cut later this year, maybe, as Dre has stated the album will come out after 50 Cent’s Before I Self Destruct and Eminem’s Relapse.

fuck R. Kelly and 50 Cent…Dre needs actual talent.

too bad | 1/12/2009, 12:26 pm EST

i was really looking forward to this album, unfortunately the last thing I want to hear on a Dre album is R. Kelly or 50 Cent, much less both of them on the same track. 50 might be the worst rapper of all time.

HopingForDETOX! | 1/13/2009, 3:40 pm EST

Come on R kelly??? he’s not a rapper, the only thing he’ll be famous for is killin rap, and 50 he has nearly killed it already

CARRISI | 1/14/2009, 7:26 am EST

crack a bottle is a bit of a dissapointment, I feel everyone’s expectations are sky high – rightfully so. 50 cent’s after leak “I get it in” is actually alright. Rkellys chorus is pure genius on this track, it sticks out and gets people talking, sort of thing eminem would have said in his prime, humor is golden! Surprisingly rkelly makes this track good, I disagree with everything the author said abouth this track as this could have made 2001!!

‘Crack a bottle’ IS a disappointment.
‘It Could’ve Been You’ also a disappointment! Come on. I’m expecting DETOX to change hiphop. honestly! but this song, don’t get me wrong, its good… but not amazing! I hope to god that Dre has some bigger and better tracks lined up for DETOX!

shortballplayer | 1/20/2009, 9:33 pm EST

i think Dre needs to get his head out of his ass and actually make good music, i really hope Detox won’t be a dissapointment and eminem “crack a bottle” is shit! while 50’s “get in” is actully good

CISCO KID | 1/21/2009, 10:25 pm EST

Dre is an amazing producer. He has made some of the best music the Hip-Hop community has ever seen, he has brought some of the best talent to the forefront of the genre and he has also inspired countless artist to strive for excellence. His long awaited album may be late due to his relentless efforts at music perfection. I believe he has earned the right to take his time. History shows that no one is dissappointed when he drops an album. *** do your thing Dre….. you have loyal fans.

produza | 1/22/2009, 1:29 pm EST

The Track could have been you would neva have made it to detox! Its just one of about 500 records that dre’s made for detox. An okay song but not good enuff for detox. I personally think aftermath leaked it themselves!! Eminems new track iz just eminem!! its not detox its eminem so its okay for him but aboviously he got way better tracks in his vault to put on relapse. 50’s tracks banging!! Damn it makes a big difference when a track is mixed!!

CARRISI | 1/26/2009, 8:07 am EST

detox will be out this year, crack a bottle is a tune. this is also a good track. its just you lot are narrow minded, 50 is class, dre knows what he doing! everyone of you will actually like this track when its done.

There is always a good song or a dope bangin ass C.D comeing from a dope artist like Dre or Em or Fif I got pretty much all there C.D’s I study rap str8 down the nity grity from Too $hort to Pimp C to Jay Z but I know Detox is going to be the best C.D since Straight Outta Compton. Relapse and Before I Self Destuct are going to be good but Detox is going to be worth the wait. I am going to buy Detox first before I buy 50 and Eminem’s C.D. The next best C.D would be an N.W.A reunion with Lil Eazy not replaceing but carrying the torch of the legand Eazy E R.I.P. That would be the dope bangin ass number one C.D on my veiw

detox isn’t gonna change the rap world or hip hop world. most of these rappers don’t even know whats going on in the world that they’re living in, let alone their own country. the international bankers are destroying nation states, human rights, looting trillions of dollars of our own money and are gearing us up for a life of financial slavery.

the only thing these rappers can do is rap about “bitches and hoes” or how much crack they can “sling”, despite the fact that the CIA ships in 90% of the drugs that enter america. these rappers “entertainers” can’t even scratch the surface of the massive social problems we all face. this genre of music shouldn’t be called rap, it should be called crap

to anonymous | 8/28/2009, 2:00 am EST

hey anonymous with all the opinions on rap, its influence, and our worlds problems. WAKE UP!
firstly, this is a dre album were talking about, its obviously not a conscious rap album, its called GANGSTA RAP for a reason. Secondly, how else are people supposed to speak on world issuses if they dont belong to a government organization? The music industry influences EVERYONES life even if they dont think it does. Why do you think that people dress certain ways for an example. So a few people listening to a rap album about living in poverty could be inspired to try and make a difference. And your obviously not a fan of rap if you write a comment like yours, so keep it to yourself. Im going to be bangin the Chronic even when im 90 years old, and i hope that this genre of music keeps evolving. Peace to the real hiphopers
