Ever wonder how Billy Joel accumulated the stories behind his hit song “The Piano Man”? High School Musical star and Billy Joel biographer Zac Efron has the answer, with a little help from Adult Swim figurine show Robot Chicken. In the video, Efron voices the Piano Man as he “absorbs the stories” of the barflies around him, including Davy (who’s still in the Navy) and Pete the real estate novelist. “You are one with the Joel now,” Joel gloats after absorbing a story through a little first-degree murder. Perhaps the most surprising thing about the whole clip is that Efron is actually funny, as he steps far, far away from the Hairspray and Disney fare that we usually associate him with (thanks to the Vulture blog for bringing this to our attention). “Down on your knees, I’m the piano god,” Efron/Joel sings to the losers at the bar. “Pray to the songs that I sung.
