I’ll never forget the first time I heard The Stooges. I was home, stoned out of my trees listening to the radio and I wanna be your dog came on. Those first three chords came at me and then this incerdible feedback from hell just hung there for it seemed like a minute and then Iggy started singing. I was hooked after that. As far as I’m concerned,Ron Asheton invented Punk Rock. He “shred master”,but who cares! He had his own signature style and tone. The man started a whole new genre of music! That Tony Iommi did for metal,Asheton did for punk rock. I play guitar and when I get discouraged,I listen to Ron’s playing and it uplifts me every time. He’s one of my biggest influences. I think I’ll ALWAYS miss him.

Seeing the stooges and hearing their music was and is still the greatest. Nothing gets me in a good mood but their music. geri gillespie st. clair shores

Hopefully someone will remix ‘Raw Power’ and uncover Ron Asheton’s great bass work. (Unfortunately buried in both Bowie and Iggy mixes) At least it can be heard on ‘I Got a Right’.

RIP

This list is missing some of his best work ….with New Race. Track it down…

Also update that Ron played the bass… ridiculously great bass on Raw Power… His pissed off anger held that damn record together. It would not have worked or been as magical with anyone else.

No, Ron didn’t play guitar on RAW POWER, and he was unhappily relegated to playing bass…but he played kick-ass bass!

I saw Ron play over the years with Destroy All Monsters, Dark Carnival, and the J.Mascis faux-Stooges, and I finally saw the Stooges play in NY a few years back. They were great and Ron was great every time I saw him play!

Ron didn’t play guitar on the Raw Power album you idiots. To pay proper tribute, replace “Search and Destroy”, “Gimmie Danger” and “Raw Power” with “Down on the Street”, “Loose” and “Little Doll”
