We don’t usually write about Soulja Boy Tell’em around these parts, but his new animated show has given us no choice. Streaming now on Soulja Boy’s Website, Soulja Boy Tell’em: The Animated Series combines cartoon and live action as it tells the timeless tale of the rapper “in midst of enjoying his hip-hop superstardom when he’s suddenly forced to return to high school.” Trying to spoil his fun is actor Alfonso Ribiero, or Carlton Banks from The Fresh Prince of Bel Air, who plays the principal who is “always hot on Soulja Boy’s heels to keep him in line.” The cartoon is expected to launch later this month. The video streaming now on the site is just the prelude music video for the song “Soulja Boy Tell’em” off the album iSouljaBoyTellem. Dude loves his own stage name. Even if you’re not a fan of Soulja, the video is worth watching just to see Carlton Banks dance for the first time since the early ’90s.
Despite the cartoon and new album, 2009 has already been a pretty rough year for the Soulja. Just a day before the new year, masked thugs entered Soulja’s home and robbed the rapper at gunpoint. It would’ve been just your standard home invasion, except the felons allegedly posted a video on the Internet in the following days bragging about the crime. In the video, the supposed crooks take aim at Soulja, who claimed he was mobbed by six guys with AK-47s. “We just two goons, we don’t roll deep,” one of the masked men gloats. You can watch the video over at YouTube.
But back to that cartoon: the 18-year-old MC said, “I always wanted to do a cartoon since I was younger. I am excited because I think that the subject matter will give my fans what they would expect from me.”
