- Death Row Records will hit the auction block again on January 15th as unreleased recordings from Tupac, Snoop Dogg and many artists from Suge Knight’s famed hip-hop label search for a new owner. Knight insists the label is still his, despite being forced to give up the catalog after filing for bankruptcy in 2006, which may frighten away potential bidders.
- While she works on the follow-up to her debut Spirit, Leona Lewis will also pen an autobiography for publishers Hodder & Stoughton. The book will also include over 100 new photographs of Lewis and is due out in October, roughly around the time her second album will be released.
- Although Lupe Fiasco says he’s leaving the rap game after the release of his LupE.N.D., the “Superstar” rapper will reportedly continue to make music as the singer of a post-punk band called Japanese Cartoons. The band denies their singer, “Percival Fats,” is Lupe, but admit that Fiasco “funds” the band. Listen for yourself at the band’s MySpace page.
- The RIAA continues to scale back their attack against illegal downloaders after ending their deal with MediaSentry, who used to track down people who downloaded music illegally on P2P networks. The RIAA previously ended litigation against listeners accused of illegal downloading.
