Aerosmithcan’t wait” to start recording their new album, the band’s 15th LP and first containing original material since 2001’s Just Push Play. “Today is the first day Tom and I are getting back together. We just rehearsed for two hours and it feels so good,” Aerosmith drummer Joey Kramer and bassist Tom Hamilton write in a news update on the band’s official Website. “We can’t wait to get back into the studio and get back out on the road to do what we do best. We’ll check in from time to time and give you progress on how things are going.”

The band is planning to tour in 2009, with a performance at Venezuela’s Solid Fest on February 1st the only announced date so far. However, guitarist Brad Whitford said in October that the band has “been offered to go out and do a tour next year starting in March, I guess. Providing the sky doesn’t fall, that’s what we’ll be doing.” Whitford couldn’t elaborate whether the band would perform new songs on the road or not. Steven Tyler has since hinted that the tour will begin in April.

Aerosmith have kept their fans occupied while they awaited the follow-up to 2004’s cover album Honkin’ With Bobo. Guitar Hero: Aerosmith ended up selling more copies in its debut week than any other Aerosmith album. The band was constantly in the news as well, whether it was Steven Tyler checking into rehab or suing bloggers who pretended to be Steven Tyler, to Joe Perry and his outspoken support of Republican Presidential candidate John McCain.

Aerosmith is not the greatest American Rock and or Roll Band! The DOORS are and always will be the greatest american rock and or roll band ever

kliff | 1/9/2009, 12:25 pm EST

I agree with KillTheIndustry

harpo | 1/8/2009, 2:40 pm EST

Hey Schultzie,

Why don’t you tell your boy the “Boss” to do the same….shut up and drink his Kool-Aid.

You libs never ever ever ever like it when somebody puts it back to ya’!!!! Quit cryin’…you sound like Harry Reid!!!!

The Dude | 1/8/2009, 12:43 am EST

Honkin’ On Bobo showed that the Big A still has plenty of incredible playing still in ‘em. I defy you to listen to ‘Shame Shame Shame’ from Bobo, with Aerosmith joined by the late, great Johnnie Johnson tickling the ivories, the Band shows off a ferocious pace while retaining the veteran groove only decades can bestow.

Dont sleep on Aerosmith.

Brad Whitford won’t be having it!

Sure, they made a money grab over the years, but The 5 Great Originals can still bring it like nobody’s business.

SceneRed | 1/7/2009, 4:02 pm EST

Honkin’ On Bobo sucked. Aerosmith sold their souls to Jerry Bruckheimer and (in my mind) will never be able to redeem themselves. Go back to doin’ GAP commercials, Steven - at least till SIRIUS comes knockin’ with a “special guest DJ” contract. Fuck Bob Dylan too for that matter.

Just re-read “Walk This Way” The band’s autobiography. A great read. Also gave Rocks, Toys, Ruts, Rock & A Hard Place, Draw The Line & The FANTASTIC Bootleg another listen. These guys kicked so much ass (and it’s a freakin’ miracle they are not all dead) The songs are SO STRONG on these records, not sure why they got so little credit for their songwriting in the 70’s.

The 80’s and 90’s records were mostly good. Get A Grip, Pump are fantastic and Hangman’s Jury, Dude,Pink, Jaded, The Other Side,Girls Of Summer show that they have it in them to make great records.

If they stay away from drum loops, dopey message songs and nu-rock they can come back AGAIN to rule the world (and remind G&R what they are supposed to be doing)

Don’t worry about top-40 hits from any superband like Aerosmith, there are no radio stations who will play new rock music unless it’s young alternative or modern metal, and that applies to radio stations that stream for a living (check out ShoutCast Radio with a free Winamp.com download, then plug a bass amp into your CPU’s head phone jack and live a little with non-stop access to everything that’s new in rock).

Aerosmith features one of the greatest performance vocals for men alive today, and he still meets and exceeds his past performances because other than straining his voice at the top of his 4 octave range, Steven Tyler has stayed within a normal singing style that guarantees long careers for the supernaturally gifted like himself.

Too bad we have to watch the rock ants, who watch us a concert audience ants in such huge venues. We’d love to see Aerosmith in a small club like The Fillmore in San Francisco - just park there like Petty and the Pumpkins did for 20 shows if it’s money that’s holding up a real concert with a real audience that can mingle without chairs in front of the stage!

Keep em’ coming, Baby Boomers and Generation X who caught the last of their “high school appeal” days are keeping all of their great house bands going, and everyone wants to work until their government age retirement at 66 or 71.

WE’RE THE PJs AND WE SUPPORT AEROSMITH!!!

should be a great album; i’m hoping they realize they’re too old and that mtv is too irrelevant at this point for them to be releasing top 40 crap like some of the stuff off Just Push Play. I liked Nine Lives, Get a Grip, and everything before it, even if they became a bit too commercial for a while. hope they take the hint from the positive feedback on Honkin’ on Bobo that they go back to 70s-style blues-rock.

Danny F. | 1/7/2009, 9:53 am EST

It’s about time! I say forget about making top 40 hits and make a raw f-ing rock n roll record boys! It worked with Metallica and AC/DC.

Slapshot | 1/7/2009, 2:30 am EST

Sweary Stan.
Are you just an as or just not into the history of Rock and Roll?
Aerosmith might be old but they can come at you night after nighht and rock the house like no other band their age.
You need to shut up and get a life.

Killtheindustry | 1/7/2009, 2:19 am EST

Dear Aerosmith: Please keep all the saccharin hacks - Desmond Child - Diane Warren -Mark Hudson- That Frederkison dude - Jim Vallance and any other “hit writers” out of the sessions. Listen extensively to your first 4 records and for the first time since “Done With Mirrors” … please ..CUT THE CRAP and make a raw rock and roll record. If you can’t … just retire .. it’s okay…. really.

Jon G. | 1/7/2009, 1:38 am EST

America’s best rock ‘n roll band, period.

Brad | 1/6/2009, 10:34 pm EST

Astral: I don’t know what you have against Aerosmith, but incase you’ve been living under a rock for the past 40 years, the boys from Boston are NEVER mentioned in Rolling Stone. So this dinky little Rock Daily post is one of the few mentions we A’smith fans can rally around.

Jill | 1/6/2009, 10:29 pm EST

Hell yeah! Aerosmith is the best American hard rock band and I can’t wait to see what they do in the studio next!

Francoise | 1/6/2009, 10:27 pm EST

Sweary Stan | 1/6/2009, 5:11 pm EST
