We love it when Breaking Artists make good and wind up on our Best Albums of the Year list, like Fleet Foxes, Jamey Johnson, the Knux and Bon Iver did in 2008. Here’s a look back at their Breaking videos, plus two bonus clips — Deerhunter busking on a Brooklyn street and Sam Champion rocking out in their van. To review all our 2008 Breaking stories, performances, exclusive downloads, video premieres and more, spend your holiday weekend with the Breaking Blog.

The Bon Iver songs have started to catch on with me after all. There are some interesting things going on there if you’re patient.

Bon Iver is amazing. The song featured here is one of his slower more monotonous ones, and not the first single off his CD, but the rest of “For Emma, Forever Ago” is a true masterpiece.

That Bon Iver record is fantastic. Haunting, moody, minimalistic. If you put Grant Lee Phillips, Mark Lanegan and Robert Smith in a blender, this might be the result. Or maybe it would be Jesus Lizard. I dunno. Anyway, I’ll forgive his one use of Auto-tune… it was actually done for artistic effect, and not used as a CRUTCH to cover a lack of vocal ability.

It’s actually a vocorder not auto-tune on wolves

Bon Iver is the best live show going right now. i saw them at the begining of their tour (yes, it’s more than a one man show now) and at the end, and they somehow improved on an already unbelievable presence. if you like the album, hearing it live is literally 20 times better, which is saying a lot.
