Guns n’ Roses Guitarist Denies “Chinese Democracy” Tour Rumor He Allegedly Started

12/31/08, 9:00 am EST

Well, that was fast. Just days after telling a St. Louis newspaper that Guns n’ Roses were planning a two-year tour set to embark in March, guitarist Richard Fortus is now saying he was “misquoted” in the article. “OK, it seems that I am being misquoted once again,” Fortus told fans in a statement. “I never said that Gn’R would be playing St. Louis, nor did I say that we will be doing free shows or that we are starting a two-year tour in March! Selective hearing. Never said it.” Fortus’ denials come after the article printed quotes regarding Fortus and Rose joking about Gn’R’s return to St. Louis.

Let’s face facts: Fortus probably made some passing comments about an upcoming Chinese Democracy tour, but when word spread of Fortus’ interview Guns’ management probably told him to can the rumors. The “two-year tour” rumor did seem overly long, however, especially considering Axl Rose’s involvement. Still, sources previously told Rolling Stone that Gn’R plan to tour in some capacity in 2009.

Denying statements you just made has become somewhat of a tradition lately in the Gn’R camp: Just yesterday, Fernando Lepeis denied the band’s “Better” video was being held up legally by Metallica’s Lars Ulrich, despite Lepeis making that exact statement just hours earlier. And this has been your last Guns n’ Roses post of 2008 … we think.

fuck guns n roses and axl rose

gunner | 12/31/2008, 3:07 pm EST

Wow ‘fuck guns n roses and axl rose’. We need Axl now as theres very few rock stars left. At least when they do tour there will be an air of unpredictability about there shows unlike the current corporate lot.

Steven Adler | 12/31/2008, 3:51 pm EST

What a joke, they should tour with Def Karaoke Jam as their opening act. It would be hillarious to have Axl dueting on their song “Axl Rose” LMFAO

GNR Fan | 12/31/2008, 4:23 pm EST

Note: This is not Guns and Roses and should be referred to as The Axl Rose Experience in all future stories.

Can you feel it? | 12/31/2008, 4:27 pm EST

The veterans bring it and they bring it good. Axl has brought it. U2 is about to bring it.

hambone | 12/31/2008, 5:06 pm EST

I have tried to give Axl the benefit of the doubt. Being a GNR fan is too exhausting. It has been a good run but time to move on. I will not buy a ticket, buy a DVD, nor support anything involving GNR. Way to shun your fan base Axl….One of a kind…

CR1ZZ | 12/31/2008, 6:41 pm EST

GNR fan who wrote that this should not be called guns’n'roses it should be called the axel rose experiance, legend.
You are completely right. Same as led-zep without robert plant, has to have different name. Axel is great, but guns’n'roses were EPIC. Anyone who says otherwise is a douche. Axel rose dose’nt realize that he was THERE SINGER, they were not HIS BAND.

deano | 12/31/2008, 7:19 pm EST

I was at Best Buy today and listened to a copy of “Chinese Democracy” and just shook my head. What a pile of crap. It sounds like most of it was recorded during the Nu-Metal era, like Axl was trying to chase Godsmack and Korn dollars. Sad stuff.

Slash | 12/31/2008, 7:46 pm EST

i will be there

Slash | 12/31/2008, 7:46 pm EST

i will be there

Slash | 12/31/2008, 7:46 pm EST

i will be there

Anonymous | 12/31/2008, 8:05 pm EST

CR1ZZ, you’re an absolute ignorant dumb-ass.

I quote your line:

“Axel rose dose’nt realize that he was THERE SINGER, they were not HIS BAND.”

That’s just too funny, since Slash and co. have not made 1 single good song since they left GNR. Face it, they suck ass and they will as long as they don’t have a good leader. Axl is a great leader, which you can tell my listening to any GNR album…

The music | 12/31/2008, 8:21 pm EST

Stop listening to all the crap, I mean, come’on who really cares? How about you just listen to THE MUSIC! And if ya don’t like it then don’t listen to it! And shut the fuck up!

Anonymous | 1/1/2009, 12:16 am EST

Guns is a joke. THE NEW RECORD IS BORING! Axl, You are so over. Do the world a favor. Crawl back in to your mansion and make sweet love to that maid of yours, and never come back out.

Phil | 1/1/2009, 1:39 am EST

Contrary to others here I think this album is GREAT (after listening it for 1 month).
It doesn’t work on 1st listening, that’s fact.
Regarding calling Axl Rose project there is one problem here. There were to many other peoples influences on that album.
And lastly huge dirty energy is leaping from this album. Energy that is closer to original GNR than anything other members of GNR succeded to do.
This is closest possible to old GNR and probably much better than what would original line-up do 15 years after…

re3ed | 1/1/2009, 3:27 am EST

best cd ever

17 years and.... | 1/1/2009, 5:20 am EST

What a disappointment, Axl thought this thing could sell on that alone, without promotion and better yet without Slash. If given 17 years to make an album then it ought to blow your mind. This blows but in a bad way. This album wouldn’t even be good if it was released after Appetite. It is obvious who the talent of that band was and it wasn’t Axl. He has a whiny voice and he is the Douchebag of the year.

Leonardo | 1/1/2009, 11:58 am EST

Bad news…I was hoping to watch them performing this masterpiece live…

Anyways…Axl Rose & Bruce Springsteen will rule the world in 2009!

izzy stradlin | 1/1/2009, 1:45 pm EST

ill be there might do a couple of songs w/axl.then dissapear.

Steven Woods | 1/1/2009, 6:56 pm EST

axel? axl

Teddy c | 1/1/2009, 7:03 pm EST

I like the album and think it was worth the wait. Axl starts right where gunz left off. In a fued. He uses that so well in his lyrics u cant tell if its about slash or an x lover. I think it works well and the arraingmemts p/u where illusion left off, even without slash and friends. They were so great together, that their time 2gether was like a blink of an eye. 2 much 2 soon.

Rob | 1/1/2009, 10:56 pm EST

Oooohhhh Axl….let’s be all mysterious as to whether or not your going to tour for an album that took over 10 years to make. So stupid.
I just wish you would go back to make making music and touring like a real rock and roll band.

g n f r s | 1/1/2009, 11:48 pm EST

this album sucks dick /axl dont ever make any muzic agine with out old band ok

Rev Al Bum | 1/1/2009, 11:55 pm EST

Thank goodness we don’t get the same runaround or shenanigans from the Jonas Brothers like we get from Axel Pose. Is there really “GNR” management ?

skillet | 1/2/2009, 1:04 am EST

Axl is talented, and the new album is decent, but not great. The soul of GNR (Slash’s guitar) is gone, and all that’s left is a bit of Axl playing around with different genre’s over the years and throwing in a few soft songs. Some of the songs are great, but generally, the live band feeling that made GNR so awesome is gone.

Velvet Revolver had a few decent songs, but I don’t think Scott Weiland was the right singer for them. Slash has pretty much said that Scott tamed the music down a little to fit his vision and lyric writing style.

Simply put, Slash is a bad ass guitarist, but he needs the right vocalist over his guitar. Axl is a great lyricist (usually), but he needs a soulful musician and raw band to play behind him. The new band is good, but Chinese Democracy is not “raw” at all. It’s been pro-tooled and re-recorded to death.

Basically, without each other, Slash is limited by the style of his vocalist, and Axl is limited by the styles of his musicians. Skilled musicians are a lot easier to find than unique vocalists.

Basically, these guys need each other, but Axl is mostly unstable. It took him 17 years to release a cd, with no promotion, and he hasn’t had a *successful* U.S. tour in years. (I think riots and cancellations make for an “unsuccessful tour”.) Over the years, Slash has at least managed to work, produce albums, and tour regularly. Axl’s wasted almost 20 years.

Actions speak louder than words. 17 years is a long time to piss away.

Anyways, Scott Weiland + Slash wasn’t a great mix (it as ok, but not great), but Contraband had good music, so I don’t think Slash has lost talent. Chinese Democracy has some good songs, but it sounds like Axl is willing to indulge any musical whim, with varying results.

Overall, it’s pretty obvious that they need each other.

BIGROB | 1/2/2009, 2:27 am EST

Listen without Prejudice,
Chinese Democracy is a great album, you can hate Axl all you want but the man is a true Rock Star i love the new album, what’s better ? Lil Wayne and his lollipop ? Kanye West who doesn’t make real music ? Come on, Axl is a real musician and can sing his @ss off! His producing on this album was great it took a long but now we have it.

Kill Bill | 1/2/2009, 4:46 am EST

a gnr tour would be as exciting as a van halen tour.

vince | 1/2/2009, 4:58 am EST

Dear Axl,

I did buy CD and think it’s great.
Now it would be nice if you give your dedicated fans a world tour!

Don’t forget about The Netherlands!

Cheers,

Vin ce

Kgoods | 1/2/2009, 10:13 am EST

“Chinese Democracy” is a great album. Its not old G’N'R, but it is a great album if you take it for what it is: an Axl Rose solo album. I love all the people that bash it just because others have told them its bad. Most the people I have met bash it even though they have only listened to one song on the album.

Tyson | 1/2/2009, 12:02 pm EST

I would love to see GNR tour this year. I have seen the new line-up in its various configuarations 3 times since ‘02, and they are GREAT. ‘Chinese Democracy’ if really given the chance to be ingested, is a great, singular album that works as a natural progression of GNR’s earlier works.

babalooey | 1/2/2009, 2:44 pm EST

Chinese Democracy isn’t as bad as people say it is. If you saw the same G & R that I did when they supported “Appetite”, they were a sloppy, drunk, heroin addicted mess that got booed quite frequently. This version while musically slightly different, is a tighter group than they ever were before. Maybe if a few could have stayed sober enough to let their own track marks heal, then the MK1 version would still be together. How many other bands have done the exact same thing & still maintained a faithful following? Faith No More, Anthrax, Kiss, Queen,Sepultura,……

nik | 1/2/2009, 3:57 pm EST

i would go see them forsure, is it just me or does lars from matalica seem like sort of an ass? i hope they tour that would be awesome!!!

Mahea | 1/2/2009, 4:23 pm EST

i have to agree with SKILLET on this. Axl and Slash are both very good but they do need eachother. i’ve heard the music from the new GNR lineup, and i’ve heard the music of VELVET REVOLVER. they’re both awesome bands, and Axl and Slash are both still very talented. but they’re best when they’re together.

Undertaker | 1/2/2009, 5:51 pm EST

Axl’s band shouldn’t even be called Guns N’ Roses, the new album sucks and no one even knows who’s in the band these days and ofcourse Axl was blaming everything on Slash as usual in that forum post.Axl Rose is a great singer but he never takes the blame for anything and he lest his maid answer fan’s questions because he’s an idiot.

ass bestus | 1/2/2009, 6:06 pm EST

We had a real good Thanksgiving last year. Chinese Democracy wasn’t the only great album that came out that week. The Killers’ Day & Age and Scott Weiland’s Happy In Galoshes are also FANTASTIC!

Christy Canyon | 1/2/2009, 7:11 pm EST

MR.THOM | 1/2/2009, 9:19 pm EST

who cares? | 1/2/2009, 9:37 pm EST

no body cares about GnR anymore…they are faded, old and still paying crap that was original in the 80’s and 90’s…

fabots | 1/3/2009, 12:41 am EST

It might mean a little more if we hadn’t waited ten years for a hyped release from a band with a hi-jacked name. Axel really drug a legendary group down in the mud to prove nothing to anyone else but himself….

Leonardo | 1/3/2009, 8:48 am EST

who cares? the album already sold 1.5 million copies worldwide….

So 1.5 million people do care motherfucker…

thedetoxg | 1/3/2009, 9:25 am EST

man it pretty funny that people talk shit about guns n roses. they really dont know shit about their music. guns n roses to me sounds like the GnR would sound like and they pulled it off with a good album. and who the fuck in the right mine compare chinese democracy to the killers new album. stop huffing paint

perfect album !!!

Hank | 1/4/2009, 6:38 pm EST

Appetite for Destruction came out when I was 10 years old, and it was so good that I think it scarred me for life. When I saw Chinese Democracy at the store I had to buy it. I didn’t really want to, I haven’t listened to Guns and Roses for years, but some uncontrollable force made me do it. At first I thought it was creepy, but 2 weeks later it is still in my CD player. It’s actually pretty good. There will never be another Appetite, with or without Slash, or whoever. But that’s no reason to not enjoy a good album. They are getting harder and harder to come by these days. Also, the new Black Keys rocks.

cant believe it | 1/5/2009, 1:36 pm EST

Who is talking about G’n'R and the Jonass brothers in the same post? I have lost all respect for posting here.

maria | 1/5/2009, 5:01 pm EST

Chinese Democracy is so wonderful that i’m thinking to buy another copy to enjoy better this masterpiece also in my car!!! I can’t wait now for the video and I hope that there will be a great tour all over the world!

Steven Adler | 1/5/2009, 6:01 pm EST

So is Def Karaoke Jam going to open up for them on this “rumored” tour???

Vladimir srbija | 1/6/2009, 4:08 pm EST

Don’t you try to stop us now
‘Cause I just won’t let you !!! G N’ R 4ever !!!!!!!!!!!!!

NokShuss | 1/6/2009, 8:55 pm EST

Axel is a Rock GOD! Slash is a semi-talented Hard Rock guitar Hero. Buckethead & Bumblefoot are serious shit! Chinese Democracy is the greatest album ever put out by Axel Rose! Scott Weiland is a herioine addicted song writing genius, but Libertad was weak…and obviously watered down Slashes talent because it sounded like every damned thing Scott ever does. I LOVE Scott…I LOVE Axel! I LOVED Slash’s Snakepit! Axel may be a little crazy…but that’s exactly why he’s greater than the rest….Holy Guacamoli!

Robert | 1/8/2009, 4:13 am EST

This album is amazing. I can’t get tired of it. I bought it the day it hit the shelves and I haven’t stopped listening to it since – no exaggeration. It hasn’t left my CD player.

I hope there is some kinda tour. I want to see them again. Of course I want Slash, Duff, Izzy and Steve back but who doesn’t? But the guy down the list is right. Even with them back there will NEVER be another album like Appetite for Destruction. That was once in a lifetime. I was too young to see them in concert in those days, but I would pay large sums of money if they ever got back together.

But even without the originals, the band FN rocks. Saw them 2 years ago and it blew me away. Can’t wait to see em again.

Anon. | 1/10/2009, 8:18 am EST

The new ‘Guns and Roses’ should not be called Guns and roses, it should be called Axl Rose and a couple of other guys. They aren’t that bad but the aren’t that good either.

DRAGO - Vienna-A | 1/11/2009, 9:28 am EST

“Chinese” is the great album. I.R.S., This I love, Madagascar etc. are really great songs. of course, that is a new sound, new team but albums as Appetite, Lies and Illusion 1&2 are rock antologhy.
But songs as Rocket Queen, Pretty Tied Up, Estranged, Dead Horse, Double Talkin Jive are much much better than new. Axl you´re asshole but I´ll pay to see you.
I am fan of this GNR ERA 1987-1993.

GNR FAN FOR LIFE | 1/13/2009, 7:51 pm EST

Anonymous | 3/22/2009, 11:34 pm EST

The new Gun’s and Roses should change its name considering the only original member is Axl. Chinese Democrazy is not bad but not good either. Axl’s voice is not there anymore and vocals are overtracked and sound awful. Bass playing is no Duff McKagan either. Also no one can replace Slash’s style.

ex gnr fan( long time ago))) | 9/29/2009, 5:59 pm EST

Guns’ N rOSES new CD sucks and Axl is a fucking dumbshit!!!
