Watch Gravy Play Biggie in “Tupac’s Dead” Scene From “Notorious”

12/24/08, 10:55 am EST

Wondering how portly Brooklyn MC Jamal “Gravy” Woolard looks attempting to portray the most famous portly Brooklyn MC of all time, the Notorious B.I.G.? There’ve been a bunch of clips from the upcoming biopic Notorious floating around the Web, but here’s a particularly high-voltage one: it’s Biggie breaking the news of Tupac Shakur’s death to his own mom, Voletta Wallace. We’re a little meh so far, but what do you think? Is it like Eminem in 8 Mile, 50 Cent in Get Rich or Die Tryin’ or Method Man in How High?

When Rolling Stone spoke to Woolard about the film — which was named Hot Biopic on our annual Hot List — he detailed the intense boot-camp-like training he received for the film at Julliard, where he dove into method-acting techniques and had cotton balls stuffed in his mouth to learn better diction. In Notorious, director George Tillman Jr. gives viewers a crash course on Christopher Wallace. The movie begins with the Brooklyn MC’s youth and quickly leads to his eventual life as Kwest, the hustler who also raps, who then becomes full-time MC, the Notorious B.I.G. Newcomer Woolard stars alongside Angela Bassett (What’s Love Got To Do With It), Derek Luke (Antwone Fisher) and Anthony Mackie (She Hate Me).

For more on the rapper’s still-unsolved murder (he was gunned down in a drive-by shooting in L.A. on March 9, 1997), check out these investigative reports:

Tupac always spoke as if he was in a confessional. Every detail, every emotion, & every story laid bare.

Biggie always spoke as if he was pleading the fifth. No detail, fake emotion, & nothing but regret.

So it follows that in “Notorious”, Biggie is portrayed as an innocent Forrest Gump. Poor misguided radical Tupac wants to destroy him.

For those interested in details, not sugar-coated fluff…

Listen to Tupac’s “Against All Odds” & “Holla at me”. They precisely explain Biggie’s personal character…and likely provide a clear explanation for both his & Tupac’s death.

from all these clips i been seeing, i could tell im not gonna like this movie at all, they portray biggie like hes an angel and pac is a demon, i woulnt be surprised if diddy played a role in directing this garbage.

its suppose to be a bio of biggies life, still they dont get the facts straight, all i say is dont watch it and think that its all true because tupac till this day is loved by fans worldwide, some saw him as a prophet, biggie was only a rapper.ima give the movie no stars

For those of you that were wondering Diddy and Voletta Wallace(Biggie’s naive mom)played a big part in the writing & producing process of this movie. Theyre going to paint a picture of PAC, who is far superior in every way and they know it, as an unintelligent thug. PAC was far more intelligent than biggy, was a better mc, and a better person as a whole.I refuse to see this movie.

Im def gonna go check this movie out, I’m interested to see if they put the first Pac shooting in this film. Regardless what anyone tells me, i will always strongly believe that Puffy knew what was going to take place that night. But of course they are going to make him look like a saint and tupac a fool,

Both of these young men were rappers…it was thier job to entertain the public. They both lead personal street lives. They both died due to gun violence.
No one but God has a heaven or hell to put them in.
This movie is for entertainment purposes only…it should not be your bible. If you like this type of entertainment see the movie…if you don’t…don’t see it.Simple.Don’t take it personal.

Buck Eye, you don’t know what the hell you are talking about. Throughout the whole east/west bull Big never said a bad word about Pac. This was not a matter of who was more intelligent, they were both well read, they just had different styles and unfortunately the are both gone.

The movie portrayed Tupac as ignorant, paranoid and lacking common sense, all in which is untrue. He was not just a rapper, he was an artist, actor, visionary, producer and song writer. He was educated and articulate. Biggie was a drop out, street hustler who beat women and disrespected relationships who left who knows how many baby mamas behind. The movie mentions 2. Tupac left 1 child and was never accused of beating a woman although fake charges were put on him for sexual misconduct. What a joke. Its like lobster vs canned tuna.

its amazin the amount of morons in this world, ‘tupacs still alive’, tupacs better than biggie’, ‘tupac more intelligent than biggie’, i began listenin to rap as neutral, so i had no bias towards towards either, but for raw skills (flow, lyrically) biggie rapes tupac all day long. that is CLEAR to anyone who dont just say tupac was better cos they wanna suck him off.

Tim | 1/26/2009, 6:53 pm EST

I LIKE 2Pac better than Biggie, I don’t necessarily think he was a better lyricist — he wasn’t.

miguel | 1/27/2009, 2:20 pm EST

THIS IS SOME B.SSSSS!!! i say FUCKKK P.diddy for trying to cover up his fake ass and depicting Pac the way he has… i was interested in watching this movie but i think this gonna start up the east coast west coast fued! peoples gonna be pissed with the way they have depicted him and this is an insult to his… i hope there is a retaliation and i hope that Afeni, Suge, the outlawz and Frank the body guard tell it how it WAS!!!! biggie and p.diddy wanted what Tupac was… that why they tried to get him to sign with them!!! biggie stole tupac lyrics now how does that make him a better lyricalist!!! FUCK P.DIDDY AND BAD BOY…. tupacs legacy lives on and no one will support this sad piece of a bio… wait for the PAC movie to come out!!!!!! p.s they better not cast that mother fucker as TUPAC!!!!
