Oasis’ Noel Gallagher Has One Christmas Wish

When Rock Daily was chatting with Noel Gallagher recently regarding Oasis‘ new tour, the guitarist shared his holiday wishes:

“I’d like an iPhone, a laptop, a new haircut and a Christmas card that didn’t say fucking Noel on the front. That would be fucking nice. Just one year. I always get this shit, right. And people go, ‘Did you get my card?’ And you go, ‘I dunno, which one was that?’ ‘Oh, you must’ve seen it. It had Noel written on the front.’ ‘Really, and how many of those do you think I get?’ That’s right. All of them. They all end up at my fuckin’ house. ‘Oh, there’s a card with my name on it, brilliant. That’s from my parents. I’ll thank them again for that.’ Fuckin’ pair of idiots.”

What, you were expecting holiday fuzzies from the guy who told us, “I am fucking brilliant every night I go out there. I could give a fuck about anybody else in the band.” One of those other dudes in his band, brother Liam, explained the band’s “love us or hate us” ethos in a recent chat with RS:

“Why would you want everyone to like you? That was the beauty of things growing up; not everyone was into the same music as you and that’s what stood you apart from everyone. You go into school and you go, ‘I’m different from you, man.’ ‘Why?’ ‘ ‘Cause I like the fucking Stone Roses. Who do you fucking like? You like Madonna.’ If everyone’s all into the same thing that’s when you lose your identity.”

Oh Yeah,

ROCK MUSIC IS DEAD IN AMERICA!

DRW | 1/8/2009, 10:28 pm EST

So umm, I clicked on the link because I like.. umm LOVE Oasis. IMO they are one of the best rock bands of all time, and thats why I pay attention to them. Because I like.. umm LOVE the music. You loosers get so hung up on personalities when it comes to music, that’s NOT what music is about! Now, about those self absorbed assholes, oh sorry I meant Yanks!

acg | 1/4/2009, 8:25 pm EST

I love that white fly,no one wants to hear it anymore, yet you still clicked the link to read the article. Noel likes to get to push buttons. It is very sad to me that person can no longer have a wise ass answer to a question without offending people. personaly, I think it is refreshing to not be fed a line of crap by someone in an interview. Makes for intresting reading.

I love Oasis!

Elron Hubbard | 1/2/2009, 4:38 pm EST

Funny or not, Oasis still sucks. You people think they are any better than brit spears, and your wrong!

GagBros | 12/31/2008, 5:04 pm EST

will someday be able to carry the jockstraps of the Beatles, Rolling Stones, U2, et al.

EPIPHANY | 12/31/2008, 12:46 pm EST

OH NOW I GET IT!!!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

BRIT ISH HUMOR!!!!

So, British funny people are self-absorbed assholes. I UNDERSTAND NOW!!!

Regal | 12/31/2008, 3:36 am EST

It shocks me every time I see commenting on here about an Oasis related article…seriously though, are the 75% of you who think Noel is being a prick with quotes like these actually retarded? Have you ever seen a video interview with him, or read a full interview with him? He’s probably one of the most levelheaded, normal guys in music. He’s just a music fanatic, and he’s funny.

oorstevie | 12/29/2008, 9:18 pm EST

lets face it, the guy is a class ‘a’ wanker of the first, second, and even third order! he knows it, and we know it, and this is what struggles to live up to, i.e., being a wanker.

Ashley | 12/29/2008, 3:46 pm EST

Noel is hilarious and Oasis is way underrated in the US. It doesn’t bother me, I don’t want to necessarily agree with my fellow Americans when the Jonas Brothers, Taylor Swift, Miley, Jay-Z, etc. are considered to be good music. We need more bands like Oasis

Kevin | 12/29/2008, 2:03 pm EST

I laughed out loud. Their humor, I think, has been more consistent than their albums.

The Noid | 12/29/2008, 11:55 am EST

I am taking nothing of what he says literally and he’s just not funny, in the broadest sense and in the most liberal definition of the word. He just comes across as a boorish ass. Benny Hill is a comic genius. Liam and Noel Gallagher are just not very smart or funny.

versedandvested | 12/29/2008, 8:33 am EST

it never ceases to amaze how thick many of my fellow Americans are when it comes to Oasis (namely Noel) and Brit humor in general. Noel G is a musical and comedic genius and only a plank would take more than 20% of what he says literally.

Dig Out Your Soul was one of the finest LP’s of the year, BTW.

f-off white fly

Richard Graeme | 12/28/2008, 8:55 pm EST

Noel, you rock. Unfortunately most don’t get your humour, but that doesn’t change anything. You are hilarious!

tbonespop | 12/28/2008, 7:42 pm EST

Yes, once again the overly-sensitive American kids can’t get over an amazing rock star telling it like it is (with a wink). Noel is pulling your chain, just look at the shocked reaction it generates from you idiots. At the end of the day it’s about the music. It works for me, and it doesn’t work for you because you can’t get past the abrasive comments to see the brilliance of the music this band has created. Of course, if they fed the corporate trough of Clear Channel and Rolling Stone and People magazine then you’d label them “sellouts”. When you idiots grow up and learn to appreciate the music on it’s own then maybe there will be a chance for music that’s not crap wrapped in shiny paper (Kanye, Beyonce, Madonna, Britney, and all the other one-name-wonders). In the meantime, go pick up a guitar, learn to play it, and write songs that even approach the magic that Oasis creates. You’ll find it just ain’t as easy as bitching about a band you don’t get. Long Live Oasis!

oasishead | 12/28/2008, 7:19 pm EST

oasis + radiohead = oasishead

Jon G. | 12/28/2008, 12:51 pm EST

Everytime I consider re-thinking Oasis, this a-hole opens his mouth…

mayerfan | 12/27/2008, 8:32 pm EST

a new haircut should be on the top of that list

Just when I think | 12/27/2008, 4:05 pm EST

I hate Liam more, Noel opens his mouth. Yes, your parents are a pair of idiots. Well, more specifically, your mother was an idiot for not closing her legs.

Wade | 12/27/2008, 1:20 pm EST

I don’t know when RS started caring about noel and the boys of oasis, but I’m starting the like it.

Umm..... | 12/27/2008, 12:03 pm EST

Ok Paul, so Noel likes Madonna and hates the Stone Roses?

So he also loves his bandmates and doesn’t think he’s brilliant?

Here’s a better definiton for irony: Noel is just being a jerk and succeeding. either way, I like their music. I’ll just ignore their interviews. ‘Cause neither Gagbro is either that smart or funny.

Paul Eden | 12/27/2008, 4:55 am EST

oasis I LOVE Them.

Before anybody gets on their high horses.

This interview is FUNNY and filled with IRONY, that’s right what seperates us Brits from you Americans.

You just don’t get it, like you just don’t get oasis.

Irony-(Definition)

# The use of words to express something different from and often opposite to their literal meaning.
# An expression or utterance marked by a deliberate contrast between apparent and intended meaning.

Get real | 12/27/2008, 12:24 am EST

I don’t get saying a band sucks b/c their sound resembles the beatles!? Wow…you know…I think the world would be a better place if we had more bands immitating Fall Out
Boy. Critics and fans alike dissect Oasis songs trying to ’spot the influence’ and then tear them down for it. No modern bands are subjected to the same intense scrutiny as Oasis. H#ll…at least they’re honest about their influences and shortcomings.

Truth | 12/26/2008, 6:40 pm EST

He does care. Running around and saying you dont care while praising yourself is a typical whine of “look at me im so cool”. If you have to tell everyone how bad ass you are you aren’t.

bwrubac | 12/26/2008, 5:11 pm EST

I just love this guy - I don’t really care if he doesn’t really care - jeez, I don’t fkn care either - but a guy’s gotta have a healthy ego, doesn’t he - no ego, no creativity - and an iPhone would be nice, also!
Cheers, Noel!

ADEDIRAN DARE TIMOTRHY | 12/26/2008, 9:07 am EST

I LOUVE OASIS. 50 CENT LOVE YOU

john | 12/26/2008, 6:54 am EST

I never understood why Noel and Liam seem to anger Americans so much. They’re hilarious. Oasis is a great band. Innovative? Hell no. But Noel has written some excellent songs. It’s rock music, people. Oasis will never get back to their glory days until Noel writes ALL songs. Liam should be limited to one song if he must have a song on the album.

Anonymous | 12/25/2008, 8:26 pm EST

This guy’s ego is intense, but Oasis’s music is still mediocre.

lasgames | 12/25/2008, 7:23 pm EST

Oasis is just a good rock band thats been around since grunge. Does anyone remember that? I don’t think so.

sal69 | 12/25/2008, 7:03 pm EST

there just a rock band from england without all the bling and droll hip hop, pop bullshit the states are into right now. rock music is dead in america,it took a f’in video game to save rock n roll guitar there, god help the next generation, where are the next kurts and bruces gonna come from???

Mandela | 12/25/2008, 12:37 pm EST

Comparing them to the Beatles (regardless of era) is just pointless. No band was more important or better. The Beatles had most of the best songs and best albums ever. Compare Oasis to the band they actually compare to:the Kinks. Otherwise their TWO classic albums stand alongside no one else worth making a point of comparing them to.

monk | 12/25/2008, 8:24 am EST

noel may seem arrogant, but i rather read interviews with him than listen to kayne west bitch to everyone how he is the greatest when in reality he’s just regular everyday normal guy

Kyosti | 12/25/2008, 12:01 am EST

F*&k, Oasis is a damn F*&king over rated band. He thinks he’s hot sh$t but he’s nothing. Good, go on Noel, no matter how rich or F(*kin famous you are, I will only pity you, never envy, for not understanding the world better. Waste of life.

Sourpuss.

KBilly | 12/24/2008, 4:30 pm EST

Tommelot you are an idiot. If you don’t pay attention to the eras?!?! Are we also not supposed to pay attention to the fact that Oasis wouldn’t even exist if it wasn’t for the Beatles. That they emulate and imitate THE BEATLES SOUND.

KBilly | 12/24/2008, 4:29 pm EST

Tommelot you are an idiot. If you don’t compare the eras?!?! Oasis wouldn’t even exist if it wasn’t for the Beatles.

mynameisearl | 12/24/2008, 1:51 pm EST

across the pond,
oasis seems to be the biggest thing since fish and chips.
blimey.
over here in america, we don’t fall for that uppity, holier than thou crap.
we’d rather debate why chinese democracy didn’t sell as much as black ice ?

Me | 12/24/2008, 1:08 pm EST

and PS, I do think they’re good, but I wouldn’t put their career beside U2 or the stones.

Me | 12/24/2008, 1:07 pm EST

I think oasis are beyond over rated. Always did. They can write singles, but not albums. Noel’s one of those guys, god love em, who can’t put down the power chord long enough to rightfully present most of his songs. I hear way too much late 90’s electric in their music, and it’s to the point where it makes their albums(not singles mind u, albums) undynamic and not engaging after a few songs. The longer that band is together, their egos get bigger as their musical scope gets smaller.

Joe | 12/24/2008, 11:40 am EST

Tommelot, delusion is a wonderful thing. Oasis is certainly within the top 30 British bands ever, sure. Oasis has done a wonderful job throwing in elements of the Beatles and U2 and creating a good hard rock sound. They are a good band. But not nearly as innovative or creative as the Beatles. And BTW, Noel will make a great drunk standup comedian one day.

Tommelot | 12/24/2008, 11:11 am EST

Oasis remains the best band ever in my book. If you compare them to the Beatles and ignore the era the songs were made, Oasis kicks their ass up and down the hall of fame. They know it

white fly | 12/24/2008, 10:57 am EST

noel, you’re an idiot. please say the f-word one more time, please. I just havent heard you complain enough and say it. why do you complain about everything? seriously? Just shut your mouth. Noone wants to hear it any more.
