Justin Timberlake, T.I. Team Up For “If I”

12/17/08, 3:05 pm EST

“My Love” super duo Justin Timberlake and T.I. have joined forces again, for the Y’s-produced joint “If I.” The pair don’t attempt to duplicate the massively successful sound of “My Love,” but opt to steal a page from the Prince playbook for a mellower, funkier but still radio-friendly affair. No one’s really sure where this song came from, it just sort of landed on the Internet (like all great things). If it’s for a future JT release, it’s the singer’s first new material since his FutureSex/LoveSounds.

In what may be an elaborate ruse to shift the spotlight off the recording of his next album, Timberlake said in October that he was going to concentrate on contributing to other artists’ careers rather than his own. T.I. released his Paper Trail relatively recently, so the song might also be destined for an inevitable “Deluxe” reissue or maybe it’s a “Something to remember me by” gift from Tip before he disappears for his looming jail sentence.

Oh My God If Rolling Stone compares JT to Prince or Michael Jackson one more time I’ll seek revenge for them

POB | 12/18/2008, 11:20 am EST

Thats dope but that doesn’t sound like T.I.

ehh | 12/18/2008, 12:47 pm EST

Sounds just like “Sexy Ladies” off of Justin’s FS/LS. Fail.

...... | 12/18/2008, 1:29 pm EST

“Dead and Gone” off of T.I.’s Paper Trail is a MUCH better result of what happens when T.I. and Justin Timberlake team up in the studio.

Rolling stone where the hell do you guys get your information from?? This song was NOT produced by Timbaland. It was produced by Rob Knox and Justin. If you read Rob’s article he says that they did 2 songs w/ T.I and one will be on the re-release album. This has to be it.

susan | 12/18/2008, 8:53 pm EST

Eve | 12/20/2008, 10:58 pm EST

I don’t like this song very much but hey that’s just me.
Just wanted to make a few comments to some of the other comments: first, no one is comparing Justin to Prince…it says THEY stole a page FROM Prince (FYI this is not comparing) and second Rolling Stone didn’t post the video, is says that it just popped up on YouTube…which means the person who posted it named Timbaland as the producer NOT Rolling Stone…doesn’t anyone ever read before speaking their minds?
BTW Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah and Happy New Year to all!!
