Confirming “the worst kept secret in rock n’ roll,” Metallica officially revealed that there will be an all-Metallica Guitar Hero game “released in the first half (!?) of 2009″ on their Website this weekend. According to the band, gamers will have the option of playing as Metallica themselves, with a “career mode” that echoes Metallica’s own rise to heavy metal stardom. The game will house roughly 28 Metallica songs, plus songs from “buddies” like the Foo Fighters, Alice in Chains, Slayer and Queen.

The game will also contain new Guitar Hero features like an “Expert+” mode that requires faux-drummers to emulate Lars Ulrich and master two bass kick drum pedals. While the band didn’t let slip the track list, the gaming community has confirmed that “Enter Sandman,” “Fuel,” “Master of Puppets,” “Nothing Else Matters,” “Sad But True” and “For Whom the Bell Tolls” will all make the final cut. The All-Metallica game continues a bond between the band and Guitar Hero that started when Metallica made their Death Magnetic playable for GH3. The Metallica game is also the second GH game to chronicle one band’s discography, following the Guitar Hero: Aerosmith game from earlier this year.

would be cool if they recorded a new song or two for the game,

Sounds like it’s going to be better than the Aerosmith edition, and that was a good game.

I bet it sells quite a bit more too. Metallica’s held their popularity a bit better than Aerosmith, although you can’t dispute the relevance of either band.

This game will rulee. It may be a bit harder to complete on expert but i like a challenge :)

This is good news indeed. But i (and a bunch of people) already knew about this.

I hope they decide to increase that ”roughly 28 songs” to at least 40. The big fail in Guitar Hero Aerosmith was the short amount of songs from the band (and the fact that Dude looks like a lady and I dont wanna miss a thing weren’t included).

This will probably the toughest Guitar Hero yet which is good because expert is to easy.

I wish it was Guitar Hero Guns N Roses or Van Halen though instead.

So far it looks like they are using a lot from the black album onward with the exception of hit the lights, master of puppets and for whom the bell tolls.

I just hope they put on more from Kill ‘Em All-…And Justice for All. Songs like battery, blackened, the four horsemen, FADE TO BLACK!!! If they put those in there, i will be the happiest person ever!

28 songs?!

That’s next to nothing. Nine albums not including Garage Inc., and all they can scrape up is 28 songs? It won’t be worth the 60 bucks they’ll charge for it.

I’ll stick with Rock Band 2.

Prismprison | 12/16/2008, 3:09 pm EST

It’s an interesting premise and while I’m sure the music featured will span their entire career, I just hope they concentrate on their earlier works which maintain as timeless masterpieces in addition to Death Magnetic.
I would absolutely love to see a
Guitar Hero: Pantera hit the market.

Considering there’s an ad for it on World Tour, um yeah, did we need “confirmation?” If it lacks “Fade to Black”- forget it.

Please throw the bass players a bone and include (Anesthesia) Pulling Teeth!

I get why the last three are there, but Foo Fighters? Really? For the (Re)Load era, I guess.

I am really pissed of about them puting “Hit The Lights”!!

adam | 12/19/2008, 9:45 pm EST

i will still buy it any way big fan since 84″ keep rockin brothers

Someone's Friend | 12/19/2008, 10:48 pm EST

Why can’t they make an AC/DC Guitar Hero- there SHOULD be one!

Highway To Hell, Whole Lotta Rosie, Thunderstruck, ALL legendary hits!
