The Dave Matthews Band have announced the first dates of their 2009 tour and revealed that their still-untitled new album will be released April 14th. The album, DMB’s first since 2005’s Stand Up, was produced by Rob Cavallo, who’s known for his work on Green Day’s American Idiot and other harder rock artists. The day the album hits stores, DMB will take the stage at New York’s Madison Square Garden. Opening acts for the tour include the Roots, Jason Mraz, Old Crow Medicine Show and the Avett Brothers. The new album is the Dave Matthews Band’s first since the death of founding saxophonist LeRoi Moore earlier this year. Saxophonist Jeff Coffin, trumpeter Rashawn Ross and guitarist Tim Reynolds will all join the band both on the road and on the new album. The full list of tour dates is after the jump.

i just saw bela fleck & the flecktones on friday night…i hope that dave doesn’t poach jeff coffin, intentionally or unintentionally. both bands have great chemistry and bring something to music, and it would be a shame for the flecktones, the little guy in this, to lose out.

DB | 12/16/2008, 3:41 pm EST

jrhigh39 | 12/17/2008, 5:32 pm EST

Coffin will stay with the flecktones, but also join dmb. That was part of the negotiations, making sure he could still do flecktones stuff.

overated band, the opening acts are better, if your going to one of these overcrowded shows be sure to listen to old crow and the avetts, great music, and it might actually make putting up with infinite amounts of drunk preps and their girlfriends worth it.
