- In what has to be the one true barometer in deciding what was big in 2008, the Google Zeitgeist revealed that the year’s most-searched song lyrics were for Chris Brown’s “With You,” followed by “Lil Wayne & ‘My Life.’” The Jonas Brothers were the year’s most-searched concert tickets and American Idol was tops in both TV Shows and Reality Shows.
- Marilyn Manson’s ex and Across the Universe actress Evan Rachel Wood has signed on to play the role of Mary Jane in the upcoming, U2-composed Spider-Man: The Musical. Rehearsals begin in June 2009. Producers are reportedly trying to recruit Wood’s Across costar Jim Sturgess to play Peter Parker.
- Wu-Tang Clan mastermind RZA has been cast in Funny People, the upcoming Adam Sandler-led comedy directed by Knocked Up’s Judd Apatow. RZA has also recruited Wu’s Ghostface, Killah Priest and Inspectah Deck for the second Afro Samurai soundtrack.
- After the Smoking Gun outted his embellished criminal record, Akon has responded to their claims, saying “I guess when I was being interviewed, and I would say, ‘Yeah I did about three years,’ I wasn’t saying I did a three year stretch, I was calculating the time from when I started to get in trouble to the time when I said, ‘Enough is enough.’ “
