Bon Jovi and the band’s Lost Highway jaunt was named 2008’s top-grossing tour, scoring $210.6 million and drawing over 2.1 million fans during a trek that covered both the U.S. and Europe. According to the Billboard Boxscore, Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band claimed second place as the Magic tour grossed $204 million. Madonna’s ongoing and record-breaking Sticky & Sweet Tour held the third spot thanks to $162 million, the second leg of the Police reunion tour grossed $150 million for fourth and Celine Dion rounded out the top five with $91 million.

The year’s top-grossing engagement was the Spice Girls’ 17-night sold-out run at London’s O2 Arena, which earned $33.8 million, while Celine Dion performed at the year’s top-grossing concert, as her return to Quebec and Montreal’s Bell Centre made $33.8 million, nearly twice as much as Bonnaroo grossed ($17 million.) Despite the worldwide recession, the touring industry had their best year on record with grosses just under $4 billion, up 13 percent from last year.

Bon Jovi still going strong after 28 years! I wanna see a live concert on TV (b/c i’m too poor to get tix to go see them! TVs next best thing!!) If they can put Miley Cyrus - a rockstar joke compared to Bon Jovi, then they can put BJ on TV!

good luck to J.B..J but are these figures a bit silly? How many tickets were sold-how much max.and min. where they ? Did artists perform at equivelant capacity venues? lets remember artists like Springsteen do year after year.

Probably the most underrated band in music history

Numbers don’t lie.

Mick Jagger once said…”Bon Jovi should thank his lucky stars Steve Perry(Journey)got tired of music. If Perry stayed with Journey and my friend Neal Schon, the whole Bon Jovi success would never have happened. They jumped in that niche Journey created and never let it go.” You’re luck Jon.

bon jovi had the top grossing tour because every show is a chance for their middle aged fanbase to forget about their mortgages and their kids and pretend it’s 1987 again. and i mean that in the meanest way possible.

I’ve definitely been to more shows this year than ever. Warped Tour at 3 dates, The Academy Is…, Cobra Starship, Bruce Springsteen, Panic at the Disco, Kings of Leon, Ludo, Paramore, Linkin Park, American Idol lol…im all outta money!

Bon Jovi are one of the best live acts ever. Well-deserved. I wonder if it is strange to finish one spot ahead of one of JBJ’s idols? Next stop: Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2009.

So Jovi on this tour and the show was great, they earned this honor

Concert Addict | 12/12/2008, 8:46 am EST

I know spent more money last year on Concerts then I ever have in my life.

Off the top of my head: Radiohead, Ben Folds, 311, Linkin Park, NIN, Ben Folds Five, NIN again, Coheed and Cambria 4 times.

Its funny how the top earners Bon Jovi, Spice Girls, Madonna, and Celine Deon are people you couldn’t pay me to go see.

duh | 12/11/2008, 9:44 pm EST

so how many shows did you see in 2009?

Jungleland2 | 12/11/2008, 9:01 pm EST

Can’t think of a year where I’ve spent less on music but more on concerts than 2009

hmmm | 12/11/2008, 7:01 pm EST

revenue is up despite steady or declining attendance…someone is getting ripped off.

Steve | 12/11/2008, 6:00 pm EST

From what I hear, Bon Jovi’s fanclub is in open mutiny because JBJ’s brother runs it and he’s gouging people.

A victory well deserved. Congrats to Bon Jovi :)
