Busta Rhymes‘ new song “Arab Money” continues to be a lightning rod for controversy, with one UK DJ being suspended after playing the Quran-sampling track on the radio. Steve “Smooth” Sutherland was suspended from his popular show after the song’s broadcast resulted complaints from listeners. In the song’s chorus, the first chapter of the Quran is sung and sampled, which is against strict Arab law dictating that singing a Quran verse in combination with music is prohibited. “I really only respect the Arab culture,” Rhymes said in a recent interview. “I ain’t really trying to pay no attention to, ya know, these little people in political positions and executive positions that ain’t Arab culture oriented people because a lot of the times, what are you really showing all of this concern for?” Busta will entangle Diddy, Lil Wayne, Akon and T-Pain in the controversy as well when the “Arab Money” remix drops soon.

Who cares if it’s against strict Arab law? The UK is not the Middle East, so why is it even an issue? Ridiculous.

H. Bomb | 12/4/2008, 2:07 pm EST

@The Graveyard:

Does being in the UK mean that values of Islam shouldn’t be respected?

Remember, it wasn’t too long ago that people in the southeast were flipping a shit whenever Marilyn Manson staged mock crucifictions of himself during his shows.

Still, though, it’s the ORIGINAL version of Busta’s song (not the remix mentioned here) that’s probably the most ridiculous… it’s chorus is just sung in mock Arabic (i.e. not real!). I’m sure you’d NEVER be able to get away with playing a song with mock-African (i.e. click-talking) on the airwaves.

Busta shoulda known better. If he truly respected Arab culture, he woulda taken the time to get a REAL Arabic singer to write and sing the 2-line chorus.

I just love | 12/4/2008, 3:45 pm EST

how stupid Graveyard proves they are again and again on multiple blogs. Let’s stage a mock crucifixition in a concert in Tel Aviv.

laosuwan | 12/4/2008, 8:31 pm EST

Actually, the UK is a vassel state of the arab world. Which is why the dj is suspended and you cannot “insult” islam but they can enslave you. the eu wants it that way. in case you have not noticed

Anonymous Dude | 12/4/2008, 9:33 pm EST

Busta’s desperate attempt to be relevant is backfiring on him? oh boohoo…. dumb arse.

Paul | 12/4/2008, 10:32 pm EST

I could have sworn Busta was muslim.

This yet proves again why it’s crazy for people in the enlightened 21st century to take religion so seriously. Whether it be Christians giving Manson concerts bomb threats, or Islamic people going apeshit and trying to murder cartoonists for drawing their religious figures. If there is an invisible ruler in the sky (and there isn’t) let him or her deal with it if they’re so high and mighty. This is the same mystic being who destroyed the world because of people having too much sex with a huge flood once, right? Did it retire?

And if god is going to get its magical panties in a bunch over someone singing religious verses over music, does it really deserve to be worshipped? Get off the rag, god.

mohammed | 12/5/2008, 6:21 am EST

Mr graveyard. For your knowledge sir this song is not insulting to arabs it is insulting to muslims. Furthermore with a third of the world consisting of muslims (that’s only official,I believe its more than that)evrey body needs to care about these issues. The uk doesn’t even come close to the might of islamic world. The point is it does affect uk I mean look at 9/11 7/7 and the recent attaks in india which were directed at westerners. But then again it might be publicity 4 busta or more importantly for islam.it works both ways.

Socal | 12/5/2008, 9:11 am EST

What really insults Islam in his wack song is the verse when he says “makes you bow like a Muslim makes salaat” that’s really insulting

Alex | 12/5/2008, 9:31 am EST

muslims are the most touchy people on the planet. anti-everything. i mean do they realize the source of their being miserable is because they are still living in the stone age? reminds me of the crazy far right in america. it’s pathetic how afraid we are getting of muslim culture. LIVE FREE OR DIE

mohammed | 12/5/2008, 10:36 am EST

I mean what buster dosent realize is that the muslims would only bow to the one worthy of it the lord almighty. And that’s as far as it goes. We would not betray our creator like many have.

Kashif | 12/5/2008, 1:21 pm EST

I’ll be honest I dont know about the Quranic verses cause you cant realli tell , however talking about getting down like muslims praying salaat is totally wrong , I think busta should come out and clarify all the rumours that are flying about !

Ron U | 12/5/2008, 2:19 pm EST

Why is it wrong? What heppened to free speech? It’s not like they played this song in a Muslim country

Fozzie Bear | 12/5/2008, 4:03 pm EST

Alex, Ron U, how touchy do people get when someone burns a flag here? You’re right about the equation of Muslim fundamentalists=far right. “Free speech” applies to those countries and societies who have accepted it freely. WOCKA WOCKA WOCKA!!!

Cletus Van Damme | 12/5/2008, 4:22 pm EST

This song not only insults Arabs and Muslims, but rap as well. And good taste. To the person who said “It’s not like they played it in a Muslim country” actually they did. It was England.

Paul | 12/5/2008, 4:48 pm EST

It seems Busta is (at least formerly) a Jehovah’s Witness. So I guess he used to knock on your door on Saturdays screaming “Woo Ha! This pamphlet got ya relationship with Adventists all in check!” So can we just get a Muslim rapper like Ice Cube, Common or Mos Def make fun of Busta not being allowed to celebrate his birthday and call it even for peace?

Killing is killing, so I guess both religious are technically in the wrong. But you have to admit Christian atrocities are on a much smaller level than the Islamic ones. Islamic extremists (and people need to emphasize the EXTREMIST part since I know some Muslim believers who are fine people, even nice to an Atheist infidel like me) go for big body counts. While Christian extremists go for isolated abortion doctor killings, usually.

blahblah | 12/6/2008, 8:14 pm EST

“strict arab law”??? i think they mean strict ISLAMIC law… the two are NOT interchangeable. by the way busta- if you respect arab culture so much, maybe you’d stop using the derogatory term A-rab!!! stupid.

Uhhhhhmmmm.... | 12/6/2008, 9:36 pm EST

“Christian atrocities are on a much smaller level than the Islamic ones.”

Anyone ever hear of the Crusades?

Guess not.

the slave trade was propagated by Christians, too….

400 million Africans must be a pretty small level…

Mickey | 12/6/2008, 11:35 pm EST

Steve “Smooth” Sutherland? He ain’t so “Smooth” now. I bet he regrets playing that fucking awful song now. Busta what the fuck are you on?!?!?!!

ALT | 12/7/2008, 12:46 am EST

Ha-ha..Busta & this dj gettin welfare money now!

Hafsa | 12/7/2008, 2:03 am EST

Are we being judged for defending our religion?? This is not insulting to the arabs its an insult to the entire muslims. One thing that makes me sick is when they associate islam and arabs. Busta you’ve gone toooo far this time.
Call me an extremist for I shall defend my religion to the grave. I for sure will condemn a muslim insulting anyone’s religion.

chukka | 12/7/2008, 5:48 am EST

Sure, look how offended Christians get when any songs reference putting hands together for prayer…. or making confession, or baptisms… or well, you get the idea, the muslims are the opposite of human development.

Dan | 12/7/2008, 5:02 pm EST

He must have missed the memo that music had to conform to all cultural standards. Besides doesn’t the law refer only to arabic people? I can eat cow whenever I want to.

ghosthorse4949 | 12/7/2008, 8:50 pm EST

Im sick of muslims. all they do is bitch and moan. muslims cannot live in peace with anyone even themselves. its time to restart the crusades.

Ashemd | 12/8/2008, 2:11 am EST

I’m Arabic and I LOVE this track!! Because I dont take it seriously, obviously I’m not a Muslim because then it would be impossible for me to like it since Muslims lack a sense of humour and are basically living 2000 years in the past! My parents are strict muslims which is why I dont live at home anymore! People need to relax and not jump on something its just a song, not even a good one its just funny.

Who gives a Care The song is Hot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anonymous | 12/9/2008, 11:33 pm EST

This is just a song. I think many people commenting don’t understand Hip Hop or the double meanings that are often woven in between its lyrics. It may not be the most tactful song ever but there is a perception, whether right or wrong, that many Arab countries are very wealthy…especially from oil. He is simply saying that we wants to ballin’ on the same level that some Arab leaders are ballin’. There are songs where rappers say they want Bill Gates, Bill Clinton, Warren Buffett, and Bob Johnson money. These are white and black people and no one takes it as a racist comment, just what they are striving for. It should be taken as a compliment that many people don’t view our Arab brothers and sisters as terrorists, but rather as intelligent business people. Please don’t take this issue to far because no one is dissing Muslim people or Islam as a religion in this song. And dialouge is good, just don’t make personal attacks to any race.

jonny | 12/9/2008, 11:35 pm EST

Also no one calls it blatant disrespect when some artists in other cultures taken popular American songs and then cover them and make them into local songs in different languages. We all borrow from each other at the end of the day.

RayWajih | 12/10/2008, 12:02 am EST

I don’t see how A-Rab is derogatory at all. I’m Arab and call myself an A-Rab and don’t care when other people call me it. It doesn’t matter. If you actually care that he says A-Rab over Arab then you’re just looking for a reason to bitch about something

khalil | 12/10/2008, 2:45 pm EST

some of these comments against Muslims are seriously offensive, I heard the song I like it, I have always been a fan of busta and still is, there are many times I have read in the in side of one of his CD’s shouting all Praises due to ALLAH…

As muslims being touchy about our faith, the way I see it is, some of you on here are brainwashed by the media and 2nd if he were yelling out Torah or Biblical verses then I’m sure Christian or Jewish groups would be up and arms.

I’m an adovcate of free speech but bashing some one based on how and what they believe is not utilizing the good neighbor policy,
and its funny how people on here yelling F- Islam and Muslims when the vast majority of rappers claim Islam as their religion.

Now I for one have a respect for all religions and it’s funny the Quran teaches me that… and I know how a Christian would feel if he were to see a crucifix in a bucket of Urine or how a Jewish person would feel if he saw Protesters on the street burning a copy of the Torah.

It wouldnt be right especially if one knows the plight of Jesus or Moses, now as for this song I dont think he meant any harm I actually cheered when he said “Make Salat Like a Muslim” in the song, it’s a fun song and I’m still trying to understand where they say a Quranic verse was in the song, I didnt hear it, but to my muslim bashers out there… Its a new day man, and we all have to share this world together.

and like it is said in the Quran: ” To you be your way and to me be mine”

The remix is offensive and should not be played, aired, or dropped.

WHEN it comes to islam we do not associate ISLAM it with music, money, drugs, women, or alcohol. I am deeply offended and have lost complete respect for Busta!

freedom of speech exist, but Intentionally doing or saying something you know will course a Controversy is not FREEDOM OF SPEECH its old plain OFFENSIVE AND DISRESPECTIVE!

No know this has gone to far. n this day n age ome of yall folk should have more of an open mind to things. im sure busta rhymes did not mean to offend anyone with his song. y would he insult some of the fans tht buy his music? that would be brainless. Sometime people make mistakes and in the situation he made a pretty big so y over look the fact the the mans not perfect??? grow up the f**k up. it a party song meant to raise spirits n bring a good vibe. im not arabic or isalmic im black so I can’t say I no where you coming from but be real, it not like he said “fuck a-rabs”. he just “fucked up” – jonnychexx

busta fool | 12/13/2008, 8:06 am EST

The remix is even worse in that he’s using religious verses from the koran, he went from talking about arabs to dropping muslim verses, does he not know the majority of muslims are not arabs! He can go on saying inoocent arab phrases but why use muslim verses, where’s the connection between saying we gettin loadsa money then saying some shit like ‘there is no god but allah and mohammed is the messenger’ why bring religion into it at all. This is taking the piss outta muslims and their religion,if busta wanted he coulda used millions of innocent phrases in arabic but no he wants to use phrases from the koran.these playboy arabs he so looks up to are so far away from islam,is busta and his people really that thick they don’t the differences.

rob | 12/13/2008, 6:11 pm EST

why are Muslims so made when he could say some stuff that would have people doing something crazy to you in the streets instead he made a song showing you love. and words are words if he didn’t sing it in your language you wouldn’t even know what the hell he was talking about so get off his dick, why didn’t dj khaled say something to him about the hook? they’re good friend and khaleds muslim!

A True Hip-Hop Fan | 12/13/2008, 8:33 pm EST

1st of all Busta Rhymes is in fact Muslim. And Arab Money isn’t as offensive or racist as you ignorant people say. If it is true that part of the Qu’ran is prohibited from being song then it is wrong for Busta to have it sung. Over all Busta isn’t trying to be prejudice. If you look at the music video you see DJ Khaled, who is Middle Eastern. Apparently it doesn’t offend him.

Tyra | 12/14/2008, 5:30 pm EST

Persumably,a rap is listened for entertainment purposes then the artist should be clever enough to unite everyone, not create contervorsises and make a good piece of work stink. Busta, rap about the wars, famine, injustice that is happeneing around the world and keep sensitive issues out of the picture. Surely, you will gain more support and create productive debates on the more serious worldly issues.

Mars Five | 12/16/2008, 3:43 am EST

I believe that a strict muslim man or woman would stay clear of un-holy entertainment, period. Just like a strict christian would do the same. I don’t believe Busta was using the song to ridicule Islam because Islam and Saudi (Arab)ia are not one and the same. Although if it’s true that a part of the Q’uran was used in the song: he should know better. The celebration of Saudi Arabian currency is not “morally wrong” (very pride driven) but “airing out” a religious belief was a line Busta was very close to crossing. I’d love to have Saudi Arabian “palace” money. Co-incidently so would most Saudi Arabians.

jawad | 12/16/2008, 8:45 am EST

but its definately grown on me now tho.

Jahblessed | 12/17/2008, 1:54 am EST

You people are so closed minded! It’s a song plain and simple. No disrespect was intended. If Allah, God, Jesus, Jehovah or whomever you proclaim to worship isn’t wise and godly enough to realize that then he isn’t fit to be worshipped. But, I’m sure “God” indeed is! It’s your personal opinions and self righteous attitudes that think it’s offensive. Don’t claim to represent god, Islam or otherwise. I think that’s what’s wrong with the world today. People so quick to hide behind their particular faith to engage in a fight. This fight may not have road side bombs, innocent civilians killed, lying politicians or WMDs involved but it’s a conflict never the less. But you blinded by you pride, egos and you use your religion as a crutch to go against anything that doesn’t fit in your little world. But this is the world people. You took this man’s way of showing respect and love to Arabs and made it something bad. We all grew up in the hood and if you didn’t then you wouldn’t know what he means anyway. The Arabs he’s referring to works down the street and around the corner. They become a part of our everyday lives. We see the money they have. We see the love they show back to us through emulation. So why not give them a song from the culture they work within. I mean damn they already listen to rap, right. So like God, why not give them something they can relate to, and be proud of. Not that Arabs don’t have anything to be proud of. I mean they had my respect from being the cradle of civilization. But with the state of the world today, I think Busta just did more with one song, then all of you and the entire American government has done to ease the tention between the mainstream and Arabs (not muslims cause the song is called Arab Money, bits and pieces of the religion may have been referenced). Maybe a young Arab kid/teenager who’s living in America, struggling to make friends because of fear and ignorance, will finally be excepted in the country he was born in. Everyone of you who thinks this song is disrespectful….may your god forgive you and be more careful in his judgement when it’s your day to be judged.

Jahblessed | 12/17/2008, 2:09 am EST

Oh and one other thing….let me address this thing of right and wrong…right and wrong is prespectvie driven…what right to you may be wrong to me…so if i say fuck islam am i wrong…a muslim may say yes…if i say jesus was a drunk carpenter am i wrong…a christian may say yes…but a jew might find both pretty damn funny…i’m a christian myself…and yes i believe in God…but we must regain our univeral language…our ignorance and hatred of different races, creeds and religions are responsible for 99% of the world wars…past and present…don’t you see that that’s the true test of faith…and that’s your eyes…this man or woman is physically different then me and their religion totally goes against mine…so in the name of my god i must rid the world of these non-believers..lol…now fuckin ridiculous is that…it’s a never ending cycle…would god come to me a black man as a white good…or a asian man as a middle eastern man….no i’ll come as buddha to the asian, allah to the middle easterners and barrack obama to the black man…lol…(i’m joking so no replys please) i’m sure you get the point

E | 12/17/2008, 8:07 am EST

khaled is not muslim, hes catholic… despite his huge “Allah” chain he also has a huge cross chain that he wears… so while he is middle eastern he is still catholic. Allah is God no matter what language.

silent minority | 12/20/2008, 5:11 am EST

Before I begin I wanna say I understand both sides of the argument and I don’t practice any religion in particular but I consider myself a child of God. I’m a black male and a longtime fan of hip hop(especially Busta Rhymes) and I’m not choosing sides but here is my observation.Busta Rhymes is in fact a Muslim (so is T-Pain who is on the remix) and Busta has stated that his intention was to big up Arabic culture not disrespect it. Most people from Urban American don’t follow as strictly in their religious practices as most around the world, whether its Christianity, Islam, or others.Busta may not have known it was wrong to sing qoutes from the quaran(dont know if i spelled it right).I’m sure if he knew the song would offend people he won’t have wrote it.He did apologize to an unknown Iraqi MC who was offended.Iknow many Arabic people who refer to themselves as A-rabs,I know practicing Muslims who enjoy the song.Sometimes you have to step back and look at things from a broader perspective.Bible qoute’s have been used in Hip Hop for decades, even from rappers that talk about things the bible doesn’t promote but based on their own personal understanding of religious teachings that is their way of connecting. If you are personally offended by Arab money there are two things you can do, 1:Turn the radio off and 2:Write a letter to the record company, otherwise stop bashing the artist for not knowing any better. Also stop the hate speech, we bleed the same blood and came from the same earth.Peace!

Tyra | 12/28/2008, 3:31 pm EST

I do think that your suggestion of turning the radio off or writing a complaint is a more civilised way of dealing with the matter. But at the same time it is good to see that our society is active and becuase of such incidences,it just shows that everyone is an individual and have the right to express their opinions.

yt | 1/14/2009, 11:44 pm EST

people get it right Arabs do not have to be Muslim. i’m an arab and I like the song. I don’t understand y they make such a big deal about it when they got enough things to worry about. But being an arab i know they like to make everything about themselves and huge deal.
i just don’t get it.

Im am not sure if Busta Rhymes is muslim or not… if he is he should know that you arent allowed to sing the Quran… not all arabs are muslim even though islam is a big part of the culture there so why did he have to include a part of the quran in the song about “big ass” women and “seven star hotels”, religion and these things have nothing to do with each other. did he even look up the meaning of the quran he was playing in this song? i would have been perfectly okay with the song if he didnt add quran . im muslim but i am half arab and half american so i can see both sides of the situation

LOOK its not about whether he ment to do it or didn’t know it was offensive, forget all the reason the point is you cannot use the quran verses in a song whatever the reason. If he wanted to big up the arabic culture yeh thats not a problem but he shouldn’t of used a verses from the quran. And WTF are people talking about this song is promoting islam and we should be happy???, Islam doesn’t need a song to spread the religion , islam itself brings people to the religion.

Apparently Busta Rhymes is affiliated with the Nation of Gods and Earths, an offshoot of the Nation of Islam. Real Muslims would not consider either group real Muslims any more than real Christians consider Mormons or Jehovah’s Witnesses real Christians. That explains why Busta is familiar with some basic Arabic phrases, Quranic verses, and Muslim worship practices.

Look this is just a simple freedom of speech issue. Busta should be able to say what ever he wants about who ever he wants as long as he isn’t inciting violence against them or advocating a denial of their rights. If you get offended turn him off. You can’t silence all the critics. Just ignore them.

How is this any worse than Mapplethorpe’s “Piss Christ”? Its just that Muslims get their underwear in a bunch over any tiny perceived offense.

But I assure you this won’t happen after the global Islamic revolution is complete. Allahuakbar!

I wish God was to come down and shut all you guys up with your silly arguments and stupid clashes of religion. If we Love ONE God and we worship him and nobody else we wil be united in heaven no matter what religion you are, but not if you worship many Gods with the knowledge of ONe True GOD.

bro dis is a fuking hectic song..

Anonymous | 3/23/2009, 3:20 am EST

F* religion…it’s the root of all evil and I mean ALL religions. I don’t need anyone to tell me how to live my life. And I LOVE the song – I think it sounds beautiful (I don’t know what the arabic words mean, but they sound good). If anything it promotes Arab culture, but it is sad that Arabs or Mulims are offended by the song. At the end of the day though at some time or another we’ll all be offended. I choose to not care when people offend me – what’s the point of wasting energy on being angry about something you cannot change? Like others say – turn of the radio – Muslims aren’t supposed to listen to music anyway. Peace!

dodo | 3/24/2009, 3:27 pm EST

Fuck everyone love the song muslims are recpecting the other religouns so they have to recpect us too it’s our religoun and we will not let anyone make the islam a joke

tina | 3/28/2009, 8:58 pm EST

U know wat.. Busta rhymes claims he’z a Muslim & yet he has disrespected Our Religion in such a disgraceful manner. ASTAKFIRULLAH!! mixing music with Verses from the Holy QURAN is disgusting.

mimi | 3/29/2009, 4:53 am EST

I am muslim, and I’m mad because I’m middle eastern and in this song he’s offending us middle eastern women and mentioning that all of them have bad attitudes and go to casinos and all that crap. Busta rhymes whatever his name is, shouldn’t have sung this in the first place.. there are many other subjects that he should have sung about.

If he is a muslim as he claims to be then he should know that these are offensive since the rules muslims follow prohibit drugs and alcohol and etc so why bring it up in the song? it’s pretty stupid and ignorant of him to do so.

I really hope he won’t sing any more muslim offending songs, if he’s proud to be muslim then he should stop singing offensive stuff and start singing good stuff instead or something. Besides, he’s spreading hate now throughout the world and this goes against islam teachings where muslims should be spreading peace among nations rather than spreading hate and disputes.. we really don’t need anymore troubles all we need is a peaceful world where people respect each other and respect their beliefs and backgrounds.

Adilf 652832 | 3/30/2009, 4:04 am EST

Busta Rhymes’ song does show many aspects of the arab world that are true. Many muslim arabs drink and behave in inicit (not-muslim) ways. Although this song does use verses of the Quran which does push it of the edge. When i first heard this song i thought it sounded awesome. Anyway peace

Anonymous | 4/1/2009, 2:05 pm EST

people do something towards that shit

Gangsta thug | 4/9/2009, 12:25 am EST

1st of all, busta ddnt mean no disrespect 2 any religion, race or country..clearly he’s none the wiser..as it seems some people shaft-mine 4 ways to be insulted..dumb ass muthafukaz who try infiltrate religious violence against “infidels”..if haters wanna hate then its their loss..2nd, people who think african is a language, u jus daft-ass muthafukaz who need to learn a thing or two about the continent..last but not least, in the words of rodney king, can’t we all jus get along??

Anonymous | 4/10/2009, 3:20 pm EST

man I just don’t understand why can’t some rules just be respected!! Muslims don’t like anything that disregrards the holiness of their religion! As simple as that!! just as Jews or Germans don’t like when someone does the Sieg Heil thing or deny the Holocust! Just as Blacks wouldn’t like any body to refer to them as slaves or Descendents of Slaves… Their might not be a logical reason to not do stuff like that, but it’s a fact! it is there, and will always be…everybody has something their sensitive about, and we shall all respect each other!

jus blaze | 4/14/2009, 4:15 pm EST

twister | 4/15/2009, 7:04 pm EST

why do u people always think of evil, what if the davinchi code was based on a muslim prophet, WORLD WAR 4. the world is a better place without complications. the song is a millenium knock out. sorry haters

anonymous | 4/17/2009, 3:13 am EST

i dont understand how people r confused about how this song might hurt arab’s feelings. first off calling a arab an ay-rab, is like callin a black person the N word. its blatant racism. im a black person and i kno dis. think how mad black people would b if white people made a song sayin “im gettin N word money”

Quico | 4/20/2009, 3:25 am EST

I think they have it wrong, it offend all Muslims, not just Arabs.

mims | 7/16/2009, 6:19 pm EST

im a muslim and im not offended by it becouse people guess what ITS A SONG! its stupid to take shit lite that to heart. if you dont like it dont take it to heart and if your offended by the lyrics dont freakin listen to the song goosh its not that hard to turn of the radio or whatever, man stop dissing and start loving DAMNIT !

Yasser | 9/29/2009, 3:50 pm EST

First, what he did is completely agaisnt islam, imagine the uproar that would happen if this was a racist song or contreversial to other religions. Second his ignorance makes him believe that arabs and muslims would respect this. As if his “reppin” for us. But this is one of the highest disrespect. To put quran in a song which will be played in clubs where girls are butt naked and everyones trashed. Lastly, Mims i just happen to see your blog because its over the comment screen.. and imagine if this guy made a song disrespecting your mom in a song. Youd probably flip. even if it was just a song. But in this case its Allah, who we love more than our parents infinite times, if u really are a muslim, it might b time to wake up. the “stop dissin start loving” comment you made is also against islam. Islam taches love of the things god loves and HATE of the things god HATES. its called “wala wa l’bara” if you care to learn your religion. If not, dont leave postings which make it harder for people who do represent ISLAM to do their job.

msg to muslim | 10/19/2009, 11:59 am EST

busta ryms is a newly muslim convert. if we muslims backlash against him do you think he’d still wanna be a muslim? we should be supporting him and making him feel that choosing islam was the best decision he ever made

and what exactly is he saying in arab money? will muslims still object to him if he had praised allah in english? lets have a look at what exactly his words are

Bismillahir Rahmanir Rahim
Alhamdu lillahi Rabbil ‘alamin
(Special Praise be to Allah, the Sustainer of the creation).

Assalamu ‘alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh.
(Allah’s peace, blessings and grace be on you believers!)

anon | 10/27/2009, 7:37 pm EST

I think the main reason people choose to make a point out of this song is that while there may be double meanings, free speech/experssion, and all that, the song itself is just awful.

Cheap samples, stupid dancing, cameos from other rappers who just run their mouths on nonsense. Like Akon: “Compton! Music! Senegal! Money!”..way to go so original thats why you have to make a buck on other peoples records instead of making you own.

And then to top it off they throw in a mixture of mock-arabic jibberish and words from the Quran. If busta is muslim then he should respect the rule not to put the Q to song, right?.

Its just a terrible song with an untactful approach to islam, and arabic culture in general. Whatever aims he may have had, they unfortunatly are being portrayed as a complete farce both musically and culturally
