Dr Pepper have responded to the Guns N’ Roses’ claim that the free soda stunt was “a complete fiasco,” saying in a statement, “We are disappointed that Gn’R’s lawyers are turning a fun giveaway into a legal dispute.” According to the Dr Pepper Snapple Group, it was Axl Rose’s own management company that approached the soda makers before the campaign launched and openly shared their Chinese Democracy promotional plans with them. “We simply commented on the delayed release of Chinese Democracy and openly encouraged the band to release it before the end of the year. Axl even expressed support for our efforts earlier in the year,” the statement reads.

Dr Pepper has since taken steps to make sure those who had difficulties getting the coupon for free soda, extending the deadline, adding a toll-free phone number and offering coupons well beyond the release date. “This was one of the largest responses we have ever received for a giveaway, and we’re happy we were able to satisfy the thirst of so many Dr Pepper fans,” the company said. “We wish Guns n’ Roses the best with their album.” Despite Guns n’ Roses demands for an apology, Dr Pepper’s statement came without the use of the word “Sorry.”

Step aside booze and drugs, rock’s new danger is soda.

JOSH | 12/3/2008, 1:25 pm EST

Jesus Christ, it’s a $1.29 bottle of soda!!! This is just pathetic! Yeah, I’m sure everybody bought the album for the Dr. Pepper! Chalk it up to bad luck, and enjoy listening to your shitty album!

Dr. Pepper tastes like fruity piss, and Chinese Democracy is simply overrated trite.

Give me a regular Coca-Cola, and a Beatles album anyday of the week.

Jere | 12/3/2008, 2:32 pm EST

The lesson here: Don’t get even remotely involved with anything involving Axl Rose.

BK | 12/3/2008, 4:17 pm EST

What a bunch of creeps over at Dr. Pepper!

Simple Math | 12/3/2008, 4:42 pm EST

Dr. Pepper=trying to back off of a promise

Axl Rose=Did not promise anything ever in regards to Chinese Democracy

mynameisearl | 12/3/2008, 5:19 pm EST

chalk it up to axl’s continued appetite for destruction.

SGT. Slaughter | 12/3/2008, 8:32 pm EST

Did Michael Jackson ever sue Pepsi when his hair caught fire?

I would like to meet this Dr. Pepper and see if he can prescribe me some pain pills for this mess..

Still like the Album though…

umpheter | 12/3/2008, 10:42 pm EST

Dr Pepper has not made good on its promise of a free drink for everyone in America. Why such a limited time to claim coupon? I tried but could not get through.

Ken | 12/4/2008, 8:37 am EST

Axl’s just whining (as usual) because he doesn’t drink Dr. Pepper. If this were Ensure promising free stuff, Axl would be all over it.

Thundercrotch | 12/4/2008, 10:47 am EST

Now if it was Mr. Pibb, I would be upset.

Bman | 12/4/2008, 1:21 pm EST

It’s going to take more than a free Dr. Pepper to make up for this shitty album.

GNR – Godawful Noise coming from my Radio.

Steven Adler | 12/4/2008, 1:40 pm EST

Axl has gone nuts. This is exactly why the “Axl Rose” video by Def Karaoke Jam is better than anything on Axl’s 15 year debacle of an album.

Jim | 12/4/2008, 1:43 pm EST

Im suing DR. Pepper too. They ruined the album!

THERE IS NO GNR | 12/4/2008, 2:53 pm EST

None of this would be a problem if Dr. Pepper could prescribe Botox.

Charlie Miller | 12/4/2008, 3:27 pm EST

Don’t really care one bit about this argument. I enjoy the album too, surprisingly. I really believe that if this were released as an Axl Rose solo album, or separate band’s, that people would really enjoy it, instead of instantly damning it for what isn’t on it, instead of finding out what actually is.

I guess people love getting themselves caught up in these soap operas. It’s music. Listen to it.

sublime1982 | 12/4/2008, 3:36 pm EST

Why did Dr.Pepper have to ruin Axl’s life? If I were Axl I would be more concerned with Best Buy. I saw zero promotion for that album. When I went to purchase is there was a card board cutout off to the side in the door way. Why doesnt Axl just cut the crap and get back together with the original members. He needs someone around him to say “that weird noice isnt neccesary for that song”.

stitch grimly | 12/4/2008, 5:52 pm EST

It would be an ok album if axl could edit his whining by about 90%

Dr Pepper is shit anyway. Calm down people.

mynameisearl | 12/5/2008, 10:26 am EST

dr pepper ruined axl’s life ?
axl ruins axl’s life.
little axl can’t seem to play well with the other children.
waaaah.
axl’s mgmt approached dr pepper about promotion.
are you really concerned that you couldn’t get a can of soda ?
what is your major malfunction, private joker ?
better settle for a reach-a-round.

Simple Math | 12/6/2008, 10:47 pm EST

Chinese Democracy=biggest selling album in the world

Liam P-M | 12/11/2008, 6:17 pm EST

now wasn’t that what Axl wanted?
that and a sorry, but i’d be interested how axl responds.

Mandela | 12/14/2008, 1:07 am EST

I mean f***, it’s a bottle of Dr. Pepper. Did people really get this pissed over coke? What’s cost, a dollar in a vending machine? If you make minimum wage and spend more than ten minutes fretting over your coupon, you have officially lost money. I did not see and explicit lyrics label on my vinyl copy of C.D. Why didnt this get sold at Walmart? People have made light of how this sold so many less copies than Black Ice, but seriously, there are five Walmart’s I pass on a weekly basis, and no Bestbuys. I had to drive a hakf an housr out of my way to get it.

Nick | 12/20/2008, 10:10 pm EST

Beatles suck, and Chinese democracy is a masterpiece. Quit this ridiculous hating on Axl and the only good music released since Stadium Arcadium.

Moves | 12/31/2008, 4:09 am EST

I like Dr.Pepper. I’m an axl fan…..who cares what people think. Enjoy your drink and enjoy a damn good album. What’s all the confusion?

96camaro | 4/20/2009, 1:01 pm EST

Chinese democracy fucking blows, all you fuckers that say it the best album ever are fucking stupid and there is no GNR without slash duff adler and izzy and besides axl still a bitch for trying to start shit with vince neil and pissing out like the bitch he is
