Ron Wood Says Faces Reunion Tour Is “Ready to Go”

Ron Wood has confirmed long-standing reports that the Faces are gearing up for a reunion tour next year. “We had a few fantastic rehearsals last week and we’re ready to go,” Wood tells Rolling Stone. “It’s like no time has passed by.” Rod Stewart’s touring bassist Conrad Korsch sat in on bass, replacing original Faces bassist Ronnie Lane who died in 1997. “There’s a lot of guest bass players that want to do it — including Flea,” says Wood. They plan on hitting the road sometime in 2009, though no dates have been set. “We just have to sort out when and where and drop all of the management egos and just do what we can. We know we can do it. It’s just a matter of getting everyone’s availability sometime next year.” New studio work might also be in their future. “Rod wants me to write a load of new stuff for him, so I can do that,” says Wood. As far as Wood’s other band goes, he says he’s “always itching to do more work with [The Rolling Stones]. We just haven’t decided when and where, yet, but I know we will.”

diskey23 | 1/27/2009, 2:43 am EST

i guess this is a no go. Apparently they did not get along when they met up last fall, according to the New York Post & others sources this past week.

Mark | 1/25/2009, 8:11 pm EST

I saw the Stones at Winterland in SF in 1972 for the much hyped “Exile” tour and then saw the Faces in an arena a few months later. The Faces were better…

I am not sure that Tetsu is still alive but toward the end of the Faces, he was drinking more than the rest of the band, which woulda took some doing!

Not sure why Flea was chosen. Hopefully, he can just be solid and stay in the background…

This is a show I would surely go see! Right on.

The Pie man | 1/23/2009, 7:03 pm EST

For those of you who have never seen them, you don’t know what your missing.kilburn gourmont 1974,Keith Richards guest guitarist, final concert of their last British tour, sweet little rock’n'roller ect,PRICELESS
Ps.Tetsu on bass last original line-up,he should be on this tour.Is he still alive?

Ronnie Would'nt (Borstal Boys) | 1/23/2009, 5:21 am EST

About time lads - See you there - ‘Swordfish’!

Peter | 1/15/2009, 9:17 am EST

With any luck, this tour will come off well, and Rod can keep Ron Wood permanently and let the Stones bring in a REAL guitar player who might just light a fire under Keith Richards ass again before they call it a day.

plonk | 1/13/2009, 3:32 pm EST

greatest rock n roll band of all time

pastor | 1/10/2009, 11:46 pm EST

DO NOT PUT FLEA ON BASS,,,,you might as well get tetsu..he suck hard…do you want to make the best brit(FACES) band in world turn funk(flea will do that to you)….get a fresh brit bass player.. and do not get a horn section and 3 girl backup singers and strings shit like that!! keep it realllll!!!!!.

Vin Daly | 1/10/2009, 9:01 pm EST

My hopes are really up … this better happen … and they have to come Boston USA

Reality Check | 1/10/2009, 12:44 pm EST

When’s their new album coming out? I’d love to hear some NEW Faces tracks. Very exciting in these depressing times.

basser | 1/6/2009, 5:31 pm EST

Has anybody heard anymore news on this? It’s been over a month. The Web sites of Wood, Stewart and McLagan don’t even mention the reunion plans now. And is Flea still going to play bass? I say they should get Free’s Andy Fraser, or Bill Wyman, both who would be a better fit for Kenney Jones’ drumming and Ron Wood’s guitar, instead of Flea. Flea is a beast on the bass, but would be too hyperactive and wrong visually, sonically and heart-wise for Faces ….

Lawman | 1/6/2009, 10:43 am EST

I’ve seen them all over the years, Stones, Who, Thin Lizzy, Zep, Queen, Bowie etc etc but non of them could touch the good time rock n roll of a Faces gig. Without doubt, they were the best ever band playing live & every concert was just like a pub vault singalong !

chalkie | 12/18/2008, 4:28 pm EST

hope they come to new zealand oh ia ia

Dietmar Simon | 12/15/2008, 4:20 pm EST

To be there, when they play ‘Angel’ is worth continuing

Go away | 12/11/2008, 2:06 pm EST

Not the faces….I mean all the idiods who are haters for this reunion…

Rod was and is one of the greatest voices in rock and his work on American songbook is fantastic… I think Paul Mc Cartney should play bass though…wouldnt that be a gas!

sence | 12/9/2008, 10:39 pm EST

How about be glad that this reunion may happen. All of you people with these stupid negative comments most likely do not even play an instrument, I do so shut up all of you fools and hope for the best on this tour and shut up.

herbert | 12/9/2008, 8:59 am EST

Fantastic! get ready for the party of your life.
The Faces sure know how to have a good time!!

GRT7V | 12/9/2008, 4:50 am EST

My 22 y o son is already filled with anticipation and will join me for at least one of the gigs. Imagine if you will that one Sat’ night out with all your best mates; your soccer team have just won 3-2 and the bar is free..to top that, your favourite band are on stage and bring the house down - that IS a Faces concert - bring them on but it’ll be tighter and sound so much better as Stewart is the perfectionist.

jackrainman | 12/7/2008, 10:23 pm EST

Why don’t they ask Tetsu Yamauchi to fill in for the bass? He was the bass player when they split in 1975.

FacesTooLate | 12/7/2008, 5:13 pm EST

Absolutely loved The Faces, but this is a bad move. WAY TOO LATE for something like this to see. I said the same for the Police reunion at first, and was dumb enough to pay WAT too much to see them and not listen to my own advice. Not a great Police show by any stretch, and I won’t make the same mistake with the Faces.

William Phelps | 12/7/2008, 11:14 am EST

Bill Wyman for bass player. After all, Bill and Charlie created the stones background sound and is the greatest rock bassist of all times.

maxy woo | 12/7/2008, 11:10 am EST

it will be class! and excuse me The Who are still rockin and are still top of the tree if you go and see them.

True rock n' roll | 12/6/2008, 10:07 pm EST

I’m a 26 year old female, and I know about The Faces — this band rocked, literally. They could wipe the floor with any so-called rock band today. They were rock n’ roll.

David | 12/6/2008, 4:44 pm EST

Looks like Woodie has his old drinking buddies back. I hope it doesn’t disintegrate before it starts. They were undeniably one of the greatest touring bands ever. I agree with basser above. Flea is dynamite but not right for the gig. Wyman would be a more genuine choice as would be any of the old Brits floating around.

Juniorded | 12/6/2008, 5:58 am EST

This is JUST WHAT WE NEED!
This is going to be fantastic! Faces reunion!!!! HELL YEAH!
It´s a shame there is really no one that can match this band - A sorry state for rock, for sure.

basser | 12/4/2008, 11:36 am EST

Hey Martyn,

Yes, supposedly keyboardist Ian McLagan (pronounced Mac Cloggin) and drummer Kenney Jones are on board for this tour. I hope they don’t Flea to play bass, though. I like Flea, but he and his style would be wrong for Faces. I say Bill Wyman or Tetsu Yamuchi, who replaced the late Ronnie Lane (RIP) in 1974.

weasel | 12/3/2008, 8:01 pm EST

what a great reunion!!! thankfully, i,m old enough to remember REAL rock n’ roll

mcstansical | 12/3/2008, 6:21 pm EST

If they can pull it off this would be a fantastic re-union. Saw them 4-5 times in the 70’s. Rod was, at one time, a great rock n ‘ roller. Hopefully he can redeem himself on this tour.

gongstar | 12/3/2008, 5:16 pm EST

The Faces were the best touring band when they were together. A reunion is hit or miss, but I wouldnt want to miss it. I reluctantly saw The Police this year and was more than pleasantly surprised. I have high expectations in anticipation of a Faces show and expect to be very pleased, and if I’m disappointed at least it will be because I was there to judge it and not get some negative person’s opinion who wouldn’t even go to the show!

LongJohnny99 | 12/3/2008, 2:13 pm EST

Pool Hall Richard
Glad & Sorry
If I’m On The Late Side
Last Orders Please
Ooh La La

If you can’t enjoy songs like this, or if like the majority of talkbackers don’t even know of their existence, please comment elsewhere. I’m not gonna say the Faces are the “greatest rock band ever” but I’d rather see them than the tired Stones at this point.

neal | 12/3/2008, 2:05 pm EST

I’d go just to hear “Oh La La”

dig it

Feces | 12/3/2008, 12:56 pm EST

Rod Stewart is useless. Ron Wood must be broke from years of living in the Jaggar/Richards shadow and not collecting much of the pot. I hope the Faces work up some new Tom Waits and Van Morrison songs for Rod Stewart to butcher. My old mom would probably like to see Stewart croon some more garbage with these surviving members. This show would be embarassing.

John515 | 12/3/2008, 9:06 am EST

I agree with Dean Wien (who has great taste by appreciating Glen)that Glen Matlock would be the perfect fit for a Faces tour. So talented and so UNDERATED!! He woud fit in perfectly.

Also, if Glen cannot do it, Bill Wyman would be a great fit. He filled in for Ronnie LAne once or twice (when poor Ronnie was too ill to play) at brief Faces reunions.

I am just glad I am getting a chance to see finally see them live!!!!

Martyn Earplug | 12/2/2008, 7:29 pm EST

No mention yet of the drummer and keyboardist. Are Kenny Jones and Ian McCaglin on board?

CactusPete | 12/2/2008, 4:57 pm EST

The Faces were the Greatest Bar Band in the World! I saw them play the Depot(later First Ave)back in Mpls back in 1970. They play till 4:00AM and got down to no shirts & hotel towels around their necks and took requests from the crowd down front!Rod’s career sorely diminished after they broke up (at least creatively).Ronnie is an incredible guitarist and has helped keep the Stones Rollin’ many years past their expiration date for sure!I’ll be there whenever they decide to Rock & ROCK they will! ~C.P.

radio zero | 12/2/2008, 3:42 pm EST

i didn’t know bawbwa walters was in a band? that’s cwazy!!

Dean Wien | 12/2/2008, 3:42 pm EST

I thought it was decided that Glen Matlock (Bass Player for The Sex Pistols)was going to join up with The Faces. He would be an incredible choice. The Small Faces/The Faces is one of his favorite groups, and he knows all the songs. I think The Sex Pistols just finished a huge festival tour in Europe, and that would make him available unless The Pistols go back out on the road. He would be the #1 choice. He’s an incredible bass player.

Meatwad | 12/2/2008, 3:05 pm EST

Yes its true Ron Wood, looks like an ape from Planet of the Apes. But he’s still one the best guitar playing apes ever. I love the Stones, and a Faces reunion should be a pretty good concert as long they have oxygen for these old men after the show is over.

Deano | 12/2/2008, 2:38 pm EST

There may be some hope for real original, feel-good rock after all. It sure ain’t coming from any band born after 1982, that’s for sure. I wonder what chain store will make their new CD an exclusive?

Kelso | 12/2/2008, 2:31 pm EST

So the Stones traded Ronnie Wood to the Faces and will bring back Mick Taylor. Order is restored in the world of rock.

al rose | 12/2/2008, 2:06 pm EST

the faces cover of lennnon’s jealous guy is great

K-Boy | 12/2/2008, 12:39 pm EST

Rod was one of the coolest rockers on the planet. Hopefully he does this so the younger generation can see the real Rod, not the “standards” Rod.

cRAIG | 12/2/2008, 12:29 pm EST

Flea? really?

Thundercrotch | 12/2/2008, 12:29 pm EST

What’s next? A reunion of the Artie Shaw Orchestra? Jeez! I can’t wait for Rod’s songbook Volume Five - The Final Removal of My Balls!

Jaded NY-ers | 12/2/2008, 11:53 am EST

THE FACES
Let all the negative propaganda begin.

In fact…lets just analyze the idea of them reforming to death so no one will ever be able to enjoy the moment when it happens.

jeffgtr | 12/2/2008, 11:31 am EST

Rod has a chance to redeem himself. Never has a talent been so wasted the last several years.

rocker | 12/2/2008, 10:27 am EST

faces will remind people what real rock n’ roll is about.
thse guys rocked from the bottom of their souls and a nod is a baddass testament to their art.
now rod you’ll need your balls back for this.

"A NOD IS AS GOOD AS A WINK.. | 12/2/2008, 9:17 am EST

Just listen to their album “A NOD IS AS GOOD AS A WINK TO A BLIND HORSE”…..Need I say more?

Lets put the fun back in the music business and get the busine$$ out

awesome, id love to see em.

The Intl | 12/2/2008, 1:53 am EST

In a vein similar-but-different from Crazy Horse, The Faces were magnificent in their sloppiness. The shows were hit & miss, you just had to make sure you had a flask. And how come no one has mentioned Tetsu as bassist?

saltlick | 12/2/2008, 1:25 am EST

Back from the days of pork sandwiches
in a plastic bag, rooster hairdos,8-track tapes and liquor.

Sweet Lady Mary | 12/1/2008, 11:35 pm EST

…I’m in if they play “Ooh La La” and “Love Lives Here” a bazillion times.

basser | 12/1/2008, 11:17 pm EST

I would go see them in a heartbeat. People can go see Zep without Plant, but to see all the living members of Faces on a stage. I am so there. I miss Ronnie Lane (RIP), though I met him in 1997. I only wish they’d let me play bass for their 2009 tour. I already know all the songs and Ian McLagan likes me …. :)

The Faces | 12/1/2008, 10:10 pm EST

were decent. Certainly not the coolest band of all time. Hipster douchebags come in all shapes and sizes; sometimes they even tout a band as the coolest of all time. In some cases (Police, Cream, Eagles, Fleetwood Mac) a reunion after a lengthy breakup adds to a bands’ legacy. In some cases, it does not. Those who care shall see. And I seriously doubt ANYONE has a Hinder tattoo.

Sirloin | 12/1/2008, 9:41 pm EST

Wood only just got off the road with the Stones!
Jagger-Richards don’t seem interested in Wood’s material. It would serve them right if he came up with a new classic for Faces.
But I wonder if Wood knows what he’s getting himself into. He can no longer coast as sole guitarist.

Bad N Ruin | 12/1/2008, 9:24 pm EST

A lot of people care dude, since they were the coolest rock band of all time. Let me guess, you’re a hipster douchebag with a faux-hawk and Hinder tattoo?

Alfred | 12/1/2008, 9:24 pm EST

Hell yeah. I f-ing love The Faces.

Nathan | 12/1/2008, 9:14 pm EST

I’d be more into seeing this show than the Plant-less Zeppelin.

MotTheWot | 12/1/2008, 9:05 pm EST

It will make a nice change from soft cock Rod back to Rockin’ Rod after 4 American Songbook barf fests!!!

Heathen2002 | 12/1/2008, 8:57 pm EST

Awesome! Time to make some big money to pay off Ronnie’s upcoming divorce settlement…

ted | 12/1/2008, 7:29 pm EST

faces rock!!! this is a show I’d pay to see

is 2008! | 12/1/2008, 7:13 pm EST

Reunion? Are you serious? do anyone care?

Jamier | 12/1/2008, 6:45 pm EST

From the photo, it looks like he might be doing a “Planet Of The Apes” reunion.

!!! | 12/1/2008, 6:36 pm EST

Rods chance to bring back COOL.
YES!

Denton | 12/1/2008, 3:27 pm EST
