No Doubt will end their five-year hiatus for a tour in 2009, the band revealed in an instant message conversation on their official Website. The band, sans Gwen Stefani, started work on their first album since 2001’s Rock Steady earlier this year, crafting songs while Stefani was pregnant with her second child. “I think if we go out on tour it will inspire us to write,” Stefani says in the chat. “I need to see the fans out there.” The band will hit the road “soon,” and continue writing and recording the album as they tour (they’ve already confirmed one date at Bamboozle). “I think playing the shows would make the studio time even better,” writes bassist Tony Kanal. No other details regarding exact tour dates were revealed. The band is reportedly working with producer Mark “Spike” Stent, who previously helmed tracks on the band’s last album Rock Steady and on Stefani’s first solo album Love. Angel. Music. Baby.

trish | 3/29/2009, 4:16 am EST

I hope they go back to the Tragic Kingdom sounding music…I miss those days. I was so young when that cd came out, it was my first ever cd haha.

Seychelle | 3/6/2009, 8:00 pm EST

Ive loved ND since i was about 10. And glad the group is doing this “reunion tour”. I thnk its about time.
Thats nice ppl ike PJ Harvey. We’ve all got our opinions. =]

stevie | 3/5/2009, 10:24 am EST

i have been a no doubt fan for as long as i can remember. they are so awesome and when i see them in front of me (bought my tickets last night) i will probably go into boy band mode and start crying. maybe even faint.

amanda | 3/2/2009, 12:28 am EST

who cares about ska??? i’ve been a no doubt fan since i was 8 years old (i’m 20 now) and i love every album they’ve made. i loved rock steady just as much as their first album and i know i’m going to love this one too.

Rae | 2/18/2009, 6:02 pm EST

No Doubt and Paramore HAVE to come to DC or VA or Somewhere! I will DIE if they don’t!!! I love both bands and I can’t wait for this tour!!!

they better come to australia

jman | 1/18/2009, 10:10 pm EST

I love nd and was very mad when i found out that they were going on a hiatus. this is great news to me and to everyone who enjoys no doubt. screw all the haters, because nd has pumped out many hits and i think return if saturn was good {not as good as tragic kingdom}.

Fan or Foe? | 12/23/2008, 5:15 pm EST

A piece of advice to all the haters,
if you’re gonna waste your time
bashing a band be a smart ass
about it; have something actually
to back the shit you say. No Doubt
is not that bad of a band. Yeah
sure, they sold out and aren’t a
Ska band anymore, but hey at least
they’re a few of the mainstream artists
that actually are creative and write their
own lyrics. So, No Doubt…great
mainstream rock band…as for the
Ska sound…that died as soon as the
Return of Saturn album came out.
So for all of those No Doubters out
there…the new 2009 album…is it
going to be Ska? Don’t count on it.
I’d be shocked if it actually had
a ska song in it that sounds just like
their old stuff (e.g. No Doubt, Beacon
Street Collection). The same dude that produced the Rocksteady album is
producing the new one and well
Rocksteady to me was a flop and had
no reggae, ska, dance hall, or rocksteady
feel to it at all. So to conclude, yeah I like
No Doubt and their first three albums.
Return of Saturn was okay, Rocksteady sucked ass. Hey everybody’s a critic.
watchya gonna do?! LoL

YaMs_BaBy! | 12/23/2008, 1:40 pm EST

Omg I SUPER LOVE ND! I’ve been a fan since I was about 7! I’m 16 now and I still cannot wait for there new album! Just PLEASE…go somewhere…

Joe | 11/28/2008, 12:56 pm EST

I saw PJ Harvey open for U2 and she blew hardcore. Checked out her album after that tour and it confirmed it.

HatersAreRetarded | 11/26/2008, 5:23 pm EST

For all you haters out there, I’m pretty sure that the artists you like are worse than No Doubt!! ND is amazing, and you all (haters) don’t realize how great they are.

Gary | 11/26/2008, 5:20 pm EST

I’ve been waiting for so long for their return and new album. I’m so excited and I can’t wait!!

Harry Peratesties | 11/26/2008, 12:43 pm EST

I hope they go back to their roots a bit more on this album. Rock Steady was good, it just didn’t have the same magic as TK.

Anonymous | 11/26/2008, 10:20 am EST

lol! haters, why? This is big. No doubt kills, Gwen Staefani kills, haters cry too much.

Grayson | 11/25/2008, 9:10 pm EST

I Love No Doubt and I’m a Huge Gwen Fan. I’m so Happy to Hear this News. I Have Been Waiting so Long for a New Album. I Hope They do Like a Partial Dance/Ska-Rock Album, I Like all Their Tunes. But No They Aren’t a Hard Rocking Band (Thank God) but they are Inspirational and Very Entertaining. They Have always Done their own Thing and Have Never Been Anything Other Than Themselves. I Really See No Need for Anyone to Bash Them. If You Don’t Like Them, Fine, but Don’t Waste Your or My Time by Posting Nothing but Hate Messages. I Love Them and Always will, the Least You Haters Could do is be Respectful Enough to Allow their Fans to be Happy and You Ignore it All. If You Were a Band Who Went in to Like Hiding and was Fixing to Come Back into Music You Wouldn’t Want to Read About People Bashing You. They are People to and They are Doing What They Love.

DeeDee | 11/25/2008, 8:47 am EST

Lotta haters out there….

Garrett | 11/25/2008, 2:27 am EST

I can’t believe how many drama queens there are on here. I would guess that most of them would be terrified to repeat some of the things they type to the faces of the people they are typing them to. Regardless, I think it’s funny that so many people blacklist anything popular (which is where the term “pop” actually comes from). If an artist or group is popular, they must be HORRIBLE. Let’s face it: not all music is popular for the wrong reasons. There is some really brilliant unpopular music out there. However, when I hear a lot of these indie or unpopular acts who often perform on Conan, for example, they demonstrate a clear lack of melodic and harmonic understanding, have severely underdeveloped voices, suffer from interpretive problems, and/or have poor stage presence. I don’t think No Doubt are in any way a profound band, but I do think they have earned their popularity and are legitimate artists. If we’re going to talk about someone with an artistically-challenged fan base, let’s talk about Britney Spears. Dancing ability and good looks should not earn someone a record deal! Why hasn’t she disappeared, yet?!

multipass | 11/25/2008, 1:16 am EST

rock steady, hellagood, just a girl, underneath it all, spiderwebs, hey mister, don’t speak, it’s my life, girlfriend, simple kind of life, plus batch of gwens hits… should be a good 90 minutes of fun.

Anonymous | 11/25/2008, 12:10 am EST

Hot chickas that actually know how to rock??LMAO Gwen “bottled blonde” Stefani is hot? Maybe if you’re into synthetic beauty. And please, she’s no rocker. You want someone who has waaaay more talent and truly rocks? Go Pj Harvey! That’s one genuine female rocker to be proud of.

Anonymous | 11/25/2008, 12:00 am EST

The band that rode the popularity of the 90’s alternative rock. Need I say more? Tragic Kingdom was a weak album with very cheesy hit singles. They’re really more of a pop band than a truly rock/ska band. Fourteen year olds listened to them at that time? That pretty much tells you of their fanbase.lol

Jeff | 11/24/2008, 11:52 pm EST

Super excited to see them. I do hope the new material is less pop and more rock this time around though.

oldballs | 11/24/2008, 11:41 pm EST

Do I like No Doubt that much? Nah, not really, they’re alright, but thats it…that been said, this website must be infested with people who haven’t sprouted their first pube. Hate a band, tear them a new anus, but if you’re going to thrash a band do it right. Tell us what we should be listening to, so we know how full of dogshit you are. I mean, we need a gauge here. I’d be willing to bet a vast chunk of these douche’s CD collection isn’t something I would rest my damn drink on.

CR1ZZ | 11/24/2008, 11:38 pm EST

If they tour and do well then good for them. But after that they’re just going to keep performing the same material for like 2 years then they’ll be forgotten by the majority of the modern world. Exept by their loyal fans. Which I’m not.
Holding out desperately for Guns’n'roses to reform properly and to do a full world tour.

dean | 11/24/2008, 11:12 pm EST

one of the greatest bands of the 90’s.

teir sound was fresh and new. just coz you don;t like them. no need to make nasty comments and make a dick of yourself

Hells Ya! | 11/24/2008, 10:57 pm EST

No Doubt was the last mainstream punk band on the market. We need punk back in music to influence the raw energy music is missing altogether today.

ME | 11/24/2008, 7:34 pm EST

WHO CARES?????

Parker | 11/24/2008, 5:23 pm EST

No Doubt was the first band I was obsessed with. I can’t wait to see them again.

Casual Observer | 11/24/2008, 5:06 pm EST

Gwen Stefani wants to go back on tour to ogle that bass player she used to boink.

Anonymous | 11/24/2008, 3:43 pm EST

one hit wonder? They released an album called “the singles 1992-2003″ which included 14 previous hits (okay, there’s about 4 that didn’t really do super well) and their cover of “It’s My Life” which hit the billboard hot 100’s top ten.

I’m fucking stoked to see them!!!! Gwen Stefani has so much energy live, she’s a blast! The guys are great too!

GrayFox117 | 11/24/2008, 2:46 pm EST

Heard rumors about this a few month ago and to be honest, I’m kinda glad their getting back together. No Doubt was always one of my favorite bands from the mid ’90s. When you get tired of hearing the same stuff over and over, they always seem to come in and provide something refreshing. Besides, hot chickas that actually know how to rock are few and far between. Can’t wait to hear some new stuff from them.

Pskid | 11/24/2008, 1:58 pm EST

GOOD… No Doubt is/was way better than Gwen Stefani as a soloist!

Poindexter | 11/24/2008, 1:26 pm EST

I hope they go back to their early rock/ska roots and leave the dance tunes to Gwen’s solo efforts.

stupid me | 11/24/2008, 12:56 pm EST

sorry Anonymous,,,,just a failed attempt at humor,,,,,you are sooooo correct. “Don’t speak” does have a certain something. But, No Doubt still sucks. My main problem with them is that damned “Spider Web” song. Good God, what a piece of crap.

saad | 11/24/2008, 12:54 pm EST

finally

Nathan | 11/24/2008, 12:30 pm EST

That’s a show I’d go to, never saw them the first time around.

Anonymous | 11/24/2008, 12:10 pm EST

No Doubt had 5 top ten singles - they weren’t exactly one-hit wonders. I for one am looking forward to reliving my days as a 14 year old girl singing along to “Don’t Speak” on the radio.

Simple Math | 11/24/2008, 12:02 pm EST

Sublime>>>>>>No Doubt

Living Fiction | 11/24/2008, 11:59 am EST

Yikes! I love it when people take the time to post stright up mean shit. It’s hilarious. They must be so bored. Anyway, while No Doubt never really took over the world, they DO have some fun songs. Good luck, crew!

zee | 11/24/2008, 11:50 am EST

and this is news?? Oh Please… over-rated one hit (did they have A hit??? ) wonder…

stupid GKWoodward | 11/24/2008, 11:07 am EST

No Doubt totally sucks. Anonymous is very correct (even though he is an incredible douch),,,,,who cares about this stupid band, unless you are a 13 year old girl. You, your mom, and bambi can listen to crappy No Doubt all you want,,,,,the rest of us think No Doubt is nothing short of ear cancer. Just plain stupid.

GKWoodward | 11/24/2008, 10:53 am EST

One of the best bands of the 90s…let the good times roll I say!

Anonymous | 11/24/2008, 10:14 am EST

Who cares?? No Doubt was not even that good anyway. I say throw in the towel for good!
