Chicago is going through somewhat of a renaissance following the win for hometown hero Barack Obama. The Windy City is entering the race for the 2016 Summer Olympics, new skyscrapers are being erected and, most surprisingly, even Wilco frontman Jeff Tweedy seems happy. Tweedy, Obama’s “friend for years” and frequent performer on the rally circuit, told the New York TimesI think people really do enjoy the idea that we’re living in the center of the world all of the sudden. There have been all these prevailing stereotypes, and people don’t know how big and urban Chicago actually is. People think of it as being in a cornfield.” Tweedy also questions the so-called inferiority complex outsiders believe the “Second City” has as the Midwest conduit between New York and Los Angeles. Tweedy grew up in southern Illinois and makes his home in Chicago. No word which Tweedy would prefer though: a Chicago native in the White House or a Chicago Cubs World Series victory.

I can tell you one thing. Tweedy doesn’t prefer a Cubs World Series. He’s actually a Card’s fan.

Yeah, no way in hell he wants the Small Bears in the Fall Classic. He partied it up in 2006 when the Redbirds won it all (for the 10th time).

These things aren’t happening in the wake of Obama’s election: The Spire has been in the works for a couple years, just as has our longshot bid for the Olympics. It does seem people are perkier, although my daughter was born election night so it might be just me. Oh, and Obama’s a White Sox fan. As was Bernie Mac. John Cusack roots for whomever will put his mug on TV from the stands.

Cubs win the world series? Jeff is known to be an intelligent person the writer of this article obviously is not. Cubs, LOL. Jeff grew up 15 minutes away from Busch stadium and 6 hours away from Wrigley… dah.
