If you haven’t heard, Axl Rose has a big album coming out this weekend. Rose has been cagey about being interviewed recently, but luckily he and MTV were best buds during the Use Your Illusion era. The interview with Kurt Loder above (from a long-forgotten MTV show Famous Last Words) is incredible in a la plus ca change, la plus ca meme chose sort of way, as Loder announces that Use Your Illusion is supposed to be out in early 1991 (it didn’t come out until September — even in his youth, Axl was bad with deadlines). Other amazing things to note: Rose talks about meeting Prince; John Norris’ hair; Axl comparing 2 Live Crew to The Diary of Anne Frank; “Live and Let Die” being described as “Tom Waits meets Metallica” (which is perhaps the most inaccurate description of a song ever); Loder’s shirt that he probably bought from Chess King; Axl’s thoughts about the Bible. Enjoy this Axl-palooza, and follow the jump for parts two and three of the sit-down. As a special bonus, check out the audio from a Loder interview in 1999 for the release of “Oh My God,” where Axl assures the world that Chinese Democracy will be out next year.
