The Big News: Taylor Swift fought off other tween sensations David Archuleta and the Twilight soundtrack to grab the top spot, with her Fearless selling 592,000 copies to crush the competition. American Idol runner-up David Archuleta’s self-titled debut settled in at two with 183,000 albums in a debut-heavy week that found six new releases penetrating the top ten. Now! Volume 29 stole third place away from T-Pain’s Thr33 Ringz, with both releases surpassing the 100,000 sold mark. Last week’s top seller, the Twilight soundtrack, fell to fifth but is expected to rise again when the film hits theatres this Friday.

Debuts: Christina Aguilera’s Target-exclusive greatest hits collection Keeps Gettin’ Better claimed nine, Seal spilled his Soul at 13 and the Best of Now! That’s What I Call Music compilation grabbed 32. Further down the chart, the Smiths’ best-of took 98 and Jedi Mind Tricks and their History of Violence settled in at 169.

Last Week’s Heroes: With last week marking the beginning of the parade of huge fourth quarter album releases, the top ten was completely upended. The biggest victim of the debut stampede was Hinder’s Take It To The Limit, which descended from four to 16. Hinder’s sophomore album is way off the pace that helped their debut become triple platinum. Pink’s Funhouse and John Legend’s Evolver also found themselves out of the top 10 for the first time. With this week’s release of albums by David Cook, Beyonce and Nickelback, this weekend’s release of Chinese Democracy and Monday’s drop of Kanye West, the Killers and Ludacris, next week’s chart promises to be a royal rumble to win the number one.

Great Job David…you are awesome!!! Your Album is great and I am listening to it while I’m driving and at work…what a masterpiece.

To all the negative people out there - There are two ways that you can have the tallest building in a city, 1) by tearing other tall buldings down or 2) build ur own tallest building. I suggest that you do the latter.

If you think you know what good music is, go make an album and we’ll see how great the sales is. If not, just be happy for someone else’s success.

The people who criticize others are people with low self-image. If you are not happy with yourself, you can never be happy for somebody else.

Note that the two posters who are pissing and moaning about David A. are named “Crabass” and “The Graveyard”, respectively. Enough said!!!

The Graveyard | 11/19/2008, 4:36 pm EST

To fans of American Idol:

There has never been a major artist with career potential to come out of American Idol, and there never will, ever!

You are caught up in the drama of the show, not because the music is quality. If you think the AI-winners produce good music, you simply don’t know what good music is. It’s sad.

This is not ‘just my opinion’, it’s a fact. You’ve been conned. You’ve been had. You’ve been scammed.

Lady Bug | 11/19/2008, 3:16 pm EST

I knew David would come out on top inspite of the ridiculous reviews. His fans know what a truly amazing artist he is without a need for auto tune as many artist depend on these days. His live performances prove that his talent is authentic and not computer based. Congratulations to a true star.

Michelle | 11/19/2008, 1:57 pm EST

I am very proud of David Archuleta–he is a young and talented and proves you don’t have to be an American Idol winner to do really well in this day and age of music..reviews and critics will be there no matter what, his passion for music and his gift will carry him beyond the ridiculous press sometimes..anyhow, I don’t read the negative reviews anyhow, I go by what I like and the ones who trash what is good normally need to listen to the album before they put out a review anyhow.

Crabass | 11/19/2008, 1:24 pm EST

There’s nothing but crap taking over the music charts these days. And “Archie’s” new CD has been trashed by many reviewers but people are still buying it. Goes to show that many people out there are not much concerned about an artist’s talent and content, but are buying based on name recognition and popularity.

Joe | 11/19/2008, 12:56 pm EST

So happy for David Archuleta. Please, Axl and U2, save us.

go Archie! | 11/19/2008, 12:36 pm EST

Woo! I’m so impressed with Archie, come on, the boy is only 17, and it debuts at #2 woo!!!
I’m so proud of David!! this kid will be a super star, he is winning new fans everyday,

john | 11/19/2008, 12:26 pm EST

David Archuleta, #2, debut album with 183K is impressive. Congratulations! It’s just a beginning of a promising career.
