“Chinese Democracy” Leaker Changes Plea to Guilty

11/11/08, 9:02 am EST

The blogger who leaked nine songs from Guns N’ Roses’ Chinese Democracy has agreed to change his plea to guilty in a deal that will reduce the charges against him to a single federal count of copyright infringement, a Los Angeles prosecutor said. Under the deal, Kevin Cogill, the writer for the website Antiquiet who leaked the tracks back in June, will only face a maximum of one year in prison. Whether or not Cogill must reveal his source for the leaks as part of the deal has not been revealed. The plea bargain will bring to an end a tumultuous six months for Cogill. Following a visit from the FBI, Cogill told Rock Daily “If legal proceedings come my way, I’ll face them 100 percent.” “I’m not afraid of that. I did what I did, and I’ll face the music if I have to.” Chinese Democracy will finally be released in its finished form on November 23rd.

All comments on GnR and Axl’s inability to release “Chinese Democracy” in any timely fashion, is really rather irrelevant. Just about anyone with more than a casual understanding of how to get around the ‘net can find SOMETHING by GnR out there. Be it soundboard recordings from the 2002 tour to leaked tracks and demos. Axl probably has a team of folks who look for his stuff online. Some of it he can remove (and does). Other stuff, well let’s just say there is plenty of free stuff out there if you know where to look. Axl’s talent (or perceived lack thereof) is really not the question or issue here. Nor is the timeliness of the release. What is the bottom line here is someone got caught leaking something that had been leaked to him. Furthermore, he is far from the only one “leaking” material from this album AND he is willing to do the time for his crime. That and the imminent release of the album pretty much make this a non-issue.

big breaking news... | 11/15/2008, 5:35 pm EST

big story about to break: superfly is in talks with guns n’ roses to headline bonnaroo 2009. for the other headliner slots they are between coldplay, stevie wonder, jay-z, the dead, and widespread panic. booking gnr could be a big risk with how unreliable axl can be, but this could also be the type of act to further cement bonnaroo as the main festival.

Axel is not as talented as he thinks he is, if it takes 15 years to make an album. It should of been leaked 14 years ago…

stupid Guns and Roses | 11/11/2008, 10:50 am EST

Guns and Roses suck. They should be lucky that anyone would want to listen to their crappy music. Screw them. And as far as suing a fan for “leaking”,,,he was doing the band a favor,,,,they were to damn stupid to release this stupid album in any kind of timely fashion,,,,,just plain stupid Guns and Roses.

It’s fuckin stupid. If they’re going after him, then they need to go after the other million people who have leaked shit early. Fuck the legal system. Let’s screw only this person over and overlook everyone else.
