Christina Aguilera Looks Forward to “Futuristic” New Album

Christina Aguilera is closing the year looking forward and looking back. As she prepares to release her first greatest hits package, the singer is planning a new album she describes as “futuristic,” with collaborations with the forward-looking Sia, Goldfrapp and Ladytron. “There’s no holds barred for anything,” Aguilera says. “It’s really the future and can go anywhere. It’s exciting to challenge myself in that way and explore.”

She expects to enter the studio in January with Sia, the eclectic Australian pop singer and sometime collaborator with the atmospheric group Zero 7. “Her voice has a really cool sound to it. It’s really gritty and unique,” says Aguilera. “I’m not exactly sure what we’re going to get when we go into a studio together. There’s probably magic to be had.”

Until then, fans can hear two new Aguilera songs on Keeps Gettin’ Better — A Decade of Hits, which is being released exclusively through Target stores and Target.com. The new tracks — “Keeps Gettin’ Better” and “Dynamite” — are joined by updated re-recordings of the hits “Genie in a Bottle” and an electronic-flavored “Beautiful.” It marks a dramatic shift from 2006’s retro Back to Basics album, which focused on more of a blues, jazz, and soul vibe.

“I feel fortunate enough at 27 years old to be release a greatest hits record, and I’m very proud of the work that I’ve been able to do, and all the changes that I’ve made both visually and musically over the years,” Aguilera says, noting that she’s still “not really able to wrap my head around it. I’ve just begun my career.”

She has also kept busy with a new baby and involvement with Rock the Vote, which featured a get-out-the-vote PSA with Aguilera and her son, Max, swaddled in an American flag. But her career remains in full-swing, without apology. In the song “Keeps Gettin’ Better,” she openly refers to herself as both a “super-girl” and a “super-bitch.”

“I’m running a business,” she says, “and sometimes being the boss of your own empire and creation, you have to be assertive. Being a female, that comes with being labeled a ‘bitch’ and given titles that men wouldn’t receive. But if that’s what I’m going to be called by being assertive and knowing who I am and what I want out of life, so be it. I wear that label proudly.”

Christina is a great artist, she is focused and a professional. It is great to see an artist let her work make the cover of magazines, instead of the drama others create in their life’s to stay in the limelight. I enjoy this new cd, great remake of “Gennie in the bottle” and love “keep getting better”.

Christina is one of the best artists out there on the market. We have heard some great music and I believe the best is yet to come! I have complete faith in her and the direction in which she is headed!

Nick | 11/11/2008, 7:54 am EST

She is one of the best artists I have seen. With such a high vocal range and great talents she is able to sing all sorts of songs with ease. All the best Christina

Emmie | 11/11/2008, 8:03 am EST

She is a really blessed artist with a four octave vocal range and brimming confidence. She is the most confident person I have seen on stage. No wonder she has five grammy awards to her credit. When singers like Jennifer lopez couldn’t manage a single grammy award even after being in the industry for so many years,Aguilera had done a great job I must say.Her songs are nice as well as meaningful.

Rocio | 11/11/2008, 8:14 am EST

She has incredible talents, she is beautiful, she is confident, she is clever enough to handle the paparazzi. She is the package.I wonder how many singers are getting nightmares because of her.

Nathan | 11/11/2008, 2:51 pm EST

Saw her on the Back to Basics tour, easily one of the most enjoyable pop shows I’ve ever seen, great production value! I’m a fan.

nuttyass | 11/11/2008, 3:38 pm EST

Everytime I see her, she looks completely different. Doesn’t even look like the same chick. Having said that, she’s BY FAR the best woman vocalist out there. Seriously brilliant singer. I’m not that wild about all of her ‘hits’ but there’s no denying that voice. It’s an amazing instrument.

Je$$e | 11/11/2008, 3:57 pm EST

booorring!!! pop music sucks…go watch american idol..

brownsvillestation | 11/11/2008, 4:32 pm EST

There’s more to music than vocal acrobatics, but I will agree she has a great voice…

lordbean | 11/11/2008, 5:57 pm EST

I think Xtina has an incredible voice, but she often picks songs that are bad. The latest single (I forget the name already) isn’t good at all. Sorry, it’s the truth.

brett | 11/11/2008, 9:12 pm EST

Yeah, she’s good. But she’s only doing what many sistas have been doing in churches for the past lord knows how many centuries. I can think of plenty of current female vocalists who can out-sing her, though they’re not blonde and blue-eyed. Leela James, for example. Girl friend can sing!

peruvian | 11/11/2008, 9:43 pm EST

pop sux
u gotta hear that real hiphop shit
fuck yall
get down with dat snoop shit
mofos yall listenin bullshit by cristina tha beeyatch

lalaebony | 11/12/2008, 8:54 am EST

She can sing , not better than Afrikan-Amerikan sistas (Lelah Hathaway, Whitney Houston, Beyonce, Jill Scott, Miriam Makeba). Aguilera wears contacts and is arrogant~angry and needs a spiritual overhaul. hotep

Jasmine | 11/12/2008, 8:44 pm EST

Christina quite frankly is rather annoying. The constant gimmicks she displays shows that she isn’t comfortable enough in her own skin and that translates in her music.

She’s not an artist but rather a mere overrated singer. There is no passion just a lot of shouting and screeching ( her take on James Brown – Grammy performance). I will admit that some of her music is good but overall? Not so much.

Marty | 11/12/2008, 11:01 pm EST

Christina has a wonderful voice!!!
She has a set of pipes and can hold her own. Voice has no color – Bottom line- the woman CAN DEFINITELY SING!!!!

Jordan | 11/13/2008, 1:08 am EST

Ladytron and Goldfrapp collaborations sound very exciting. It could be the equivalent of Sinead O’Connor’s work with Massive Attack on their “100th Window” record. Xtina’s got a powerful voice and I think she’s headed in the right artistic direction.

Amy | 11/13/2008, 1:49 am EST

Christina Aguilera is amazing. She write’s her own music and can sing incredible. She is hot, and can pull of the extreme. All of her songs has some meaning which people can relate to, and can enjoy more on another level, like myself. I saw her perform live and i was completely satisfied and entertained the whole time.I have loved her since the beginning of her career, and im sure i will continue loving her as a musician in the following years to come:)

i love how she copied lady gaga then acts like she doesn’t know who that is. a smart “business” woman would know the competition and not have to copy anyone. lazy move.
she is tired and no one cares about her anymore.

britney | 11/13/2008, 5:32 pm EST

christina is a loser

Melanie | 11/13/2008, 6:10 pm EST

Christina is amazing!! She is a wonderful artist who loves making great music and keeping it fresh and exciting.

xtina ex-fan | 11/14/2008, 4:18 am EST

Is it me or nobody really cares about this chick anymore?

David Berger | 11/14/2008, 7:32 pm EST

In the new Rolling Stone, Xtina makes the list of 100 greatest singers. Thus, while she might not be on a par with Aretha Franklin(who is?), Madonna and Britney Spears are not even on the list. Yes, Xtina is very sexy, but she does have genuine talent.

jordan | 11/15/2008, 12:33 am EST

no one cares about her. she is a bitch and she is dark and nasty on the inside. she is lumpy too.
lady gaga is soooooo much more interesting.

dj blurry | 11/15/2008, 3:08 am EST

thats cool but how does she feel about being a skank ?

KEMBA | 11/15/2008, 3:51 pm EST

There are way to many haters out there. Don’t you have a life?

KEMBA | 11/15/2008, 3:55 pm EST

Any one who is a fan of music, would appreciate that their artists changes things up. But maybe too many of us just like hating. Too many of us with too much time to throw at hating others. Take a look at where the other four fingers are pointing when you point one at someone.

lo | 11/17/2008, 12:22 am EST

We love Tina she has a wonderful talent… keep doing your thing christina, I love the cd. can’t wait for her next album.

Randy | 11/17/2008, 1:55 am EST

Christina isn’t too convincing as a super bitch. Could she play Louise Fletcher’s role in One Flew over the Cuckoos Nest? The world needs her optimism and positivity.

Cristi | 12/1/2008, 3:38 pm EST

if you ain’t got nothing nice to say then don’t say nothing at all…i think she is a great artists…she cahnged a lot over the past years but still i love her songs she is still the same person

Cristina | 12/1/2008, 3:41 pm EST

if you dont like her music ok then keep that to yaself dont be callin her no names n shyt…she doesnt deserve that so if you dont like her dont worry bout others likeing her songs

walter | 12/2/2008, 5:58 am EST

she is just about the best thing that has happened to the music scene because she knows how to keep it real, she has inspired millions of her generations and doings in life if only people would except her for the true artist she is they will come to understand what true music is all about, not the crap that they play now a days on the radio from phoneys such as pussycat dolls, rihanna, katey perry and such and as for lady googo she should crawl right back into the pitt from hells abbyss from which she crawled and ass for all you people that dissed her on this site you just jealous that her talent kicks the shit out of all your fony artists and laelabonys sistas a like.ROCK ON GIRL YOU STILL GOT MILLIONS SUPPORTING YOU!!!!!XTINA FOREVER

Suzi | 12/6/2008, 11:09 am EST

I’m not that into today’s pop music, although I like a catchy tune.

I do like Christina though because I think she’s a strong woman with a great voice who doesn’t take any crap. She spurns drama and focuses on the music and her family. Have to respect that.

sasha | 12/29/2008, 12:45 pm EST

Christina is the best. She has the best voice on planet earth. Its really funny to see people saying “they don’t care about her anymore”.Why the hell did they come to this webpage then.Browsing about Christina and reading her stuff is probably their idea of not bothering about her.

probably you guys are pink fans or Beyonce fans. But that will not change the truth that she is the best singer alive.People know it but its just hard for them to admit it.go Christina!!!!!

Maria | 12/29/2008, 12:53 pm EST

Christina is one of the very few singers who can actually sing without the aid of voice editing tools. She has 5 grammys in 9 years of career.Mariah Carey has 5 grammys in 20 years of career.Madonna has 7 in 25 years of career.Jennifer Lopez has nothing,no grammys.Pink has 2 grammys though she started before Christina. So who is the best.If you say Christina is not a good singer either you don’t know anything about music or you don’t want her to be the best. She is the undisputed queen of pop.

Brandon | 12/30/2008, 10:57 pm EST

dont wanna compare but mariah have other awards aside grammys and its more than a hundred.

and for the record christina is always great with her range of voice and the abillity to create a fuss “in the song” which is uniquely great!

but i hope she will change her habit of OVERDOING a tune of a song! hope so..

NOTE: never compare legend/s to a starter.

Lee | 2/20/2009, 11:51 am EST

Move over Madonna, Christina is the new Queen of Pop!

Lee | 2/20/2009, 11:53 am EST

Christina is truly talented and gorgeous. Move over Madonna, Christina is the new Queen of Pop!

Selina | 2/27/2009, 11:18 am EST

Christina is a true legend, someone who is going to be remembered for a long time. She is well deserved the heir to Madonna’s Queen Pop of Throne. She‘s the best …Go Christina!!!

JD | 3/6/2009, 5:00 am EST

Queen of Pop???
C’mon that thrown has already been claimed by britney spears…….YEARS AGO. i’m a fan of both, i think christina is more vocally talented but i think thats as far as she goes. i dont see the comparison between christina and madonna, if you asked me madonna was never that talented, she has a pretty good voice and good hits. christina has had few if any really big hits but has way more talent than madonna. i think its safe to say madonna and britney spears are one in the same.. like “the kiss” as far as some people know christina wasnt even there

Josh | 3/11/2009, 12:11 pm EST

i love that Christina Aguilera has changed her direction and reinvented her musical tone and style rather than working with Timbaland (which is who she wanted to make a record with before the release of her greatest hits but deemed it that ‘everyone has collaborated with him)as Nelly,Justin,Rihanna and even Madonna have done over the last two years.
here Xtina will give more energy to her amazing career and hopefully will create a great album filled to the brim with epic songs like Stripped and (my fave) Back To basics.
with a futuristic edge and great production from Goldfrapp,Ladytron and Sia, while also contributiing and collaborating with the amazing Lind Perry.
Britney did a great job with the recent Blackout and Circus albums, but christina has the will power to make her 4th outing epic and global.
this could bring her back into the spotlight.
definitely one of the greatest singers around.
each album so far has been totally different and this 4th outing is the most anticipated this year…summer isn’t too far away, will pre-order soon:).
her greatest hits was fabulous and i love the song Dynamite, and the style was very comic book and camp which i loved.
enter new-wave Christina.

stripperella | 3/15/2009, 6:33 am EST

SHE’S THE NEW QUEEN, NOT OF POP, QUEEN OF MUSIC!!!!!!!!!!!!

Floyd | 3/15/2009, 7:30 pm EST

Queen of Pop. SHE rocks my world.

Tabitha | 3/21/2009, 4:31 pm EST

Christina is on her way to becoming one of the greatest icons of our generation!! This girl was raised to be a pop star. I’m always blown away by the fresh approach Christina takes with her music. I’m definitely looking forward to her new album and tour! It should be good!

Silvia | 3/23/2009, 3:21 pm EST

Christina is an amazing singer. She does a great job at putting out music that I like and makes good videos. Also her style is fabulous. I can’t wait for her futuristic album to drop!

jon | 4/7/2009, 2:26 pm EST

Christina has no original ideas of her own.

She reinvents herself every album because Madonna has done it, Christina is trying to make her career last.

Christina has a superb voice but if it weren’t for Madonna this girl would have no ideas. Shame she cannot stand on her own and come up with her own creations and not steal from Madonna’s example. This album being ‘futuristic’ – didn’t Madonna do that with Ray of Light?

xxxtina | 4/17/2009, 1:46 am EST

I like how “lalaebony” says Christina is not as good of as singers as beyonce because she is not AFRIKAN-AMERICAN, well just an fyi WHO TOLD YOU BEYONCE COULD SING? she is just a pretty black girl with a weave on that has to come out with an album every other weekend so people can still remember her, while christina can take 3 years to come out with an album and still sell 1 million copies her first week.

Adrian | 4/26/2009, 9:30 pm EST

Christina is the brain and beauty of our generation.

you got soul, you got class, you got style with your bad ass…ain’t no other girl but you!!!

Nory | 4/28/2009, 9:47 pm EST

Christina is beautiful; talented; angelic voice; unique; best dressed. She’s amazing and I wish her all the best this year. When her album comes out I will rush out to buy it.

Nikkia | 5/4/2009, 11:43 am EST

She can be called the Queen of Pop and Queen of Music. She has the heart, the lungs and the desire to back it up. I wish her the best.

Casey | 5/12/2009, 8:36 pm EST

I totally love her and can’t wait for her to slowly get back into the public eye again. I miss her! I can’t wait until her album comes out because I am getting it :) .

Moon | 6/16/2009, 3:31 pm EST

Can’t wait 4 this album. She’s the complete package. I just love her to bits because she is sexy, fun to watch & listen and to read about. Christina 4EVER!

Kevin | 6/24/2009, 4:23 am EST

LOL. Poor Christina been to rehab, does drugs, had a divorce, been arrested, has to raise 2 kids on her own, and flashed her vaj in public. & Britney has a stable life, has a better voice, and writes more meaningful music. =( OOPS, OTHER WAY AROUND. HAHA. CAN’T WAIT FOR THE NEW ALBUM!

pedro | 8/31/2009, 8:20 pm EST
