• More on Wii Music: Nintendo Mastermind Mutates Music Games
What It Is: The next wave of music video games, with a focus on interactivity and improvisation.
Who It’s For: People who wants their music virtual but feel alienated by the sometimes complicated Guitar Hero revolution.
Why It’s Worthy: On the surface, Wii Music seems like a lightweight cartoon of a game, but it’s one of those experiences where ten minutes turns into a four hour rabbit hole. The main jam mode lets you create tracks with up to six different instruments (either alone or with friends), with each instrument requiring a different type of movement with the Wii remote and nunchuk. Once you record, you can design album covers and share videos online. There is also a lesson mode and a freestyle mode that lets you play freely, with the highlight being the drum kit that utilizes the Wii Fit Board as a foot pedal.
Our Only Complaint: With all the Rush and Guns N’ Roses tracks on the other games, it sometimes feels difficult getting really into jamming on “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.” But as more songs are unlocked, geeks will freak out at the ability to play the theme song to The Legend of Zelda.
Cost/Where to Get It: $49.99; more info at Nintendo’s official site.
