Genesis are hoping to reunite once again, however this time with Peter Gabriel back in the lead. Genesis recently reunited to to pay homage to the Phil Collins years, but with a box set of Gabriel era reissues due out, the band hopes to bring the “Sledgehammer” singer back in the fold. “We’ve never said never about it, you know,” Genesis keyboardist Tony Banks told Billboard. “I know Phil (Collins) would be quite happy with the idea of just playing the drums; it would be quite fun for him. Mike (Rutherford) and I are certainly happy to do it. I know Steve (Hackett) is keen as well. I think it’d be down to Peter (Gabriel) more than anyone else.” It was Gabriel who first had the idea of a Genesis reunion back in 2004, when he wanted the group to play its prog classic The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway in a live setting. When Genesis finally did reunite, Gabriel changed course instead, opting to work on a solo album. “I think we should do this before one of us dies; we’re not getting any younger, to quote one of the songs, so maybe one day it’ll happen,” Steve Hackett said of a reunion.

Yes, indeed. Genesis has to do it before one of them dies. And this goes out to GnR, too. Look at The Police, at least they’re fulfilled persons, financially and nostalgically…

tincatdream | 11/4/2008, 3:19 pm EST

peter gabriel and billy joel are morphing into the same person.

Mark in Jersey | 11/4/2008, 7:18 pm EST

will they sound as good as their newly morphed band The Musical Box…I’d love to find out.Tall order

NotMozart | 11/4/2008, 7:32 pm EST

Do it. At least the Genesis guys get along for the most part. And I could give a crap about Chinese Democracy, unless Axl, Slash, Izzy, and Duff are together, it ain’t Guns n Roses. But I would definitely be down for a ticket to a true Genesis reunion. Make it happen, lads.

OMG—-Genesis with Phil Collins is what people care about. Who, but die-hard fans would go see this concert? There is no way they would sell out Giants Stadium! They became more successful with Phil at the mike! What are they thinking?

ZAx | 11/4/2008, 8:22 pm EST

Geez,Rob.They would not be doing it for the moola that’s for sure. maybe some of us would like that old stuff.

jimbro | 11/4/2008, 9:37 pm EST

genisis with peter gabriel would be fantastic!good to see the art band as opposed to the pop band.

FoxTrot | 11/5/2008, 1:40 am EST

Please Pete-Make this happen!

l-p | 11/5/2008, 8:50 am EST

Don’t quote me on that but I think the Beatles want to reunite with Pete Best for a show….

Nmar | 11/5/2008, 10:35 am EST

I think this would be a great reunion. I saw Genesis last year at Nationwide Arena when they did the Phil Collins years, GREAT Visual show and a great concert, this would be really cool. Better then Ded Zeppelin’s possible reunion without Robert Plant.

I know what I like and I like what I know. I was too young to see them in their top prog days, but I grew up with the albums and trying to emulate Tony Banks’ virtuousity. And when the tour bus heads out, let’s not forget Chester Thompson!

I can claim to be probably one of the bands oldest fans, followed them since the early days, seen many of their concerts with both Gabriel and Phil, both are brilliant in their own ways. I will be in 7th heaven if this becomes reality.
Phil Collins apparently is losing his hearing so he needs to do this sooner than later and Peter Gabriel was at his best with Genesis so it would be good for both of them not to mention fantastic for us die hard Genesis fans!

composer2 | 11/6/2008, 8:13 am EST

Peter, Please? It was great music you guys gave us, and great shows too. I promise to bring my bass-playing son. Come on, he deserves it!

Ya know…I bought that three Cd Genesis, Platinum Hits collection and discovered the PETER GABRIEL disc era to be their most fascinating. I remember hearing some of that music when I was a kid, but, back then, it didn’t register. NOW it sounds indescribably delicious! I prefer it over the Collins era. Can’t wait for the Gabriel reissues, and a tour would be great!

J | 11/6/2008, 11:26 am EST

If they do this, then I can die happy.

tincatdream, wash your mouth out with soap! Billy Joel isn’t fit to wash Peter Gabriel’s socks.

Genesis deserve an article(like Rush)in RollingStone magazine or maybe even a cover feature.Only Phil Collins and Peter Gabriel by themselves were on the covers in the eighties but never the whole band.Genesis also deserve to be in the rock hall of fame.

boatman | 11/7/2008, 8:41 pm EST

It might be problematic with Phil at the drumstool. Folks would clamour for him to sing a few numbers.
Genesis made better albums with Peter but better singles with Phil.

Ken in Michigan | 11/9/2008, 8:19 pm EST

Love everything Peter Gabriel’s done since Genesis, and Genesis has put out some good music since Peter Gabriel, but the Genesis music of Peter Gabriel’s days is irrelevent and has not survived the test of time.

Sun-Ra | 11/10/2008, 6:21 am EST

I would love for the Peter Gabriel-era Genesis to reunite! Those albums are so brilliant, so progressive and so beautiful. Sure, Phil Collins is a great singer and so on, but for the hard core fans this would be one of the bigger events this millennium.

overmatik | 11/10/2008, 12:37 pm EST

I mean, I love Genesis 1969 – 1975, but if they will reunite let them reunite for music itself. Who Peter Gabriel thinks he is. If it’s not for the pleasure of playing, then to h**l with Gabriel and let us listen to this amazing Boxset!

TheVariousArtist | 11/10/2008, 2:20 pm EST

I was at the last reunion that involved Peter Gabriel at the helm, with the “modern day Genesis” in support. It was 1982 at the Milton Keynes Bowl, and it was fantastic. I chose my words carefully above when I described the band as “support”. Peter still made those old classics come alive and the I realized halfway through that i had not taken my eye off of him. I love post-Gabriel Genesis too, but there was something special about him up front — and absolutely fabulous to have Phil play drums throughout. And to see Steve Hackett, who was massively underrated in what he brought to the sound and style of Genesis (just listen to what happened after Steve left), would make this the perfect reunion…

TjValion68 | 12/1/2008, 2:13 pm EST

Adding Genesis to the “Rock and Roll” hall of fame would be an insult to the members of Genesis! Have you seen a list of members in “The Hall”? What a joke! Bob Seger, Madonna, and two billion “bubble-gum” musicians. Thanks, but no thanks! The “Rock and Roll Hall of Fame” is purely about who kisses the owners ass the most. If it was a real Rock hall of fame, bands like Genesis, ELP, Pink Floyd, Yes would have been on the first few ballots.

rob nuckols | 12/6/2008, 8:50 pm EST

i have got my hope up to many times, when i heard that peter never went to any of the 2007 genesis shows i felt he still has some kind of major hang up in his head, the 07 tour did a nice bit in there show on him ,if you seen the show,im not buying any more old genesis stuff, dont want to get my hopes up any more ,hey peter shit or get off the pot!

Laurel_Eclipse_Chaser | 12/7/2008, 6:54 pm EST

I REALLY hope Peter and Steve agree to a Genesis reunion. If they don’t play in North America I will have no choice but fly half way around the planet to see them in England.

Dave A | 12/14/2008, 3:04 am EST

I saw the original band twice in the 70s. Was so impressed with their approach to song form in a classical setting (sonata, rondo, even baroque with a 9/8 meter pasacalia!) I hope they reunite. The lamb tour was wonderful and the first early Phil tours were also nice. SUPPERS READY for all of us and the blue girls!!!

Raelfan | 1/5/2009, 7:20 pm EST

peter gabriel should do a reunion! coming up with new stuff? He hasn’t made a decent album/song in 15 years. i’m a big Fan but this techno sounding garbage he’s creating is just self absorbed garbage… Get back to the real stuff Pete!

Dina | 2/25/2009, 1:15 pm EST

I saw Genesis back in the days and was one of the most bueatiful experience I had in my life, I hope they get togheter again, they’re fenomenal

Greg | 2/25/2009, 8:37 pm EST

In my personal oppinion, Genesis was much better during the Phil Collins era. They were better off without him, and he was better off without them. They don’t need Gabriel, especially if he’s going to hold it up like this. Peter Gabriel should keep to solo tours, and Genesis should keep Phil Collins their leader.
