U2 are the latest victims of the worldwide financial crisis as the construction of a tower that was supposed to house the band’s studio in Dublin has been suspended. Any work on the building, which would have been the largest in Ireland, has been delayed for 12 months due to “uncertainty in the property and financial markets.” U2 had planned on suspending an egg-shaped pod atop the tower as their home studio. “The objective is to see this landmark project completed,” the Dublin Docklands Development Authority said. “However, given the current unfavorable economic environment, more time is needed at this juncture.” Meanwhile, Jay-Z and the basketball team he co-owns, the New Jersey Nets, were also affected by the recession, as the team’s planned move to an arena in Brooklyn is looking less and less likely.
