With Election Day tomorrow, the Drive-By Truckers’ Patterson Hood has revealed a new song up for free download in hopes of inspiring fans to vote Obama. “Uncle Phil and Aunt Phyllis In The Month After The Election” was written in the week following the 2004 election. “I was in a state of semi-shock and near-depression as my daughter’s birth was impending and I was depressed to think of her born into the world during a Bush Presidency,” writes Hood. The song features Hood’s father David, the founder of the Muscle Shoals Sound Studio, on bass. “I am throwing this out as my election week gift to you,” Hood said. “I will be voting for Obama because I think he has the guts, vision judgment and smarts to guide us through these troubled times and help America regain her prominence in the 21st century.” The song is currently streaming at the group’s MySpace page, or you can download the track below.
