I’m tired of people saying that they’re the only ones who knew about songs and they get angry when someone else likes it. What the heck is that all about. That’s pretty big headed of anybody to think that they’re the only ones who have the right to listen to certain songs. I say, good job apple corp for putting the music of the beatles into something so mainstream. That’s what music these days needs more of. Hopefully this will inspire a kid to learn more about the music and tell his friends then those friends tell more friends and then all those friends seek richer forms or music in the process. I can’t wait for the game.

I think its a cool idea. When they were all alive The Beatles had no problems with tv shows, lunchboxes, stick figures… you name it. If there were videogames back then, Im sure one would’ve come out.

i agree with josh, hopefully these kids will be inspired to pick up a real guitar and quit the video games. Who knows what music we could be getting from these younger guys if they are hearing bands like the beatles at an early age. It will only encourage them to listen to more music from that era and that can only be a good thing for rock music. Some of the music today is bland and boring and theres no better band to be influenced by than the songwriting genius of the beatles.

The more Beatles that kids are exposed to, the less chance they will think Nickeback/Buckcherry/Blink182 are good bands. So I’m all for it. And I doubt Lennon is turning in his grave…I think he’ll be wondering what his cut is.

You must remember that The Beatles pioneered all of this stuff – they were the first truly marketed rock band. Also the first rock band to make movies and of course they invented the music video…so my only question is why did it take so long to get a video game!!!

The Beatles recorded some songs for Let It Be before they recorded Abbey Road, but after Abbey Road was released they still recorded more songs for Let It Be.
So, technically Let It Be was the last recorded Beatles album.

uh, actually Alex you are completely incorrect. Let it be was completed in it’s raw form many months before the recording of Abbey road. The album was shelved and only after all 4 Beatles agreed to it (post break up might I add) Phil spector added his famed wall of sound. *check out Let it be Naked… or any good bootleg from that era. No further recordings were done by the Beatles for that album.

I disagree with all the people saying the Beatles or other bands should not be in video games because that would ruin their value. I believe video games is just another medium for people to discover music in which they would otherwise never hear, which i think is great. Music is music no matter what form you put it into. The more people hear it, the better.

A video game that needs to be made for challenging the more serious rockers to keep up with would be from the band “RUSH!!!” (along with their percussion)That would be great.

This really upsets me. I feel like the Beatles music will now be cheapened. Now everyone will be a “die-hard” Beatles fan until the next rockband comes out.

Ringo doesn’t want any fan mail, he’ll throw it in the dumper with peace and love, but he sure don’t mind making yet another buck from those same fans. So that means most of the “input” for this game will come from McCartney. I really don’t care what Yoko, Olivia, or “The Least Talented Beatle” say as far as their input.

Finally, a game with only good music! I’m tired of Beastie Boys and KISS and Aerosmith and all the other crap they put in these games!

Actually, according to the recording guide I have, Abbey Road was recorded after Let it Be, but was releases first — BUT, the song I Me Mine off Let It Be was recorded after Abbey Road, featuring only George, Paul and Ringo (John had left). It was the last, technically, Beatles recording session — it was done b/c the group had dabbled with the song in the film, but didn’t actually record it. So, when the producers left the dabbling in the final cut of the film, Capitol thought the song needed to be on the ’soundtrack.’

And I hate the idea of a Beatles video game.

Today’s music is complete garbage. If this company does a good job telling the full beatles story from beatlemania through their trip out east and inspiring charles manson and their magical mystery tour/sgt. peppers years at least kids will have an appreciation for how the beatles shaped the history of music.

Love or hate their music, what should piss off most true beatles fans is that most kids today don’t know anything about them other than that their grandparents were around when they came out and that they made a ton of cash.

Let’s give the game a chance and see what happens.

There is none better than The Beatles. I don’t like their music being used in commercials, but using it in this way doesn’t really bother me, especially if it’s done in the way they’ve described. To introduce a young person to their music in a way that’s fun for both them and their parents and grandparents can only be a good thing. I like the fact that it will span their career (although the Hamburg years would have been a great start…)
The Beatles can either be treated the way many in my generation viewed ‘classical’ music (i.e. enjoyed by old people who hated rock and roll) or they can be kept alive in new ways as technologies and tastes change.

I am just as big a Beatles fan as any of you but please stop canonizing them. People look back now as if they were untouchable gods but keep in mind that they were quite the sell-outs, penning cliched AABA love songs and appearing on TV shows, etc. in their early days. Prior to Revolver/Sgt. Pepper, they were a boy band targeting girls. Something like this game is not really out of the realm of what they would’ve done in the 60s.

Actually, Apple HAS remastered the catalog. Why releasing the video game is considered a higher priority by the company than getting out the new CDs is one big f…ing mystery. I mean this is the 40th Anniversary of The White Album, Hey Jude and the Apple label itself, and they decide to give us a monopoly game and a video game????

I don’t understand how one can love the Beatles’ music and not love the idea of this music in a video game. Rock Band and Guitar Hero encourage knowledge about music, and someone who both listens to the music and plays the game will have more perspective than someone who only listens to the music.

I think this will be a great way to spread the Beatles music to a new audience. So what if it makes people who can play Beatles fans…maybe those people hadn’t ever heard a good selection of their catalog. Maybe they’ve just heard their poppy, boy-band (someone mentioned Jonas brothers), sell-outey first few albums and dismissed them as such. All you big fans act as if the Beatles aren’t big sell outs…remember the whole “Paul is Dead” marketing ploy just to boost record sales. Just because you like the music doesn’t mean others can’t enjoy it. It’s not sacred, it’s music and it’s meant to be shared amunst the world.

And BTW: I think everybody knows (and knew) what “Cherub Rock” is…do you and your friends live in a tiny town or a cave? Do you ever listen to the radio? That song is still in rotation on our local alternative and rock stations.

I own all of the Beatles’ music (even the rare Christmas albums and the different releases of various albums) and all I can say is that I can’t wait to play the game. It should be exciting. Yes, it is very special music and no I can’t play any instrument well enough but I would definitely enjoy playing along with the Beatles and maybe some day have enough money to get some real instruments and actually learn how to play it for real. Oh yea, did I mention that I’m 21? I’m not a 50+ y.o. person that actually grew up with them and I know plenty of people who are the same way as me that are my age. But that’s besides the point. I can’t wait to play!

I don’t understand why some fans don’t like the idea of making a Beatles game. I think it’s a great idea! Kids today need to hear good music and not get sucked into the whole Jonas Brothers and Hannah Montana music fads, and the only real way to do it is to expose them to legendary musicians like the Beatles!

I’m 18 and was raised on classic rock, and I think it’s a shame that some of you don’t want the game to be made just because you don’t want teens to like them. The whole point of music is for people to enjoy and appreciate it, and none of you have any right to deny teenagers the chance to listen or play these songs.

FINALLY! I’ve been itching to play Helter Skelter since I first popped GH into my PS2… On a side note, I’m tired of people hating on “young kids likeing the music just because of GH.” Isn’t it better for the generation to learn and love the music, than it would be for them to fall into the horrid High School Musical blackhole thats slowing eatting the youth?

I can’t believe how angry some people are. Music is made to be shared with the world, not for secret “gold mines”. If the music is good, it should be heard. Now that there is technology to make hearing this music an even better experience, it should be shared as such. Just my two cents.

What’s wrong with getting some Beatles’ classics out to new fans. As said before, music is all about people to hear and distribute. The Beatles aren’t doing this for the money, because Ringo is a very accomplished musician, Paul is the greatest selling musician of all-time (fact, not opinion), and the other 2 are dead (with lots of love John and George). Let some kids listen and become Beatles fans for themselves, don’t deny them because they aren’t as old as you.

If they want to make a beatles game make it really complete and include the anthology albums even carnival of light.

i think this is a great idea for a band like the beatles to be put in a video game like rock band. My 10 and 12 year old kids love Rock Band and love the Beatles. This is a great way to expose the music of the Beatles to a new generation. Rock Band is great for getting kids to develop their rhythmic skills if the wish to pursue a real musical intrument at a later time. Kids love it. I look forwards to getting the Beatles version for them when its released.

Im 24 and grew up with the beatles cause my parents always listened to good music. And with this my mom thinks its not only smart but will appeal to people her age, she likes playing Rock Band but finds that theres always a bunch of songs she hates. And I mean games like these are just another way for bands to make money and get there music out, there isnt many people going out and just buying CDs that market is dieing and almost dead so you gotta find other ways to get your stuff out there.
For me playing Rock Band is firstly about having a good time and secondly about doing good in the game. Well in fact thats what all video games are and should be.
I have all the beatles albums and will be happy to get this game and play the hell out of it and have fun doing it.

I cannot even begin to elaborate on how excited I am to hear this news. At 22 years of age I grew up on the Beatles. Being a Daddy’s girl left me no alternative. I don’t understand why some people are displeased by the news- it’s a great new ‘venue’ for the Beatles to preform! Introduce them to a younger generation and delight those of us who’ve already learned the joys of Beatle Music. Who hasn’t heard “Hey Jude” And found themselves doing all the “Na, Na, Na”s? Granted, it might be a little slower than some of the other RockBand games – but I still see much replay value.

The Beatles have outsold the top 100 heavy metal bands combined. Paul McCartney has outsold them as well. So when you say that other bands deserve better. This is a money sport with the Beatles Harmonix stands to make hundreds of millions more than if they had metallica or some other noise generating bullshit of anger. The problem with Metal is that they all go lame in just a few years or OD.

Listen to Helter Skelter or Yer Blues or Revolution. Then you get the idea of where heavy metal originated.

Clarification on Beatles sales:
170 million units does get them first place, but that is only 42 mil more than 2nd place Garth, an that is with a 30 year head start over Mr. Brooks. It only takes 4 of the top metal/hard rock artist to top that as metallica puts up 58 million by themselves with only 9 studio albums compared to Beatles 13 plus 20 year headstart.

And as for top selling album, well sorry, that goes to the Eagles. Beatles come in 9th, behind great albums such as Zepplin IV and Back in Black.
You have to dig deep down the list to find McCartney

The last album to actually be released was indeed Let It Be, but the last album recorded was Abbey Road. Let It Be sessions occured before Abbey Road bu they werent released until the following year of 1970.

First off, I wanted to say that at first I hated the idea of a Beatles Rock Band. I loved the Beatles too much to see that happen. Then, I realized that it would introduce the younger people in the world to the best music this world’s ever seen. I’ve read a lot of idiotic comments. I’m going to address some of them, as well as some non-idiotic ones. First off, Let it Be was recorded before Abbey Road, but Abbey Road was released first. Second, Paul McCartney alone wasn’t responsible for the LOVE album (Which by the way is NOT bad). Paul, Ringo, Olivia Harrison, and Yoko all had to agree on it. Next, about teenage girls saying that they like them because the Please Please Me was “Mad hot.” That’s exactly what everyone did back in the cavern and later. Personally, I’d like to hear one other teenage person (that’s right, I’m a teenager) say that they liked anything about the Beatles. All I hear is crap from everyone. Next, according to Guinness, Paul McCartney is the most successful artists of all time. That’s him alone. We don’t care that the Beatles started before Metallica. The point is that they’re just not as successful. Heavy metal’s not music. It’s a people hitting random notes on their guitars that sound terrible when places next to eachother.

This sounds nice. Hopefully they know which songs to put on this Rock Band title and don’t make the mistake such as putting a song like “Wild Honey Pie” on there and leave out something like “Rain”.

Saying that Metallica would be greatest than the Beatles is the most stupid thing i’ve ever heard in my life. We are talking here about the greatest band of all times.

First of all, I think it’s a great idea, maybe osme of the suburban gangsta-posers I know will shut up about rap for a bit if they hear some decent music. Fine by me, The Beatles were great. The music is still great. I’m curious whether they’ll use nearly impossible-to-play-to selections, like “Revolution #9″, but I’m sure people will jam to “Tomorrow Never Knows”. As far as that idiot’s remark on “pretending” to play: it’s a game, you fool. It’s not playing music, and no one but you seems to have difficulty understanding the distinction. A friend who’s been playing drums professionally for over 25 years found it challenging to play the game; it’s not the same thing at all, as the rest of us know. And those basement hermit geeks who think it’s somehow ‘wrong’ for the Beatles’ music to be used in a game have evidently overlooked the dozens and dozens of other circumstances when the Beatles’ music was used for commercial purposes, from the 1960s to today. Some people are really closeted. Great to hear of this!

Guitar Hero didn’t dilute the appeal of the great older rock material. That job was done by bad radio stations overplaying the songs for years in between ten minutes of advertisements, as well as by inept cover bands attempting to impersonate the groups in costume. Or lame bar bands doing covers. Or dorky teens doing their own covers of songs recorded decades before they were even born, how antique of them. And much Guitar Hero material is actually re-recorded, not the original recordings, so it’s really not overkill or a ‘misuse’ of the music the fans get so obsessed about. Get real: it’s music, it’s made for enjoyment, it’s a commercial product, it can be manipulated, and I look forward to this game.

Please The Beatles are not the greatest, they were a bunch of stoners at the end making stoner music. I like their earlier work and pretty much left it alone. And about bands doing covers the Beatles recorded covers also. Now the may have influenced bands, but so did KISS, Alice Cooper, and The Beach Boys does that mean they should get their own game also?

Anyone claiming the Beatles are poppy stoner music can go ahead and listen to Metallica play the E chord tell they shrivel up and die. The Beatles were extremely innovative at the time, and like it or not, they did pave the way for most Bands since their end. PLENTY (PA-LENTY) of Beatles songs have constantly intricate guitar parts… let alone solos. If you think this game is some sort of shameful sell out of the greats, I think you need to take a step back and look the music industry in general. Money makes the world go round. Deal with it.

This game is going to lose money because licensing fees for Beatles songs are through roof and RB popularity is on the decline for many reasons.

No RB3 this year in favor of a standalone game featuring only one band AND no fixes for the problems in RB2. They should have said “either users can export songs to RB or no deal.” HMX, you keep blowing it.

There is so much elitism in these comments. The Beatles are an epic/important band (that I don’t own any albums by, but I still have respect). Fans will have the option of buying this or not. Kids that have never really paid attention to the Beatles will have the option of buying this or not.

What fixes are needed to RB2? I don’t know that I’ve noticed anything needing fixed.

I’d imagine there was a negotiation for licensing fees. There’s plenty of leverage both ways. The Beatles’ albums are copyrighted under British law. Please Please Me will be going public domain before too long and the others will follow. The Beatles won’t be able to capitalize on their entire library like this much longer.

This is a perfect excuse for me to stimulate the economy.

Beatles songs becoming public domain this quickly sounds far fetched. Songs can have copyrights extended almost infinitely. Did you know that Warner Music owns the rights to “Happy Birthday To You” – written 100 years ago? Yes, the song that gets sung with the cake. Should be interesting to see if this really happens.

As for what’s broken in RB2, the leaderboards are badly glitched rendering them almost completely useless, especially for single players. It matters to players of all levels more than HMX thinks. They took stars out of the single player career mode (which is now quickplay) so again, it’s hard to tell how well you’re doing. Basically, they destroyed the single player experience on purpose to make it more of a non competitive party game. That didn’t need to happen, it can be both and having a strong single player campaign is the key to replay value. Why? Becase humans are ego driven, it’s that simple. Getting your players addicted to playing whether they have other people to game with or not sells games and more importantly DLC. Addicted people will buy songs they don’t even like that much just to play something new. Without these kinds of players HMX won’t be able to turn a profit on mediocre music like they used to just less than a year ago. Bottom line, there are less active players now than before RB2 came out and guaranteed it’s mainly for the reasons I mentioned.

and they should also consider adding an extension for a piano to rock band. songs like lady madonna and hey jude will need a piano to make it a better experience

Most of the time, I like individual songs of performers. The Beatles is one of the few bands that has several songs I like. Maybe I’d buy Beatles Rock Band if it came on the Wii. I know some of the songs, so I’d probably like it. “Revolution” would be a pretty fun one.

I’m not sure how they’re re-do the charts to make the expert levels seem that intricate, it always sounded like mostly major chords to me, but then again I’m just an armchair beginner-if that.

I think it could be fun if it’s envisioned from the Caverns to Let It Be. With the bonus’s being the Missing Beatle, or Oasis or other Famous Band Covers.

It’s still worth a look see, so long as it’s not the sham the AC/DC or Aerosmith games were-Lots of $-set list you could get through in an evening.

The beatles songs are not necessarily easy. there would be some difficult rhythms in guitar. you would see alot of strange syncopation in the more experimental songs.

Look, the beatles are great… But can you really dedicate an entire game to them? Remember how guitar hero Airosmith worked out? The beatles have some gem songs but not a 60 song setlist full of them, I’d be willing to bet money you couldnt come up with 15 great songs you would want to play rock band to. The only band based game that has even remotly succeded is Guitar Hero Metallica.

The Stones did not pave the way for the Beatles! it is the other way around! the stones covered them when they first started out. Mick Jagger didn’t really know how to write music at first. after they were a big hit with “I wanna be your man” Mick figured out how to write music. aside from that, I do not like RB but will get this because of the beatles! the RB guitars and note symbols suck but Beatles will be the only reason to get RB. and i do hope one of them comes out with a Stones edition…and Zeppelin…and Pink Floyd…and one of them needs to put In-a-gadda-da-vida in…and i am talking about the whole 17:02 minutes! that would be the greatest GH/RB song ever! now to wait til september! The game will be compatible with other rockband instruments if you already have them though!! Cant wait finially a Music game worth playing. In my opinion, this game is a bad idea, and this is coming from someone who is both a huge fan of The Beatles AND a hardcore GH and RB player. Although I like the idea of a wide array of people gaining exposure to the great music that The Beatles wrote, it coming in video game form does sort of cheapen it.

Secondly, this game is going to be SO F*!$ING BORING. I’m sorry, but as far as guitar and drums go, The Beatles music is about as simple as it gets. I can play literally every Beatles song I know on guitar, and the drum parts all seem to consist of the same simple beat. As for the singing, I’d much rather sing along to the songs myself rather than having a game tell me how off-key I am. Rather than playing these classic songs on plastic instruments, I’d recommend learning them on REAL instruments – its A LOT more fun!Just not a good idea.

I have to admit i do like the beatles but as a guitarist and drummer on rock band and guitar hero i honestly think the parts for those are going to be really lame. i mean i know they were good for the 60’s but the drumming is usually the same stuff over and over and the guitar doesnt really have that much difference either. now as for singing yes this song will put a whole new level in the rock band guitar hero franchise cause ive heard that their are not one, not two, but THREE singing parts in this game. this will definately be the game that more guitarists are going to start singing while playing the guitar in. and unfortunately for the bass….. i feel sorry for the kid playing that part…. but yes this will be a fun game. but i think guitar hero’s van halen will probably win this fight. or mettallica for that reason. the one thing i always say about these games is that rock band is funner online where as guitar hero is faster on expert and probably better on drums with the newly added double bass pedal. not to mention some of the guitar parts are insane. but i will definately buy this game for the singing part.

The Rolling Stones have won over 70 platinum records and are actually the top band still. yes the beatles are good and will always be one of my favorite bands but due to those platinum records the rolling stones out weigh them. I grew up listening to The Beatles with my dad, I wasn’t lucky enough to be around when they were. Those who don’t like them, don’t buy it. Plenty of others will and I can’t wait! I am such a huge fan, my daughter is named after John Lennon, her middle name is Lennon. There isn’t a bigger influence to anyone that is singing and playing today. They all site The Beatles as one of their inspirations, and most people out there like many Beatles song and don’t even realize that its them. ok i really want to ask some of you what kind of drugs your on if you think this is a bad idea, i have been a beatles fan for years and hell the beatles are what got me into music, i do agree that todays music sucks especially the claims that people think the jonas brothers are the next beatles god gag me with a stick, but i do also agree that this music needs to grow and who knows older music is becoming more popular again and we could see a total re birth of the beatles with this, im not a rock band fan cause i didnt like alot of the songs on them but i will buy this and plus people the beatles started off as a ROCK band there was no such thing as pop in the 50’s and 60’s listein to music before the beatles and youll see how big a deal they were, yes there early songs were more innocent but there later years was more rock than anything, im sure ill have everything unlocked in the first day, im also buying the remasters in the same day, but of all its not a bad idea i hope it makes more kids fans so they can see what shit music is around today

Terrible business decision for the RB franchise to make this instead of RB3. What will there be to look forward to after this game gets stale in a month? And it WILL get stale. No amount of pretty cut scenes can give more replay value to a game that features only one band… a band whose songs are going to be ridiculously easy to play to boot.

While this game will introduce new people to the RB franchise, Beatles Fans who don’t normally play video games is probably the demographic least likely to turn into frequent rhythm game players, which won’t be good for DLC sales. And DLC sales are very important to HMX’s business plan.

I’m pretty sure they tripped on this one. They most likely had to make a full disc game or no deal. But just because you can, doesn’t mean you should.

I’m saving money for this and I know it will be fun.I actually play Beatles music on my guitar or my piano such as : Help!, Let it Be, She loves You, Day Tripper,While my guitar gently weeps etc. I tell ya people, when you can play Beatles music on a real instrument(I dont have anything against rockband)it feels so cool. My suggestion is to buy the game, get familiar with the songs, then learn how to play them on on guitar etc. and finally your one rank up from a fan your a musician… a BEATLES musician. Anyway for all you haters out there the Beatles made the 60’s and early 70’s a historical time. And notice how almost every song has a meaning! Except some from the Phsycadelic Experience Album. Nonetheless the Beatles made history by enriching billions of peoples lives with music.

I really have to debunk the total inaccurate ignorant things some have said about The Beatles on here.

Even, Ozzy Osbourne said in an online 2002 Bender Magazine interview that The Beatles Are The Greatest Band To Ever Walk The Earth. He’s been a huge fan since he’s been a teenager and he says not loving The Beatles is like not loving oxogen! The Rolling Stones were very good friends and fans of The Beatles and Mick Jagger was at 4 Beatles recording sessions and Keith Richards was at 2 of them with them. Also,The Beatles even wrote one of The Rolling Stones first hits with the song, I Wanna Be You’re Man in late 1963. As for the other inaccurate comments that some people say The Beatles didn’t even stay together for 2 decades, well they didn’t have to because they did about 50 years worth of innovative, creative, diverse, prolific great critically acclaimed popular songs and albums in just a remarkable 8 year recording career!

The Beatles are in The Song Writing Hall Of Fame & The Vocal Hall of Fame, and As The All Music Guide says in their excellent Beatles biography, “So much has been said and written about The Beatles and their story is so mythic in it’s sweep that it’s difficult to summarize their career without restating cliche’s that have already been digested by tens of millions of rock fans, to start with the obvious, they were the greatest and most influential act of the rock era, and introduced more innovations into popular music than any other rock band of the 20th century.” “As voсalists John Lennon & Paul McCartney were among the best and most expressive in rock and the groups harmonies were intricate and exhillirating.”

And music critics as well as brilliant classical composer Leonard Bernstein called John & Paul the most brilliant song writers of the 20th century when they were still a band . As for The Beatles playing live, they sounded pretty good playing live considering that when they were playing in 1963, 1964, 1965, and 1966 the sound systems back then were very limited and primitive, they only had 100 watt amplifiers, no feedback monitors so they couldn’t even hear themselves play and sing, yet they amazingly played in tune and in sync anyway, and at the August 1965 Shea Stadium concert which was the first big outdoor rock concert with over 55,000 fans, they were plugged into the PA system that they announce baseball games with plus the screaming crowds drowing out their great music! Can you imagine The Rolling Stones and The Who playing on these very limited primitive sound systems? They wouldn’t have sounded much better! Thats why they gave up touring, because they were serious music artists, composers, and musicians and they wanted their great music to be heard and valued. It would be like Beethoven playing on these limited primitive sound systems and screaming crowds! Also they were now writing music that was too complex to reproduce on stage at that time.

On the roof top concert in The Let It Be Film, they sounded great, because by January 1969 the sound systems had improved somewhat(although not anywhere near the 1970’s, 1980’s, 1990’s and especially today’s!) and they had changed and people had changed so there were no more screaming crowds so they could be heard. When I was a teenager I met 3 people who saw The Beatles in concert two of them were teachers who saw them in 1966 and he and she told me they were great,and my cousin saw them at age 16 at The Baltimore Colsieum in 1964 the year before I was born, and she said they were great.

Former Kiss guitarist and grammy winning producer Bob Kulick who made the heavy metal Beatles tribute album Butchering The Beatles last year, says in an online interview, that he saw The Beatles at Shea Stadium in 1966 and that he could only make out pieces of the songs because of the screaming, but he could make out the songs Baby’s In Black and Paperback Writer and he said they sounded amazing! He also calls The Beatles The Greatest Rock Band Ever! George Harrison at only age 14 would stay up playing his guitar until he got all of the chords exactly right and his fingers were bleeding! And One of The Beatles engineers Geoff Emerick says that in early 1966 when The Beatles were recording John’s song I’m Only Sleeping, George Harrison played backwards guitar the most difficult way possible even though he could have taken an easy way,and it took him 6 hours just to do the guitar overdubs! He then made it doubly difficult by adding even more distorted gitars and Geoff says this was all George’s idea and that he did all of the playing!

Eric Clapton said in a 1992 interview when he and George were asked what they admired about each other during their Japan tour, that George is a fantastic slide guitar player. He and George were very good friends and they obviously admired and respected each others guitar playing and George played guitar on Cream’s song Badge. Roger McGuinn of The Byrds says The Beatles used unusual folk rock chords in their early music and that they invented folk rock without even knowing it! He started to play a 12 string guitar after he saw and heard George Harrison playing one in The Beatles great film A Hard Day’s Night in early 1964. In an online Eric Clapton interview called, Eric Clapton In His Own Words, he says that John Lennon was a pretty good guitar player and he would have known since he played live in concert with John as a member of John’s 1969 Plastic Ono Band.

Wilco’s John Stirratt also said in a Bass Player interview online when asked what bass players has had the most impact on his playing and the first thing he said is,”Paul McCartney is one of the greatest bass players of all time,if you listen to what he was tracking live in the studio it’s unbelievable.” “With his tone and musicality he was a huge influence =,he covered all of his harmonic responsibilities really well but his lines were absolutely melodic and inventive.”

The 1992 Rolling Stone Album Guide calls Paul a remarkable bass player and rightfully calls John & Paul the 2 greatest song writers in rock history! Both Phil Collins and Max Weinberg both Beatles fans and both praise Ringo’s drumming and Phil Collins says that Ringo’s great drumming on A Day In The Life can’t be repeated even by him! Also on Rankopedia The Beatles are # 1 Greatest Rock Band,# 1 Greatest Most Innovative Rock Band,John &Paul are # 1 Greatest Rock Song Writers, John &Paul are on The Greatest Rock Male Vocalist list, and Paul McCartney is # 2 after John Enwistle as Greatest Rock Bass Players, John Paul Jones is # 6, and Bill Wynman is # 20! And there are many music professors teaching music courses at good universities on the brilliance of The Beatles especially of John &Paul, including by award winning music professor and composer Dr.Glen Gass, who has been teaching a course on The Beatles and rock music at Indiana University since 1982. On his web site for his course it says the main purpose of this course is to get students to have a better appreciation of this extraordinary group and their remarkable recordings. Dr.Gary Kendal’s Beatles course is the most requested course at North Western University. And a music professor by the last name of Heinonen teaches a Beatles course at JYVASKYLA University in Finland, and the university of California also teaches a Beatles course etc.

And in 2001 VH1 had a panel of well known musicans and music critcs, that voted The Beatles The Greatest Rock Band Ever, and in 2004 Rolling Stone did the same thing and several people said on message boards that Rolling Stone had a recent pael poll like this and The Beatles were voted # 1 again and for darn great reasons too! Nobody created as much innovative, creative, quality,critically acclaimed, popular diverse songs and albums in such a short amazing period of time as The Beatles and thats why most people know that The Beatles Are The Greatest Rock Band That Ever Was Or Will Be!!!! Oh and A Day’s Night is a great pop rock album!!!! And even Bob Dylan said decades ago about The Beatles early music, that their chords were outrageous, and the harmonies were wonderful and they were doing things in music that nobody had done before, and music critics of The London Times were praising their interesting and unusual chords that they used even in early songs like She Loves You & I Want To Hold Your Hand. Which were not as simple as they seemed and had clever subtleties in them. In fact Bob Dylan said in a Rolling Stone interview this Spring that he’s in awe of Paul McCartney and he said he’s the only one he’s in awe of. He said that Paul has the melody, he has the rhthym and he can sing the ballad very good, and he can play any instrument.

He also said there were no better singers than John Lennon &Paul McCartney and he said if George wasn’t stuck in the shadow behind John &Paul and he said who wouldn’t get stuck, he would have emerged as a great song writer in his own right anyway.

And by the way I have read some people saying on message boards that they don’t think The Rolling Stones were the best technical musicians, and many even some fans have said they haven’t done anything good in 35 years, and that their overrated and I have also found many people saying they hate or don’t like The Rolling Stones and many people say the only Rolling Stones song they like is Paint It Black! Oh and by the way, in every major poll of The Beatles vs The Rolling Stones, The Beatles always win as # 1 even on sites and message boards that are not Beatles fan sites! And when we look at the solo career comparison of Mick Jagger’s and Keith Richards solo careers with John, Paul & George’s, the facts are John Lennon’s first brilliant solo album, and his second great album Imagine are rightfully critically acclaimed, and I love John’s Walls & Bridges album and Paul McCartney’s first solo album McCartney is very good, and he played every instrument all by himself at age 27, and he played so many different instruments great! Wings 1975 Venus &Mars is a great rock album too!

And he and Denny Laine are the only musicians on Paul’s great 1973 Band On The Run album, which is critically acclaimed and popular, and he played every instrument by himself again on McCartney 2 in 1979, and most of the instruments on his 1997 Flaming Pie album, and his 2 recent acclaimed popular albums, Chaos And Creation In The Backyard, and Memory Almost Full. And John Paul Jones, David Gilmore, John Bonham &Pete Townsend all played on 2 songs with Paul and Wings on the last Wings album Back To The Egg, in 1979, and they played in the last Wings concert too in December 1979. You know I have found over 50 former Beatles haters on many message boards and web sites that are noe HUGE Beatles fans and many say they are now their favorite band and that they were the Greatest Band Ever! I didn’t communicate with these people but they said in their posts that they had a lot of inaccurate misperceptions of The Beatles and they hadn’t even heard most of The Beatles great songs and albums!

Most people don’t hate The Beatles in the first place, most people of all ages all around the world love or at least like their music, but it’s really something for former haters to turn into big fans and it just goes to show how Great The Beatles music is!!!!

And I and many people understandably feel that John Lennon had the best rock voices ever! George Martin said John’s voice was one of the best he ever heard, and in May 1967 when The Beatles were recording their song, Baby You’re A Rich Man, two recording engineers said they were always fascinated with the sound of John Lennon’s voice, and they always wanted to record it live and when they heard him singing this song live they said they couldn’t believe how great his voice was and that anyone could sing that well live.

And there are many people on message boards saying they can’t stand the sound of Robert Plant’s and Mick Jagger’s voices, and Bruce Springteen has one of the worst voices I have ever heard, he sounds like he’s throwing up to a music backing! I have to turn the radio off as soon as he’s on, and the same thing with Tom Petty, he has a terrible nasally bad voice! Bob Dylan has never been considered to have a good voice but I can tolerate him!

Also, The Beatles were *NEVER* a boy band at all not even in 1963, 1964 and 1965, and they were Mostly a Great *ROCK* Band from the start! They started out playing 8 hours a night for two years in a row playing in the sleazy strip clubs of Hamburg Germany wearing tight leather black pants and jackets, cursing and smoking on stage, and taking speed pills to awake, and going to bed with many young women groupies. The cleaned up image was a fake joke that their manager Brian Epstein created which John hated and resented the most.

There were a lot of rough thugs who came into those clubs, and if they played bad live, they would have beaten the crap out of them playing 8 hours a night for 2 years! Instead they became the most popular successful group in these German clubs even with all of the competition from other groups from England and Germany! They also played live in The Cavern Club for several years. They worked very hard to get where they got!

The Beatles wrote many great rock songs that were pretty rocking for the time, John’s great song You Can’t Do That from early 1964 which he played lead guitar on for the first time, Paul’s great blues rocker, She’s A Woman from late 1964, John’s I Feel Fine from late 1964, with the first use of feedback guitar, and one of the first songs to have a great guitar riff, a year before The Rolling Stone’s Satisfaction came out, Paul’s screaming hard rocker especially for 1965, I’m Down which they played even louder and more screaming at the August 1965 Shea Stadium concert, plus Day Tripper, Paperback Writer, She Said She Said, And You’re Bird Can Sing, Taxman, all with heavy electric guitar sounds, John’s 1968 hard rocking single Revolution, Yer Blues, Birthday, Back In The USSR, While My Guitar Gently Weeps, Everybody’s Got Something To Hide Except Me & My Monkey, plus Paul’s Helter Skeklter which as many people have pointed out was the first heavy metal songs, plus John’s I Want You She’s So Heavy on Abbey Road which many people have also pointed out was one of the first heavy metal songs, plus his great rocker Come Together, Paul’s Oh Darling, You Never Give Me Your Money, and the hard rocking jam of Paul, George,and John on the song The End, etc!! So anyone saying The Beatles were not a rock band You Are Wrong!!

Mick Jagger was such a big Beatles fan that when The Beatles were recording their song, Baby You’re A Rich Man in May 1967, he came there and stood on the sidelines just to watch and listen to them record it and his name was on the tape box because he likely sang at the end verses.

I also have to say, that I have always totally hated Led Zeppelin they truly sound like one of the worst groups I have ever had the misfortune of hearing! They along with Queen and Pink Floyd are the only 3 groups that I have to get up off of my chair even if I’m very tired and turn off immediately!

The Who, The Rolling Stones, and Jimi Hendrix are all a million times better! And The Beatles are Certainly a ZILLION times BETTER!!!!

I have also found many other people who hate Led Zeppelin and feel they are one of the worst bands ever too, and even some people on heavy metal sites. Oh band I have also read many people on music boards saying that Led Zeppelin’s lyrics are simple,and not that good and like a teenage boy wrote them !

on a fan site for the rock group Yes, called, Yesfans.com ( who are also big Beatles fans themselves and they recorded and played live several Beatles songs and member Rick Wakeman did a whole Beatles tribute album in 2000) they had a topic called exactly this, from 2004-2008 and over 70% of the Yes fans voted the first choice, No Of Course Not They Were Not Overrated How Can You Even Ask This Question.

And one of the Yes fans posted in early 2008,” The Greatest Band of all time overrated? Phuck no!”

And another Yes fan quoted him and said I second what he said!

Also, guitarist Frank Marino of the hard rock group Mahogany Rush said in several online interviews that he hates The Rolling Stones but he likes The Beatles,Jimi Hendrix,and The Doors etc. And Dave Navarro of the rock group Jane’s Addiction said in Guitar World in 1991 and 1996 that he has always hated The Rolling Stones and he will never play one of their records!

I got news for you on Last FM. The Rolling Stones only had 80 members of their fan group in 2007, The Beatles had over 2,000 which is now over 4,000 and the average age of fans is 22 more guys than girls and they are from all over the world! They were also the 1 listened to artists on Last.FM in 2006,2007 and 2008!

The Beatles are still rightfully regarded by most people, most rock critics, and many other music and rock artists as The most creative, innovative, and prolific rock band ever!

As many people even some Rolling Stones fans have said, The Rolling Stones haven’t made a great record in at least 25 years or more.The Beatles wrote, played and recorded so many critically acclaimed,loved, popular songs and albums of all different styles of music, and did them all great, in just an 8 year recording career so they really made about over 50 years worth of mostly great music in such a short period of time and that is why they are/ were so amazing and great!

And The Rolling Stones copied The Beatles in many ways including trying to rip off sgt.Pepper with Their Satanic Majesties Request album.And it was John & Paul who wrote one of their first hits, I Wanna Be You’re Man in early 1964 and they wrote it right in front of Mick Jagger and Keith Richards who were blown away and said how can you just write a song just like that?! And it inspired them to start writing their own songs.

Infact The Rolling Stones were big fans of and good friends with The Beatles and Mick Jagger was at 4 Beatles recording sessions and Keith Richards was at 2 of them with him. And Mick can be seen clapping his hands and singing along to All You Need Is Love in the TV show Our World from June 1967 which is in The Beatles Anthology video series. Keith Richards was there too but Mick was sitting right up in the fron in front of The Beatles playing. Eric Clapton and Graham Nash were there to along with a whole bunch of their other friends.

The Beatles wrote *plenty* of great rock songs including hard rock on The White Album and Abbey Road and as many have rightfully pointed out Paul invented heavy metal with his 1968 song Helter Skelter and people have also said John’s I Want You She’s So Heavy on Abbey road was also one of the first heavy metal songs.

Even in their early days they wrote some great rockers that were very rocky for the times, as The All Music Guide said,in their very good review of Past Masters Volume 1 that they proved they could rock really really hard,with John’s I Feel Fine from late 1964 which featured the very recorded feedback guitar on a rock song,and Paul’s great blues rocker,She’s A Woman also from late 1964,and what they called the peerless I’m Down which is Paul’s screaming rocker from mid 1965 which they performed even harder rocking,and screaming in August 1965 at Shea Stadium.

Also John’s You Can’t Do That from early 1964,is a great rock song, so is Day Dripper,Paperback Writer, And You’re Baird Can Sing, She Said She Said,Taxman,Ticket To Ride which has also been pointed out as having a very heavy electric guitar sound etc!

And The Rolling Stones also wrote their share of sentimental soft commercial songs like Lady Jane,Ruby Tuesday,As Tears Go By, Angie,Waiting On A Friend, none of which are rock songs,and the 2 dreadful bad disco imitations Miss You and Emotional Rescue!

As this guy Sal66 who has also posted on sites debunking ignorant crap about The Beatles has rightfully pointed out, The Beatles wrote,played and recorded I Feel Fine in the Fall of 1964 which was the first use of feedback guitar on a pop rock record and it also had a prominent guitar riff throughout this very good song almost a year *before* The Rolling Stones’s Satisfaction came out.

And on John’s great Norwegian Wood recorded in the Fall of 1965,George Harrison was the first to play a sitar on a pop rock song and it was released on their great album Rubber Soul in December and then in May 1966 The Rolling Stones song Paint It Black came out with Brian Jones playing a sitar!

I just read through a lot of these comments and have decided to share my thoughts. I do not believe that The Beatles are the best band ever. I like them very much and they are one of my favorite bands, but to me they are not the best. I think the title of ‘best band’ is just an opinion. Every person has their own best band. It doesn’t matter how much ‘evidence’ you try to find to prove otherwise. I could write pages and pages on why I think that The Rolling Stones are superior to The Beatles, but in the end someone who thinks The Beatles are better are always going to disagree. Why do people try so hard to make others see things the same as themself? Everybody’s different, so just respect the differences.

Just to correct Alex from 10/21/08…

Nothing on Let it Be was recorded after “Abbey Road.” When the “Get Back” sessions ended (as ‘Let it Be” was first to be known) and the movie project created such a negative vibe, the Beatles shelved it and were basically calling the band overwith. John and Paul recorded “The Ballad of John & Yoko” and felt good enough to then decided that the Beatles could not go out like that and wanted to record one more album. That was Abbey Road. After the Beatles recorded “The End,” and everyone knew it was over, EI/Parlaphone discussed releasing the “Get Back” session songs. The Beatles wanted them released “as is,” but EMI thought they were too rough and wanted them cleaned up. The job was given, against the Beatles wishes, to Phil Spector who added all kinds of bacing music and orchestration which offended the Beatles to no end and disavowed them thoroughly. So, nothing on Let it Be was performed or recorded by the Beatles after or during “Abbey Road.” The only song recorded during the Abbey Road era not on an album was “Ballad of John and Yoko” which was really just John and Paul (bass and drums), as John wanted it to be a “Beatles” release.

The game itself is a fabulous game and it is the only reason I broke down and bought a “Rock Band” or “Guitar Hero” typoe game and my wife, kids, and I play it all the time. We are currently enjoying the Abbey Road downloads and are looking forward to the SPLHCB release in November… hopefully sooner than later in the month.

Lisa, of course you are entitled to not like the Beatles or not think they are the greatest band ever. However, what can not be denied is that they had the greatest influence on modern music and that NOTHING in the music world would be remotely as it is had they not done it. Just about every major concept in recording was done by them first… stadium concerts, etc. Many were attracted to the Stones because they had a “meaner edge” than the “She Loves You/I want to Hold Your Hand” Beatles. However, I always laughed back then as the Stones were the biggest frauds… a bunch of spoiled London rich kids trying to act hard, while all 4 Beatles grew up in rough neighborhoods in Liverpool and probably could have kicked the arses of the Stones hands down. Be that as it may, groups like The Stones and The Who owe their very existence to the Beatles.
No other Band before or since had such an effect, not just on music, but on society. The 60’s were a reflection… The Beatles did something, moved on while the rest of the world was still reacting and expanding on their previous nuance.

In all music history of the last 100 year, only Elvis can lay claim to having as great an influence. Elvis introduced white America to rock, and then the world, which then influenced the Beatles. Without Elvis, no Beatles. The only reason I put The Beatles ahead is that they expanded everything, took it to places Elvis could never dare to think, and they created their own music where Elvis just sang songs others wrote and performed first.

So, truly, despite the current roster of the Stones always billing themselves as “The Greatest Rock and Roll Band in the World,” they have always been second place… in sales, in recognition, in creativity, etc. The Beatles were the kings and those who lived at that time knew it.

Truth is, both bands got along great with each other… but, if you watch and read the stories, the Stones always showed up at the Beatles sessions to see what the Beatles were doing… the Beatles never came in on the Stones. Not to mention, the Stones did covers Beatles songs, never vice-versa.
