With their new album Dig Out Your Soul out and an international tour underway, Rolling Stone caught up with Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher to chat about the first record that blew his mind, how he measures success and God’s musical prowess.

The Black Crowes’ Chris Robinson recently said if you stay around long enough you become cool again. Seems like that’s happening with Oasis here as well.
That’s something I think about a lot and I remember Paul Weller telling me that. But I don’t worry about that; I’m happy with the way Oasis is. But he was talking about the cycles; it comes and goes. It’s like songwriting. It’s not a race. It’s about the quality you put out more than the quantity. And I love the Black Crowes. The way I judge success is we’re doing it on our own terms and that outweighs any fucking success. If I can get through this, the whole Oasis thing, knowing I didn’t fucking suck cock, then that is a huge success to me.

No one kissed U2’s ass harder than these guys 10 years ago and now he slags ‘em off. Wanker.

Love the new album, love Liam. He’s so right about bands today.

joe – u my friend are a wanker

Hey Ian, I like Oasis’ music. Noel is a pretty cool dude. But Liam is a wanker. It sure smacks of hypocrisy to hear him talk about bands sounding like other bands. And I sure as hell ain’t your friend, limey. It’s OK, I know how much you yearn to have the GagBros nut in your gob.

Hip hop is now bigger than rock n’ roll because rock music has become middle class, while hip hop remains something from the street. This is why America doesn’t get Oasis, because Oasis are a working class rock band. It just to be the norm for rock bands to be composed of street kids, but now rock ‘n roll is middle class and polite.

Liam is 100% right. KOL have sold out big time. Some songs on their new LP like Use Somebady would not be out of place on a Coldplay album. To say in Gallagher stlye, “if it aint broke dont fix it” Oasis since day 1 have been the best band in the world and Dig Out Your Soul is epic! Shame us americans prefers the Jonas bros to the Gallaghers

Four Nick Eight | 10/31/2008, 2:41 pm EST

I guess staying true to the Beatles sound is not selling out, but imitating Coldplay and U2 is. It’s a fine line between “influence” and “sellout”. Sellout is the most ridiculous word in music today. Isn’t that the goal of a band. To be the best and biggest? to use all the influences your hear combined with your own sound to create something? TO REACH THE WIDEST AUDIENCE POSSIBLE? Hello Kettle, I’m Oasis. You’re black.

This was a great interview. Americans have an intolerance towards Oasis, and I never really go why. I thought Standing On the Shoulders of Giants and Heathen Chemistry were standout albums compared to a lot of other “rock” or “alternative” or whatever you want to call it these days. I didn’t care for the last album, and am not interested in the new one. They really should do an acoustic album and tour a little more.

TOTALLY | 10/31/2008, 6:59 pm EST

love their music. TOTALLY could care less of him as a person. Usually when someone runs around with a put-off attitude claiming they dont care what people think of them, the opposite is true. Poseur.

the Suns Of Ivy | 11/5/2008, 12:05 pm EST

Oasis are the greatest band on the planet. They truly don’t give a f*** if you or anyone else likes them and that is why I like them.

the H | 12/12/2008, 2:05 am EST

I don’t know about Oasis being a sellout, but I’d like to f#!% Liam Gallagher
