Neil Young’s long-delayed Archives Volume 1 (1963-1972) may finally be released on January 27th, according to online retailer Amazon. As posted in the listings, the 10-disc set will be available both in Blu-ray and standard DVD form — and the list price for Blu-ray is a whopping $431.99. Archives Volume 1 has bounced release dates dating back to 1999. Archives‘ own Website still promises “Coming in 2007″ as an eight-CD, two-DVD box set. This year, a release date of February 18th, 2008 was considered and passed over before November 25, 2008 was selected, but Warner/Reprise recently announced that the set would instead be pushed back to early 2009. The delays are partially because of indecision how exactly to release the box set, whether it’s just Blu-ray or DVD or CD or a combination of each. The Archives set is expected to contain rare and unreleased material ranging from Young’s career spanning from Buffalo Springfield to CSNY to his early solo albums, plus some concerts from the era.
