Melissa Etheridge Blasts California’s Prop 8 as “Blatantly Hateful”

Melissa Etheridge has spoken out against Prop 8, which would eliminate same sex marriages in California. “Prop 8 is a blatantly hateful, and fearful proposition that I believe the great citizens of California can see through,” Etheridge writes. “The proponents of it have run the most fearful of television ads telling the people that if this doesn’t pass they will have to teach about homos to small grade school children. I can’t seem to recall any relationships ever being taught in school and I can’t find anything about that in this proposition.” Etheridge also writes about the often-tumultuous history same-sex marriages have faced in the state of California, as well as her struggle to adopt children. After the state initially voted against same sex marriages with Proposition 22 back in 2000, the California Supreme Court changed course and announced same sex marriages were legal. Prop 8 looks to nullify that decision. Etheridge, who married actress Tammy Lynn Michaels in 2003, says “I will be waking up with my children on November 5th and I will be fixing them breakfast as I usually do. I look forward to telling them that prop 8 was defeated. I am sure my son will say, ‘Good, that was lame.’”

Yes on 8 is not about hating anyone. Its sad to your so blind to see that.

Of COURSE Proposition 8 is about hate! Why is she so blind? Now that it’s passed, her marriage is annulled. So that heterosexuals can feel better about their violent, loveless marriages, they have taken the right to marry away from same-sex couples. All the benefits that the state reaps upon married couples are now denied to homosexuals. It’s discrimination for the sake of discrimination. I’m surprised that those who voted Yes are even able to tie their own shoe laces, their intelligence must be so lacking.

Melissa… They read your statement regarding the passing of Prop 8 on a local station in Sacramento today and how you feel you are not a full citizen anymore. Well, I never viewed it from that point of view, but since my husband and myself are apparently no longer married now, I agree that I should not have to pay my state taxes since the state does not look at me as a legal citizen!

On a side note… Since 8 has passed (for now anyway), does this mean schools are going to teach about divorce, and family dysfunction? We all know strait marriages have done a great job keep those numbers so high!

Lloyd: BOTTOM LINE: Prop 8 takes AWAY rights, thereby going against the constitution. It makes me laugh…of all topics Christians become enraged against…they choose marriage legalization. Too bad they are not as enraged and passionate about the genocide in Darfur, the poverty in New Orleans (and elsewhere post-Katrina), etc. I guess you would never see THOSE FREAKING signs in their yards….

Lloyd: You may want to change “your” to “you’re”. You further prove my theory about the intellect of the “Yes on 8″ supporters.
