In the Studio: Wilco, Band of Horses, Liz Phair

Wilco have already recorded demos for a new album and are heading into their Chicago studio, the Loft, this month to start rerecording and fleshing them out. “Sonically it’s going to be a much wilder, much more unexpected record,” says guitarist Nels Cline. “There’s going to be too much to choose from. Right now it’s an embarrassment of riches, for sure.”

Later this month, Band of Horses will begin work on their third album at Alabama’s famed Muscle Shoals Sound Studio. “I’ve read about that place and heard the records out of there for my whole life,” says singer Ben Bridwell, who notes that he’s already written 27 songs. “We can’t wait to get in there and tap some of its mojo.”

Liz Phair is working on a new record — due in 2009 — with several producers including Jeff Trott (Sheryl Crow) and John Alagia (Dave Matthews).

Alagia helped produce Liz’s snoozefest “Somebody’s Miracle”, God I hope he doesn’t fuck up this album too!!

When will you guys quit putting Britney & Barack on the cover and finally give some credit to one of the hardest working and most prolific acts of the past 15 years in Wilco?

I am such a fan if Sky Blue Sky – I hope they keep that feel for the next one

I definitely enjoyed the stripped down sound of Sky Blue Sky and I hope they keep that feel somewhat but I’m always excited to see the ways in which Wilco evolves. Sounds their really gonna let it rip and I cannot wait.

Wilco is simply amazing.
one of the best bands America has to offer. I very much enjoyed the experimental sounds of A Ghost Is Born, but also the more stripped down riff laden Sky Blue Sky which was there first offering with Nels Cline. I hope Sky Blue Sky was simply a warm-up for things to come on this next album. I cannot wait!!

Wilco, by far the best America has to offer…15 years ago I would have been pumped about a new Liz Phair record, not now, hopefully she will surprise us all!

Please, I live in America. Chile, by the way. Wilco is for sure one of the best things you have. But please be respectful when you are talking about America. You don’t know what the fuck is happening in music below Rio Grande. You are not America.

Omar, our country is named the United States of America.

Your country is not named Chile States of America.

It’s just Chili.

Sure, you live in South America, but we live in North America.

But because we have America in our names, that makes us far more American than you.

Also, our Chili is better than your Chile.

What’s happening below the Rio Grande is poverty, drugs, greed and death. If that’s your America, have at it, conquistador!

They never recorded at Muscle Shoals Sound because it’s not Muscle Shoals Sound anymore.. Some nut who thinks that it’s MSS is there now and it is really just a museum not a studio. That is what Ben said anyways
