AC/DC’s “Black Ice” Tops 29 World Charts, World Tour Kicks Off Tonight

10/28/08, 12:54 pm EST

AC/DC’s Black Ice rode the “Rock N’ Roll Train” straight to number one on 29 countries’ sales charts around the world. From Belgium to New Zealand to Norway, the album is king. Unfortunately, Argentina prevented Black Ice from conquering a 30th chart thanks to a #2 finish. Here in the States, Wal-Mart will sell an estimated 780,000 copies of Black Ice as it cruises to the top of tomorrow’s charts. In total, nearly five million copies of Ice have shipped worldwide. Add to that the roughly five million albums from their back catalogue that AC/DC has sold this year and the band is having a pretty good 2008. The band is also dominating the U.S. Rock Radio chart, where “Rock N’ Roll Train” has remained perched at #1 since its debut back in early-September. Plus, it’s played at pretty much every sporting event now. AC/DC will look to replicate their charts success in the touring sector when they begin their Black Ice World Tour tonight in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. Stay tuned to Rock Daily for a full report from tonight’s show.

gratz for them

soon guns n roses will dominate the charts again i bet

I disagree. | 10/28/2008, 2:00 pm EST

I highly doubt Chinese Democracy sales will come anywhere near as close to Black Ice.

AC/DC are more of crowdpleasers than GNR.

frank rizzo | 10/28/2008, 3:58 pm EST

amazing what advertising and hype does for a mediocre album.
their heyday was the Mutt Lange years. Mutt is brilliant at crafting songs to their am potential.

23axl | 10/28/2008, 5:22 pm EST

its all about AXL. no one even comes close.

joe | 10/28/2008, 8:16 pm EST

Spoken like a jealous guns and roses fan…….will you give me a break ac/dc blows every everyone out of the water!! Fuck Axl Rose and his pretty boy “I am too good for my fans” bullshit.

joe | 10/28/2008, 8:17 pm EST

13 years to come out with chinese democracy and most everyone has heard the at least parts of the album……..it wasn’t worth the wait

joe | 10/28/2008, 8:21 pm EST

I’ll take any of the Bon Scott albums and most of the Brian Johnson albums over Appetite for Destruction or Use Your Illusion 1 and 2.

black bottom | 10/28/2008, 8:25 pm EST

This may be the best album AC/DC ever made! I mean it! At worst it’s 2nd best, after Back In Black.

Ali | 10/28/2008, 8:43 pm EST

I don’t think it’s at all out of the realm of possibility for Chinese Democracy to match the sales of Black Ice. I don’t think AC/DC are more of a “crowdpleaser” than GN’R.

How does you pronounce AC/DC? I am new to in America. You are 1 number!

kylie | 10/28/2008, 9:46 pm EST

Bon Johnson | 10/29/2008, 4:08 am EST

Thanks for showing what a moron you are Kylie. AC/DC stands for alternate current and direct current. The abbreviations were on the back of a sewing machine of the Young brothers sister. They liked it and used it. Know your facts before spouting out stupidity please.

thunderroadsupernova | 10/29/2008, 9:49 am EST

R SOME OF U PEOPLE INSANE CHINESE DEMOCRACY GOOD OR BAD WILL SHATTER ALL KINDS OF RECORDS. BOTH BANDS ARE GREAT BUT THE IDIOT WHO WOULD TAKE MOST ACDC ALBUMS OVER APPETITE UR INSANE ONE OF THE GREATEST AND MOST IMPORTANT RECORDS OF OUR TIME. BOTH BINB AND HIGHWAY TO HELL ARE CLASSICS BUT NOT EVEN CLOSE TO APPETITE. ACDC HAS QUITE HONESTLY MADE THE SAME RECORD FOR 25 YEARS BUT GOD BLESS THEM THEY STILL KICK ASS CHEERS!

plissken2013 | 10/29/2008, 10:56 am EST

That AC/DC album is good. But I’ll always prefer Bon Scott era.

I can’t wait for Chinese democracy, but the sales of the new GN’R record won’t reach AC/DC’s level: AC/DC is now more of a crowdpleaser than Guns n’ roses. I just want GN’R to sell enough albums to be able to put out another record. I couldn’t care less about the rest.

Nick Robertson | 10/29/2008, 12:10 pm EST

AC/DC means Auxiliary Current/ Direct Current- they got the idea when they saw their sister’s sewing machine plugged into the wall.

Ice Man | 10/29/2008, 5:49 pm EST

This is a stupid argument. Guns is nothing more than a overrated hair band. AC/DC leaves those cheesy deweebs in the dust.

Back in Black and Highway to Hell are still the best two discs. Then Black Ice.

This is a stupid argument. Guns is nothing more than an overrated hair band. AC/DC is way better than those cheesy dweebs.

Back in Black and Highway to Hell are the best two discs. Black Ice would be third, thank you.
