NBC has recruited T.I., B.B. King, the Flaming Lips, Richie Sambora, the B-52’s and more to help recreate the channel’s signature three-not chimes in celebration of NBC’s 75th anniversary. While we’re not entirely sure what T.I. will bring to the eight-second song, this hilarious video gives a sneak peak at what the Flaming Lips have in store. In true Wayne Coyne fashion, the Lips leader shows off his new double-neck guitar, with the lower neck actually just a Guitar Hero controller with a noise modulator attached to it. “There’s always an element of being asked to do things that are just sort of absurd,” Coyne says of the band’s NBC promo, which should start airing around Thanksgiving. “We kind of embrace that. That’s how we ended up on Beverly Hills 90210.” King’s commercial will find the legend taking the chime to a small club, adding a bluesy twist to the three-notes. The ads will also feature some of NBC’s biggest stars. If you’re entirely confused what “chimes” we’re talking about, just fast-forward to the 2:52 mark in this video for a close interpretation.
