Ex-Guns n’ Roses Drummer Steven Adler Is Having the Worst Week Ever

10/24/08, 12:33 pm EST

What are the chances that exciting news breaks about your ex-band’s 14-years-in-the-making album finally coming out the same week you make an embarrassing appearance on a VH1 show about celebrity drug treatment? Unfortunately, that improbable set of circumstances has befallen original Guns n’ Roses drummer Steven Adler, who was the most cringe-worthy addict on Celebrity Rehab last night: sobbing about how his friendship with Slash has deteriorated to the point where the guitarist didn’t ring him up to drum on his upcoming solo LP, sucking down bong hits while proclaiming his desire to die, declaring his admiration for Jeff Conaway (whose leather jacket and curled hair made him look like a zombie Kenickie). We’re not sure what the success rate for reality-TV interventions is, but we’re rooting for you, Steven.

UPDATE: Adler is currently scaring the crap out of us on Sober House.

Steven Adler? I thought it was David Coverdale from Whitesnake.

Sanchez | 10/24/2008, 1:40 pm EST

Who?

Rockstar70 | 10/24/2008, 4:01 pm EST

Steven was a reason that Appetite was such a succuss. He may not be the best drummer in the world but he was the right drummer for the best version of GUNS. Here’s to eventually having you back Steven. I would never consider attending a GnR reunion without you on board!

gunner22 | 10/24/2008, 9:03 pm EST

Steven “Popcorn” Adler, the coolest drummer ever!

Joe | 10/25/2008, 12:23 pm EST

If anyone was more Ringo than Ringo it was Steven Adler.

goggs90 | 10/25/2008, 5:18 pm EST

What’s wrong with Steven smokin’ weed? I see it as a medicine myself… but that’s just me. The cops of L.A. need to be beaten, quartered, and drawn for all the pain and suffering they cause due to their illegal enforcement.

I love how | 10/25/2008, 8:35 pm EST

goggs90 rips Axl Rose a new one on a different blog but cuddles up to poor misunderstood Steven Adler, because as we all know there’s nothing cooler than someone who smokes weed. Talk about douchebag.

Rock & Roll Chef | 10/26/2008, 9:28 pm EST

I saw Adler sit in with Enuff Znuff at Rocklahoma 2008. Guess what – he was sober for that show, and sounded solid. Believe it – he was a great drummer, and he’s still got it.

GNR4EVER! | 10/27/2008, 8:45 am EST

Steven is a great drummer and a GNR reunion tour without him would be a letdown to fans of the original line-up. Lets hope that Steven works out his demons once and for all and gets back on track.

And – message to Axl: DO A REUION TOUR FOR YOUR FANS!! Stop acting like the current version of GNR is the real deal when it is just the Axl Rose band (no offence to the guys in the current band…a talented bunch they all are…but GNR is Alx, Slash, Izzy, Duff and Steven and will always be!!!

lazymoon13 | 10/27/2008, 4:40 pm EST

you could rotate all these white trash metalhead morons from one instrument or band to the next and it all wouldnt matter one bit. its all meaningless on the music history timeline. every one of them would be 1000 x’s more interesting in rehab, so lets cut to the chase with all of them.

jokerOC | 10/28/2008, 1:04 am EST

The guy who got kicked out of Guns N’ Roses for doing to much drugs! Hope he gets it, addiction doesn’t care who you are it goes after and you of everything. Hate how tv expliots drug addicts for shows like this. Sad, sad, im a big GNR fan and greatful to be sober. Good luck to him…..

MINNIE-SODA | 11/1/2008, 10:39 pm EST

I just saw Steven A. on “Celebrity Rehab”. He comes across as being sweet, funny, and very vulnerable. I hope he comes out of this with health and strength in his corner.

carolinehurley | 11/7/2008, 10:27 am EST

He’s always been a great drummer and really good lookin’! Shame he let the drugs take over and give hime those mini-strokes….Really messed up his sex-appeal. He still really rocks and seems to be a really down to earth cool person. Just wish he’d quit the crap………

Tiera | 11/17/2008, 2:30 pm EST

Look up old pics of Steven Adler…Cute as can be! I see pics of him now, and despite the slight muscle weakness in his face, he is one handsome man. Also, he’s still a great drummer. Anything else about him is neither here nor there, seeing as I don’t know him personally.(I wish I did!!)

SO SERENE | 11/17/2008, 2:40 pm EST

I took your advice and looked up old photos of Steven A. DAMN!!!! Georgeous–simply gorgeous. No wonder he’s still handsome 20 years later.

Sidhartha | 11/20/2008, 11:51 pm EST

How is Steven Adler doing now? Does anyone know? I realize that the Rehab episodes were filmed awhile ago. I hope he’s alright!

Let him fade | 11/21/2008, 3:54 am EST

He had his day, now off into the sunset with him once and for all.

cc in canyon country | 11/22/2008, 9:50 pm EST

Steven: you have to get off the drugs once and for all. You are awesome person and I am rooting for you!

darkstar | 11/22/2008, 11:53 pm EST

I find Steven much more handsome now than he ever was.He seems like thru all his big bumps on the road he has learned things and it shows, the maturity and even tho he has that damn demon I feel like he just maybe seeing the light! That would be wonderful because you can teel he has a good soul!

DonMarlon | 11/25/2008, 1:21 pm EST

Steven Adler will remain THE drummer of GNR. Matt Sorum is not bad but just compare “Appetite for Destruction” and the other songs: you will hear that the band played on the edge. And was never so good… RIP GNR!

jonny boy | 11/25/2008, 8:14 pm EST

Steven. You are the greatest person in the world. I know your pain and whoever puts you down for having an addiction or the problems you are having doesn’t realize how hard it is and how vulnerable you can be without even meaning to. I know deep in my heart you mean well and I love you so much. Gnr isn’t the same without you.

DAWORMO | 11/26/2008, 6:25 pm EST

At first watching the rehab show show I thought what a loser. This guy doesn’t want to get clean he’s just afraid to die. Not knowing who he was or caring for that matter I thought just another self centered musician loser. Today my perception is this guy is growing up. I sense he will get past the victim mentality and own the pain he caused to himself and his family. The storming out of the room act is a natural part of facing the demons the addict created and nurtured all along. This guy is maturing and growing internaly with lifes program of “life on lifes terms”. His playing days are over and nobody can suger coat that. He does have a life to look forward to. In the music industry the musicians are only 10% of the industry as a whole. Producers, technicians, writers, choreagrophers, promotors etc. Adler has the most important job in his future if he chooses to accept and that’s the “mentor”. His past can be the experiences that he can pass on to a life of solutions rather than a life about to be ended. Adler has the chance to inspire. I hope he goes for it.

In Vain | 11/29/2008, 12:48 am EST

Steven, wanna drum in my band? We’re no VR, or GNR, but dude, you’re the best drummer ever, join with us and we can rule the music scene as fanboy and god!

Redrabit1 | 11/30/2008, 12:04 am EST

Those who know addiction identify with you, those who know music worship you, those who see your struggle wish they had your strength. Take care of yourself by taking care of others along the way. I couldn’t care less who “the best” drummer in the world is, Steven- you’re my favorite. Keep kicking.

goofoff | 11/30/2008, 9:36 pm EST

Steven has been completely lost in this rehab show. He doesn’t listen to anyone. He looks at them and ignores what they are saying. Like when his wife is there crying because she doesn’t want him to die. He could care less. He wants to be back on the road and in his old environment where anything goes. Great drummer or not…..WHAT A LOSER!

One time fan | 11/30/2008, 10:18 pm EST

It will take some time but if Steven wants a sober drug free life..its there for the taking but he just has to have the courage to want it.

GNR??
Sorry Guns & Roses had its hay day and its just another band without its original members.

GNR RIP.

Allsaints | 12/1/2008, 12:15 pm EST

Just happened to click on Celeb. Rehab one night not sure of who anybody was..Steven has had the most impact on me.. just recently found out he had mini strokes… that he was a drummer for GNR and that he is a heroin addict. There is something very sad about the stories he tells but he needs to realize he is accountable for his actions depite the reason for his pain. His mother needs to apologize and then love him because that will be a large part of his healing process. He needs to love himself too… I wish him strength and courage. Nobody should judge this man… the time for that is long over.

Slo-Poke | 12/3/2008, 4:41 pm EST

I like what I see in Steven Adler. (on the Rehab show) He seems to be very compassionate towards his fellow patients, and towards the staff. I think his (perceived) immaturity in regard to his Mom and former band mates has as much to do with his young age when experiencing abandoment, as it does with drug/alcohol use.

ritarig | 12/7/2008, 9:05 am EST

Does anyone know what happened to Steven’s mouth? It seems disconnected somehow. Thanks.

rick bell | 12/11/2008, 5:20 pm EST

such courage and true feelings come out in this man. immagine the style of life a G@R’s member lived. to be so open ab out personal real life stuff . rock on steve cause I admire your courage, it’s true that we all have demons, but your one of the reasons I am clean, don’t fall, stand tall, watchin like a fly on the wall

Nurse Lor | 12/17/2008, 8:24 pm EST

My husband and I have seen Steven on Celebrity Rehab and absolutely loved him. He is a kind sweet man who has had more than his share of struggles. We have shared many of the same experiences and know firsthand that these demons can be beat. Steven..we’re with you all the way and will keep you in our prayers. Rock on Dude..

Cherylann | 12/19/2008, 7:41 pm EST

Coulda, shouda, woulda, Is in the past, Steven Adler YOU have been givin another chance and juding by allthese peoples comments on my space EVERYONE IS PULLING FORYOU, GOOD LUCK sweet man.

elronmackenzie | 12/21/2008, 1:15 am EST

hey, ritarig. steven had a stroke that was related to his drug abuse. that’s what happened to his mouth/speech.

LynnofNC | 12/21/2008, 9:53 pm EST

Steven,
Saw you on VH1 and love you. I wish I could be there to hang out with you and help you stay sober. Seems you have had some good times with the bad times. But look at what you have right now in front of you. A beautiful wife that loves you and wants to support you. Stay stong and sober and be there to grow old with your wife. I wish you and Carolina the best.

Jessica Des | 12/22/2008, 10:38 am EST

also..you are a extremely attractive gentleman…and you are so strong..kind…loving..caring. .u are just a beautiful person inside and out. never ever forget it….there maye be 1 ot of 100 ppl who call u a loser..and its because they are ignorant, misinformed, and plain stupid… you are my HERO

Peteyd | 12/26/2008, 9:50 am EST

I cant believe the ignorance, and blind-sidedness in thinking that Adler is not a “bad person”. And to compare him to Beatles drummer “Ringo”. You libral morons are much of a loser then Adler is. He is a bonifide drug addict, and always will be. He deserved to what happened to him, and I hope he reads this.

Adler, your a loser, and always will be. There’s not a Drug-rehab in the world that will straighten you up. You are just making more of an ass out of yourself, by appearing on television trying to show that your drying up.

Ann..Newfoundland Canda | 12/26/2008, 3:16 pm EST

Stephen, you are so adorable. Its great to know yo are getting another chance with life. Your girl is beautiful and really seems to love you, thats what you need right now, not music, or not cut it out but write and sing songs to her. Your fan Ann

Lisa | 12/27/2008, 3:21 am EST

I’m rooting for you Steven!! Please please please stay clean for your wife and of course yourself!!!! You made unbelievable progress in only three weeks!!! After a while, living sober becomes normal to you, so hang in there. Enjoy life!

irened | 12/28/2008, 8:44 pm EST

Steven,
Keep fighting!!! We hope you come out of this strong and wise enough to know what is good for you. We love you and wish you luck!

George A. | 12/30/2008, 12:35 am EST

Steve,
I was’nt the biggest Gun’s and Rose’s fan due to your lead singer, but I’m a big fan of your’s.
Married with a great wife and 9 year old son, fight the fight for what is yours. The dirt bath is forever but life is just a pebble on the beach. George (44)from ct. I know.

patty manning | 12/31/2008, 12:37 am EST

Steven, went to the GnR concert in Grove City, Ohio just to see you, imagine my surprise when they replaced you with some fat guy, also watched you on Dr Drew, please keep up the fight, because the only way out of that Heroin shit is death, trust and believe in yourself, and don’t put your wife through having to look at you in a pine box. Much love and stay strong.

Sarah | 1/2/2009, 3:59 pm EST

Steven You where my favorite on the show. and I and my roommates have always loved G.N.R.! I hope you get the creative spirit you need to keep rocking out on those drums, and never turn to drugs again. However you do live in Cali and the medical buds are legal if you get a prescription, I see nothing wrong with just chillen on weed. Just please leave the fucking Heroine Alone! Love ya!

paquette6868 | 1/5/2009, 12:46 am EST

steven u rock dude stay clean

MelissaRenee | 1/8/2009, 7:45 pm EST

Steven i love you! you need to stay sober. really. your so far deep into your addiction and you need to stop before you overdose and kill yourself. your a gorgous person and dont deserve what you did to yourself. you have a beautiful wife and a bright future ahead of you your still young and have a fighting chance at a great life. stay sober we all love you. and never forget to smile.

Suzanne | 1/11/2009, 5:29 pm EST

Steve:
I watch you on Celeb Rehab every week and I have been shocked at what heroin did to you. My husband and I are in much the same predicament, It is such a battle to stay clean, we met in N.A. stayed clean for so many years and the devil caught up to us again. Dont listen to a word the negative people say about being a dope fiend and deserving what you get. ADDICTION IS A DESEASE MY FRIEND. As everyone keeps saying you do have a wonderful, loving wife, but you have to stay clean for YOU, no one else, this is something my husband and I have such a hard time with also. Thank god she is not an addict, two together, well…..what can I say, almost impossible. ALmost wish I was a celeb so I could be counseled by Dr. Drew.
Hang in there Steve, please try to look back at what you are and have in your heart.

blzr | 1/15/2009, 11:45 am EST

You are what made GNR. Screw them !! Get yer own band dude and sucess will follow. You got more raw talent in yer little finger than the whole GNR band has now. KEEP IT REAL !!!!

Carolyn | 1/19/2009, 2:52 pm EST

Steven – As I type, I am watching you on Sober House. I hope for YOU and your future that you can find the strength to do what you need to do to secure yourself a safe and sober future. Good luck to you. Be strong and believe in yourself.

thegreyareadrummer | 1/19/2009, 10:06 pm EST

I dono if you actually see these man but I am also a drummer and an addict of which I will not say. I have seen alot of you in me on the treatment shows and i think its alot to do with the rebellion and anger we hold. Im pullin for ya dude. Keep tough and dont let that stuff control ya man.

Jim | 1/22/2009, 9:42 pm EST

WTF Sarah…you are telling an addict that smokin a little “bud” is ok………please, leave the advice to the professionals…..sheeze!!!

Chris | 1/22/2009, 10:12 pm EST

i hope you hit the heroin hard next time and have another stroke. damn you sound like a clown..kinda like you got shit in your mouth lol…

Laura Lei | 1/22/2009, 10:13 pm EST

I slept with Steve off/ on during the early 90s and i can tell ya drugs aren’t the answer- i almost lost my life twice..not worth it. he’s a really nice guy deep down inside..

Beerman27 | 1/23/2009, 1:09 am EST

I kno that everyone feels sorry for Steven and wants him to pull through but I just finished watching the second episode of sober house and I was dissapointed in Steven. All the other addicts deal with the same strong addictions and showed up at sober living ready to change their life and were sober. Steven shows up loaded and even after being caught gets loaded the next day causing a lot of trauma for the other patients. At some point Steven is going to have to make the commitment to staying sober b/c right now he’s just heading for destruction! So far he’s made an ads out of himself and were not even sure if he’ll be able to come back to the show after leaving with the police!

Janet from NJ | 1/23/2009, 8:13 am EST

I am very worried about Steven and I cannot figure out for the life of me why this guy isn’t on methadone? Wouldn’t that help him during his recovery process? Seems quitting cold turkey is dangerous and so much more risky for relapse. I pray he gets help – how did Nikki Sixx get clean? He was a die hard heroin addict and is clean now – Nikki please help Steven!

PlanoGal | 1/23/2009, 11:03 am EST

I really feel for Steven. Does anyone know of a web site we can write to give him encouragement to get sober? You can see his pain and he’s one of those addicts that will not quit until he’s dead. I wish Slash or someone from GNR would step up to support him, if he had that then maybe he would have a reason to get sober. He was friends with Slash as teenagers. I guess you really find out who your friends are. Is there anything we can do to support him????

c | 1/23/2009, 1:33 pm EST

Watching Steven in Celebrity Rehab, and now in Sober House is painful. How he can go through what he did on Sober House epi 2 and still live is incredible. I feel we will continue to see him on these shows until we see the camera go off him one day because he has flatlined.

Kimmie | 1/23/2009, 11:41 pm EST

Steven you are so adorable and it breaks my heart into pieces seeing what you’re doing to yourself. i will keep you in my prayers for you to get clean and stay clean. Addiction is tough in any form but we love you and still want you around to bring us all hope. It’s not worth it and you have so much talent to still give us.God Bless you our friend.

LiveSimply101 | 1/24/2009, 12:41 am EST

I watched Steven Adler last night on cable show “Sober House” and it ripped my heart out. I’m not a fan of “Guns and Roses” and know very little about them. I, for some reason, have a very soft spot for Steven Adler…I could be his mother and I wish his real mother had never kicked him out at age 11.
I have been praying for Steven as well and I hope he will have the strength and the desire deep in his gut to stop doing drugs of all sorts and turn his life around and stand in the light and love of Jesus Christ. God loves you Steven!
Forgiveness will set you free!

barry in missouri | 1/24/2009, 11:22 am EST

as a recovering alkie i know that it takes all you got to want to stop and change i hope that that it is steves bottem. cause he can alwasy go out and find a lower bottem to hit addiction is not perty. we hurt everyone around us some times more then us.

DAWORMO | 1/24/2009, 1:40 pm EST

I thought I had hope for the guy maybe I still do. He will go down as another self inflicted death by his own choice. His friends will be bummed for a while saying what a great guy he was in life blah blah blah but at the end of the day he will be a microscopic footnote. Maybe his video footage from loser celebrity has-been rehab will be featured in the next “Faces of Death” DVD. Does that sound harsh? Not nearly as harsh as working your ass off to kill yourself.

Steven: | 1/24/2009, 2:07 pm EST

I hope and pray that you can find the strength to beat your addiction. You’re such a sweet, talented, likeable, caring guy when you’re sober. Seeing you on episode 2 of Sober House made me want to cry. Lots of hugs and a kick in the ass, Bambi

the kid | 1/24/2009, 11:51 pm EST

COCKHANDLE….. your a piece of shit, steven adler is a good funny guy who cares about everyone as seen on the shows…. he just has a serious seriosu drug addicitoin, what gives u the right to say all that shit. u kno what u should fuckin die u fuckin clown

SOME DOOD | 1/25/2009, 1:10 am EST

HIS WIFE NEEDS TO DUMP THAT ZERO AND GET WITH THIS HERO!!

Been there | 1/25/2009, 12:39 pm EST

Addiction is a disease, like heart disease. The only difference is you have to want the cure bad enough to change your lifestyle. There is no pill to fix it. No one can make you better. You can’t do it for you husband, your wife, girlfriend or kids. You have to do it for you!

LMAO | 1/25/2009, 3:29 pm EST

What a junkie!

ccgirl | 1/25/2009, 4:44 pm EST

I’ve been where he’s been. Pray for him. It is hell to be there whether you’re rich or poor. Addiction doesn’t discriminate.

Steven is going to die.

Too Bad | 1/25/2009, 5:30 pm EST

It’s too bad that Steve fell back into the shit…H is tough to kick…and it’s already ruined his career…It’s got to be tough knowing that a substance can take so much away from such a talented drummer…hang in there Steve, your true fans are rooting for you!

Teacher of hurting kids | 1/26/2009, 11:34 am EST

Mr. Adler,
I have watched celebrity rehab and sober house religiously. My heart goes out to you. You have a wonderful sense of humor and are obviously a very talented man. I wish someone could help you beat the stuff. You did so well for a while. My prayers for your sobriety go out to you.

Was Steven’s wife his former maid? That’s all I can figure. She looks young enough to be his daughter. I wonder if she’d be sticking with him if he had no money.

why people? | 1/28/2009, 7:25 pm EST

I just don’t understand why some people have to be so mean about another persons illness? I mean, really, do you feel better after you say those things? Please people…be loving towards everyone…

tipsymcstagger | 1/28/2009, 10:25 pm EST

Watched Sober House; can I just say how sorry I am for Adler’s addiction? Steven, you need people around you who really want you well. Success will come after you become sober and in touch. My husband was addicted to pain meds because of a crushed spine, but you’re beyond what I have ever seen him do. PLEASE DON’T GIVE UP -BE STRONG, FIGHT THE FIGHT. YOU HAVE A GOD GIVEN TALENT.
XOXOXO

Dont worry one day when your all better you and Slash will reconsile. I wish one day we can meet, and hang together. I think you should do what I do, and Just smoke weed man. Its much safer and much better for you than the smack. God Bless!!!!, and I hope you do well for yourself!!!!! Sincearly, your biggest fan, Caleb Weber

Steve’s fucked. He’s been a blown out junkie far longer than anything else. He just can’t recover. He is an awesome guy but nothing’s going to change. No insight, no answer, no program. If he wasn’t motivated by keeping his job in the biggest band on Earth at the time, or motivated by getting his health back after a stroke, what incentive is left? It’s easier to stay on the gear. He has access to it and he is in constant chase mode. They can medicate him up to the eyeballs, but the moment that runs out with a tolerance as high as his – straight to the gear.

I just hope he becomes the world’s oldest living junkie. If he can’t stay with us straight, then at least we can have him around in some form.

i was a drug addict since the age of 12. I never really considered quitting. now i am a 3x felon and i’ve been clean for 7 yrs. i got my CACI and CACII certificates. helping others overcome their addictions has helped me in continuing to overcome mine. it’s a day to day fight to be free from addictions and if you’ve been there you know that in the blink of an eye we could all be addicts again tomorrow. its easy to stay high-its hard to say goodbye. stay strong steve. don’t let the bs get you down. never give up hope. find out who steve really is and make peace with him.
