Finally, after over a decade of false starts, we will finally get what we’ve all been waiting for: a free bottle of Dr. Pepper. With yesterday’s official confirmation that Guns N’ Roses’ Chinese Democracy is really happening, the makers of Dr. Pepper announced their plan to make good on their promise to provide everyone with free soda. “We never thought this day would come,” said Dr. Pepper vice president of marketing Tony Jacobs, “but now that it’s here all we can say is: The Dr Pepper’s on us.” Starting November 23rd, the day Chinese Democracy hits Best Buy, you can head over to the Dr. Pepper website and register your information to receive a coupon which can be redeemed for a free 20-ounce pop. However, any dreams you fostered about drinking your free Dr. Pepper while headbanging to Democracy will have to wait four-to-six weeks, the estimated delivery time to get your coupon in the mail. Still, what’s four-to-six weeks when we’ve already waited fourteen years?

Dr Pepper has had all this free marketing up to this point and Im Glad that they are actually going through wih their promise. What can I get for Free when Dr Dre’s new record Drops ? This is a form of new marketing where the advisitor can piggyback off a artist. Is it ethical ? and what recourse would an artist have…. Say Preperation H offers a free tube of Lube if this artist releases a record, I dont think many artists would want that.

David | 10/23/2008, 11:02 am EST

Why does the Best Buy website say 11/25?

NutureMyPig | 10/23/2008, 11:16 am EST

Huh. Only 14 songs? Should be, like, 400.

DeadHorse | 10/23/2008, 1:04 pm EST

I’m sooooooooooo entering my name as Buckethead

Andrew the English bloke | 10/24/2008, 4:38 am EST

Dammit, no free DP for me, i live in England!!

Tim | 10/24/2008, 1:08 pm EST

Joe | 10/24/2008, 4:31 pm EST

1980 Eagles break up
1994 Eagles release “Hell Freezes Over” with exactly 4 songs of new material.

Where’s the outrage?

teal | 10/24/2008, 10:29 pm EST

dr. pepper has gotten themselves into an expensive predicament.

idiots: if you want to hear slash, listen to velvet revolver. if you want to hear guns n’ roses, buy the new album. axl is guns n’ roses.

ritchie beekman | 10/25/2008, 1:11 pm EST

axl is probably the best singer/songwriter since bruce springsteen. a night in a hot tub with broooooce and axl is my idea of a hot, bubbly time

Erin | 10/27/2008, 1:25 pm EST

Guns N’ Roses ended when slash left the band. Axl kicked out one the best guitar players. That’s when that great band ended, it will never comeback.

39 yr old w/future gunner kids | 10/29/2008, 2:32 pm EST

This is an epic and historical Rock-N-Roll album that is a prelude to what is yet to come. This is going to be a beckoning call to young ears and future fans that there really is such a thing as a “ROCKSTAR”. Not nostalgia but a band of past and present that will get radio and what use to be MTV into what Rock is can still be again. If you are curious about how Guns N’ Roses came about and how it developed to today read Watch You Bleed, The Saga of Guns N’ Roses in bookstores today.

gnrlax | 11/13/2008, 9:45 pm EST

Yeah !! AXL ROSE is Guns n Roses!!
Chinese Democracy starts Nov 23th

Sammy | 11/19/2008, 10:46 am EST

You suckers are still hanging on to shitty-ass cheese rockers. Good Lord, move on already! Axl Rose should be playing gigs with the likes of Great White in shit hole, dive bars with cheap flamable ceilings. Support new artists, there are really good ones believe it or not. Oceansize, Menomena, Grizzly Bear, Low, Elbow, Baroness, …And You W ill Know Us By the Trail of Dead, just to name a few. Look them up, try something new, and fuck Axl Rose in the pooper.

Phil E. Drifter | 11/20/2008, 4:24 am EST

Sammy don’t you feel dum now?

DangerGnat | 11/21/2008, 11:15 am EST

Trade my e-mail right to privacy for a free Dr. Pepper, then wait 4 to 6 weeks for a coupon? No thanks.

FreedomRock | 11/23/2008, 10:32 am EST

Seems that drpepper.com is down.
Thats one way to get out of giving away free soda.

blue | 11/23/2008, 11:49 am EST

Sammy, those bands are new in comparison to GNR or what? If you meant just new in general, I think you should know your beloved bands a little better. More likely you’re some dumb kid who’s jealous that he missed a few cool eras in music while he was still in diapers. Menomena was playing forever before they released the stuff you’ve probably heard. And what happens when 10 years passes for Trail of Dead—whoops, already has. Are they off your “good music” list now?

Plenty of new bands are great, but it doesn’t mean GNR or any other older band can’t be. Why don’t you try actually listening to music and learning about it before you go preaching to others? Good luck separating yourself from the “I only like the coolest stuff, I swear, I swear!” herd.

DeniseG | 11/23/2008, 12:28 pm EST

What a rotten way for Dr Pepper to not honor their promise….have problems with their website… Convienent????

GNRfromtheWomb | 11/23/2008, 4:01 pm EST

I WANT MY DR PEPPER!!!!!
THIS IS CRAP

PB | 11/23/2008, 5:18 pm EST

I logged on this morning to get the free coupon. It was moving slow, but it worked. I think their server just can’t handle traffic. They probably weren’t anticipating the traffic. Don’t think they even thought the album would be released before the end of 2008.

Flamethrower Sodadrinker | 11/23/2008, 5:59 pm EST

This is insane! A record store in Berkeley has been selling the cd since tuesday as “an import from Canada” and so I want my mutherfuckin Pepper now! I ain’t waiting no 4 – 6 weeks, just like i wasn’t going to wait no more days and went down to Rasputin Music and picked up my GnR CD toot sweet. Fuck Best Buy and fuck DR.Pepper! Strike! Strike! Strike! Strike! Strike ! Strike! Strike! Strike!

Hopscotch. | 11/23/2008, 6:03 pm EST

A record store in Berkeley, Rasputin Music has been selling the cd since this past tuesday as Canadian import. Most of the squatter kids who are into G’nR have taken it upon themsevles to liberate cans of Dr. Pepper from area stores who have not yet endorsed the new album.

screw this | 11/23/2008, 6:06 pm EST

its not worth the wait just to get 1 free 20oz. Dr peppr sux anyway after this theyll suck even more

Strike first. | 11/23/2008, 6:06 pm EST

Rasputin Music in Berkeley has somehow been selling the CD a week early as a Canadian import. Most stores on Telegraph ave (the same street as the record shop) is giving away free cans today and tomorrow…all you have to do is ask or show a proof of purchase.

L.R. | 11/23/2008, 6:10 pm EST

Tear down the walls! Free soda for the people, lame g’n r for the people! What do we want??? SOAD!!! When do we want it??? NNNNNNOOOOOOWWWWWW!!!

Up against the wall motherfuckers!

…oh and Trail Of Dead ceased being an important band years ago.

Sippin' and shiftin' | 11/23/2008, 6:13 pm EST

Ha ha! Amoeba Music blows! They don’t have it; Rasputin got the jump on those stupid hippies. Plus Amoeba jacks their prices so much, serves them right!

Anonymous | 11/23/2008, 6:15 pm EST

Bro, Trail Of Dead hasn’t been a relevant band in over ten years. Just wander down to Austin, TX and ask anyone and everyone. They were/are a huge disappointment. Much like G n R.

Anonymous | 11/23/2008, 6:17 pm EST

For those of you trying to get your Dr Pepper through the website, you might not be able to access it – I think their servers are down. Try calling 1 888 DRPEPPER… you might have to be on hold for a while, but it’s probably better than trying through the website. I think lots of people are trying to get their Dr Pepper.

Mr. Pibb | 11/23/2008, 6:23 pm EST

What a cheesy ploy by the folks at Dr Pepper. Seriously.

It’s not like they had a handful of minor glitches that were fixed…we’re talking glitches that have been present since the promotion began. And not a hint of an explanation on their web site?

Sadly, we’re all clamoring for a free bottle of sugar water while an obviously lame company collects information about us.

The solution is simple: Stop wasting your time on the Dr Pepper web site, vow to never purchase it again, and maybe spend what’s rest of the evening with your family. You may even consider venturing outdoors. Godspeed.

Billie | 11/23/2008, 8:02 pm EST

Of Course.

I drank 2 cases of Diet Dr. Pepper a week. Thats over 100 cases a year, and $400 a year for Dr. Pepper.

I have just sworn off Dr. Pepper products until Nov. 23rd, 2009. That’s a $400 loss for wasting my time, Dr. P.

Pepsi anyone??

Laurie | 11/23/2008, 10:04 pm EST

Took me all day to finally get to the part where you submit your address, and all I get when I press “submit” is this:

Fatal error: Call to undefined function mysql_connect() in C:\inetpub\websites\CodeAndThe ory\freeDrPepper\account\sql.p hp on line 29

WTF is that supposed to mean? I’ve even tried it with different browsers, but same gobbledygook.

Sammy | 11/24/2008, 8:07 am EST

This shit is hilarious! Axl Rose fans are obviously the smartest folks in the world. Also, by saying NEW music, I mean under-rated bands that get no radio attention, due in part by assholes supporting douchbags who whore themselves for soda companies. Support an artist that actually needs the money to continue what they do, make real music from the fucking heart.

Anonymous | 11/27/2008, 3:12 pm EST

“i love dr.pepper
the song “Better” on Chinese Democracy is the shit!!!!!

this is that I think about it:

Ryan | 12/3/2008, 5:21 am EST

Dr. Pepper is a very dishonest company and someone should start a boycott of the company because of them not holding up their end of the promise they made to giveaway a free 20oz Dr. Pepper to everyone.

I’m ready to start a nationwide boycott, any volunteers??

Mark | 12/30/2008, 2:01 am EST

I feel bad for those of you who can’t fill out a form on Dr. Peppers site. I filled it out on November 23rd, and yesterday I got my coupon for a free Dr. Pepper, so it did work, it just took a month to get.

Natalie | 1/7/2009, 2:10 am EST

Natalie | 1/7/2009, 2:12 am EST

Jacked-in-the-back | 10/19/2009, 6:07 am EST

GnR needs to climb out their self infliction, get some energy and write some heart-to heart lyrics about corporate greed and the seduction of money.
Dr. Pepper promotions, all, are geared to not paying off. The company designs their promotions to frustrate their customers. Pepper needs to go down the tube. Hey don’t buy their products. Reduce their sales and maybe some investor will buy them out and return the company to some kind of ethical business it once was.
