Guns N’ Roses Return To Radio With “Chinese Democracy”

10/22/08, 9:10 am EST

Radio listeners were rewarded for their years of patience this morning when rock stations across the country added Guns n’ Roses’ official new single “Chinese Democracy” to their playlists. (A few hours later, the band confirmed news of the album’s November 23rd Best Buy arrival — and Dr. Pepper has laid out plans to distribute all that free soda). The track marks the first time a Chinese Democracy song has been officially released to radio, as opposed to leaked. As promised, Axl Rose announces his return with a scream before the full guitar assault shows up. The song is comparable to the leaked versions that have emerged, but even on an Internet stream the sound quality is clearly superior. So was it worth the wait? Listen here and decide for yourself:

After just 24 hours, the band’s reps report that it got a whopping 683 full-length spins on the radio Chinese Democracy, as we told you, will hit Best Buy stores on November 23rd.

Anonymous | 10/22/2008, 9:57 am EST

listening to the intro… almost reminds me of the intro to Zooropa…

Brandon | 10/22/2008, 10:11 am EST

This is a good song, the single Better should have been the first release. It is awesome.

Anonymous | 10/22/2008, 10:13 am EST

SEBOS, learn how to speak English! This track is great, and this album will be even greater!

a1rhendr1x | 10/22/2008, 10:21 am EST

This isn’t cool at all. I stopped listening at the guitar solo. I thought the chorus was nonexistent. Where are the hooks? Fail.

SLATER | 10/22/2008, 10:21 am EST

THIS SONG ROCKS WELCOME BACK AXL

JC | 10/22/2008, 10:24 am EST

Fantastic work by Axl and the boys, especially bucket and bumblefoot

ErEr | 10/22/2008, 10:26 am EST

Ofcourse it was worth the wait..!!

Nate | 10/22/2008, 10:27 am EST

Ah, this is great! People need to get over themselves and just accept the music for what it is — freakin’ awesome!

Roy | 10/22/2008, 10:27 am EST

The song rocks!!!! F*&îng awesome!!!!

ALEC | 10/22/2008, 10:31 am EST

CHINESE DEMOCRACY STARTS NOW! This song kicks ass!!!!

Harry | 10/22/2008, 10:33 am EST

Awesome new sound from Axl and the new GNR, simply awesome! It’s definately not old GNR, but the new guitar players are fantastic.

Dave | 10/22/2008, 10:34 am EST

The only people who wont like it are the Nirvana fans who are pissed that there is a new GNR album and nothing from kurt kobain.

jimmy | 10/22/2008, 10:35 am EST

This is crap. Slash, Izzy and Duff aren’t even on the song.

It’s not Guns N’Roses. What a swindle !

Illustrious | 10/22/2008, 10:35 am EST

This song is the perfect single, an updated version of the classic GNR sound…..I can’t stop playing it.

Dave | 10/22/2008, 10:36 am EST

The song sounds great, its better than the new metallica and AC DC, people need to get over the fact Slash is not in the band. This song is by far ahead of anything VR did and that was 2/4s of the orginial bands song writers.

Drew | 10/22/2008, 10:37 am EST

Great song!!!

Anonymous | 10/22/2008, 10:37 am EST

This song rocks

stupid anonymous | 10/22/2008, 10:37 am EST

SEBOS was’nt speaking, he was writing. And, you are defending,,,,Gun’s and Rose’s, a crappy band, and a sh#tty album. Also, no one cares about what you think the “intro” sounds like.

slash07 | 10/22/2008, 10:43 am EST

oh yeah, it trully kicks ass, they’re back and our time is coming (for diehard fans)

Anonymous | 10/22/2008, 10:44 am EST

The song is … okay. But certainly nothing special. Doesn’t live up to 1/1000th of the hype.

Gunner | 10/22/2008, 10:47 am EST

The Song f*cking rocks. Better than all the crap out there. And people get over the fact that Slash isnt in the album, his last two records with Velvet Revolver sucked serious balls, theres maybe two decent solos on those two records.

And Stupid anonymous, i think you’re username desribes you perfectly.

Andrew the English bloke | 10/22/2008, 10:48 am EST

So, Axl has spent the last 14/15 years doing nothing but listening to Metallica and NIN.

anonymous | 10/22/2008, 10:50 am EST

this song rocks hard! Axl took a while but brought a cool new sound to rock.

fidodido | 10/22/2008, 10:51 am EST

i like it, pure rnr

Sam | 10/22/2008, 10:51 am EST

I love it

Gwen | 10/22/2008, 10:55 am EST

I admit that I would prefere it with Slash and Duff on guitar and bass but that doesn’t mean the song doesn’t rock. I love it, good job from Axl. It could have been released a little sooner though.

Stop dissing other bands/fans, it’s annoying.

Mike | 10/22/2008, 10:56 am EST

The Song is a great opening to what will be a monumental Album

Hunter | 10/22/2008, 10:56 am EST

EXCELLENT!!!! I am so, so happy.

Jarma | 10/22/2008, 10:58 am EST

I don’t get all the Axl haters…if you don’t like the song or album so much why are you writing it down in the comments of the article?? You apparently care enough to waste your time on talking about the band…that’s for sure. You know why? Because you’re all phonies. You don’t really like music and know nothing about it. Lyrically and musically, this song is incredible. It may not be your poppy catchy hit you wished for…but, talent wise, it blows away anything you listen to…and that’s a FACT. W. Axl Rose is one of the most taltented musicians and songwriters of our generation. Deal with it. Just because he’s too bad ass for you to like…doesn’t mean you can bash him blindfolded. Open your mind. And face the facts, Axl Rose is better than you’ll ever be. And that eats you up inside…

Tim | 10/22/2008, 11:00 am EST

Its trendy to hate everything and jump on stuff like this. But Really, I haven’t heard something this well put together in years. I imagine the whole record will be a string of great songs.

sebos=fuckstick | 10/22/2008, 11:01 am EST

awesome first single.. cant stop listening

Schultz | 10/22/2008, 11:02 am EST

Why is everyone wetting themselves over this song? It is good and I like it, but man, it isn’t sliced bread and it definitely isn’t original. After 13 years you would think the second coming of Gn’R would deliver a bit more…

toby | 10/22/2008, 11:03 am EST

10 years for that!??? Come on now you can hear it was written, hmmm maybe 8 years ago.

Andz | 10/22/2008, 11:04 am EST

Oh my god! I was going to be disappointed, but what a fuck?! Axl really get it. It rocks like a hell. Now I’m gonna buy Chinese Democracy.

Jeff | 10/22/2008, 11:05 am EST

*sniffles* I wanted Slash, Duff, and Matt in the band to contribute half-assed generic Velvet Revolver-sounding stuff. Boo-hooooooooooo…

This ROCKS. CHINESE DEMOCRACY STARTS NOW!!

a1rhendr1x | 10/22/2008, 11:05 am EST

Honestly, I think I would have liked this a little better had Axl not insisted on clinging to the G n’ R name. If you call your band Guns n’ Roses, you had damn well better sound kinda like Guns n’ Roses.

Jacoby | 10/22/2008, 11:12 am EST

anyone who trashes this song does not know anything about rock, this tune is better than anything being played on the radio today. This is just the first tune, the album has much better songs that scream hit on it. Axl delivered, a little late but he delivered. All the Axl bashers just want to bash him because its the popular thing to do, but this song is good!

Jacoby | 10/22/2008, 11:20 am EST

oh and by the way…Axl is clinging onto the GNR name because it is his! He bought rights to the name Guns N Roses back in 1991 when slash, duff, and co sold it over to him. Funny how everyone screams for the old gnr to get back together yet Velvet Rev is basically GNR minus Axl and those records blew big time. This is fresh sound, tons of guitar licks everywhere! Someone posted about no chorus??? sweet dude go back to 1988

wheresslash | 10/22/2008, 11:24 am EST

new GNR = new sound!
excellent!

100 times better than anything we’re getting today.

ROCKON!!!!

Swingline | 10/22/2008, 11:26 am EST

..and if you don’t like Winger, you know nothing about rock music, your ears must be stuffed full of crap and therefore unable to process sweet melodies like the golden set the rests upon my all-knowing head.

JACKSPARROW | 10/22/2008, 11:27 am EST

This song rocks!!! I love it!!
and CD was not even among my favourite leaks..

cant wait for CHINESE DEMOCRACY!!!

bobofran | 10/22/2008, 11:28 am EST

AWESOME SINGLE !!!!!!

GNR ROCKS !!!

the rubes | 10/22/2008, 11:28 am EST

If you care about duff & slash listen to velvet revolvers last album… The song ROCKS!!! The bottom line is that it truly rocks. So what it took a few years – maybe we’d have better music if more artists did that. I have already listened to this song more then Metallica’s last effort. Axl thanks I’m a fan AGAIN!

Joel | 10/22/2008, 11:31 am EST

So glad this is the first single. It Rocks!!!

JOE | 10/22/2008, 11:32 am EST

RIGHT ON TARGET AXL. I dont give a FUCK how long or with whom it took you to craft this. GREAT SONG!!!

Blake | 10/22/2008, 11:32 am EST

Should have been “Better”

Graham | 10/22/2008, 11:35 am EST

This song rocks. It’s quick and to the point. A lot of things catch your ear. Axl’s grungy vocals layered in behind are his vintage flaseto vocals. The guitar especially in the Verses have a ton of balls. This song has serious groove

Curt | 10/22/2008, 11:37 am EST

Whoa. didnt expect anything this good.

Dont understand what people talking about “not exeeding the hype” are talking about.

What hype?

Jeroen Beers | 10/22/2008, 11:37 am EST

The best way to come back to the radio and hopefully soon the television.

Chinese democracy is the first single to arive on radio.. let’s hope they can keep it up with the good works.

Chinese democracy nov 23rd!

Adam | 10/22/2008, 11:42 am EST

This song is alright. I just want my free Dr. Pepper dangit.

ugh | 10/22/2008, 11:42 am EST

Song sucks, but what the hell do you expect? It’s not GNR, it’s Axl Rose with a bunch of other random people.

AXLE FAN | 10/22/2008, 11:44 am EST

Well it really doesn’t matter what he sings, cause his voice is awesome, no the song may not be a hit but its what his true fans have been waiting on, new music from him!

Exiled | 10/22/2008, 11:46 am EST

1. Fuck Axl Rose for taking the money and running by selling his soul to Best Buy; as if he needed the money. All the $$$ I spent on him and his music over the years and now that I run my own independent record store (similar to one where I went to a midnight sale to get both Use Your Illusion albums 17 years ago), I’m not even allowed to try to sell it to help keep myself in business. As much of a tool as all of the members of Metallica have become, at least they still sold their lame attempt at reclaiming their glory at stores other than Wal-Mart and Best Buy. Needless to say, the album sales are going to be ridiculously high for this but I’ll be “borrowing” my copy from the interweb after it’s release.

2. The song is mediocre and derivative of lots of music that has been done by others over the last 2 decades. He is, and has been trying too hard for a long long time, but at least he’s getting it out before he kicks the bucket so there will be no “what could have been” talk. Nothing he ever does will ever be as good as Appetite for Destruction and I’m sure that’s hard to deal with.

3. AC/DC has been making the same album since Bon Scott died. Look it up, it’s true.

Anonymous | 10/22/2008, 11:46 am EST

The disc will sell 10 times more than the new Metallica shit.
Rock on Axl!

Jarma | 10/22/2008, 11:47 am EST

Axl uses the “Guns n Roses” name because he owns the rights. Do you know why he wanted the right?!? Because the name SELLS and makes MONEY!!! Anybody who questions this fact…clearly knows nothing about marketing. How well did Billy Corgans solo cd do? Chris Cornells? Anybodys for that matter?!? Guns n Roses the name is one of the most popular names in Rock n Roll right now…the name alone sells hundreds of thousands if not millions of copies. Anyone who doesn’t understand this is a moron.

Chris | 10/22/2008, 11:47 am EST

New Metallica’s better. This isn’t bad, but it’s not that great.

Bill | 10/22/2008, 11:48 am EST

Welcome Back W. Axl Rose. You haters are all going to eat your hats when you realize how ridiculously badass the album is going to be. No fillers, and the best Rock in 15 years (at least). This is only the beginning. What a great day. November 23rd can’t get hear fast enough!

brad | 10/22/2008, 11:49 am EST

this is a great song – the best song i’ve heard in years…actually the best song i’ve heard since the original band broke up.

This mastermind will outsell the new metallica album 100 times, to hell with the bashers and idiots who newer belived! Each day from now i will have a little laugh on you idiots!

KPMG | 10/22/2008, 11:54 am EST

Does’nt sound half as bad as I thought it would, but am I the only one who thinks the thunderous riff in the beginning sounds staight out of Scorpions “Rock you like a hurricane”…?

baz | 10/22/2008, 11:56 am EST

Nice one!!!! Very nice!!!

Metalhead | 10/22/2008, 11:56 am EST

Didnt think the new guns would be as good as this, and i dont think Slash could play the guitar like that. Awesme song, now stick that in your pipe and smoke it emo bitches

Jimbo Hank Bobby | 10/22/2008, 11:58 am EST

I thought it was alright. Nothing amazing. That’s the problem with waiting 73 years to put out your album; expectations will be astronomical. But I digress. I thought the song was very over-produced and over-engineered.

Jarma | 10/22/2008, 11:59 am EST

Chris,

The new Metallica sound is much better than “St. Flopper”…but James Hetfield’s voice hasn’t been the same since he got burned…while the guitar and such sounds similar to the old days…his voice still has that “Load” and “Reload” feel to it…and it’s disappointing.

And everybody who actually hates this music for any significant reason is comparing it to Appetite for Destruction which was over 20 years ago…how good did that philosophy work for Poison and the others (I still like them though)?? Bon Jovi had to sell out to country because he realized it didn’t work anymore…

It’s just the way it goes…at least this is better than everything else out there…and when you look at the talent involved…WOW AMAZING

hogleg | 10/22/2008, 12:01 pm EST

I can’t really hear Axl’s high pitch background vocals behind his Weiland ripoff lead vocals. I thought VR was supposed to be ripping off GNR, not the other way around!

jacoby | 10/22/2008, 12:07 pm EST

to exiled…you will still get to sell the record in your stores, just not right away. and dude, you think this was all of Axl’s doing? then your a idiot, the record label probably had something to do with it since they spent millions on this record they want to get the $ they have spent back, and selling the rights to best buy is a sure thing….if you dont like the way the industry is now then get out of it! blame the illegal downloads for this, not Axl

NJ | 10/22/2008, 12:09 pm EST

Who is playing guitar on this? Anyone know?

jacoby | 10/22/2008, 12:10 pm EST

hog leg…dude, last time i checked Axl has been around longer than Weiland…have you listened to Its so Easy? Brownstone? Axl is using the same vocal style…get a clue douchebag…your comparing Axl vocal range to Weilands…haha what a joke

Rob, Brighton | 10/22/2008, 12:18 pm EST

Quality! A tad over produced for sure but it still prompts a vicious headbanging routine and a seriously sore neck.

Mickey | 10/22/2008, 12:26 pm EST

Mindblowing song. Truely rocking.

jacoby | 10/22/2008, 12:27 pm EST

i believe the guitar parts are from Bumblefoot, Buckethead, Robin Finck

Gabi Hoopasteak | 10/22/2008, 12:31 pm EST

Not too excited about this song, but I’m really looking forward to the hidden Axl/Lindsay Lohan track!

mmd | 10/22/2008, 12:32 pm EST

Good first single. Wasn’t expecting much but this was actually pretty good. Way better than anything Velvet Revolver ever wrote. And sorry to say metallica’s new single doesn’t sound as good. But thats just me folks so don’t get your panties in a bunch!

Axl’s voice sounded ballsy and incendiary. The guitar riff is straight out of the G N R handbook with that heavy Blues/metal feel. Those solos were absolutely killer! And I hate shredding. Sounds like Axl kept the same guitar tone that Slash made famous with the band all those years ago. It all may seem calculated but what do you expect after being in the studio for like 14 years or so? I mean what album isn’t for that matter? Surprisingly the new single delivers. Can’t wait to hear the other tunes. We’ll see.

Nero | 10/22/2008, 12:33 pm EST

I like it. I’d give it 4 stars (out of 5). I think some of the other songs like “If the World” and “There was a Time” are better, but this still rocks.

@NJ: The Solos and all the weird stuff is Buckethead, the verses are done by Bumble.

James | 10/22/2008, 12:50 pm EST

amazing song! Best rock song in , well since gnr last released music, keep it up Axl, we are all in for th3e ride. Bumblefoot rocks during the verses of this song.

Shogun_Al | 10/22/2008, 12:56 pm EST

Don’t even care anymore.
GnR died after the Illusion albums.

j | 10/22/2008, 12:58 pm EST

First off this song rocks-period. I feel Axls vocals did not need to be doubled. The lead guitar is a little too much shredding..some (noisy) notes that did not need to be in there. Maybe if the lead guitar was not mixed as loudly as it was it would sound better. Just my two cents. I am overall impressed with this song.

Doctor Mabuse | 10/22/2008, 1:00 pm EST

Third-rate GNR song–definitely not worth the wait.

Capt. Ron | 10/22/2008, 1:01 pm EST

Great song. It is a nice mix of the old and the new. Hard not to get this one stuck in your head that’s for sure!

Egg95 | 10/22/2008, 1:05 pm EST

WOW!! I really love Guns ‘N’ F’n Roses, but was NOT expecting much here.

But this is much better than i thought! If this is what we can expect then they are back & they are huge!!…again!

Alex | 10/22/2008, 1:14 pm EST

“1. Fuck Axl Rose for taking the money and running by selling his soul to Best Buy; as if he needed the money. All the $$$ I spent on him and his music over the years and now that I run my own independent record store”

You seem pretty stupid for having your own store…you should know that Geffen sold the rights to Best Buy to recoup their losses on album production, which is what caused the long delay in the first place…not Axl Rose.

But hey, continue to be an uninformed idiot.

Vegar | 10/22/2008, 1:15 pm EST

Great song! Axl for president!

Surf City Sounds Plus | 10/22/2008, 1:17 pm EST

A Axel Rose/Mick Jagger duet! Anything can happen in rock n’ roll. Should sell.

Metallica Sucks

Eze | 10/22/2008, 1:30 pm EST

I like it, but the internet version whose vocals are not doubled is better than this one.
Why double the vocals?? Not necessary.

The intro is so cool!!!
And the guitars DO rock!

I give it 3.5/5

The Prez | 10/22/2008, 1:31 pm EST

Good tune. Great song.
GN’R finally back! It was about time, also if the album sucks, I’m just glad they’re back! They are rock n’ roll!! Up to the next album! ;-)

mtek | 10/22/2008, 1:31 pm EST

This is a good first single but the killer tunes, like “Better”, “Street of Dreams”, “There Was a Time” and “Catcher in the Rye” among a few unheard other are what will blow people’s minds away. Just wait and see…

tim | 10/22/2008, 1:42 pm EST

Sounds great

Ary | 10/22/2008, 1:47 pm EST

Axl…Im sorry, but this is not sex, drugs and rock n roll any more,Where are the missing your verses, your appearance…
without Slash and Duff, this is no longer and will never be Guns n Roses.
This is your verses -
Whatever happened to sex, drugs and rock n r oll,
Now we just have AIDS,crack and techno….
But now…you are doing techno…
It was true when you was say
-Nothing leasts forever even cold november rain-

CAM | 10/22/2008, 1:48 pm EST

Meh. I listened. It’s already gone. The scream was good, but that deep voice of his and the high layered one? The only thing I remember from listening is the word masterbation. So, meh.

surforia | 10/22/2008, 1:53 pm EST

Love the song… the lyrics are clearly about the old band. “It would take a lot more time than you have got for masturbation” – ie, you left GnR and you weren’t patient enough to release the material. “All I’ve got is precious time.” I can wait 14 years to release it, and it will still be huge.

Tyson | 10/22/2008, 1:54 pm EST

This is a very strong song and a great way to kick off the album. I can’t wait for the release date!

Horrible! I see a lot of great comments on this song. I think it sucks! How can anyone be excited for this when its not actually Guns & Roses! Its an Axl Rose solo album people and it sucks!

adman | 10/22/2008, 2:06 pm EST

Meh.

José | 10/22/2008, 2:08 pm EST

Bloated, dated and not very good.

Raulinc | 10/22/2008, 2:25 pm EST

DREXLER | 10/22/2008, 2:28 pm EST

I thought it was average. Some of the others I’ve heard are far superior and I think they will do much much better on the radio. I guess he has to start out with a more badass tune and then slip the more subtle ones in later.

75believers | 10/22/2008, 2:43 pm EST

Great song, exactly like the old material. Well worth the wait. Mostly just excited that Axl isn’t carrying all those hacks like Slash and Duff anymore. Dead weight.

ChrisInBeanTown | 10/22/2008, 2:44 pm EST

What the FUCK did I just listen to?!?!? If this is the “best” they can do after all this wait due to production issues….i mean, what issues were there? Producer: “Axl, man, this fuckin’ sucks…” Axl:”You’re fired…”. Repeat 1,000 times til you get a producer who likes this dreck and wham!:Chinese Democracy. For real? What a complete cornrow-wearing, bucketheaded pathetic joke at an attempted comeback. Seriously Axl, call Slash, offer toss his knob and get back to makin’ some real fuckin music you loser!

Sig | 10/22/2008, 2:47 pm EST

AWESOME song! Guns n Roses (aka Axl) always delivers!

So happy that good music is coming back around!

Anonymous | 10/22/2008, 2:49 pm EST

Drew | 10/22/2008, 1:21 pm EST

Just like the new Metcrapica album, its ok at best…

aren’t u clever, “metcrapica”. the metallica album was actually very good.

Vince | 10/22/2008, 2:52 pm EST

Great song…a throwback to old Guns…very nice!!

Panama Jack | 10/22/2008, 2:58 pm EST

It’s ok, but it’s very generic/forgettable. Hopefully the other tracks on the album will be better. The fact is that after such a long effin’ time waiting for it, some people will be glad with whatever is on Chinese Democracy as long as it’s finally released.

mullethead | 10/22/2008, 2:59 pm EST

Got to love the morons who think they are more of an authority on what is or isn’t Guns N’ Roses than Axl Rose.

This song kicks ass and isn’t even one of the best on the album. All the morons and haters are going to look mighty dumb when Axl conquers the rock world again.

Chinese Democracy will be the best hard rock album in a decade plus, no doubt about it

Bane | 10/22/2008, 3:04 pm EST

Think its a great song, maybe a little overproduced

but really enjoying it

HoodRat | 10/22/2008, 3:14 pm EST

Just wait till u hear all the big guns on the album !!!

Catcher in The Rhy — thats all i need to say !!GnFnRs

Steve | 10/22/2008, 3:16 pm EST

Guns N’ Roses should be on the cover of next months Rolling Stone Magazine. Song Kicks Ass!!

Boga888 | 10/22/2008, 3:26 pm EST

What a kick ass song!!! So what if Axl is the only original member? Axl Rose IS Guns N’ Roses. He’s the reason why you listen to Appetite and all other G n’ R albums over and over again. And why listen to the song anyway? And read this article and even spend your time to post a negative comment when you already know that other original band members are gone? That’s because all you negative f*ckers are sucked into the NEW GUNS N F’N ROSES. Grow up cause CHINESE DEMOCRACY starts NOW!!!

Jacoby | 10/22/2008, 3:32 pm EST

I love how everyone bashing this song has the same argument…”It took so long for this” Last time i checked Axl didnt owe us anything, nor did he ever set any time frame with this record. Stop complaining about the wait and rate this song against music today! Stop comparing it to old guns, that was 20 years ago let it go people, they couldnt re-create AFD even with the old lineup so whats the point of that argument?

Kyle | 10/22/2008, 3:46 pm EST

Axl’s got no range. Don’t you think it’s odd what octave this is in?

Hock Ptooey | 10/22/2008, 3:47 pm EST

Boring.

Brian | 10/22/2008, 3:53 pm EST

Sounds like the old Guns? I can’t believe people actually said that. Did old Guns use generic White Zombie riffs? No? OK, just checking. Not a good song at all.

dirthvader | 10/22/2008, 3:56 pm EST

this song sucks as much as “Oh My God”…. go back into retirement Bill Rose!

Rob | 10/22/2008, 4:01 pm EST

This song is incredible. I let go of expecting this to sound like early 90s Guns a looong time ago. If this song is a reflection of the rest of the new album, I say bring it on!!! Cant wait.

Ellen | 10/22/2008, 4:06 pm EST

YAY! Not horrible! Actually catchy. Oh, and I’m liking Axl’s lower register a lot more than the weird falsetto he’s got goin’ on.

Now, can Velvet Revolver just get an awesome vocalist, so they can put shit out!?!

I wish all these guys well. GNR was my favorite band in high school. Every other girl was into emo, and I just liked the classics – good times.

DC | 10/22/2008, 4:18 pm EST

Call it what you want, just don’t call it Guns & Roses. No Slash, Izzy, or Duff.

Bob | 10/22/2008, 4:22 pm EST

It kinda sound like an over produced Velvet Revolver song. Not bad but doesn’t really live up to the hype of the last 14 years.

chris | 10/22/2008, 4:35 pm EST

wow most of the people who complain only do it because slash and duff are not on it(not just in these comments but in everywhere).also a lot of people don’t mention Izzy he deserves more than he gets he wrote a lot of the songs the old band was not just Axl Slash and Duff. In my opinion this song is great if you do not like it then say a reasonable reason why not just that its not the old GNR or it took to long to make.

Cheese | 10/22/2008, 5:04 pm EST

I think CHRISINBEANTOWN summed it up perfectly with:

What the FUCK did I just listen to?!?!?

What was great about GNR when they burst on the scene is they were different and raw in a world gone glam crap metal.

We waited this long for CRAP? It sounds like any other metal band out there now!

axl88 | 10/22/2008, 5:04 pm EST

fucking awesome!!!!! CHINESE DEMOCRACY STARTS NOW!!

Gronge | 10/22/2008, 5:07 pm EST

Where is my DR. PEPPER!?!?!?!?!

John | 10/22/2008, 5:07 pm EST

Great song, killer guitar, shit on anything VR have done.

The album to save rock music?

ohmygod | 10/22/2008, 5:41 pm EST

I thought the final version was going to sound exactly like the leaked demos. I was so wrong. This sounds amazing! Axl Rose rules!

Rob | 10/22/2008, 6:08 pm EST

Wow, I am surprised that this song is that good. A shame it took so long. I wish the original lineup was still with him but obviously Axl is a control freak. Great song though, I wonder if the band that recorded this song is even with him anymore?

Tiger Vu | 10/22/2008, 6:22 pm EST

The past is the past. The present is the REALITY. The reality states that GUNS N’ ROSES is IMMORTAL and AXL ROSE is INVINCIBLE!

Kenneth | 10/22/2008, 6:31 pm EST

One word. Awesome. Can’t wait to get the cd.

Jason | 10/22/2008, 6:38 pm EST

This song rocks!! If this is a sample of what the rest of the album is like… omg!!! Bring it on!!!

The most anticipated Rock album of the last decade!!!

CHINESE DEMOCRACY!!!!

David | 10/22/2008, 6:51 pm EST

Buckethead saves Axl from obscurity once again!!

David | 10/22/2008, 7:08 pm EST

However, I realize that Axl brought Buckethead into the biggest limelight he (or its) ever had. I just think it’s great that his playing on this song is probably the most listened to in the world right at this moment. Score one for my fellow guitar geeks.

zigman | 10/22/2008, 7:49 pm EST

Wow I am pleasantly surprised just checked out there website gunsnroses. com it sounds better from the stream there than it even did on radio. Wow this might be worth the wait

DaveM | 10/22/2008, 7:51 pm EST

it’s a kick ass song! people please get over Slash and Duff and Izzy are no longer in the band

CT | 10/22/2008, 7:58 pm EST

Brilliant song from a brilliant artist!! High energy, raw and gritty. A bad motherfucker of a song from a bad motherfucker of a songwriter! All you people who keep saying “it took 15 years for this?”…fuck right off!! Seriously!! Did you think after 15 years the music would cure cancer? It’s a fuckin’ rock record and a badass rock song so enjoy it for what it is. A fucking rock song and album!

Michael | 10/22/2008, 8:08 pm EST

Love it, Love it, Love it…and its not even close to being the best song on the album. Of course I still miss Slash and Izzy.

ALBUM OF THE YEAR! | 10/22/2008, 8:11 pm EST

SONG OF THE YEAR!

Jordan | 10/22/2008, 8:15 pm EST

ugh. Awash in mediocrity. Hate it.

Barack Obama | 10/22/2008, 8:16 pm EST

Hi, i’m Barack Obama and i aprove of this message.

Axl Rose still has it and the new guys can play the fuck outta these songs.

Welcome to the 21st century GnR, we Missed You.

Btw, Axl it would be swell if the cd could help boost up the economy with our exports!

FRED | 10/22/2008, 8:24 pm EST

We waited 15 years for this huge turd? What a disappointment!

Damion | 10/22/2008, 8:25 pm EST

Axl is genius. This song kicks ass!!
This album will destroy everything in its path!!

getthedoggie | 10/22/2008, 8:27 pm EST

It took Axl almost 10 years to release THIS ? Come on you guys, it’s pretty generic. Like Mickey Rourke, Axl can make a come back but this may not be the one, we’ll see.

Aaron D. | 10/22/2008, 8:44 pm EST

It’s not that it’s a bad song, but it’s not a good song either. It’s painfully mediocre. A decade in the making for an album that, thus far, sounds ho-hum.

IlzaGilza | 10/22/2008, 9:06 pm EST

Steaming poop…The sorry state of music just got sorry-er. Who would spend a dime on this irrelevant horse crap. I guess ole “Axel” must be feeling the economic strain too to even have the nuts to call this GnR.

Really???? | 10/22/2008, 9:08 pm EST

Guns n’ Roses once were 5 guys living in a one room apartment in LA who rose from squalor to become “the most dangerous band in the world.” Their desperation and combustibility could be heard in their music and at their concerts. A band that at any given moment could either implode or reach untouchable levels of greatness.

Axl and 8 professional musicians is not Guns n’ Roses. Not even close. Hardly dangerous.

mullethead | 10/22/2008, 9:13 pm EST

To the losers who keep talking about waiting 15 years, please be quiet, you’re not fooling anyone

You haven’t been waiting for this album. You’ve been waiting with a pre-written list of complaints to whine about Axl

Axl Foley | 10/22/2008, 9:14 pm EST

Sounds like a banana in the tail-pipe if you ax me.

benny | 10/22/2008, 9:24 pm EST

Good track. Haters go screw.

Name me 1 track playing on the radio that’s a better rock track than this one and I will commend you.

Nickelback? LOL. Fallout Boy? ROFL. Buckcherry? LMAO.

ALL I GOT | 10/22/2008, 9:25 pm EST

IS PRECIOUS TIME

Jungleland2 | 10/22/2008, 9:30 pm EST

Not bad, and this sound is way better than the leaked stuff

Four Nick Eight | 10/22/2008, 9:36 pm EST

All I can say is WOW. Good song. I give it a solid 8 out of 10. Only qualm I really have with it is the lack of a giant chorus. Lyrically it is very good, with the line about “our baby got to rule the nation” particularly catchy. The guitar work and production are top notch. The riffs are just insane, and the double tracking of Axl’s voice is used to great effect here. He sounds very strong vocally on this song. “Chinese Democracy” the song makes “Chinese Democracy” the album worth looking forward to. Hopefully the world that Axl has both manufactured around him and seen pass before his eyes since ruling the world with the worlds’ greatest hard-rock band almost 20 years ago will come through on the rest of the album. The veiled shots to former bandmembers and the paranoia on the “Chinese Demoracy” song have piqued my interest.

B-MAC | 10/22/2008, 9:38 pm EST

They Have saved Rock again… Don’t Hate! nothing can live up to 10 years, but this rocks… killer riff, great lyrics, nobody sounds like this today.

Tazman | 10/22/2008, 9:58 pm EST

People that listen to something one time and make a judgment about it are idiots. I’m sure no one thought that Appetite was a classic on the first listen.

zigman | 10/22/2008, 10:12 pm EST

I can see there are alot of hardcore fans posting. I must say I really liked this on my very 1st listen which is rare so I got to agree with the Axl fan Club. This is not old Guns but guess people need to move on seems Axl did and enjoy it. Beats anything I have heard in a long time. Music has been shit for sometime.

Marc | 10/22/2008, 10:13 pm EST

This song blows…I actually like the live version, but, like I fear the rest of the tracks will be, this song is waaaay overproduced. All the rawness and energy has been taken out of the song.

It’s kind of ironic. Axl dumped everybody because he wanted a more contemporary sound, but this stuff has been sitting on the shelf so long, everything now sounds like it came straight out of 2001.

HHL | 10/22/2008, 10:19 pm EST

It is embarrassing how ill-informed some people are. This is probably the 10th or 11th best track off the 14 track album. There is a WHOLE wave of phenomenal material on the way. When all is said and done, Chinese Democracy will be considered better than the Illusion albums.

Jesus- even Slash has said it’s good (if not something the old band would have never come up with). The haters are a joke.

Joe G the OG | 10/22/2008, 10:58 pm EST

Tazman, AFD came out my junior year in high school and I had that album memorized after about 4 days. Those were the days when AFD, Joshua Tree and Diesel and Dust got some pretty heavy rotation in my friends’ Chevy Chevette tape player. I would say we knew, with all the brashness of youth, that we thought it was an “instant classic”. As far as Chinese Democracy goes, I have heard several demos and I have to say this song is pretty good, but not nearly as good as the epic “Madagascar”, the unique and catchy “Better”, the blistering “IRS”, and a simply awesome power ballad in “If the World”. Either way, it’s coming and damn the torpedoes.

Gus | 10/22/2008, 11:18 pm EST

Great tune…can’t wait to hear the album.

Mike M. | 10/22/2008, 11:33 pm EST

People who are talking trash about this song and Axl before the horse has even left the gate need to shut the F&#K UP!!!!!!!!!

octopus inks | 10/23/2008, 12:04 am EST

verse is good, guitar solo(s) are good, but the whole song doesn’t make me go “it was really worth the wait”. its too bad , i really hoped for more

mark g-force | 10/23/2008, 12:27 am EST

I give it 2 out of 2 stars.

Ali | 10/23/2008, 1:07 am EST

Realistically, what could be worth a 10-15 year wait? Nothing. Just goes to show what a ridiculous expectation that is.

sashascall | 10/23/2008, 1:20 am EST

Man, this is terrible. The solo is sweet but the song blows.

Ali | 10/23/2008, 2:04 am EST

Listened to this song a few times today. Don’t want to spoil the experience of listening to the whole record. It’s not a sugary sweet pop song, and that is fine by me. Rox pretty hard and makes me wanna bang my head.

axlgee | 10/23/2008, 2:09 am EST

Love it!!! Can’t wait for the rest of the album.

Summutha | 10/23/2008, 2:10 am EST

This isn’t the best track off the album, It’s also not the worst.
Look foward to getting the full quality of all the tracks, fed up with the live/un produced leaks I’ve been listening to for the last 3 years.

Spiderface2000 | 10/23/2008, 2:22 am EST

I have been waiting so many years, counting the days checking the web updates , checking the magazines when the internet wasnt even out yet, for NOVEMBER 23RD 2008…I Wanna throw a big Fucking Bash and celebrate, Long Live AXL ROSE, Fuck all you haters, I’ll kick your ass in a drunkin rage…

The Rocker | 10/23/2008, 2:50 am EST

Lame. Boring. Perfect radio rock for the masses.

william_b | 10/23/2008, 3:50 am EST

I can write a song like this in 5 hrs not 12 or 15 years, sorry axl.

anonymous | 10/23/2008, 3:50 am EST

GNR ALWAYS sucked @$$ so how’s it gonna be any better 15 years later? Chinese Democracy is just another bad joke…

wow. | 10/23/2008, 5:42 am EST

I never really liked the fact that people have to bring up how long this album took. I mean, sure, its kind of lame it took that long, but why can’t people listen to music and judge it based on how good the song is, not how long the album took, or who’s in the band?

When i listen to music I take it for what it is, not for the circumstances surrounding its creation.

GrayFox117 | 10/23/2008, 8:18 am EST

finally got to hear the song and I think it’s great!…..I agree with an earlier post in that I could hear that signature bluesy/metal sound of earlier GNR, but with like a modern twist. I was intially afriad it was going to be so kind of techo/industrial wanna be NIN stuff, but I was pleasantly surprise Axl stuck with just straight hard rock (at least for this track)……This is what rock n roll is suppose to sound like (at least in my opinion). I do miss the orignal gangsta’s that were AXL, Izzy, Slash, Duff and Stephen just like everyone else…. but you can’t deny that this song rocks hard. All the powder puff Fall Out Boy’s and Panic at the Disco’s of the world take note, bands like AC/DC, Metallica and Guns N Roses (eh Axl Rose i mean) have brung the heat……even if it is old man style

Jeff | 10/23/2008, 8:56 am EST

William B-

You say you could write a song like this in 15 min huh? Well, why then are we not reading an article about YOUR new album? Likely it is because you are a loser and axl was, is and ALWAYS will be the man. This song rules, GnR rules, ROCK IS BACK!

Craig | 10/23/2008, 9:03 am EST

When did Guns N’ Roses become Korn?

ChrisInBeanTown | 10/23/2008, 9:23 am EST

I keep reading people’s comment’s saying shit like, “this is GREAT!” and “WOW!” and “rock is BACK!!!”….people, if this is the best rock can produce, then i’ll stick to my old albums and wait for someone new to pull a Nirvana/GnR/Led Zeppelin/NIN(pick your poison here) and shake shit up. As for this pile? Keep it. This SUUUUUUUUUCKS.

Robert | 10/23/2008, 9:31 am EST

If Axl Rose and his merry men were playing on my front lawn, I’d close the curtains.
What a douche bag that dude is. He’s a diva not a rock star.

Rob | 10/23/2008, 9:40 am EST

Good worck, but we need Slash in this style.

dissbot 3000 | 10/23/2008, 9:43 am EST

great, but we need Axl and Buckethead together

OBAMA ROSE | 10/23/2008, 9:47 am EST

Axl Rose and Jim Morisson are the BEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11

Jacoby | 10/23/2008, 10:02 am EST

I have read around 10 rock reviews of this song from actual rock critics and they are all saying basically the same thing; Is this song Welcome to the Jungle?…NO…Is this song Paradice City?…NO…but is it a good rock track…YES…was it worth 15 years of waiting, No nothing could be…but does it stand up to any rock track out there today? absolutely.

Aaron D. | 10/23/2008, 10:04 am EST

Guns N’ Roses isn’t back. Axl’s back, and with a sound that would have felt dated 5 years ago. The song just doesn’t do it for me. I’ve heard the other songs too and they just don’t have the “oomph” that rock n’ roll should have.

It’s boring.

Raulinc | 10/23/2008, 10:07 am EST

Lovely Album will Rock!

Daryl Von Viscount IV | 10/23/2008, 10:13 am EST

Sounds like The Darkness meets Korn and a very overproduced version at that.

ryan | 10/23/2008, 11:15 am EST

You can’t polish a turd.

ryan | 10/23/2008, 11:15 am EST

You can’t polish a turd.

guitar_davey | 10/23/2008, 11:21 am EST

I’m sorry, but this is nothing more than Axl and a bunch of hired hands. It’s Guns N Roses in name only unless Paul Tobias and Buckethead are in the band!

Warmer | 10/23/2008, 11:34 am EST

Great song. it just stands out!

Gabe Gonzales | 10/23/2008, 11:39 am EST

sounds OK not great its better than some of the other crap thats out(fall out boy and all the other wristband on the foreman wearing shit and dont forget the headbands)
well wait and see the rest of the album before anybody can make proper judgements.

wow | 10/23/2008, 11:46 am EST

william b is the next coming of prince….he can write better songs than this in 5 hours. That must mean his 3 cd set should be finished and released by tommorrow…i may have to check it out, I think Lane Bryant has the exclusive

whiny | 10/23/2008, 11:59 am EST

wait till you hear the album. this is just the beginning. there are some really good songs on there. much better than this (which is still a solid rocker…)

timras | 10/23/2008, 12:11 pm EST

Terrible! But there are so many idiots out there so i’m sure it will be a hit.

Arijit | 10/23/2008, 1:46 pm EST

Whoever says this is dated like they’re of-so-knowledgeable are kidding themselves. I have a question. Please describe the “sound” of today? If it’s emo, then I’m better off listening to “dated” music. Screw you all. This is gonna be great. I already have 11 of the 14, and they’re really good. One or two in my opinion are masterpieces. Axl knows what he’s doing. If you hate him so much, then why are you here commenting on his music? Porbably coz you’re pissed you can’t claim you were ever a part of the modern era which produced the best bands of all time. All you have is FallOutShit and the like. I pity you chaps.

Dan | 10/23/2008, 1:49 pm EST

I’ve been listening to the leaks for about 2 years now.

the new GNR is better than most radio airplay rock. the new GNR sucks ass compared to the old Slash/Izzy/Axl GNR.

Let’s take a look at the old songs:
Welcome to the Jungle
Sweet Child o’Mine
Mr. Brownstone
Paradise City
Don’t Cry
November Rain
You Could Be Mine

There are some classic songs there.

The new gnr???

“Catcher in the Rye” and “Better” are good songs. Everything else is better than current rock radio, but nothing holds a candle to the old GNR.

In old GNR you had a bunch of guys making kick ass rock. In the new GNR you’ve got Axl trying to sound like nu-metal with a few “classic” sounding gnr songs in there. However, most of the “classic” sounding songs (madagascar, irs, etc) sound more like imitations of the old stuff, and the industrial songs sound like they’re trying too hard.

Basically, the new gnr will be good, if only because axl is a perfectionist. The songs (i’ve heard 9 of the songs) are better than most off what’s on the radio now. However, compared to old GNR, they sound like an over-the hill rock trying to sound modern at times while trying to appease older fans with a “classic” sound at other times.

Chinese Democracy is one of the worst songs on the album. It blows. “Catcher in the Rye” (featuring Brian May of Queen) and “Better” are the two best songs. “IRS” is ok, but it makes me sad to hear someone imitating Slash. Finck is great, but hey just doesn’t have the soulful style of Slash, which with Axl’s vocals and Izzy’s rhythm is what made the original gnr such a success.

Biased listeners | 10/23/2008, 1:59 pm EST

I understand that people may not like the song, and that is fine. But honestly, it sounds like you are not giving it a chance. How many of you still listen to My Morning Jacket and complain that it has also been a revolving door of band members (no one), how many complaints do I hear about Journey with a new lead singer (not many). Why is it that you point the finger at Axl and Guns N Roses?? If you know the history, Guns started with Axl and Izzy, not Slash and the others. I am a fan of good music and this is a solid rock song that shows Axl is not scared to venture into new territory. When U2 does the same thing it is genius, what gives?? seriously, be transparent in your critique.

Skippy | 10/23/2008, 2:17 pm EST

Guys, guys, guys. Never mind this crappy “GnR” new song, if you click on that link to the Q104.3 website, on the right side there’s a link to a Hot Moms contest with plenty of hot looking babes on there! That’s more important than Axl Rod and his make believe band.

GNR2008 | 10/23/2008, 2:18 pm EST

the fact that there are hundreds of posts on this 1 article points out 2 things. 1. that GNR are still relevant today even after 15 years of silence. 2. There are Axl haters out there who would trash this song even if it was the old guns. The dude can’t win no matter what he does. At least he has the b@lls to try something a little different. Poison/Motley Crue/Metallica/Velvet Revolver/ACDC; their albums sound like they are trying to relive the 1980’s…Cudos for Axl to try a new sound…which i think is quite good. Listen to the tune a few times, there is so much going on it takes a few listens to enjoy it.

Joe | 10/23/2008, 2:22 pm EST

Biased listeners, I hear ya. Axl has had this double standard held over him for quite a long time; this whole “Axl/Slash/Izzy/Duff/Steve is GNR” argument doesn’t hold water. I wonder how many people have posted something about the song (good AND bad) without actually listening to it. Axl both earned and paid for the right to keep the Guns N Roses name.

Fausto | 10/23/2008, 2:26 pm EST

How can someone put Jim Morrison and Axl Rose in the same category? Terrible.

JimACNFH | 10/23/2008, 2:27 pm EST

Way too long a wait…
However, this is really great stuff! Stop comparing it to anything. It’s not the old GNR, it’s not anything but Axl’s new album, and it rocks!

Tian | 10/23/2008, 3:29 pm EST

I´ve been listening to GNR since 1989. If you look at most of their best songs, both Axl & Izzy have much to do about lyrics and melodies. Slash is one of the only guitar players in the world that allows you to remember and whistle each one of his riffs. Duff is an amazing band member who perfectly understands how the bass guitar contributes in a band (mainly because he used to be a drummer before GNR). Although Hard Rock is the essence of GNR, each of their songs (except from “MY WORLD”, UYI II)all their songs have an amazing melodical component. First cut of this new era “Ch Dem”, is no comparable to old material.

Pablo M | 10/23/2008, 3:44 pm EST

Chinese Democracy is excelent!

Axl is God!!!!!! He is a genius!

Let’s break this bullshit down people. Fanboys will love it no matter how shit it is and the haters started hated it after the first shitty leak came out. The album will get 3 stars by Rolling Stone, who as always won’t know which way to lean so decide to play it safe with a 3 star rating, Pitchfork will give it 0.5, calling it the worst album of the decade and Metal Edge Magazine will call it an misunderstood masterpiece. Meanwhile Axl will walk away from the tour after four shows. And one year from now nobody will give a shit about GNR anymore. The way it should have been in the first place.

AXLROSEFAN | 10/23/2008, 4:12 pm EST

Where I agree I wouldnt call this band Guns n Roses, its not a bad song and I dont expect it to be a bad album. I think Axl should have renamed the band, possibly “Hired Guns” for example. Axl is a decent songwriter and the band he has isnt that bad, put it this way they sound better than Velvet Revolver. I just hate that Axl is calling this GNR, when Paul quit the beatles and they broke up, him or John didnt try and call there new bands the beatles, or when Ozzy was fired from Back Sabbath he didnt try to get the naming rights so he could use the band name, point is if the band was called something different like “hired Guns” or anything else, or just simply Axl Rose, the album would have selled regardless, Velvet Revolver didnt have any problems selling there cds, when there 2nd album completely sucked ass.

Pat | 10/23/2008, 4:16 pm EST

Heard the new single and like it–kinda different, but cool. Looking forward to the album and a Dr. Pepper.

lake monster | 10/23/2008, 4:36 pm EST

I love some of these comments. AXLROSEFAN has great grammar!

Guns n roses fan | 10/23/2008, 4:51 pm EST

The first song, chinese democracy sucks, also that song that appears in rock band 2, I hope the other songs don´t be such a piece of shit like the two mentioned before.

hobbs mcginter | 10/23/2008, 5:00 pm EST

I haven’t listened to the song yet but I must say WOW! they did an awesome job on this one! I love the guitars! I love the bass! Those drums are killer! The man with the singing into the microphone bit is truly phenomenal! I’m blown away! I’m blown! The only thing this bopper is really missing is the F**king cowbell my friends.

Benny | 10/23/2008, 5:02 pm EST

Why is it when the likes of Radiohead and U2 venture into uncharted waters, they are hailed as geniuses, but when GN’R does it… it’s damned?

Funny thing is whether you like this song or not it will sell by the bucket loads.

If you don’t like the song don’t be such a prick about it.

champ anderson | 10/23/2008, 5:15 pm EST

when I woke up this morning I had no idea my dream would become a reality. since i was 15 years old back in 2001 when I first heard Chinese Democracy was gonna come out I’ve been dreaming of hearing Axel’s shimmering vocals tear through the radiowaves again with guitars and drums in tow, and now I’m complete. I’m going to the barber tomorrow and straight up asking for a Jesus haircut.

LBY | 10/23/2008, 5:38 pm EST

This is REAL ROCK N’ROLL right here. Don’t compare it to old Guns; compare it to what’s out today. And this is quite simply the most rocking song that I have heard in years (17 of them to be exact). RS needs to give them a cover. Get back to the music. And if you don’t like the song, fine; but there’s no need to be insulting or attacking about it.

BradAce | 10/23/2008, 6:37 pm EST

Seriously guys-unless Axl and Slash are playing together again nothing will ever hold a candle to the old GnR. So stop wasting ur time comparing it and just take it for what it is: a new rock album from a talented group of musicians who just so happens to have Axl Rose as a frontman.

chupeta | 10/23/2008, 9:22 pm EST

Terrible! But there are so many idiots out there so i’m sure it will be a hit. by the way I just finished reading the slashs book, its fucking amazing.

JUSTIN BOBBY | 10/23/2008, 10:32 pm EST

…it depends how ya judge it…no, it doesn’t sound like “Junge,” but it’s an extreme song from an artist who’s spent 14 years doing exactly what he wanted…Axl Rose is making you all talk about GNR long after his contemporaries have burnt out and faded away…this is a VERY special record!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AXL ROSE IS GOD

Jason | 10/24/2008, 12:28 am EST

You are right, that drunken fool Jim Morrison doesn’t deserve to be mentioned in the same breath as Axl…..new stuff is great. Love it.

Will Houston | 10/24/2008, 12:51 am EST

Shit or not; I’m a happy guy if this steals enough attention away from Weezer, Coldplay, Nas and the political scene that R.S. instists on shoving down our throats despite it’s a MUSIC MAGAZINE.

Titan | 10/24/2008, 1:00 am EST

Awesome Song! Rock and Roll is back, we should all be thankful! Otherwise you should turn your attention back to Top 40 and formula music.

Bob Jr | 10/24/2008, 1:33 am EST

To the guy who mentioned the Hot Mom contest: Thanks!

btw, the song blows.

Anonymous | 10/24/2008, 2:35 am EST

Gross.

blackcrowe | 10/24/2008, 3:05 am EST

This is a terrible song. It sounds like Axl is trying to cop the sounds of bands like Puddle of Mud and Linkin Park to me…marrying metal with industrial. Only one band ever did that and pulled it off, and that was Ministry of the early 90s. What made the original GnR great was their affection for the blues. Blues riffs and attitudes permeated the whole of Appetite. And if we’re being really honest here, the band lost their way when Izzy left. He was the bluesy heart of that band. UYI 1 & 2 are overblown, overdramtic, operatic messes, really. GnR Lies was their last decent record, and that was an EP. I salute Axl for keeping up his “mystique” as it were, but Velvet Revolver, who I don’t even like, sound much better than this. Axl sold out his blues roots for a more common sound. And Those lyrics? People…c’mon now…they suck…I’d love it if this record was good, a return to form, but it’s not. How could it be? After so many years? thousands of dollars? Sorry fans…this is no GnR.

Joseph | 10/24/2008, 3:49 am EST

CHUPETA… you dont like the song..yet you think Slashs book was amazing.. lol I see where you stand. You probably thing VR Libertad was awesome to lmao! Chinese Democracy will RULE! It it great!

Digital | 10/24/2008, 4:52 am EST

Why they gave this song the job of introducing the record is beyond me. Out of the other songs we have heard from Chinese Democracy in the form of demos are much better than this. It’s rather boring in my opinion, and doesn’t have the power needed to sell the album to new fans. Especially since Chinese Democracy is going to need to go Platinum to actually make a profit, due to the amount of time Axl took.Hopefully the rest of the songs on the album kick some ass.

Anonymous | 10/24/2008, 4:57 am EST

I’m not hating on Axl Rose, both Appetite and Lose Your Illusion where and are still great, but this song is just kind of blah. This album combined, with both Velvet Revolver albums, I think will prove that the members of the real version of Guns n’ Roses need each other to make great music.

Rock Cynic | 10/24/2008, 5:04 am EST

For everyone out there saying that this is the song that is going to save rock, you are wrong. The reason why APD saved rock is because it was a kick in to cheesy hair metal of the eighties. The only thing this song accomplishes is getting everyone free Dr. Pepper

Estranged | 10/24/2008, 5:29 am EST

Jesus, this is only ONE song! Rest assured, this album is going to be diverse as hell;Something for everybody.Nobody has the right to judge this record off of a single song,or leaked demos, for that matter.Alright,so it doesn’t meet all expectations, but for those of us who have heard the leaks,we know better, don’t we? This album has SO much more to offer than the title track or “Shacklers”.If anything,I’d say they are the weakest links on the album. And hell, nobody has heard any final mixes yet, minus the 2 mentioned above.PLUS: We still have “Sorry”,”This I Love” and “Scraped” to be blown away by.And of course,Axl’s said it before: They’ve already got somewhere between 60-80 songs in the can.Bumblefoot (current guitarist) also says some of his favorite tracks,”some really beautiful stuff” will be on the next record. So whatever.Bash this song all you’d like. Then go give “The Blues” a listen and tell me that doesn’t hold up with any other Gnr tune?

Estranged | 10/24/2008, 5:34 am EST

No,Rock Cynic … This song will not be the song to save rock n roll,it is the album itself,”Chinese Democracy” that will accomplish that particular task.

thomas | 10/24/2008, 5:41 am EST

One cannot get their hopes up for another Appetite For Destruction.

GNR were young, scrappy and hungry when they wrote that album.

A lone middle-aged millionare will not have that same type of inspiration to write music like that.
Just look at Metallica.

Chinese Democracy is what it is.
Good to mediocre.

an old reporter (47) | 10/24/2008, 5:58 am EST

I just listened to the songs and the leaked demo’s. I do remember when “appetite for…” and the UYI 1 and 2 albums came out, that the reviews were not so good and even critical in a negative sense. These new songs need time to resonate and get under your skin. Give it time to read and feel between the lines. One cannot denie that this voice of Axl is unique. It’s like the movies of the late Stanley Kubrick. At first every so called critic or viewing person damned all his films and now most of them are classics. I do hope the first album comes out on the 23rd of november (in Holland it’s the 21st of november I’ve been told) and then in a few years we will see. What was then is not now. We wil wait and listen and then judge if necessary.

Take care eveyone.

Greetings

Max Milton Jr.

Yes, I heard Chinese Democracy last night on the radio. Did I like it? I’ll let you know in 14 years.

Ben | 10/24/2008, 7:18 am EST

Not the best. But considering they’ve not released it as a real single (you can’t buy this and there is no video) I’ll wait for the real deal.

Heard the other leaks off the album and this is one of their weakest. Better, Shackler’s Revenge, If The World and Madagascar make Use Your Illusion look like a tepid bucket of vomit.

Lets see if Chinese Democracy THE ALBUM is worth the 14 year wait… I heard this song on the Internet in 2001.

leogamer1993 | 10/24/2008, 7:26 am EST

THIS SONG IS AMAZING! when I heard it i nearly crapped my pants. they’re back!

Jyyd | 10/24/2008, 7:37 am EST

Absolutely kick ass song, im really waiting for CD itself, and a new Chinese Democracy tour too! GNR will rule the world!

surforia | 10/24/2008, 9:39 am EST

I love the song. It’s different, and it’s better than most of the other music passing for mainstream “rock” these days. Nobody sings like Axl and I like Buckethead’s shredding. It’s gonna be a great album… everything from this kind of sound to piano ballads. Can’t wait till November 23rd!!!!!!!

muzikman | 10/24/2008, 10:16 am EST

wrong choice for the single. “Better” is,well, much better (sorry). Piano based songs like “Street of Dreams” (Aka The Blues) and “Catcher in the Rye” are fantastic. I’ve been groovin to them for two years now and stil dig them.

rhiad | 10/24/2008, 10:17 am EST

Chinese Democracy (the song}is very good tune comparing with most of rock song today. But the real deal is Better, Street of Dreams (aka The Blues), TWAT (my favorite), Prostitute and Madagascar. Yes – it`s worth to wait 14 years.

unzipsmack | 10/24/2008, 10:29 am EST

For something that took years in the making… it sounds like mud. Just way to much is going on in the song. How the hell is it going to be done live when Axl is singing 5 part harmonies. That’s right, he won’t show up to play!!!

matt in farmers branch | 10/24/2008, 10:35 am EST

Great song. Can’t wait to jam out their new album…

Looking forward to the tour… Hopefully he’ll wear pants this go round. How much do you guys think he’ll charge for tickets??

Tyson | 10/24/2008, 10:37 am EST

This song rocks harder than anything in years and the album is going to be GREAT. For all of you people that bash Axl and the ‘new’ band, grow up. Axl is an all time great talent and this album will be better that most anything in years.

Haobam.com | 10/24/2008, 10:56 am EST

THANK YOU AXL FOR SAVING ROCK MUSIC

Duff | 10/24/2008, 11:31 am EST

The song is crap, should be called American Communism… the other songs like “Better” “There Was A Time” “Madagascar” and “The Blues” are good, but definitely not worth the 15 years, give me a f’in break. All these people saying this stuff is great have just been bloated up with so much hype for 15 years anything would be great at this point. If he put this out like 10 years ago, it might be around the level of Use Your Illusion 1 or 2 on their own, still not anywhere near Appetite, not even close. And the guitars on this track are just all over the place, he’s taken whatever was left of GNR and beaten it into the ground like Barbaro.

Damn people | 10/24/2008, 11:58 am EST

does everyone not hear these amazing riffs in this song?? I agree its not my favorite on the record but holy shit is the guitar playing off the hook! Slash can’t hold a candle to this – riffs like this have never really been done….. and fretless lead playing like this is unreal. Stop being fucking biased – these musicians are far better than Slash, Duff, Izzy and all the others….. fuck give me a break.

PURE | 10/24/2008, 12:01 pm EST

Excellent!!!!

Josh | 10/24/2008, 12:04 pm EST

I think the song Rocks! To all those people saying “we’ve waited 15+ plus years for this”, look I remember when Welcome To The Jungle was released. No one thought that it was that great. Rock radio didn’t want to play the song. MTV didn’t want to play the video. But we all know what happend after that. Chinese Democray isn’t the best song on the album. But over all the album sounds really good. Rock music could use a gook Kick In The Ass!! I can’t wait for the release.

alec | 10/24/2008, 12:30 pm EST

For all those bashing this song, please just know that there are better songs on the album, this is only to drive up interest. Also for those bashing Axl and this song you guys seem to just be doing this because it’s easy or you think it’s “cool”, yes it’s not worth 15 years of waiting, but NOTHING would be. Please tell me what rock songs out right now are better. Metallica? No. AC/DC No. They’re both doing the same generic stuff they’ve been doing. OK but not very good. What Axl is doing is innovative and great, no one complained when UYI wasn’t the same as appetite. And if any of you think some horrible rock music like the killers is better, you should seriously think of yourselves as clueless and stupid. This ALBUM is going to be great.

Alex | 10/24/2008, 12:47 pm EST

HAHAH guns and roses …it’s only axel making money off his old bands success this is a disgrace to rock and roll..

hail hail rock and roll deliver us from the days of old

Expert on music | 10/24/2008, 1:06 pm EST

The combination of a very simple main riff, the industrial feel, Axl’s vocals and harmonies, the production and effects make this worth the wait. I has everything a great, enduring song has – you never like those right away but then you can’t stop listening to it. GNR is AXL, not the other addicts he used to play with.

Scott Weiland | 10/24/2008, 1:09 pm EST

Even I have to admit that it is off the chain. I am compelled to apologize for putting out anything with my old bands that I tried to pass as rock music. I confess it was crap and I was consciously trying to imitate Kurt Cobain’s voice all along. I deeply regret ever stepping into a studio or on stage. Sorry, Earth, for being such a tool.

The Slider | 10/24/2008, 1:10 pm EST

You guys are funny. This has to be one of the greatest hard rock songs of the decade!!!

Frode | 10/24/2008, 1:25 pm EST

I loved CD!! Finally i heard Axl on the radio again!!! And i Think its just stupid to compare the new songs with the old ones. This is not AFD again, its GNR anno 2008 and its great!

Axl is just awesome!!

White Castle | 10/24/2008, 1:28 pm EST

Yes, “The Slider” is right. This muscial gutbomb is one greasy meal sure to please even the drunkest of folks. Sit down with six of these and it’s sure to cure any hangover, with or without cheese. The fish sandwich, on the other hand, should be avoided. Wait, are we talking about food or GnR? Who cares, give me a free Dr. Pepper and another burger, man.

Daryl Hall | 10/24/2008, 1:30 pm EST

One thing we all seem to agree on is that “Chinese Democracy” is certainly not to be the “Big Bam Boom” of 2008. Just not enough talent in that Axl fella.

Jacefreely | 10/24/2008, 1:41 pm EST

Does anyone know what the line-up is on this track? Is Buckethead on it? Some of the parts sound like him…curious.

glendrive | 10/24/2008, 1:41 pm EST

Sorry, Axl the world moved on while you sat and whined…you’re 20 years too late! I’m gonna need that Dr. Pepper (made with figs) to help dump this crap from my system…

Lina | 10/24/2008, 1:45 pm EST

Well,I am one happy fan!Even though this is not my favorite song (I prefer “Better”),I am so pleased that I will finally hear something new from Axl.Yes,let`s face it,it will never ever be like Appetite, because it`s 2008 and not 1989!!!We can`t turn back the time, but we can enjoy what is offered to fans now!And it`s good!

rockonia | 10/24/2008, 1:54 pm EST

so i heard this track, first off i heard industrial riffs, then a scream from axl, the only thing that makes this track up as a guns n roses track is axles voice. He hasnt sold out his style or anything, unlike numberous “new” rock n roll bands who were a bunch of emo whiners who decided to change there way and “become” rock n roll all of a sudden, papa roach buckcherry u know all that pre fabricated rock n roll mumbo jumbo. Im a guns fan, this track cooks, even tho it isnt slash slayin solos or duffs bass lines or adlers drums etc. Cheers to rock n roll, im stoked for the album. and for all you people who are sayin axl should of hung it up a long time ago, i can only imagine what type of music you listen to, im sure bands that are so sh*tty they never even shoulda started. all hail guns

Honestly if it weren’t for the free soda would anyone even care about this album? Everything I’ve heard off this sounds stupid. Not too mention this isn’t even Guns N Roses, YOU CANNOT REPLACE SLASH or the other members for that matter. This is the over-hyped, bloated, and increasingly irrelevant album that has proved to showcase nothing other than Axl’s incredible insecurities and ego. Done

Josh | 10/24/2008, 2:01 pm EST

To Jacefreely – I believe that Buckethead is on this song.

would everyone shut up
this is a great song and everyone who commented onthis is going to buy the album no matter what they say
weve all waited 14 years and theres now way that this is a “maybe”
every single fucking person is going to buy it because they know they want to

CF | 10/24/2008, 2:31 pm EST

This song begins with a cliched riff and descends into the awful rather quickly. Axl’s millions of dollars and his celebrity buddies couldn’t manage to do something inspired — new ACDC, new Motorhead and new Metallica kick the dog crap out of this horrible fake Gnr mess. That’s right FAKE. I loved GnR Appetite – but I have no appetite for this CRAPOLA.

Raleldor | 10/24/2008, 2:36 pm EST

The first time I heard this song on the radio I wasn’t sure what I thought.

I certainly thought it was better than “Oh My God”, that’s for sure.

I played it again(via youtube), and it started growing on me. Few more times, and I like it.

I’d heard some of the other leaked tracks, and “Better” was by far my favorite, and I hadn’t heard Chinese Democracy yet, so it was nice to hear something in a different style than “Better” was, even though I love “Better”! I think I may end up loving this song too.

Durdan | 10/24/2008, 2:39 pm EST

Song is perfect for the time the album is being released into. Great guitar work and vintage Axl lyrics. This album is exactly what rock music needs right now, a return to what was.

bigsowndz | 10/24/2008, 2:42 pm EST

Jesus, unless you just don’t like rippin rock n roll, this song rocks!

Hunter | 10/24/2008, 4:09 pm EST

This song isn’t perfect for the time, this song doesn’t capture the times we’re living in at all, the lyrics just try to. The song doesn’t capture the spirit of our time anywhere near the capacity of songs such as Like A Rolling Stone by Dylan, Stairway to Heaven by Zeppelin, Born to Run by Springsteen, or Alive by Pearl Jam… + many more.

This song isn’t any better than any song Creed wrote, or any song Nickelback currently has out.. The song is actually a pretty lame song & within a year, after the hype wears down, no one will care about this album & in 10 years it’ll only be remembered as the most hyped album of all time that let almost everyone down.

John | 10/24/2008, 4:12 pm EST

I think you really have to try hard to make yourself believe what you’re hearing is good… Why are you trying to trick yourselves? Your ears aren’t lying to you, you should listen to your ears.. The music isn’t good music.

John | 10/24/2008, 4:18 pm EST

This song is about as good as the worst song off Pearl Jam’s latest album.

Joe | 10/24/2008, 4:40 pm EST

Oh wow.

this song blows the doors off of any single song Creed or Nickelback has released. And it may not be in the top 5 of the songs I have heard off of Chinese Democracy so far. The last Pearl Jam album is completely different than this song.

I’m on my tenth listen to this song in the last two weeks and its simply a really good rock song with above average lyrics, tight production, and great guitar work. I give it a sold 8 out of 10. I have yet to find any song by Nickelback or Creed that falls into any of those categories.

1980 Eagles break up
1994 Eagles release “Hell Freezes Over” with exactly 4 songs of new material.

Where’s the outrage over that delay?

damion | 10/24/2008, 4:52 pm EST

this song kicks ass!!
Axl Rose is a f**king genius

arijit | 10/24/2008, 5:24 pm EST

Two kinds of poseurs here. First, who say they don’t get/like the song. Second, the ones who keep talking bt slash n duff. We real gnr fans have accepted it a long time back and have got used to the new members. Its obvious either of the two groups aren’t real fans. So stop wasting ur time.this records gonna be a smash hit, with or without you.

Izzy | 10/24/2008, 5:35 pm EST

The song’s not bad. It immediately becomes the #1 stripper song in every single strip joint / gentleman’s club across the nation.

to anyone that likes good music, check out an unknown band that doesn’t get any radioplay. they’re called radiohead.

carphead | 10/24/2008, 6:56 pm EST

LOL. The song has to get props by being compared to Nickelback and Creed. THAT’S PRETTY SORRY!!! BWHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!

To n | 10/24/2008, 7:05 pm EST

Overratedradiohead

Paranoid Android, Creep, and Karma Police are still played on modern rock radio. I like good music and Radiohead is hit or miss. OK Computer was their peak. Kid A had moments of brilliance but didnt quite get there, Hail to the Thief was quite spotty and In Rainbows is pretty good. But for some reason they are hailed as the second coming. Being college radio darlings isn’t always what its cracked up to be. But that’s cool. Sometimes its easier to make a snarky crack about Dr. Pepper. Nowadays everybody is trying to out-”indie” each other. Sometimes rock music just needs a shot of adrenaline and “Chinese Democracy” is one of those shots. Radiohead can keep on doing what they do, and Axl will do what he does.

Kenneth | 10/24/2008, 7:17 pm EST

Rad song. Can’t wait to hear the rest.

nicknz | 10/24/2008, 7:35 pm EST

I think GNR had their day, 20 years ago-this song isn’t relevant and his vocals are just yesterday’s sound, a very long time ago…yesterday!

myballsyourchin-chilla | 10/24/2008, 7:40 pm EST

Of all the songs I’ve heard from this upcoming album, this one (the title track) is the lamest. Madagascar is pretty bad as well. The other songs are all damn good though.

Then again, how many albums do you listen to nowadays where ALL of the songs are good? very few.

Vlawde | 10/24/2008, 8:25 pm EST

Not bad, but I’ll need to listen to it more to have a better opinion. It’d be nice if Velvet Revolver and Axl made nice and combined forces again. Hell even Slash said he thought it sounded good.

But right now, the new AC/DC is taking up most of my listening time, talk about great rock and roll!

ñoño el gordo | 10/24/2008, 8:59 pm EST

axl is paying a lot of people to write good shit about his new release, pretty lame song,by the way.

Grant | 10/24/2008, 9:23 pm EST

i was born when this album was started… Sounds like it was worth the wait! Much better then any other rock choices! I know Nickelback is coming out with another album (my generations AC/DC – but embarrassing) Axl all the way!

Dick Cougar | 10/24/2008, 9:39 pm EST

this is far better than I expected and more than worth the wait. The haters on here had their minds made up before they heard the song. This song is well written, well recorded and sounds fuckin amazing. The guitars sound great. The drums sound great and Axl still sounds better than anyone out there.

People are making alot of stupid comparisons. Like saying that this new GNR stuff is better than anything ever done by Slash post-GNR. Listen, you guys who call yourselves “true” GNR fans are just lying to yourselves. Sure, the song isn’t bad. But it’s not GNR, its the Axl Rose Project. He’s using the name to sell records. We all know this. You know this. Its embarassing. What if Led Zeppelin ‘reunited’ and Robert Plant was the only original member? It would be a joke. Just like this new GNR crap.

magoo!! from the O.C. | 10/25/2008, 12:23 am EST

after reading some of these comments,i have to say. some of you must be pretty young to understand good music. alot of the shit that gets played on the radio is way over produced and every band sounds the same. ive listened to the whole album ands its pretty fucking amazing. Axl is a true artist. you think Davinci or Picaso took 6months to paint a master piece!!. it took them years. if you like the classics(Led Zepplin,The Doors, ect.) than youll love this album.simplistic but heavy, and vocaly from the heart. G’N'F’N'R!!

Bill | 10/25/2008, 12:28 am EST

I downloaded the leaked version last year, which is pretty much the same. Better is the best song on the album.

I will admit, I was skeptical. I have never been a big fan of Axl Rose. However, I watched the video from his website with the song. Very compelling to say the least. Although he was the last person I anticipated to make a statement, that is just what it was. I am impressed. Solid song, strong message, and very much needed in music right now.

damn, this is his years long tweaked perfection? I can see why he didn’t want to release it. Or should I say, I can hear why he has been so skeptical to release this mediocre bubble gum. Axl, have fun canceling all your shows.

Come on Eddie, Dave, Alex and Wolfgang!

Oh God if Van Halen reformed.. Now that the New GnR is out? It’d be like the 80’s B.S. all over again.. Just give me a pistol & let me kill myself before that happens.

I wonder how much Axl Rose is paying all these people to come here & pretend like this is a good song.

black bottom | 10/25/2008, 6:00 pm EST

It sounds good enough. Better than Metallica but not as good as the new AC/DC.

IAT | 10/25/2008, 6:24 pm EST

In response to what Gary posted:

Gary, you have no f-ing clue about music do you?
Van Halen toured late 2007 and into June of this year with David Lee Roth on vocals but they haven’t put out anything new as of yet. The tour was a huge success and the band’s most profitable tour ever. Roth sounded great, Eddie has his shit together again and is playing unbelievable guitar, the best he has in over 10 years.
Get 4 of the biggest rock acts of the last 20+ back out there kicking our asses will be great.
Those bands are Van Halen, Metalicca, AC/DC and GnR, albeit GnR isn’t anywhere close to the original lineup but none of those bands consist of the original lineups either.

But you probably prefer today’s “wuss” rock bands like Nickelback and Daughtrey anyways.

Lina | 10/25/2008, 7:28 pm EST

The song is good, but I can`t wait for the whole album!I can`t wait to see Axl live,to read interviews,to watch videos..I still can`t believe he`s back!Of course it will never be Appetite,it will never be the old Guns, but all the other members have moved on and I am so glad Axl did it too!The music scene is really boring without him!I hope the album sells well, and the reviews are fair to him!

From Gary: To IAT | 10/25/2008, 8:55 pm EST

I feel sorry for all you people who think that bands like guns n roses and metallica and vanhalen are going to save rock n roll, because theyre only a shallow reminder of how rock sounded 20+ years ago. These guys are waaaaaay past being relevant or cool. Find new bands, for the love of god!

The Truth Commission | 10/26/2008, 5:02 am EST

It was the greatest mind-fuck ever played on music fans. It should have been the first record-marketing scam to be studied in universities: how to make your non-existent UFO-like product a household name without selling one copy. But now it’s a mundane collection of rock tunes. Ugh. Just another CD to add to the collection. Yawn.

Axl should have a seriously long talk with Brian Wilson. SMiLE is a work of genius and the 2004 wholesale re-imagining and re-recording of his original material should be on everyone’s desert island disc set. Wilson knew what he was doing when he:

a) Patiently re-assembled his old material, getting it done right as opposed to getting it done right now. This stage, appropriately, took years.

b) Completely re-wrote the record so the parts he assembled weren’t just a bunch of old puzzle pieces, it was a unified whole. It wasn’t a nostalgic re-recording of some songs from the 60’s, it was fresh material that coincidentally had roots with some stuff he did in the 60’s. There’s a huge difference there.

c) Recorded it as a sterling, brand new record for a new audience, not a house band doing Beach Boys songs for old geezers. (All of this was done with collaborator Van Dyke Parks of course.)

The point? Axl should toss this abortion into a safe and come back to it in ten years. Then he should:

-Establish a theme/vision for the record and not stray from it even if it means tossing away favored songs (they can always be used for soundtracks, charity records, iTunes exclusives, stand-alone singles or the next record.) This should be the stage that takes the longest because you don’t have to commit to recording while you do it.

-Assemble a five or six piece band who are willing to see the recording through no matter what (a tough one with Axl, but maybe he’ll get therapy for his people issues.)

-Hire one producer who shares your vision and have everyone submit to his/her iron fist, to clear up ego clashes. Give the producer the final say on everything, though it may cause much weeping and gnashing of teeth.

I have a feeling this would be the only way to get another Appetite For Destruction out of Axl, which is why it isn’t going to happen. He wants his own Dire Straits, his Nine Inch Nails. Well, he has it, and we’ve all seen the emperor has no clothes.

Chinese Democracy exists and will soon be available as a real, physical CD from Best Buy?

Yawn.

Scarface | 10/26/2008, 7:05 am EST

The point is that it does not matter wether people say good things or bad things about you…as long as they keep talking about you…and looking at the huge amount of comments posted here…it seems to me he (Axl) is the only one able to get that in music today…Eminem’s article has less than 30 comments!! and we are having almost 350 in this one!

By the way, I heard that there were another two albums coming in 2010 and 2012 which are already recorded. Sebastian B mentioned that in an interview. He talked about a great song called The General which was his favorite one. If so….it means three albums recorded in 14 years….well it is an average of 1 album every 4.6 years!?.

CD song is good but the album is great. It has at least 4-5 singles more (Better, There was a time, Madagascar, Catcher and probably this I love..). It is going to be a classic

One minute of absolute filler in the beginning. No chorus. This took ten years? Blah.

lingli | 10/26/2008, 11:14 am EST

I was a huuuuuge G’n'R fan back when I was a teenager and I’ve followed what the members have done since, on and off. I like this song; it has the same drive that I remember from the G’n'R stuff. Is it as good as anything on Appetite for Destruction? No. But let’s face it, it’s been more than 15 years since G’n'R released anything of note, so although comparisons are inevitable, they’re not going to tell you much. The (rock music) world has changed a lot. Axl Rose and Slash have changed a lot too – they’re both pushing 50, for a start. And all of us who bought the original records have changed a lot too. Will be really interesting to see who buys this and if a younger generation gets into it.

It would be cool if the original members did make up – but I can’t see it ever happening. And you know what? Some things are better left alone anyway.

Maciek | 10/26/2008, 11:46 am EST

People! This is INTRO of this album. It doesn’t need any chorus BUT it needs the long begining. Think about it. Look at any concept album.

Raulinc | 10/26/2008, 12:20 pm EST

I love the song! The album will rock!

L1 | 10/26/2008, 2:05 pm EST

This song was written in the 1990. and it sounds like it, too.

GNRRULEZ | 10/26/2008, 2:44 pm EST

This is only the intro song of the album and it is already better than 90% of today’s current music.

I have listened to the rest of the album through leaks and it is nothing short of breathtaking.

Let the song grow on you! Crank it up to full volume and dare yourself not to head bang to it. Believe me, you will not be able to resist.

jake | 10/26/2008, 3:52 pm EST

God i love this song, it takes a couple listens to warm up to it, just because everyone is so used to listening to use your illusion, and all of guns 90’s music the last 15 years, but people give it a chance! its not old GNR..no we dont have that sellout slash, and no we dont have that now no body duff, or izzy. this is great music! look at all the shit out there today. Go out and buy it on the 23rd! great intro!!!

Brain | 10/26/2008, 5:29 pm EST

The people who say they waited 14 yrs and the album isnt that good… I dont get it. You stopped living your life? You stopped listening to music? What were you waiting for? Either you like it or you dont. Thats art. I think its decent. From hearing the leaks… its a pretty good album. But Im glad I didnt “wait” like some of these people I might be pissed too.

TO GNRRULEZ | 10/26/2008, 6:11 pm EST

You must be snorting some EXCELLENT coke to think all that.

Nothing lasts forever | 10/26/2008, 7:09 pm EST

I love the old band, but does anyone think they were built to last? You take manic depression (Axl), copious amounts of drugs and alcohol, and burgeoning egos, and it was bound to come apart at the seams. Plus you take Steven and Izzy away from the fold, you don’t have the guts of the band anymore. That isn’t to say Axl wasn’t/isn’t great — he is, but I feel it took all five of them to make what the band was in 1987/1988/1989/1990. That being said, I like Axl, so I’ll probably end up getting the album.

joel Weinberg | 10/26/2008, 7:35 pm EST

The timing on the lead guitar is a joke.
He is trying to hard and it sounds forced compared to the Mastery of Slash.

Axl, is Great to hear U.

Decent song but THIS is NOT GnR.

this song sucks, this is not Gn’R, the intro sounds like a song ripped off AC/DC, Axl’s classic voice sounds like Metallica, and when you hear a combination of AC/DC and Metallica you expect something that will blow your brains out.. but it just isn’t…. the guitar riff sucks too

Good song, but not the best on the album. Its a smart move to save the best singles for later so they can keep the momentum going.

One of the idiots who waited | 10/27/2008, 10:25 am EST

14 years of waiting and this is what comes out? I actually have to think this is a joke. It sounds like a bad NIN song circa 1995. There is nothing groundbreaking or even remotely progressive. Having the myth of working on an album for 14 years and never release it is better than doing so and sounding like it would have been mediocre if released 14 years ago. Now it’s just a joke of a song and Axl is simply the bad clown.

Nate | 10/27/2008, 11:48 am EST

I hate how people keep saying this is not GNR. no shit its 15 years later and theres only one original member left

everyone thinks the songs suck because they are listening with the perspective of a late 80s early 90s GNR fan

just listen to it as a music fan not a music fan that loves GNR, these songs are really good and beat the shit out of the crap thats on the radio now a days

Anyone who says this is what they’ve been waiting for is lying to themselves. I know, I love Oasis and have this battle every 2 1/2 years. But, Oasis are far superior then new GNR.

Jordan | 10/27/2008, 2:22 pm EST

OK, everyone needs to re-educate themselves — any further comparisons to Nine Inch Nails, bad or good, are totally inappropriate as Axl Rose could never hope to approach Trent Reznor’s level of artistry. This track sonically bears no resemblance to anything I’ve ever heard in the Nine Inch Nails catalog. What this new GnR track does sound like is rubbish.

It doesn’t really matter. The new GNR is Rock n Roll. 14 years is a long time but it is what we are all craving. It doesn’t really matter about critics. Axl Rose has realized this since the old GnR. Listen to the music these days and criticizing the album is easy. People say where is Slash? Slash has his own agenda and he made a mistake to leave the GnR. Axl Rose is a beaten down dog who will always come out fighting. All you critics will eat your own words. You people don’t have a life to judge a lead singer who has always cared about perfection and not drugs. If you don’t like the new Gnr then don’t buy the CD.

It’s hard to believe everyone is coming down so hard on Axl & Co. “Chinese Democracy” is a solid first single, though far from the best the album has to offer.

I’m sorry, I don’t remember Velvet Revolver doing anything particularly groundbreaking. Slash and the boys had their chance to get the material they wanted out (and weren’t universally bashed by morons before the record was even released), and it’s only fair to give Axl the same opportunity.

The sales will speak for themselves.

Raulinc | 10/27/2008, 11:07 pm EST

I love it! The album is going to rock!

Tyson | 10/27/2008, 11:12 pm EST

Great song. Can’t wait for the album!

Dean | 10/28/2008, 6:35 am EST

The song is pretty average, and nothing more than that.

l-p | 10/28/2008, 9:01 am EST

WOW! Chinese Democracy, just like what China has to offer; Cheap crap sold at a dollar store

Bob | 10/28/2008, 10:04 am EST

Sounds Great. I can’t wait to hear more!

V | 10/28/2008, 10:58 am EST

“If you don’t like the new Gnr then don’t buy the CD.”

Awesome advise from a GNR fan.
I’m not buying it because IT ISN’T GNR and Axl by himself is average at best. All the respect for Axl coming back to rock and roll but GNR doesn’t exist anymore! If those assholes could just put their egos aside they could reunite and return to glory. This isn’t GNR – it’s the Axl Rose experiment.

If you want to hear an 80’s band returning to their classic sound then check out the new Metallica – now that’s called bringing the noise!

devo | 10/28/2008, 11:47 am EST

The song rocks!! Period.

CACTUS | 10/28/2008, 1:53 pm EST

DAMN!GNR DEAD.RIP

CACTUS | 10/28/2008, 1:55 pm EST

GNR…….TOO OVERRATED
its like jonas brother meets motley crue meets some very commercial industrial money making people fooling fan loosing product.

vanheirec | 10/28/2008, 2:45 pm EST

I’ve listened to the leaked tracks, and i think this is not gonna be the best song in the album. From what i heard already chinese democracy is gonna be an epic album.

response | 10/28/2008, 4:19 pm EST

this first single has disapointed many who have replied to this blog…i am not surprised. “chinese democracy” is one of the hardest, industrial-sounding track on the album.

all you fans who want the “use your illusions” era “guns n’ roses” sound would prefer “street of dreams (the blues)”, “I.R.S.”, “catcher in the rye” and “there was a time”…

the songs that sound nothing like the “80’s-90’s GNR but will grow on you are definitely tracks like “better” and “if the world”.

“madagascar” and “rhaids and the bedouns” are probably going to disapoint.

all in all…you guys will all see…the appetite of destruction days of “sweet child o’ mine”…it’s 2008, axl is still the genius of guns n’ roses but the sound is totally something new…

one thing is for sure, he has MASTERED the intro’s to music. wish there were more guitars tho…=T

Bono | 10/28/2008, 4:19 pm EST

Don’t buy this turd of a recording. Save your hard-earned cash to buy our CD which should be out early 2009. Lord knows I need the money. Peace.

response with corrections | 10/28/2008, 4:26 pm EST

this first single has disapointed many who have replied to this blog…i am not surprised. “chinese democracy” is one of the hardest, industrial-sounding tracks on the album. it’s not a great first single and not a song for the mainstream or pop radio.

all you fans who want the “use your illusions” era-guns n’ roses would prefer “street of dreams (the blues)”, “I.R.S.”, “catcher in the rye” and “there was a time”…these songs have great guitar and piano melodies and are very grandeur…this is classic axl rose at his best, while incorporating some modern elements and styles. he almost put out “street of dreams” in a t-pain robovoice intro. but i think he took that out…

the songs that sound nothing like the “80’s-90’s GNR but will grow on you are definitely tracks like “better” and “if the world”. these are more modern day songs that will grow on you. definitely, guns n’ roses for the new millenium.

“madagascar” and “rhaids and the bedouns” are probably going to disapoint. not too much to say about these songs although they have their moments.

all in all…you guys will all see…the appetite of destruction days of “sweet child o’ mine” are over for this band…it’s 2008, axl is still a genius and perfectionist but the sound is totally something new…he isn’t trying to put out another “appetite for destruction album”…the content on this record is a lot more serious and grown up…also, less bluesy, less guitar elements…it is not a jam record like a lot of guns tracks are…these are full-out compositions that seem based off of concepts or ideas…

one thing is for sure, he has MASTERED the introductions on his tracks…you will know what i mean when you hear it. wish there were more guitars in it tho…

“chinese democracy” the single is not a good indication of what this album’s sound is like…there is a little bit of everything on this record…and it definitely is not as over-produced and heavy as the first single..

Anonymous | 10/28/2008, 5:14 pm EST

RS; i just hope that you will have the decency to give AXL ROSE one of ur next covers! Whatever you may think of the album, whatever critics may think, this event should still grace ur cover! I used to be a huge, huge GNR fan back in the 90ies and really don’t know what to expect from that record, but nobody can pretend this is not a major event in music..
So, just please…

John | 10/28/2008, 6:07 pm EST

For those of you bitching that Slash and Duff are not on the album…I have 2 things to say..1. THEY quit the band. and 2. Go listen to Velvet Revolver and tell me you actually think that either SLash or Duff are going to be able to contribute somehing positive to this record. VR is terrible terrible generic radio rock, so all of you claiming what geniuses Slash and Duff are could stop right now, Axl isnt missing anything by not having them in the band..

The other main complaint is that this “doenst sound like GNR”…of course it doesnt..Axl said 17 years ago that he wanted to leave that he wanted to leave that sound behind him..If you want “Appetite” go listen to it…its not going anywhere…The only types of fans that this record is going to turn off are the dudes with mullets who also frequent Motley Crue and Poison shows…and that is a good thing! This music is far too complex for any of them to understand and appreciate, so GNR will be better off without them…

Rance | 10/28/2008, 8:17 pm EST

Pretty badass I think, but i dont think that it should be under the GnR name though. Still, badass, great job Axl

BJB Digital | 10/29/2008, 1:36 pm EST

People can sit here and try to stand up for this song all they want, but you can’t deny that it is much more then mediocre. If you are going to take 10 years to make an album you better damn well know that each track on it is a classic. This title track is painfully average, and is definitely not a break out single. Several of the leaked tracks were far better then what ever the hell this is supposed to be.
Just because Axel was finally forced to release his self proclaimed “opus” doesn’t automatically make it a huge event in the music world. There is absolutely no way the over blown hype Axel caused by taking so long is going to be met successfully. Especially considering most people who are still interested have already heard half the album, and are probably weary of it.
Finally, no single member of GnR masterminded their success. It was the collective collaboration of all the members that made the band great. So trying to say any single member was the sole beneficiary is extremely disrespectful to the memory of how great GnR once was.

HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!

Axl and complex used in the same sentence!

HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!

Your pretty complex there bro.

Anonymous | 10/29/2008, 3:32 pm EST

garbage song….garbage album

Kurt's Corpse | 10/29/2008, 3:44 pm EST

Worst band in the history of rock & roll. Horrible singer

Ray | 10/29/2008, 5:39 pm EST

Terrible…just terrible. This song has NO HOOK! Granted, given the hype there was no way this album/song could be good enough without it being Sgt. Peppers-esque (the gravity of, not the sound of) but this isn’t even close. I could’ve dug a record that was good but didn’t live up to the ridiculous expectations, but this deserves all the crap it will take. Good Luck with that God Complex Axl!

steve | 10/29/2008, 7:08 pm EST

Guns and roses still rule motherfuckers!! Its 2008 and its still the shit!!!!

Ale | 10/29/2008, 7:38 pm EST

ROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOCKKKKKKKK

Ben | 10/29/2008, 8:27 pm EST

The song rocks!!! cant stop listening

Axl's Woes | 10/29/2008, 9:55 pm EST

It’s sad. Very sad. This kind of thing keeps happening: An amazing rock band goes soft then tries to ‘come back’ but ends up belly up in their own feces. Axl, Why? Why do suck so bad now? What happened to you that all your genius is gone. Are your braids too tight? Do you watch too much daytime TV? Don’t listen to Oprah dude! Switch off that Dr. Phil! Forget about what happens next week on The O.C.! And make some effen ROCK!

Axl's Woes | 10/29/2008, 9:57 pm EST

Terrible.

Scott | 10/30/2008, 4:47 am EST

It’s good for a first up taste but yeah there’s some awesome stuff to come. Some of the comments being posted are moronic. For a start everybody bar Sorum left the band and he already had the name at that point. To say he’s calling it GNR for the money is stupid, first album since 1993. You’d think if it was about money there would have been more “product” put out there from the “brand” than that. Also forget the it’s not worth 15 years wait argument, there isn’t an album in history that could possibly live up to that hype. Corgan, Cornell, Vedder and everybody else from that era are boring everybody shitless. Why do you think everybody is talking about this album?

Digweed | 10/30/2008, 2:37 pm EST

What the hell is going on here? We wait 15 fucking years to hear… a full minute of just nothingness and crap before the music kicks in?
Give us a fucking break Axl. Maybe if they cut out the first 1:00 of this, then it will be first single material

New fan | 10/30/2008, 4:06 pm EST

This song is fantastic and rocking hard! Cant wait to hear the rest, had no confidence but this is proof enough! This might be the album of the year

Vince | 10/30/2008, 6:31 pm EST

Axl sings so bad!! It probably took him the 15 years to get the vocal tracks done.

steveh | 10/30/2008, 8:25 pm EST

Great song!!…axl is back…assholes!!!!

Tamsin | 10/31/2008, 1:40 am EST

This tune doesn’t really do it for me. But I would like to see Axl Rose become successful again. It will never be Guns N Roses to me unless Slash and Duff are there too.

lucas | 10/31/2008, 7:21 am EST

I’m a huge GNR fan. When i listen to velvet revolver, snakepit or new loaded I dont think Slash and Duff would improve this album. New GNR leaks are pretty good (much better than VR) but not as good as UYI and AFD which are perfect! Let’s wait for the whole album.

Alan Byrne | 10/31/2008, 9:13 am EST

Coming from the uk and loving the old stuff this is a pile of shit 15 years for this crap fuck off axl!!!

mark de lange | 10/31/2008, 12:14 pm EST

Hell yeay

tru predator | 10/31/2008, 4:02 pm EST

well.i look at it this way.in my opinion it wasnt really that bad not mind blowing but pretty good.it did kinda remind me of old gnr.i wonder if that was buckethead and if he is still with axl in gnr

tru predator | 10/31/2008, 4:05 pm EST

they really do need to drop their egos and do a full blown reunion minus adler, hes screwed himself up too bad its sad sight.

bet | 10/31/2008, 7:20 pm EST

crap

Tom | 11/1/2008, 6:34 pm EST

Chinese Democracy is going to be everything we hoped for and much much more also

mudlude39 | 11/2/2008, 8:46 pm EST

iam 41 years old, rock and roll has been injected in my veins, and this new gnr track rocks, no afd but rocks!!! cant wait for the release!!!

Crossphase | 11/5/2008, 7:41 pm EST

Who the hell cares about axl and some tired old crap he shouldn’t have released a decade or more ago, say nothing of now! And only available at Bestbuy. what a load. They should be required to change their name to Whybuy? Or Wesuck! The store, not the band. The band should just practice saying “Welcome to Walmart!”

davo | 11/6/2008, 5:54 pm EST

I would be embarassed to put this trite overly done piece of Sh*t out for the world to hear.no wonder he hesitated. It absolutely sucks. No vibe no groove just sterile overly produced garbage. He is way overrated and without the rest of the real band insignificant

Dave | 11/8/2008, 5:31 pm EST

A first I thought the song was just slightly above average, but after several listens it’s a great freaking tune!! It’s as hard as anything on AFD. No matter what Axl puts out the cynics are still going to midlessly yell “where’s Slash – this sucks”. Idiots.

Kayla | 11/11/2008, 2:15 am EST

Unlike some people on here, I have a wide taste in different types of rock and metal type of music.
This obviously isn’t ‘old school Gun’s n Roses’ or anything but it’s different and I kinda dig it. Anyway, look, to the bitchy people on here, if you want Slash and Duff, go listen to Velvet Revolver, OR if you want old GNR go LISTEN to old gnr. Just be thankful that Axl, Izzy, Slash, Duff and Steven made mindblowing hits that BELIEVE IT OR NOT are still available for you to listen to :0

dario | 11/12/2008, 11:16 am EST

el albun esta bueno perono es un “appetite for destruction” yo tengo algunas canciones y estan buenas pero nomejor que las de antes

Imaposse | 11/14/2008, 11:14 am EST

All this talk about it not being GNR w/o Slash and Duff is stupid. Look at Megadeth, the only original member in that band is Dave Mustaine, and no one is bitching about that. The new GNR track is kick ass, much better than that piece of shit that Metallica just released.

Danny | 11/15/2008, 8:37 am EST

This is awesome i agree with Imaposse about the shit metallica released

Pleth | 11/21/2008, 12:22 am EST

Oh, man what a turd of an album this is. Just listened to the whole cd on myspace and it sucks soooooo bad. Ballads, techo-weirdo crap. Not even close to classic GNR. What a huge dissapointment!!!!

ionic | 11/21/2008, 2:44 pm EST

sounds good so far give it some time it will all work out i guess the older we get we avoid change. i am almost 50 i liked GNR then and OUR kids will appreciate them now. Isn’t that what it is all about Hell the Aerosmith did it why cant he evolve

Mark | 11/23/2008, 6:29 pm EST

Holy crap this is bad. I can’t believe he is using the name Guns N Roses. WTF. I am speechless. This album sucks so bad I don’t even know how to express my thoughts. One word I read here was “Turd”. I think that is fair. Axl, once again you prove that you are a punk ass bitch. What a douche bag. I’ll bet Slash and Duff are laughing their asses off.

:( | 11/23/2008, 9:40 pm EST

Waited 13-14 years for maybe 5 average Tracks. The rest are shit and just axl whining, there’s no catchy riffs no mind blowing solo’s no real rock drums. Most of the songs sound extremely outdated. The two stand out songs are “Better” and “Chinese Democracy” These two songs were done years ago and have been on the internet since early 2000. Pretty sad album really. He should of done what Metallica did, go back to their roots and produce a fine piece of art but he’d probably need some real musicians to do that with tho. He had to much free reign!!
AXL ROSE GO HOME SIT DOWN AND LISTEN TO APPETITE

How ironic | 11/24/2008, 11:10 am EST

It is funny that Dr. Pepper got itself involved. Cause it is looking like this CD is like Dr. Pepper, either you love it or you hate it.

My opinion doesn’t matter, it won’t change yours anyway.

kiko | 11/24/2008, 10:56 pm EST

I am just trying to find ONE, just One nice song.. WAT A FAILURE! im the biggest GnR fan but C’mon thats not GnR… So bad this Cd made just go back and listen to Nov Rain

FINALLY! | 11/25/2008, 10:30 pm EST

I’ve been waiting YEARS for the new Killing Joke! This is the best song they’ve done since collaborating with NIN! Great inside joke by calling it GNR!!! LOL!!! Can’t wait for the new CD!

Ryan | 12/4/2008, 10:11 am EST

First off, let me say that I have been a HUGE GnR fan for since the Appettite days. I was really excited to hear the new disc, even though I knew it wasn’t going to be the same as the old stuff. Well, I was right, it’s NOTHING like the old stuff, and I hate to say it, but 80% of this CD is AWFUL. Chinese Democracy is good, Shacklers Revenge is good, Better is good, the next 6 songs are unbearable, the 2 after that are OK, and the rest are garbage. Sorry GnR, this album is just waaaaaaaaay to out there for me. I’ll stick with A4D, and Ill 1&2 which never get old! This new CD is just plain BAD… too many ballads and slow tracks. The rockin’ stuff rocks but there is simply not enough of it!

Logan | 12/15/2008, 2:29 pm EST

It has to be amazing how ridiculous and foolish all these idiots out there are putting down this album. No, it is not AFD, but who gives a sh#$ ? Hate to say it to all the haters out there, but this will be the biggest GNR album ever in radio play and hits. The self titled track, better, Sorry, If the world, and I.R.S are FOR SURE going to make radio and billboard…. All the way to the bank Axl… Good job. Screw all those haters. People, this is a very well developed album with a 2008 timeline. This has so much diversity and originality. Symphony, guitars, methods.. AMAZING and GENIUS. REMEMBER THIS…. Everyone HATED the black album by Metallica when it first came out… funny thing is that it is the most sold album of theirs, had the most hits, radio play, AND now everyone seems to like it. And 17 years to make? No one person KNOWS what Axl was doing or why it took that long – who cares, it is a masterpiece… Peace

gnr | 1/1/2009, 12:42 am EST

if you dont like this song you can fuck off

Lmfao | 1/2/2009, 12:22 am EST

“WOW! Chinese Democracy, just like what China has to offer; Cheap crap sold at a dollar store”

Couldn’t have said it better myself

this album sucks dick

JBK (chayincay) | 1/7/2009, 5:46 pm EST

well i think all the songs r great, i don’t really care what anybody say’s, i’ve been listening 2 GN’R since from the start. but me and my cusin don’t think Axl should of called the album GUNS N’ ROSES because there are no original band members. anyways nice job axl,all the songs Rock!! ur #1 fan.

MonkeyGroin | 1/15/2009, 7:37 am EST

The sound of two cats making love then fighting over a sardine has more musical value than this album. Maybe one or two songs will make the charts just because it is axl rose and his record company will demand stations play it. If anyone not famous made this album it would have never made it as a record, let alone a demo, its bad and overproduced in parts and really just lame

Jay | 1/15/2009, 6:04 pm EST

Like “Better” a lot. Ever other song sucks. And none of it sounds like old GNR. Too bad Axl doesn’t get with a decent band and let THEM write the music…

Marko | 1/15/2009, 11:19 pm EST

I bought it and like it a lot. Yeah, it’s not Appetite Gn’R, but oh well. I have been listening to it non-stop (got it as a gift 2 weeks ago) and its growing on me. In fact, I was VERY DISAPPOINTED when Illusions I and II first came out, but that grew on me too. Does anyone really LOVE
any album the first time they hear it? Unless you’re a Nickelbag dork
(ALL THEIR SONGS ARE THE SAME), I bet the answer is ‘no’.

Matt | 1/21/2009, 3:42 pm EST

This is not GNR its a Axl. The GNR name on the album is what kills this entire CD. People talking about Velvet Revolver… Velvet Revolver was exactly that, Velvet Revolver. This is a misbranded GNR cd that is extremely overly produced.

GUNS | 1/24/2009, 7:07 pm EST

Guns N’Roses and Velvet Revolver Forever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

derfknadds | 2/26/2009, 11:56 pm EST

Time for a reunion,Velvet revolver or the new guns weren’t that good. They were great stoned and would reach new heights sober. It would probably help with steven’s sobriety.
