Things have not quite gone to plan for Billy Corgan since re-forming Smashing Pumpkins in 2006. “We found that America had turned every older band into the ‘reunion band,’” says Corgan. “It was ‘I just want to hear those eight songs and drink my beer.’ You think, ‘I’m 41 years old, and I’ve earned some level of trust.’” But he’s optimistic about the band’s 20th anniversary tour this fall, which will hit a handful of major cities and mix up songs from all parts of the Pumpkins’ career.
