Ringo Starr Does Damage Control Over Fan Mail Controversy

Ringo Starr has responded to the outcry following his video message asking fans to no longer send him mail to autograph. The video was lamented by people who deemed Starr as unappreciative and too busy for his fans. Instead, Starr says in a statement, the ban on fan mail was “in direct response to an inordinate amount of items which have recently appeared for sale on e-bay, and to those that repeatedly send cards and items to be signed.” Starr also felt all the mail was “a waste of paper and we all should be mindful of our carbon footprint,” so fan e-mail is probably still encouraged. Starr also added that the initial video message wasn’t aimed at his “real fans” who understand Ringo “has always signed items and is in fact the only Beatle to have been doing so.” “How amazed am I to the reaction to my video update. I hope this statement gets as much. Please read this in a mellow way. Peace and love, Ringo,” Starr said in conclusion.

I’m truly glad that Ringo responded to either what we were thinking or what people were saying about his no more mail video. It seemed like he was getting upset with his career. this year has certainly been a challenge to Ringo. First with the comments about Liverpool, and then the break up of his musical partner Mark Hudson, and then the slow sales of his return to Capitol/EMI with “Liverpool 8″. By the way, “Liverpool 8″ is a great album, but the music industry just isn’t the same as when his “Ringo” album came out. Speaking of EMI, the other Beatle drummer – Pete Best is also on EMI now with his incredible release “Haymens Green”. this album/CD was a total surprise to me. It’s very contemporary, and at times even sounds like Badfinger. Highly recommended! Pete handles the drumming with his brother Roag. The rest of the band members handle guitars and vocals. This CD stands tall in any Beatle fans record/CD collection.

I think it was the “I’m too busy for you” tone of the video that fueled some of the negative reaction.

Maybe he could have Pete Best help him with his workload and pay him handsomely for it.

Peace and Love

It is pretty insulting to Ringo that when he’s taking time to autographing to his “fans”.

It is not a greatest feeling in the world to be used as a profit making machine.

But I don’t think Ringo handled it very well of the situation. Decades into the game, he should know better.

i think is fair, all these years not begin an asshole like paul and being a truly wonderful artist, i think he needs a break, and besides, people where actually the assholes for selling the stuff in ebay.

Come on people, give the man a break. After all, he HAS been doing the autograph thing for well over 40 years now and by all accounts has never refused to sign for people. It’s time for some people to move on and find some other way to occupy their time than by hounding celebrities.

He can piss off anyway….

I feel bad for Ringo. All the people who were supposedly his fans got mad at him over the fan mail “controversey”. I mean, I wouldn’t expect any musician to write back at all and he’s been doing it personally for over 40 years. If your a true fan, then it wouldn’t matter whether he signed a picture for you, you’d still like his music.
