YouTube Offers Music Downloads Through In-Video Icons

10/9/08, 10:55 am EST

YouTube is joining the army of sites offering music downloads. “If you like the song, you don’t need to leave Google or leave the site to buy it,” a rep from YouTube says of the new plan that will link music videos and songs played on YouTube with purchasing options via iTunes and Amazon’s MP3 store. Icons will appear during the uploaded video prompting users to where to purchase the song they’re listening to. Thus far, only videos for music from Universal and EMI will feature the purchase icons. YouTube also plans to add a similar feature linking users to concert ticket purchase options.

i think it’s stupid cause anybody can already download videos from youtube useing realplayer and convert it to mp3 and put it on an ipod for free. i do it everyday so this wont work out either.

yeah but you're the minority | 10/10/2008, 7:11 am EST

of technically aware people. Most people have no idea how to rip tunes or use a torrent but it doesn’t matter because they either no people that do or don’t care about owning a copy of an album anymore.
The music industry as we know it is dead.

Looked at my $ spend on music this year….and it’s a sad day for record labels. (3 Cds, 8 MP3 full CD downloads, many more copies or bittorrent)

That said, I’ve never spent MORE on Concert Tickets now that my CD spend it down.
