Comment of the Week: The Campaign to Elect Terry Reid to Led Zeppelin

10/3/08, 4:45 pm EST

Now that Robert Plant has made it perfectly clear he won’t tour with Led Zeppelin anytime in the near future (or two years, at least), reader Kbhr has a suggestion:

“Why doesn’t Page just contact Terry Reid (his original first choice) and form a new band? Reid’s voice is still superior to Plant’s anyway.”

Discuss.

Robert Plant is too much a part of Led Zep to do it without him. Granted, they’ve used John’s son on the drums, but I still don’t think that is even the same.

Led Zep is one of my favorite bands, and I will honestly say that they should stay “retired” and leave things how they are.

perfectly agree with DrewG!

That’s a great idea & by the way, “forming a new band” isn’t “reforming LZ”, so it’s Pagey’s choice to stay “retired” or not.

Besides, Planty does LZ songs on stage, right? Then let Pagey do the fuck that he wants to -as long as it’s not with that prick Coverdale, that is.

Nige | 10/4/2008, 7:56 am EST

Led Zep are the best band ever and to reform without Robert Plant is unthinkable

So, none of you can actually read beyond the title of this news?

That’s what I figured. Shit, LZ fans make even the late, great Bonzo look like fuckin’ Einstein!

oh, i thought you meant tara reid
and that this was some kind of joke

I don’t care much about Led Zeppelin. They don’t need to reunite. No one wants to hear them play on XM radio for twenty four hours a day. I do want to say this: Why has Rolling Stone magazine inserted a full-blown ad, which depicts a Visa card right in the middle of the Random Notes and pictures page. I was looking through an issue from last year, and I noticed that the magazine had a much more colorful and welcoming graphic design; the reviews didn’t put me to sleep; and, for the most part, it was a whole lot more interesting. Sure, delete this. I just wanted to post my opinion on the matter. What happened to the progression of music–discussing Led Zeppelin and U2 all day does get tiring doesn’t it? There are so many exceptional albums that have came out, and rarely are they featured in here. But, please, let’s continue to talk about AcDc’s triumphant return and the pending release of Chinese Democracy. Swweet.

brufino | 10/6/2008, 12:17 am EST

They should stop this blasfemy now! Led is Led and this idea of using anyone else than Plant is ridiculous. Without him, call it another name, like anyone sugested.
I didn`t think it sounded that good to reunite without Bonzo…and now they`re going too far.

bill | 10/6/2008, 10:19 am EST

maybe when jagger quits the stones could get a new singer and carry on too.

Um.. BLASPHEMY! Led Zeppelin without Plant? Are you kidding me? You people must not be big fans.

Hey Sheepy | 10/6/2008, 11:38 am EST

U2 is still going strong and their new album will be awesome. You cant say the same for Led Zep.

The Three J's | 10/6/2008, 12:08 pm EST

Robert Plant isn’t the voice he used to be. The three J’s (Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones, Jason Bonham) need to get a new singer and do what they do best–rock and roll! Whatever they call it is really fine by me– I’ll buy the albums and go to the shows.

led fan | 10/6/2008, 6:41 pm EST

You people are idiotic. Just because the 3 J’s are doing music doesn’t mean they are gonna call it Led Zeppelin. They haven’t said it was and they won’t. They are just making music together.

Sheepy | 10/6/2008, 9:41 pm EST

U2 make new albums, tour, promote their moral rectitude, rally youths into political mind benders, and do everything short of conquer the world. And yet it feels like no matter how much they do, their sea of sanctimony still drowns out everyone that isn’t a devout acolyte of Bono, the Edge, or that other guy. U2 made some good albums. So have a lot of other people. The point of debating on whether or not U2 are accomplished musicians is like shooting a bulletproof vest–no matter how much force, you still won’t penetrate a damn thing. I’m just taking a stand against one of the most overplayed arriviste of our musical generation. I think “Sunday, Bloody Sunday” is a great song, too.

Led zeppelin without plant is like fries minus the salt…tasteless nothing….xoxo

brufino | 10/10/2008, 8:15 pm EST

They can play, I say it again, but don’t call it Led Zeppelin without Plant.

caraustralia | 10/21/2008, 10:38 pm EST

boat ocean yes boat america jhon man all this

roll-a-coaster | 10/30/2008, 2:49 am EST

Won’t happen. He turned Pagey down once, he’ll do it again. Yes his voice is still better but it doesn’t mean he’s up for grabs.

Andy | 11/1/2008, 6:36 pm EST

Dream on… though Superlungs (Reid) + aging Thor (Page) would have been beyond awesome… I wish it was possible. But I know it’s not.

VOTE FOR TERRY! | 11/4/2008, 1:08 am EST

Terry Reid with Jimmy!! Finally??!! What an amazing idea. Can you imagine this band the way Page originally envisioned it – with a singer who also played rhythm guitar?

Tom Schryer | 11/4/2008, 7:33 pm EST

Page, Reid, Jones, Dreja, McCarty, great harmonica: The Yardbirds have a great act right now too but are losing their bassist & singer soon. As long as we’re dreaming, let’s DREAM. By the way LZ fans: check out Page with the Yardbirds on “Asylum” from Strange Land (Box of Frogs, 1986). I found this searching for Terry Reid gigs since I’ve been digging his stuff again lately.

Зайчонок | 11/14/2008, 4:56 pm EST

Я бы еще кое-чего добавил конечно, но по сути сказано практически все.

mr.alexander | 11/16/2008, 6:23 am EST

As far as i know mr.reid is busy with some gigs. he has a life. imagine that.

licotaboctal | 12/2/2008, 12:36 am EST

spiky | 12/20/2008, 2:55 am EST

LOL I just love that “still superior” and by the way it’s true. May be Page already asked him? and too ashamed to admit he’s been rejected again? we’ll never know ;P

dc denizen | 1/17/2009, 12:54 am EST

I would LOVE to see Terry Reid sing with Page, Jones & Bonham. And I’m a Zep fan from the beginning. Just listen to Reid sing “Season of the Witch” and you can’t help but imagine what LZ would have been with him as lead singer. Nothing against Plant, but it would be a dream for this LZ fan to see Reid as frontman.
