With one debate in the can and the election a mere five weeks away, the new issue of Rolling Stone focuses on John McCain. When Rolling Stone’s Tim Dickinson took a closer look at the self-proclaimed “maverick,” he found a disturbing career’s worth of recklessness, dishonesty and reversals. Click below for the complete story, as well as a run-down of the McCain campaign’s double talk. As a bonus, we’ve posted the full text of Matt Taibbi’s story about Sarah Palin from our last issue, as well:

John McCain = evil.

Two issues featuring Barack and one featuring McCain??? Is this Rolling Stone or Time magazine? One is ok, but three political covers in one year???? Where’s the cutting edge musicians???? This is soooo irritating!

Andrew | 10/1/2008, 10:22 am EST

political covers usually come around during an election year. nice mccain cartoon…..now bring on the angry “i’ve been recieving/buying/stealing your magazine for (input arbitrary time) and I’m canceling my subscribtion (even though I never had one)”

BOB | 10/1/2008, 10:55 am EST

Rolling stone=Music mag

Time=Politics

Focus on what you are supposed to do best. The music coverage has been sub-par for quite a while now. If I want political coverage I sure as hell wouldn’t look to RS first, or second, or third, etc…

Jughead | 10/1/2008, 11:27 am EST

Hey Phillip and Bob – take it easy. I would say the majority of Rolling Stone’s readers are liberal democrats or politically middle of the road types. This story appeals to them. And RS is an entertainment magazine, not just about music. The upcoming election affects us all and if RS has some dirt on dirtbag McCain, then we, as RS readers, have a right to know. Besides…. I’m the real maverick around here. Screw McCain.

Joe | 10/1/2008, 12:01 pm EST

So easy to pin when the conservative “mavericks” have been exposed….they tell us that RS has no place doing “political commentary”. Douches.

stupid republic%nts | 10/1/2008, 12:32 pm EST

,,,,,these idiots voted for Bush, not once, but twice, despite the obvious blunders,,,,now they cry boo-hoo when RS brings more of the same to the forefront,,,McSame is a tired old fart and needs to be exposed for what he is,,,,,,dont even get me started on Palin,,,,,,good god!!!!

Elvis knows best... | 10/1/2008, 3:46 pm EST

RS should stick to what they used to know best.. rock and roll… we get it, you love bleeding heart liberals, and hate conservatives. It is sooooo crystal clear, SO SHUT THE FUCK UP ABOUT IT ALREADY!!! McCain = Hero with real experience, Obama = ZERO (no real experience, no great ideas, history of corruption.

ted | 10/1/2008, 5:18 pm EST

yea, If you can’t bring yourself to vote for mclame vote for ron paul.

Nicholas Romanov | 10/1/2008, 6:05 pm EST

Anyone who still supports the Neocon FREEMOCRATIZATION of the World (at the barrel of a gun) should commit themselves.

After all we know about Bush, MCCAIN, and the rest of these sociopaths…how could you possibly support them??

Get your head out of the sand, pinheads!!

Any magazine that focuses strictly on music without getting political would not be doing a disservice to themselves and their readers. Music has become inherently political and it would be a shame for Rolling Stone to ignore that.

Jungleland | 10/2/2008, 11:00 pm EST

How about putting Bob Barr on the cover. He is anti big government, anti- Iraq war, Anti-bailout, anti-drug war, pro choice, Anti Gun Control, Thinks Bush is a dufus..should be right up your alley

Sid Vicious | 10/3/2008, 1:10 am EST

To the guy who said:

Rolling Stone = Music
Time Magazine = Politics.

If you really read, like and believe that utter butt rag of a magazine (time) for politics then, I’m afraid, any journalistic judgment from you is of the same consequence as asking a pinneaple for its opinion of Dali.

Jim | 10/5/2008, 12:21 pm EST

Amen, Jungleland. Rolling Stone should provide coverage of Barr and other 3rd-party candidates. People need to know there are other, better choices than Obama and McCain.
